New Android 10, 10.1” joying headunit no 4G data - FYT Android Head Units

Hey guys, I’ve recently entered the android headunit world and purchased a android 10, 10.1” joying headunit (octa-core 1.8ghz, 6gb ram 720p).
The headunit is fantastic and exceeds my expectations in every way, except the 4G mobile data function doesn’t work.
I’m from Aus, so I’m using a verified working 4g mobile broadband Telstra sim that is a GSM type (which joying says is compatible).
The unit detects the SIM as it should, identifies it as a Telstra sim, shows full 4G signal in the top bar however it has no data stream.
I have the mobile data function enabled, roaming enabled, no data saving features turned on and have made sure to set all my apps to unrestricted access.
The interesting thing is, if I turn the headunits hotspot feature on, and use the units 4g network as a hotspot and connect my phone to it, everything works perfectly and it shows a perfect data stream.
However the unit itself cannot use its own data.
I have followed all of the instructions given here:
Android car stereo, Android 10.0 Head unit
How to solve the 4G problem on Joyin --> How to solve the 4G problem on Joying head unit? Following ideas are for solving the 4G problem when there i
www.joyingauto.com
But seeing as how the unit can actively stream 4g data via the hotspot function, there doesn’t seem to be an issue with SIM card settings or anything hardware related.
Has anyone come across this or have any idea what I should do next?
(Let me know if you need any unit details)

I don't know if this will help because you said your hotspot works but have you checked your APN (access point names) settings to see if there are two options to switch between?

There was only one in there which was the default automatic setting. But I figured that if the headunit could still send and receive data via hot spot to another device that the APN must have been correct?

Yeah, that's what I would have figured too. But I'm not an expert. Is there a DNS setting you could change? Perhaps add a custom DNS hostname such as dns.quad9.net ? I'm just guessing here.

I’ll have another look tonight but I don’t remember seeing any settings to change the DNS host name.

I was able to hotspot data just fine however the headunit had no internet.
Verify that the acces point names (APN) are set correctly. I had to copy the settings from my phone (using telstra) and apply them to the headunit.
This can be done by going to Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > [first one in list]
I had to change APN to telstra.wap and APN Protocol to IPv6. Also, there's a bug where the text is white on the input box. Have to select it to read it.
This worked with both the newer Android 10 (universal 10.1") and older Android 8 (Honda acord kit) on telstra data sims

Absolute legend, thanks mate.
I’ll try that tomorrow and see how it goes!

Thought I’d let you know it worked a dream, just had to change the apn and the protocols.
Thanks again!

I ordered a JY-UQD11N6G about 10 months ago and since then I have tried EVERYTHING that has been suggested here and by Joying. I've tried the universal build from FYT from this very informative post. The head unit recognizes the SIM and properly populates the APN data, but for some reason the time on the device sets back to the build time and date of the ROM every time the device reboots. I have also deleted the prepopulated APNs and created a new APN according the information on my phone when the SIM is inserted and functional which corresponds to the information here.
It does get (or keep) the right time zone, but it will not keep a persistent time through a reboot with a consistent power source.
Joying has sent me an unreleased ROM that doesn't fix the issue. I've tried different external antennae and I've torn the device apart to ensure that the internal antennae are properly soldered to the carrier board (they are). At this point I'm tired of paying $30/mo for a line I can't use.
I just noticed two one pixel wide green lines vertically traversing the LCD, but before I request a warranted replacement, is there anything else I should try?

I tried 4 different SIM cards. T-Mobile pre-paid didn’t word. The head unit recognized the card and everything looked right but no data. T-Mobile post-paid card taken straight out of a display phone in the store worked perfectly, but the cheapest plan was $40/month, and that’s too much. The Verizon card I took out of my iPad and tried did the same as the pre-paid T-Mobile card.
The 4th one I got is from Mint Mobile. Since they use the T-Mobile network, I thought it was worth risking $45. From their website I bought a SIM card with the 4GB phone plan at $15/month for 3 months. It works perfectly! After 3 months I can renew the plan for 12 months and stay at $15/month. 4GB is more data than I will ever use in a month just streaming my music, navigating and doing a few other things, like checking weather/weather radar.
Go with Mint Mobile. It may fix your data issues.

