LG 3D ultraHD Blu-ray player with miracast & private sound mode - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

My LG BP730 3D UltraHD upscaling Bluray player has miracast and private sound features that may be useful for screen mirroring.
It works fine with my samsung galaxy S4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRSVyxyuO_M even for full HD videos

Are you still happy with this device (LG bp730)? I'm considering buying a 3d BluRay player with miracast support... have you tried any others? I'm especially curious as to how it compares with the much cheaper Toshiba BDX5400. I would also appreciate more details about strengths and weaknesses of the LG unit after having used it for a while.
I'm planning on using it with a Note 2 and an LG 65LM6200 3D TV... if you have a similar setup, can one magic remote work for both devices? I find that the menu & apps (amazon prime, youTube) on my LG TV are often sluggish, any improvement on the bluray player?
Thanks for the input..

sorry for the late reply, just saw your post. Was on a few weeks holiday in aug so didnt see your post. Came back to a gazillion emails in my account so might have missed the alerts from here.
I have update my amazon Uk review for this player. It works fine for bluray and 3d bluray on my LG smart TV. The private sound mode just works for bluray and not other stuff which was a disappointment. There are some firmware bugs, once as i was repeatedly trying to get the private sound mode to work for other stuff the device froze and i couldnt even eject the bluray. Even rebooting a couple of times didnt get the bluray to eject, but after a couple more times it did work fine.
Smart apps on any smart TV or smart bluray player are a joke. I have a smart sony TV, another smart LG tv and a smart sony bluray player and another smart LG bluray player. All their smart features are barely OK but really ****ty in comparison to any cheap android stick or android minipc. Android mini pc is much more versatile when plugged into a regular TV. In my youtube uploads I deliberately showed an android mini PC being used with an old cathode ray TV and now that old smart cathode ray TV with android minipc is smarter than any new smart TV. on the youtube upload the picture looks crap, but on the TV its not crap. Reason it looks crap on the upload is because the cathode ray TV is 420p and i shot it in a 1080p camera and uploaded to youtube in 1080p and hence the 480p TV shown on 1080p camera upload looks crap. Just mentioning this to show that android mini pc is a better buy if you just want smart features.
If you want miracast the netgear ptv3000 dongle is good (also shown on my uploads) and this miracast on this bluray is also good. I havent used the toshiba so cant comment about its quality. I have used miracast on sony TVs in shops and they work fine.

try to see is the problem is some interference. You can check yourself by sitting in various areas around the tv with clear line of sight between tv and the note with nothing in between, if the case on your note has metal then remove the case have you updated the tv firmware. try to link TV to internet via ethernet or powerline adapters instead of wifi. the tv connecting to wifi and miracast at same time might cause some interference. hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.. I was mostly interested in 3d bluray and miracast from a single device... a better / faster UI & apps would be nice, but I probably won't buy the lg since it sounds like it probably isn't that much better than my LG TV, but costs more than the toshiba.
:good:

TV Out ?

Hello,
I'm wondering if "TV Out" is available for the Omnia ? I cannot find any cables on the web that is compatible with it and don't know if WP7 supports this...any ideas ?
Omnia 7 does not support tv out.
Closest WP7 device that has tv out is the LG Optimus 7 which has DLNA, meaning u can stream videos to tv wirelessly. If your tv does not support it, there are DLNA boxes you can connect to your tv to make it compatible.
Thanks for the info...I was wondering because of microsoft presentation but they were using "special" devices for this I guess!
i heard somewhere on this forum that they might release the software to let all wp7 devices do TV-OUT like they did at presentations but its really buggy or something like that and needs some work!
Its not gonna work cause Omnia 7 doesnt have any video output.
Either way Nokia used to have TV out through the 3.5 jack and the quality was horrible
The quality wasn't horrible, you can't expect HD its running at some uncommon res on a tv... And the phone doesn't suppose TV-Out at all.

