I am from the Android world, zero experience with WP7 and I want to buy this exact phone and possibly flash a custom ROM
and the goal is to get this to work on Page Plus (Verizon MVNO) and NOT Sprint
the phone is currently set up for C-Spire - a smaller CDMA carrier in Mississippi (formerly Cellular South)
I have access to CDMA workshop and other CDMA tools, such as qpst
I need Verizon coverage and a REAL keyboard at a cheap price ($55/month) and this looks like it could be the ticket!
I had the same question and found a post from bing searches with someone claiming to have succeeded in activating it on Page Plus. Unfortunately the person never really detailed how he did it.
I'd still like to know how it can be done.
The Arrive can be flashed to P+. I'm using one on it. You'll need the paid CDMAWS, not the hacked version.
Also, before you do this, remember that the 3G will be intermittent. The reason for this is that you cannot upload the authentication file to the phone's file system, so the phone never gets true 3G, it cycles between connecting and 1XRTT. To make this work properly, you'll need to have a ROM loaded that's a direct port from the HTC Trophy, or an Arrive ROM that has the Verizon operator package in it. I've yet to learn how to do this, but as time permits, I'll figure it out. I've got a few requests in to ansar and leadpoizon, two ROM Chefs that are heavily involved in GOLD_C (our phone's) development here.
Here's what I did:
1. Put the phone in Diag Mode, using ##MFG# on the phone dialer and connect to CDMAWS.
2. Obtain your MSL/SPC by using the HTC Method, then write it to 000000.
3. Program the phone using CDMAWS just as you would an android device; put in MIN, MDN and set your data settings to your#@vzw3g.com.
4. Load a modded PRL to put the phone on Verizon's Towers, and lose the roam triangle. (Attached)
5. Call P+ and give them the MEID of the Arrive. They'll tell you to do *22890, but do NOT do it.
6. Once they say it's active, make a test call, and enjoy your Arrive.
The steps above will give you voice calls, SMS, and spotty 3G. MMS will not work, unless you hack the registry of the phone. The phone works great with WiFi, though.
If you're brave, try forcing the phone into 1X by finding a non-EvDo PRL. You'll be showing that you're roaming, but it may yield better data results. If you do set 1X though, be sure to set MIP type (in CDMAWS) to Simple IP.

So I just got my N5 and now I'm having problems with data. Whenever I try to go to a website, it would just direct me to tmobile's login website and a sign into network notification pops up as well. When I log in, the website doesn't even load. I've tried changing APNs, network mode, custom roms and several solutions over the internet but nothing works. I have a grandfathered data plan so that might be the problem but it works fine on my Galaxy Nexus. I'm taking it to the store tomorrow but if anyone can suggest a solution it'd be great.
I have exactly the same issue. Please, let me know if you've solved it.

Any update on this issue? Having the same problem w/ 16GB black N5
Same issue, get popup saying to sign in, enter number and password, then get a screen that says "webpage is not available" Calls and texts work, just not data.
Have you calling T-mobile? 611 on your t-mobile phone?
Customer Service there has always been really good about helping me!

Also if any of you installed anything custom, go into settings : about phone, and see if you have a baseband and imei number listed, if not, try a factory reset, or taking it all the way back to stock. Some people are having similar issues in the kernel threads.
As bizarre as this might sound, give T-Mobile tech support a call and make sure your account is provisioned for an Android device. Apparently mine was configured for a Blackberry and while it didn't have any effect on my N4, it gave no end of trouble to my N5. (Read: I had the same redirect issues)

It does sound rather strange, which is why I'd to see if this works for anyone else. I spent about a day and a half mucking around with pretty much everything I could think of device-side and a few calls with tech support reps, then, lo and behold not fifteen minutes after my account gets re-provisioned from Blackberry to Android (and cycling airplane mode) the redirects stop.