I tried Mint and had the same positive experience, and a Visible (Verizon mvno) card did not work.
But it had bars and showed me an lte connection, it just didn't give me any data. Apn settings were blank, but also wouldn't let me change them, oddly. I'd like to try again as I'm sitting on a visible sim for the next two months that would be cool to use but wondering why some carriers work and others don't, even if they are the same carrier (mvno vs non)?

I have Verizon working on mine, you have to add the APN settings manually via an app from the playstore. However....the device is unknown to verizon so they keep adding it as a phone to my account....for like $50+ a month...I told them i just want data and it should be classified as a connected device.

what provider? what are they charging you for on your account (device type)?

I haven’t used the data service for a while since I started just using apple car play, however my Carrier was Telstra (Australia) and it was something like $15 a month for a
2 GB 4g data sim.
At least as far as I can remember, it did have a mobile number associated with it so I think they were classifying it as a phone plan.

What’s the APN app you got from play store?

I used an app called AddAPN on the Playstore for my Joying and it worked well.

AddAPN - Access the Add APN se - Apps on Google Play
Brings up the Add APN page directly without going through settings
play.google.com
Because the settings app doesnt allow access to edit them...the app edits the apn information since the stock settings app doesnt allow this for some strange reason..

No 3G icon or data connection

Hello everyone,
I got my Captivate yesterday shipped from letstalk.com. Everything with it has been working well, except I don't get a data connection with it at all, except WiFi.
As instructed by the sticker on the box the sim I am using is from my old phone, a Samsung SGH-A707 flip phone. The sim is a little over two years old. When the sim is in that phone, I get a 3G icon immediately.
I have tried turning the phone off, leaving it for several minutes, turning it back on again. Also removing the battery.
When I go to Settings, Wireless and Networks, Mobile Networks, Access Point Names, I see ATT WAP listed. I have tried adding another Access Point Network based on settings seen elsewhere in this forum which differed slightly by specifying a username and password, and not having the proxy and port set. But selecting this other APN has no change.
When I go to Network Operators all I see is an unselectable 'Default Setup' item. Others have reported seeing network connection information there, can anyone confirm on their Captivate?
Checking or unchecking 'Data roaming' does not seem to have any effect.
Under Settings, About Phone, Status the Mobile Network Type is listed as 'HSDPA' but Mobile Network State is 'Disconnected'.
LetsTalk are sending me a new SIM to try, but since I get a 3G connection on my old phone my suspicion is that this is a phone problem.
Does anyone have any other ideas though? Any help would be much appreciated.
Wow well you found something I hadn't yet. There was some talk about whether the captivate did hsdpa or not.. and according to the setting you looked at, it does. In that setting does it show your network is on aT&T? You shouldn't have to create a new APN, the default one should work. Sure you don't have the phone in airplane mode? I'm sure that's a stupid question, just asking.
If you don't have a 3G sim card I hear 3G wont work. You can get a new sim from ATT for free. Oh and about hsdpa ATT disables that Icon and uses a 3G one. I seen a test somewhere with two dif phones one with a 3G icon and one with the H getting the same speeds.

Yeah it shows AT&T under Network.
Nope, not in airplane mode, but thanks for checking, I'd rather you'd assume I was stupid than not ask me the question!

It is a 3G sim, at least that's what it is labeled as. Like I said I (apparently) got a 3G signal on my old phone. And a new sim is on the way.
on the sim does it say 3G with flames around it lol (thats how my last sim was and it was 3G)
I went to the ATT store to get my captivate. I had an old sim ATT logo with flames that worked in a N1, N97, Bold 9700 and iPhone. I too showed no 3G. They had to replace my sim and it started working. They couldn't explain it.