One S video output resolution

Anyone who's got the phone yet tested if the One S outputs 720p through HDMI?
It's basically the only thing I can't find, I did however find that the One X does, but it has got a 720p screen itself.
Michael
Hello,
I have connected the one S to my sony HD TV.
the result is a bit disappointing for two reasons:
quality is not so good
latency for example when slide photos is high
I'm using a MHL cable from PNY:
PNY Adaptateur MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) vers HDMI®
supposed to be compatible up to 1080p.
I didn't check yet the format resulting from TV point of view. I will try to find that and tell you.
For photos on TV, the Sony and HTC integrated DLNA is far better but not working all the time(seems that the TV is not visible as DLNA client all the time)
Bonus question: Is there a difference from using an MHL-adapter og the wireless dlna thingy?
Probably more lag with the wireless. Its not the best i've used it on 1080p and 720p, I think its outputting the native resolution of the phone.
Anyone got some new inputs? Thank you

I am looking forward to getting a bluetooth keyboard&mouse combo and an MHL cable.
I am surprised that it doesn't do 1080p, I thought that was native to ICS and that the GPU/CPU is the same as the One X

Yeah I thought it could do that too, and the reports of lag when outputting is kinda strange. It should be fast enough at half of full hd..
I have tested again MHL after upgrading to 2.21. Now scrolling in the gallery is smooth and videos are read in full 1080p(recognized by the tv).
I even have tested games, it's awesome!

HDMI video glasses with Android phone

Thought i would shoot this question out there while still continuing to search for the solution.. Has anyone had any luck with using HDMI video glasses with an Android phone using HDMI mirroring? I have a EVO 4G running Cyan 7, HDMWin for mirroring, Crazyremote for remote access to my pc, and now just looking for video glasses to use as a portable monitor for the HDMI mirroring. Resolutions less than 720p would be fine too if there is a portable way of converting the resolution to something lower.
Thanks.

[Q] I am done with trying playing movies on my xoon?

What I am saying is when I try playing HD movies on it --it is just not HD anymore there is always a weird something like pixels intertwined in the background especially when there is a lot of action --it is just supposed to have a 720p HD screen and one can't enjoy it ..I also tried using stuff like handbrake in order to get it the right stuff but still nothing ..
Can you give us a sample of the video? It could be your video player, try MX player. 720p videos works just fine on my XOOM.
I look movies in Youtube app and the quality is great.
show sample since the display is fine.
download your porn from a more reputable website.

I have tried every MX player be player and a whole different players... and yes videos on YouTube doesn't make any problems
Sounds like your crappy encoding OR video source.
I have never faced this problem... 720p videos play flawlessly some 1080p videos get stuck. Either there is some problem with the ROM you are using or maybe a hardware problem...

Any thing I've encoded with DVD Catalyst 4 (tools4movies.com), using its XOOM HQXT setting, that were from high quality sources (bluray or dvd), look great on my Xoom's screen.
Playback of movies and TV programs via Netflix streaming on the Xoom also look good.
Playback of those same files or netflix via HDMI out to TV sometimes looks a little blocky. But are still watchable. (Netflix really depends on if its a "HD" playback movie or show to look any decent on a TV).
The Xoom HQXT encoded files look as good as those I've encoded (also using DVD Catalyst) for my MS Surface RT tablet, and Samsung Series 7 Slate PC (XE700T1A) using the Surface HQXT setting.
I hate to say it, but the screen of the iPad3 I have has more vibrant, and HD "TV" like colors, where as my Xoom looks more "washed out" in comparison. The Surface screen looks close to the Xoom.
EDIT: I use Mobo Player to play back on my Xoom.

If you use the proper settings, the Xoom can play great-looking 1080p videos.
visit this link on your Xoom using the stock web browser:

and use the stock video playback to stream the video.