Thanks for the advice on what to ask for.
I went to a local store this morning. They seemed pretty clueless (the guy helping me was apparently really new -- he had never called cust svc on behalf of a customer before and kept having to ask for help about what to say or do). They ended up swapping my older sim for a new sim. That changed me from having this issue on HSPA to having this issue on LTE (so I guess that was good). Then they called cust svc and got to tech support. I wish I would have just called myself as the store person was a clueless middle man. And he kept holding my Nexus 5 like he was about to drop it.
Anyway, I guess the "data feature" on my account was an older one meant for windows phones (but that sometimes works on Android phones too). I think it was showing on my acct as something like "Budle Web SmartPhone". He switched the data feature to a different one that supposedly works with Android, Windows, iPhone. It fixed it about 30 mins after I left the store (after cycling airplane mode). He promised it didn't change my actual plan and is still unlimited data. On the tmo portal, it now shows as "4G Web - Unlimited"
So I think the bottom line is yea, call cust svc, get to tech support, and have them reprovision your data service/feature to the more modern one meant for all phones.
Oddly, I just noticed my $59.99 Even More Plus 500 TTW plan is now showing as a $29.99 plan. I can't wait to see if my next bill is actually cut in half or if this is just a display oddity.

Hey I had this for weeks and it was driving me mad. I finally found the issue, its to do with your /etc/hosts file. I found updating adblock plus (the application, not just the filter list) sorted it for me. Hope this helps someone else.

The situation that aggravates me the most is that the data plan works with brand new iPhone 5S, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, any other unlocked android and windows mobile phones, yet Nexus One, Nexus 5 is getting redirected/blocked.
I was straight forward with all Reps i talked to, explained all detailed and technicality behind how their system is only blocking very small percentage of the customers. How many people still have $6-10 data plans and purchased nexus 5 or want to use their old nexus one? probably like 200-800 nation wide, most of customer already lost their old data plans.
Spend 90 mins with Loyalty Customer Care and Tech Support back and forth:
i was told that i would have switch to more expensive plan if i wanted to have the same amount of data and insisted that i don't need/use that much data and should go with 500mb or 2.5gb choice. Why would i downgrade or pay extra 35-45 dollars because T-mobile enforced a block on couple android phones, yet let iPhone users can use cheap data plans with no problem and no special configuration of phone(simply pop-in sim card and LTE data&speeds work) .
One of the chat session ended successfully, Rep promised to forward issue to upper management.

First you need to make sure that APN name, user name, password and proxy settings are correct for your operator and data plan.
You will get this data by calling customer service.
What is actually blocking you is the operator's proxy server, the one found in APN settings.
Try to delete proxy IP and port or disable proxy server for your APN. After that try surfing to see if it works.
Many operators have their internal routing settings set up in way that data connection works without a proxy server.
If your data connection does not work when you remove proxy IP address and port from APN settings then connection without proxy is not allowed by operator.
Proxy server is used by operator to identify you as a customer on various operator's web portals where you can change your data plan settings, purchase stuff, etc. If your data connection works without proxy, you will not be able to access any operator's internal web page for customer access. But not much people actually need those web pages.
Proxy also tries to detect your device and adjust the looks of operator's web pages you visit according to your device.
If device model is not recognized by proxy for some reason (usually outdated device database on proxy server) it could forbid access to data services. In that case only solution is to call customer service again and again until they fix it.
Hey everyone, this is my first tutorial, and I'm going to show you how I get free calling and texting through Google Voice as well as a data plan for only $10 a month. Yup, that's correct, my phone bill is only $10 a month now. However, to do this, I ended up dropping Verizon and buying a T-Mobile tablet sim, which is data only. They said it wouldn't work, but I am going to show you that it does.