Great, that gives me some hope the new sim that is on the way could fix it, thanks!
I had this problem as well. This fix worked for me:
Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile Networks
Check both boxes
- Use packet data
- Data roaming
ATT / Captivate Android 2.2
Hope this helps,
Did you find a solution for this? I'm having the exact same problem with my Captivate. No 3G icon and no packet data connection or mms. When I try to go to a page it immediately gives me the "not found: check your data connection" page, and when I try to send a mms, the 3G icon appears like if it was trying to connect and send it and then disappears when the message fails to send.
I just updated to 2.2 today and I no longer have 3G as well.
just an FYI as long as wifi is turned on you will not see the 3g icon.
I have noticed that when you turn wifi off you generally will not see the 3g icon until you do something with the phone that requires data connections
Turn off wifi and try opening a website via browser...the 3G icon should pop-up automatically at that point

Hello sir, I tried this and now i have 3G(icon popped up and internet/mms works) but am i incurring roaming charges?
For me even that's not working, I think my stupid phone is broken.
When I got a refub'ed Captivate for my partner via AT&T online store since it was only $49, I followed the instructions that came on the box, and everything worked except no 3G/data. So thinking that it might be because of a refurb'ed unit, I called AT&T. They told me to bring it into a corp office store. Fortunately, there's one right down the street from me. I took it in, they fiddled with it for about an hour, including swapping 3 different SIMs, and told me that it was a defective phone. I asked then how do I get a replacement. The rep told me to contact cust service for them to ship a replacement out and it'll include instruction to ship the defective one back since they can't replace refurb unit there at the store. So I went out to my car, called the cust service. The cust service rep told me that I have to send the defective one in first before they'll send me a replacement. I got angry and I went right back in the store, grabbed the rep that was helping me out and told him to please talk to the cust service rep to work things out because I'm not leaving the store until it's resolved. So they talked on the phone for about another 30 min. Then they hung up. The rep fiddled with it for another min, then handed me the phone and the 3G/data was working. Appearantly it was the way that the phone was registered with the system, something was out of whack and 3G/data was not available for that phone line. I then recalled that when I ordered the phone from AT&T, I got an email with instructions that I had to follow, which I did, then I followed the instructions that came with the box. I didn't think much at the time, but it seems like the instruction was telling to do the same thing as the email's instruction was except it was via a slightly different way. So I think I might have inadvertly register the phone twice. In any case, when that happens, 3G/data is not available and yet, the reps checking in the system found the account was setup correctly with the proper plans, changed plans, swapped SIMs, and came to the conclusion of defective phone when the phone was perfectly fine. I don't know if this will help any one. But if your phone is not flashed or rooted, you might want to have AT&T check your account and phone registration.
Go to Settings -> Wireless and network -> Mobile networks -> Access Point Names. Inside that option go to Menu -> Reset to default. (Reboot your phone)
Worked for me, i have a samsung captivate thats rooted running on 2.2 froyo and i was deleting some user data, believe it was dialer data (do not delete that, it also deletes your texts) and i all of a sudden my internet stopped working,i tried every setting and i even think there weren't any APN in the list of APNs because of deleting rampage, so i reset my phone and after that i reset the APN back to default settings and rebooted my phone and it worked. For some of you guys, if it still has an APN(the cingular one) in the list of APNs then all you have to do is reset it back to default by clicking menu with the menu button on your phone and click reset. It should work.

Worked like a charm on my Samsung Vibrant S on Virigin ... this gem of a tip shall be remembered. This started yesterday on the road when data was needed for a work emergency. If only I'd known it then. :-(
Now to fix the Wi-fi from turning itself on and off of it's own free will. *sigh*

[Q] MVNOs and roaming on the DS - fix possible?