What settings to use? Well, when it comes to making Good or even Great looking videos for your Xoom (or other device), it depends on 1. Quality source (crappy source video-in will produce crappy target video-out), 2. the optimum encoder settings for your playback device.
DVD Catalyst 4 has consistently taken care of #2 for me on my Xoom, iPad2, iPad3, BB Playbook, Surface RT and a few of my android phones. It has been the BEST, Easiest, and most reliable way to give me great looking videos to take with me. I've used it to encode DVD's, Blurays, camcorder videos, etc. And they all look great. Ok, so DVD rips don't look as good as Bluray rips, but that is because of the DVD source.
So my Suggestion... Read the following two links...
http://www.tools4movies.com/2012/01/dvd-catalyst-device-profiles-fast-hq-hq2-hqx/ (Note: 99% of the video watching done via my portable devices is done on the device's screen, so I don't use the 1080 profiles for the Xoom and such. Instead I stick with the HQXT for a great balance between output size and playback quality).
http://www.tools4movies.com/2012/04/motorola-xoom-avi-dvd-m2ts-mkv-and-bluray/
One draw back of having multiple play back devices (xoom, ipad2, ipad3, Surface, phone, etc), is that to get the best results, you need to encode the video using the right profile for your playback device. So for me, if I encode a movie for my Xoom today, and decide I want to watch it on my iPad as well, I have to encode the source for the iPad so I have a file encoded the best way for iPad playback. Or if I want to watch it on the Surface RT, I have to then encode using the Surface profile, etc. BUT DVD Catalyst does have profiles for all my devices and more! And they do a great job of adding profiles for newer devices as they come out.
Also keep in mind that I don't know if DVD Catalyst can get around copy protection on DVD's and Blurays as I use AnyDVD HD for this. So if your source DVD or Bluray is copy protected, you might have to deal with that before using DVD Catalyst. I do know that DVD Catalyst can't work with DRM protected video files, like those from iTunes, Ultraviolet, etc.
And NO, I do not work for the company who makes DVD Catalyst, nor am I connected to them in any way. I am just a very satisfied customer who has tried other options (Handbrake, Nero Recode, etc) and haven't been happy with the results until using DVD Catalyst.

Thank you KidJoe,
Actually if you use DVDs as a source, the videos you create using one profile will work on just about all your devices.
Only when you are using HD content, you might run into limitations with the iPad2 (max 1280x720) and your phone (depends on the model).
I haven't had any complications with playing HQXT 1080 on the Xoom, iPad3, Surface RT and the Playbook. They even work fine on the new NOOK HD's and Kindle Fire HD's

Thanks. Most of my stuff is encoding from Bluray now a days.
I'm doing it to put movies on my Xoom (using Xoom HQXT profile) for my Son to watch while we travel. When I first got my MS Surface RT, I decided to copy a few of those I had done for the Xoom right onto the Surface and playback was choppy. Run the original through DVD Cat again with the Surface profile picked and they look great on the Surface. And of course, on my wife's iPad2 the ones encoded as Xoom HQXT didn't play right either.
Encoding for each device is a small price to pay for great looking videos on the device that happens to be with us

Ah ok,
With Bluray, the resolution comes into play. The iPad1 and iPad2 don't like anything larger that 1280x720. If you change the resolution for the Xoom in "Modify" to 1280x720, the movies you convert for the Xoom will play on the iPad2 as well.
I'm not sure why they would be choppy on the Surface RT though. When my RT came in, I grabbed a bunch of Xoom files I had on a drive, and played them without issues (and the bigger, wider screen did make it look even better )

Problems with netflix and MHL adapter

So I recently bought an S3, along with a samsung MHL HDMI adapter. One of my intended uses for the phone was to watch netflix on my TV, since my laptop broke a few weeks ago.
Anyways, the MHL adapter seems to work great for everything.. EXCEPT netflix. Videos are horizontally letterboxed, looks like a square aspect ratio. And more importantly, subtitles do not show up. I watch a lot of foreign films so this is a deal-breaker. On the phone itself, everything looks perfect, widescreen and with subtitles, but somehow the MHL adapter messes everything up on the way to the TV.
I tried googling and I only found one solution, to disable hardware overlay in developer settings, but that didn't work for me.
Also, the video doesn't look very good at all, both the resolution and compression quality looks pretty ****. Is netflix not streaming in HD on android?
Does anyone know any fixes for these problems?