i. Introduction
This all started out since I traveled to Spain for over a month and had to get a prepaid data plan. While I was there, I wanted a data only plan so that I could still get calls and texts from Spain numbers as well as wanted to call and text with my U.S. Google Voice number. After much research, I finally figured out how I can do it. This took a ton of research, but my phone is proof that it works. I hope to be able to help you all achieve what I have from the method below. Thanks for reading!
ii. Disclaimer
Like any other tutorial, by following these directions, you claim sole responsibility for whatever happens to your device. If for whatever reason your device doesn't work, I will not be held responsible for your, or anyone else's actions. This tutorial is my gift to the community and may not be subject to work in all cases.
iii. Limitations
By using this method, there are some limitations.
The first limitation is when switching from network to wifi and vice versa. If you are in a call while using the mobile network and your wifi connects, your phone call will be lost.
Since you will be using multiple services to make it all work, there will be some lag with the voice
Adding to above, since you will be using VoIP, calls may appear to "stutter" based on how good of signal you have in the area. (It doesn't stuter the majority of the time)
With google voice changing throughout this year, this method may not work in the coming months
iv. Prerequisites
root and s-off for custom roms
Any custom rom, my preference is ViperOneM8 1.8.0 (2.1.0 didn't work correctly with it). Main thread here. Download 1.7.1 full and 1.8.0 OTA since there isn't a 1.8.0 full
The 0.89.20.0321 radios. The reason for this is the network wouldn't switch cell towers correctly. Radios available here. Support thread here.
xposed XVoicePlus 2.4.2 available here. This handles sms+mms (provided GV supports the MMS). Main thread here.
You are also going to need a tablet data plan. Below are some options I have researched:
T-Mobile prepaid data. You can buy a sim card online, or in store. $10/1gb*, $20/3gb** Allows roaming to Canada and I think domestic roaming. At least, I was able to use Rogers HSPA+ in Canada
Redpocket (Tmobile 4g, AT&T 3g, Sprint 4g, Verizon 3g) $10/1gb, ***$30/3gb available online. I don't believe they allow roaming.
StraightTalk (Tmobile, AT&T, and possibly Verizon) $15/1gb, $25/2gb. I put this last in the list since there are lots of complaints of customer service and the network not working properly.
*This promotion goes until 2015. Once the promotion is over, it's $20/1gb and $30/3gb
**$20 plan is unlimited in the sense that you get bumped down to 2g speeds after you hit your limit. The 1gb plan doesn't offer "unlimited"
***Only this plan allows "unlimited" where you get throttled after your limit.
v. SIM Card and Phone Setup
The first step is to flash the .0321 firmware which is the one that will properly hand-off between 2g/3g/4g connections. Otherwise it will get stuck on 4g and when you switch towers it won't reconnect unless you toggle airplane mode.
Insert your SIM Card
Install ViperOne and in the aroma settings, select your preferences, then choose Tmobile as your carrier (If you chose an mvno on a different networt, select the option accordingly).
Update ViperOne immediately to 1.8.0. It will automatically restart the installer, so hold power+VolUp for 15 seconds, then power+VolDown to boot into bootloader, then recovery.
If you are on wifi or have data, sign into your google account, otherwise skip it.
Go to settings, and click mobile data. You may have to wait until the sim card is detected until you see that setting. If it show up, go to the alternative settings below, then when done go to the next step.
Click network operators and select search automatically, or search for your own if it doesn't register.
Click access point names and select T-Mobile US LTE. If that isn't there, click options, and reset to default. If it still doesn't work, keep resetting to default until it appears. Otherwise, create your own with APN="fast.t-mobile.com" and APN type="default,supl,admin,hipri" and name it whatever you want and save.
For network mode, choose "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto"
Restart your phone again and you should be connected to the 4g network provided you are in an area that receives it.
Alternative Settings (If above doesn't work)
Go to settings, click venom tweaks, go to misc, click phone info.
For preferred network type, choose "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto"
Open the menu, select radio band, USA Band (If this option isn't listed or says unsuccessful, let me know.)
Restart your phone and go back up to the directions and finish the rest.
vi. Calling Setup
Login to google voice, click the settings icon in the top right corner, and check google chat for you forwarded calls.
Download SIPdroid from the market (free). We will not be using this application as your dialer, you can use any dialer you want after the tutorial is over.
In SIPdroid click New PBX linked to my Google Voice which should be at the bottom when you install it. If it isn't, then clear the data in app settings and try it again.
Verify the username and email is correct (they should be the same as the google voice account you are using) and make your password the same as your google voice account. The password needs to be the same so that the service can login to your gv account for calls. Now you can uninstall SIPdroid
On your phone, or computer, go to http://pbxes.org and login with your username and password (which is the same as your gv account).
This next part is very important. Click personal and fill in personal data. I was told you are required to enter this information, otherwise your account will be deleted after 30 days. For server, select the timezone with the www3(Nernburg) server. Originally when I used this method, I was having problems connecting, this seems to be the only server that works for this method. Don't forget to save
After saving, click extensions on the left. After it loads, you'll notice under extensions it says sipdroid <200>. Click on that and it will bring up a list of settings. You'll notice that your username is your gv account + "-200" (ex. gvaccount-200).
Get back on your phone and open the dialer (I'm using the htc dialer that came with the one for this tutorial), and open settings.
Under internet call settings, click accounts, then add account
Code:
Username: gvAccountName-200 (don't put @gmail.com or anything after)
Password: gvAccountPassword
Server: pbxes.org
check "Set as primary account"
Click Optional settings and change transport type to TCP, then options > save. Don't click the back button because it may not save it
You'll notice that now your SIP Accounts will show "[email protected]" and it should register and say receiving calls.
Click back and under internet call settings, click use internet calling for all calls.
Congratulations, incoming and outgoing calls now work provided you have a data connection.
vii. SMS/MMS Setup for Native Messaging
Install Xposed framework and XVoicePlus 2.4.2, activate XVoicePlus, then reboot
Install google voice from the market and sign in.
In the gv app, click sync and notifications, uncheck text notifications, and receive text messages from gv app (So you don't get duplicate notifications)
Open XVoicePlus and enable it. Select your GV account, and keep polling frequency to whatever you want. I keep mine on never since they are push notifications from the GV app.
Congratulations now you can send and receive SMS from any messaging app as well as MMS provided GV supports it, which currently, doesn't handle it well. Hide google voice from your app drawer and you are set.
To disable gv sending/receiving whenever needed, uncheck the option in the XVoicePlus app.