Sorry to bring this up again, but the other threads on the topic are either very old, for different phones, or both.
I'm using an MVNO, specifically Bob (232-11), who use the infrastructure of A1 (232-01), so technically I'm roaming 24/7. Sadly the Desire can't seem to tell the difference and refuses to use data services unless I allow data roaming. Of course that can get very expensive very quickly if you live near the border ...
Once upon a time that was considered an Android bug (or an idiosyncrasy at least), only HTC seem to be the only ones who haven't come up with a solution by now:
HTC Legend (stock 2.2) - needs data roaming on
HTC Desire S (stock 2.3) - needs data roaming on
LG P500 (Optimus One, stock 2.2) - works fine with data roaming off
Samsung i5700 (Galaxy Spica, CM6) - works fine with data roaming off
Samsung Galaxy S - most custom ROMs and even newer stock ones work fine with data roaming off
So, obviously there's a way to fix this in software, maybe a whitelist or something? Or an option to go by MCC only, which is crude but would work for me? (I know that there's supposed to be apps that warn you when you're really roaming but I can't say I really trust those.)
I found a nice solution over at the SGS forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12693880&postcount=5
Of course it needs root, which we don't have yet on the DS, but still, it's a first, or rather second step.
I also have a MVNO. I suggest you enable data roaming and manually select your network operator, instead of leaving it to automatically connect to any other operator available in low coverage areas. This should prevent costly roaming charges from happening accidentally (since you would have to manually switch operators when abroad).
The only other problem is that Sense seems to think that your current location is not "home" so world clocks and stuff like that show one more location than needed. Of course some programs, like Spotify, always complain that you're roaming; that's a small price to pay for a much reduced phone bill .

That doesn't work in practice (at least, it didn't on any Android phone I ever had) because there isn't actually an option to lock the phone to a particular network. You can chose a network, sure, but the phone will still switch when it thinks that it has to.
Oh well, there are two options, one to automatically choose the network and another to manually select it. Supposedly once a network has been selected manually it won't jump to another one. But if you say it doesn't work, I take your word, I can't test it.

Tmobile "sign into network", no data.

So I just got my N5 and now I'm having problems with data. Whenever I try to go to a website, it would just direct me to tmobile's login website and a sign into network notification pops up as well. When I log in, the website doesn't even load. I've tried changing APNs, network mode, custom roms and several solutions over the internet but nothing works. I have a grandfathered data plan so that might be the problem but it works fine on my Galaxy Nexus. I'm taking it to the store tomorrow but if anyone can suggest a solution it'd be great.
I have exactly the same issue. Please, let me know if you've solved it.

Any update on this issue? Having the same problem w/ 16GB black N5
Same issue, get popup saying to sign in, enter number and password, then get a screen that says "webpage is not available" Calls and texts work, just not data.
Have you calling T-mobile? 611 on your t-mobile phone?
Customer Service there has always been really good about helping me!
go into settings, wireless & networks, more, mobile data, accesspoint names, and make sure you APN is fast.t-mobile.com
tell me how it goes.
Also if any of you installed anything custom, go into settings : about phone, and see if you have a baseband and imei number listed, if not, try a factory reset, or taking it all the way back to stock. Some people are having similar issues in the kernel threads.
As bizarre as this might sound, give T-Mobile tech support a call and make sure your account is provisioned for an Android device. Apparently mine was configured for a Blackberry and while it didn't have any effect on my N4, it gave no end of trouble to my N5. (Read: I had the same redirect issues)
I'm having the same issue... My sim/account has worked fine with data on numerous phones, none of which were t-mobile phones but all worked with tmo data just fine. With Nexus 5, it is redirecting all http queries to a tmo signin page, whether with apn set to fast.t-mobile.com, epc.t-mobile.com, network type set to LTE, or 3G...
I guess I'll head to the local tmo store tomorrow and see if they can fiddle with my acct without dropping my older plan. It looks like my acct's data service is "T-Mobile Smartphone Unlimited Web" -- they picked that generic Smartphone service since they didn't know what my phone was (Nokia N900 running Maemo) when I first signed up for T-Mobile service. DeltaPavonis, I'll first have them see if they can switch that to something Android-specific. Although I dislike that the account can't just stay generic and work with any device I put my sim in...

It does sound rather strange, which is why I'd to see if this works for anyone else. I spent about a day and a half mucking around with pretty much everything I could think of device-side and a few calls with tech support reps, then, lo and behold not fifteen minutes after my account gets re-provisioned from Blackberry to Android (and cycling airplane mode) the redirects stop.

Thanks for the advice on what to ask for.
I went to a local store this morning. They seemed pretty clueless (the guy helping me was apparently really new -- he had never called cust svc on behalf of a customer before and kept having to ask for help about what to say or do). They ended up swapping my older sim for a new sim. That changed me from having this issue on HSPA to having this issue on LTE (so I guess that was good). Then they called cust svc and got to tech support. I wish I would have just called myself as the store person was a clueless middle man. And he kept holding my Nexus 5 like he was about to drop it.
Anyway, I guess the "data feature" on my account was an older one meant for windows phones (but that sometimes works on Android phones too). I think it was showing on my acct as something like "Budle Web SmartPhone". He switched the data feature to a different one that supposedly works with Android, Windows, iPhone. It fixed it about 30 mins after I left the store (after cycling airplane mode). He promised it didn't change my actual plan and is still unlimited data. On the tmo portal, it now shows as "4G Web - Unlimited"
So I think the bottom line is yea, call cust svc, get to tech support, and have them reprovision your data service/feature to the more modern one meant for all phones.
Oddly, I just noticed my $59.99 Even More Plus 500 TTW plan is now showing as a $29.99 plan. I can't wait to see if my next bill is actually cut in half or if this is just a display oddity.
Adblock plus
Hey I had this for weeks and it was driving me mad. I finally found the issue, its to do with your /etc/hosts file. I found updating adblock plus (the application, not just the filter list) sorted it for me. Hope this helps someone else.
My situation is i have family plan ( "Even More Plus™ 3000mins + Unlimited Text + Unlimited Data(5GB PhoneFirstWebPlus)" and i am almost a decade old customer.
The situation that aggravates me the most is that the data plan works with brand new iPhone 5S, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, any other unlocked android and windows mobile phones, yet Nexus One, Nexus 5 is getting redirected/blocked.
I was straight forward with all Reps i talked to, explained all detailed and technicality behind how their system is only blocking very small percentage of the customers. How many people still have $6-10 data plans and purchased nexus 5 or want to use their old nexus one? probably like 200-800 nation wide, most of customer already lost their old data plans.
Spend 90 mins with Loyalty Customer Care and Tech Support back and forth:
i was told that i would have switch to more expensive plan if i wanted to have the same amount of data and insisted that i don't need/use that much data and should go with 500mb or 2.5gb choice. Why would i downgrade or pay extra 35-45 dollars because T-mobile enforced a block on couple android phones, yet let iPhone users can use cheap data plans with no problem and no special configuration of phone(simply pop-in sim card and LTE data&speeds work) .
One of the chat session ended successfully, Rep promised to forward issue to upper management.
N5-stock everything, brand new SIM card, tried many APN settings, none worked for data. Perfect LTE reception, phone calls, text&mms messages, yet data block/redirect.

First you need to make sure that APN name, user name, password and proxy settings are correct for your operator and data plan.
You will get this data by calling customer service.
What is actually blocking you is the operator's proxy server, the one found in APN settings.
Try to delete proxy IP and port or disable proxy server for your APN. After that try surfing to see if it works.
Many operators have their internal routing settings set up in way that data connection works without a proxy server.
If your data connection does not work when you remove proxy IP address and port from APN settings then connection without proxy is not allowed by operator.
Proxy server is used by operator to identify you as a customer on various operator's web portals where you can change your data plan settings, purchase stuff, etc. If your data connection works without proxy, you will not be able to access any operator's internal web page for customer access. But not much people actually need those web pages.
Proxy also tries to detect your device and adjust the looks of operator's web pages you visit according to your device.
If device model is not recognized by proxy for some reason (usually outdated device database on proxy server) it could forbid access to data services. In that case only solution is to call customer service again and again until they fix it.