I finally purchased a used Sprint S5 recently. My plan is to put the phone on the Boost Mobile Network. Boost Mobile stores are able to unlock my phone to Boost network, HOWEVER the MSL is needed. Well I'm sure you already know, Sprint is giving me a difficult time. A Sprint CS says the phone's ESN is clear to activate on Sprint, however due to "the way it was purchased" they could not unlock the phone (or give me the MSL) for other carriers. What do I do?

On way is to activate it on someone elses account for just 5 minutes or so. Will give you chance to make sure it works. Then reactive their own phone and you're done. Now have your friend check his email and they will have an email from sprint thanking them for activating the new phone. Look at the email.. It will show some of the device specifics like model number, phone number and also an activation code. The activation code is actually your msl. It's a standard email from Sprint whenever you activate or reactivate a phone from your PC.
So find a friend with a Sprint phone and make sure the account is in his (or her) name. Have them log into their Sprint account on a PC and once they're logged in, scroll down to the "About My Devices" section. In this section you will see is a dropdown box that says "manage my devices". Click the down arrow in the box and choose, "activate new phone". It will take to you to a very straight forward wizard to guide you thru it. Choose no to all the options that they offer and when you get to the part of the activation about resetting the phone prior to activation, don't worry about it. Just click thru the steps of demo window that pops up then close that window after the demo is done. Once you finish the demo and close the pop up window you can continue. Follow the prompts until you click the activate button and turn off the phones as per the message that pops up. When you turn on your phone it will be activated with a voice and data signal. The whole process takes less than 5 minutes. Now check your friends email for your msl and you're done. Then do the same thing again but choose your friends phone to activate (as the new phone). Also note you will need the id numbers under the battery or have them ahead of time.

I was thinking more along the lines of an apk like "Get MSL" to acquire the lock code. I've been utilizing the search function on both XDA and Google, but it seems that any method using an APK or program is defunct due to the new Software upgrade. Does anyone know of any other way?
Google GTv3.1.5.apk and GTUpdate2_v3.1.8.apk by idone.apps . The "GT" stands for Galaxy Tools; It will internationally unlock you sim as well as give you your MSL, enable hotspot etc... I beleive it was taken off google play, just google the 2 apk files and you'll find them.
Hey guys, I’ve recently entered the android headunit world and purchased a android 10, 10.1” joying headunit (octa-core 1.8ghz, 6gb ram 720p).
The headunit is fantastic and exceeds my expectations in every way, except the 4G mobile data function doesn’t work.
I’m from Aus, so I’m using a verified working 4g mobile broadband Telstra sim that is a GSM type (which joying says is compatible).
The unit detects the SIM as it should, identifies it as a Telstra sim, shows full 4G signal in the top bar however it has no data stream.
I have the mobile data function enabled, roaming enabled, no data saving features turned on and have made sure to set all my apps to unrestricted access.
The interesting thing is, if I turn the headunits hotspot feature on, and use the units 4g network as a hotspot and connect my phone to it, everything works perfectly and it shows a perfect data stream.
However the unit itself cannot use its own data.