[Not-Fixed] How to install new Z3 D6603 LTE on AT&T network

[Not Fixed] see bottom of this post.
It is fairly easy to install a new D6603 to work completly on the AT&T network. It is not so easy to find the answer of how to do it in the threads and posts. I tried many suggestions and wasted a lot of time. Hopefully this will save you from that fate.
First you must know that you can't use the IMEI number of your new phone if you want it to work completly as it should. If you use the Z3 IMEI you will have trouble with data of various sorts and the phone will go off line when on LTE after 20 or 30 minutes and you will not receive calls or SMS messages. I do not know why but it has been suggested that the AT&T network does not recognise this phone so it causes trouble.
If you have an AT&T nano-sim from your old phone then just put it in the phone. (Cut downs work but can cause other problems some say.) When the SIM is inserted for the first time into a new phone there is a prompt that asks if you want to download the APN. Hit 'yes' and the phone downloads the APN itself.
If it does not ask then go to Settings>More>Mobile Networks>Prefered Network Type and be sure LTE (Preferred) is selected. Then connect your phone to the internet and then go to Settings>More>Internet Settings and select AT&T. You should be good to go.
If you need to get a nano-sim then go to the AT&T store or call and they will give you one or send you one for free. You will need to use the IMEI number from a LTE phone that is already on the AT&T system. You can use your old phone or borrow the number from someone. If the rep installs the sim in the Z3 with the 6603 IMEI don't worry. Just call support later and tell them you sent your new phone back and want to go back to your old IMEI or have a new IMEI (from an existing AT&T phone). They will enter it and off you go. The phone from the IMEI will show in the picture on your account page. Big deal!
Update: This worked for hours last night but this morning it is back to not receiving calls. Simply turning wifi off and it began to receive calls as GPRS was switched back on. My wifi was on which has been said to cause problems. I will test with wifi off and report back. Had "no service" instead of AT&T on upper left of lock screen. A full shut down for several minutes than re-boot solved that.
YMMV. I've been on ATT with a Z3 purchased from Sony store for several months and it was registered in an ATT store by scanning the IMEI off the box followed by updating Internet settings in Setup. ATT online shows unknown model but everything works including LTE and MMS. There is something else involved when problems like this occur probably some setting not getting reset. I registered the Z3 on a new line with a new Sim card because I wanted to take my time moving stuff off my old phone--this may have avoided the problems.

AT&T's system sometimes takes a while to get updated with new IMEIs that trigger LTE provisioning for a users' account.
Once your account is provisioned for LTE you never have to worry about it again, but sometimes if you have a phone the system doesn't recognize, it is a pain to get AT&T to properly provision your account. Supposedly properly trained in-store reps can do it - the key being "properly trained" - Never try to do anything "unusual" by calling AT&T customer service, and NEVER use a franchise/kiosk in-person for service - make sure you're at a corporate-owned store! Even then, some stores might have incompetent staff. I've been lucky that all of my local corporate stores are pretty well staffed.
So you are saying that your Z3's with wifi and LTE on with AT&T are working as they should?
With LTE off my phone responds normally with wifi on. With LTE and wifi on it will not respond to calls after a 30 minute sleep. It does not show missed calls. Calls go straight to voice mail after 2 rings. Could you tell me what level your LTE dBm's are? Thanks!
I was told not to give them my imie# but, after recvng the minisim I had to call them in order to 'provision' it to work at all and they needed that #. I have never had any problems personally and am assuming this may be because you gave them the wrong #. Again I am only guessing. Oth, if I had had a different imie to give, I would have done so myself.
It is very strange and I am feeling it is more signal strength related than how you provision your phone. (Once it is provisioned correctly.) It seems that more people have less problems when they already have a nano-sim and just plunk it in the new phone. This might indicate that they already had a strong signal from the get go. My old HTC One + get's a better signal than the Sony in the same locations with the same (new) SIM. With the Devilcase bumper on it gets 5% less. My very limited tests yesterday seemed to indicate that it was signal strength related. I am not enough of a conspiracy theorist to imagine that AT&T would program their system to not function correctly with sims that are provisioned with these Sony phones which they are obviously ignoring for some reason. Or am I?
I had all kinds of problems with the Z3 on AT&T. The IMEI caused an issue since AT&T linked it to a flip phone and therefore couldn't provision LTE. I changed it to an old AT&T LTE device and then I was able to get LTE but was having the same issue with calls going directly to voicemail and texts showing up hours later in bunches. I found the solution was to switch off LTE in the quick settings menu. All calls and texts came through and on time while LTE was off. If I needed a data boost to stream, I turned it back on until I was finished streaming. This was while on KitKat. After upgrading to Lollipop, I was able to keep LTE turned on and calls and texts still arrived on time.
I use data rarely. Mostly wifi. If I don't leave LTE on, my phone reverts to wcdma preferred. And why can't LTE just work without me having to constantly turn it back on? What bugs me is having the APN settings greyed out. I want to be able to turn it off. If anything it seems the phone itself is preventing me from accessing the sim. It feels like I'm borrowing something which contains lots of MY private data. I know my phonebook is stored locally but I also noticed there is no option of specifying the sim or not. Anybody know how to switch APN on and off? In fact, overall even rooted, I still feel like I have almost no power over it. I can't even disable the cellular connection without going full on airplane mode and I do not trust that. I don't even fly so that needs work for sure. Dumb question but could I buy a working nanosim from say 7-eleven that my apn switch will work with?
"Anybody know how to switch APN on and off?"
On my Z3 on OTA stock Lollypop I have an icon in quick settings to turn LTE on and off. Drag two fingers down from the top of the screen. If no LTE icon then select the pencil icon at the top and select the LTE icon. There is also a mobile data icon switch there.
To turn off your radio completly you can get the Advanced Signal Status app and select additional info at the bottom and click phone information and turn off radio. Probably a number of ways to do it but that is one.
Sim contact storage was a way to move information from phone to phone. You can still do it but not really necessary with cloud backup and storage. Google does it for me without me having to do anything which I like. I still save contacts to the sim just because I can. Export and import in your contacts app menu.

Works fine here. I don't pay attention to the dBm estimates since these aren't measured with calibrated test equipment and vary widely. Those numbers are basically worthless.
The only valid comparison is data performance in a given environment (ideally a difficult weak-signal one) - and at my desk with very weak signal, every phone I've ever used performs similarly to the Z3.
"Those numbers are basically worthless."
True, but we have narrowed this down to the possibility that it might be signal related so it is worth a shot. If people whose phones are working fine would measure the LTE dBm on Advanced Signal Status at the location where their phone sits and works well the most we might possibly see some measure of difference in the phones that are not working. Most of the non-working phones seem to work sometimes so signal strength is the next best parameter to rule out. Thanks!
Here are the screen shots of my phone with LTE on, LTE and wi-fi and LTE off and wi-fi.
How do the working phones compare? Does your CDMA (voice) also go to 0% when LTE is on and GSM = n/a?
Thanks. I think adv sig nfo actually works. I'm amazed actually. I can't find the phone's native greyed out apn switch anyways which really makes no sense.