But seeing as how the unit can actively stream 4g data via the hotspot function, there doesn’t seem to be an issue with SIM card settings or anything hardware related.

I don't know if this will help because you said your hotspot works but have you checked your APN (access point names) settings to see if there are two options to switch between?
There was only one in there which was the default automatic setting. But I figured that if the headunit could still send and receive data via hot spot to another device that the APN must have been correct?

Yeah, that's what I would have figured too. But I'm not an expert. Is there a DNS setting you could change? Perhaps add a custom DNS hostname such as dns.quad9.net ? I'm just guessing here.
I’ll have another look tonight but I don’t remember seeing any settings to change the DNS host name.
I was able to hotspot data just fine however the headunit had no internet.
Verify that the acces point names (APN) are set correctly. I had to copy the settings from my phone (using telstra) and apply them to the headunit.
This can be done by going to Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > [first one in list]
I had to change APN to telstra.wap and APN Protocol to IPv6. Also, there's a bug where the text is white on the input box. Have to select it to read it.
This worked with both the newer Android 10 (universal 10.1") and older Android 8 (Honda acord kit) on telstra data sims

I ordered a JY-UQD11N6G about 10 months ago and since then I have tried EVERYTHING that has been suggested here and by Joying. I've tried the universal build from FYT from this very informative post. The head unit recognizes the SIM and properly populates the APN data, but for some reason the time on the device sets back to the build time and date of the ROM every time the device reboots. I have also deleted the prepopulated APNs and created a new APN according the information on my phone when the SIM is inserted and functional which corresponds to the information here.
It does get (or keep) the right time zone, but it will not keep a persistent time through a reboot with a consistent power source.
Joying has sent me an unreleased ROM that doesn't fix the issue. I've tried different external antennae and I've torn the device apart to ensure that the internal antennae are properly soldered to the carrier board (they are). At this point I'm tired of paying $30/mo for a line I can't use.
I just noticed two one pixel wide green lines vertically traversing the LCD, but before I request a warranted replacement, is there anything else I should try?

T-Mobile post-paid card taken straight out of a display phone in the store worked perfectly, but the cheapest plan was $40/month, and that’s too much. The Verizon card I took out of my iPad and tried did the same as the pre-paid T-Mobile card.
The 4th one I got is from Mint Mobile. Since they use the T-Mobile network, I thought it was worth risking $45. From their website I bought a SIM card with the 4GB phone plan at $15/month for 3 months. It works perfectly! After 3 months I can renew the plan for 12 months and stay at $15/month. 4GB is more data than I will ever use in a month just streaming my music, navigating and doing a few other things, like checking weather/weather radar.
Go with Mint Mobile. It may fix your data issues.

I tried Mint and had the same positive experience, and a Visible (Verizon mvno) card did not work.
But it had bars and showed me an lte connection, it just didn't give me any data. Apn settings were blank, but also wouldn't let me change them, oddly. I'd like to try again as I'm sitting on a visible sim for the next two months that would be cool to use but wondering why some carriers work and others don't, even if they are the same carrier (mvno vs non)?
I have Verizon working on mine, you have to add the APN settings manually via an app from the playstore. However....the device is unknown to verizon so they keep adding it as a phone to my account....for like $50+ a month...I told them i just want data and it should be classified as a connected device.

what provider? what are they charging you for on your account (device type)?
I haven’t used the data service for a while since I started just using apple car play, however my Carrier was Telstra (Australia) and it was something like $15 a month for a
2 GB 4g data sim.
At least as far as I can remember, it did have a mobile number associated with it so I think they were classifying it as a phone plan.

What’s the APN app you got from play store?
I used an app called AddAPN on the Playstore for my Joying and it worked well.

Brings up the Add APN page directly without going through settings
play.google.com
Because the settings app doesnt allow access to edit them...the app edits the apn information since the stock settings app doesnt allow this for some strange reason..