Question Lack of Verizon Compatibility

I installed a Teyes CC3 unit about a month ago. I have a Verizon unlimited data plan and hotspot so I was using this combination to receive WiFi. It was a bit inconsistent so I called Verizon and negotiated a good monthly rate for an added android tablet line. I picked up a sim card from Verizon and installed it in the sim card slot as shown in the Teyes direction or what appeared to be the sim slot. The unit indicates 2 sim slots but I could only locate one. The exposed sim slot was poorly installed and it was tricky to insert the sim card. I now wonder if the two sim slots are hidden behind the perimeter trim? After installing the sim card it did not show up on the sim card interface. I called Verizon to activate the sim card to confirm it was properly installed and the rep. stated that Verizon does NOT support the Teyes android unit! Question: 1. Could anyone confirm if they have been able to connect to Verizon with a Verizon sim card? 2. Is the sim slot(s) visible on the unit or are they buried behind the plastic trim piece. Thank you
Does it have an external sim reader. The joying I have has to have the card all the way to the right on the reader for the unit to pick up the card.I am also trying to get onto the Verizon network, but no dice. I had to trick the network into thinking my unit is a phone for them to give me service, that's as far as I got. Still playing with the APN settings, but nothing get.
Did you ever find an answer to this? I have a verizon sim card as well. Shows 4G but no actual data
Didn't pursue this further after Verizon stated they don't support the T'eyes unit. I just use Hotspot on my unlimited data Verizon plan. I downloaded a Hotspot Automatic app so with Hotspot activated my phone automatically connects to the T'eyes when I turn on the radio. Works fine.

What app did you use?
I don't think these support VZW radio bands.
Just set mine up with VZW, so I was wrong, it must have been my USMobile SIM that didn't support VZW network.

App is HotSpot Automatic by Christian Heinisch
See, I still want this to work without my phone hotspot because I'm not the only one who drives the car (and/or has an unlimited plan).
I have a spare Verizon sim for the summer that I'm parking (Visible, my kid is going away to camp) and I notice that when I put it in, I'm getting bars, and a 4G/lte icon. It is connected to the network, but I think the APN just won't populate and it won't let me set it manually.
If it didn't work, there wouldn't be bars I think. I mean, it's obviously registering itself on the network. I've used this sim in plenty of "unsupported" phones before, as long as it supports the right LTE bands, Verizon is basically a GSM carrier now. They will tell you otherwise, but even GSM unlocked phones seem to work in my experience as long as they are activated elsewhere first.
Got it working!
Please share exactly how you’ve accomplished or can you send me a dm? I have been at this for months, spending hours then giving up. Please! That’s awesome

By that I mean how did you identify what the APN settings would be? I can’t seem to find something that works.
Did you try to copy the settings from your phone?

Yeah I’m unable to view them on my iPhone. Google says if carrier allows to check in cellular data settings but mine don’t show there

Sorry, you can try googling the apn settings for your carrier, or maybe put it in an Android phone. Or contact your carrier and ask them. There isn't really a network-wide setting that we can give you. I can tell you what I used on my visible line, but it's different then page plus or Verizon post paid or any other Verizon line would be so I'm not sure how useful it would be unless you're also using Visible.
I was able to get internet working on my Teyes CC3 with the following settings, although I will mention that I had to use a 3rd party APN app to unlock the edit function as default it is locked through the android interface.
I spent 2 hours trying to use other recommended APN settings using mms.vtext.com etc and they never worked.
Any options not listed were left as blank, no set, etc.

It just opens the default android settings, but it does let me save what I change. The other app in the previous posted video did NOT work for me on my teyes cc3

Hate to dredge up this old chestnut, but did your settings stick? I added the APN, but it disappeared after a time. Any way to get it to stick?

Happy to help.
The settings did save. I rebooted the cc3 unit, and I had data and continue to have data. I did want to try editing the settings a bit, but I noticed when I opened the app and opened the APN settings, that they were blank, despite that my APN settings were still saved in and working in my unit. So yes the settings did stick, I continue to have data and it works perfectly fine, except if I open the app and try to view the settings they will display as blank as if they are not there, but my unit is working!
