S8+ 955FD lags - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

My 6 months old 955FD with Exynos CPU started to lag very badly especially in Pokemon go. I'm taking about not able to toss a pokeball properly. I have already used game tuner to cut the gaming resolution to 50% but to no avail. The lags are more noticeable during day time and smooth during night time. I've noticed similar pattern with my Note 5 (Exynos too). Can't believe a 6 months old phone will behave as such. Anyone having similar issues?
None of the lags are noticed on my iPhone 7+.

ofc there will be no lag on iPhone since their ram management is on point
Samsung phones have bad ram management system and it bugs the hell out while doing heavy tasks
check if u have any unnecessary apps running in background

Check for apps /services running in background. Under Development Tools
Uninstall /Disable what you don't need.
Install Greenify and hibernate apps at screen off that you don't need running in background.
This solved my lag and battery lif3 issue after upgrading to Oreo.
I just got another Samsung fw update 2 days ago fixing performance and specifically battery life issue by reducing running background processes.
I am on CRD1 stock rom now

[Q] Disabling Cores (Root)

So I finally decided to root my G Flex 2. I've been talking about disabling cores for a while. Thought it may help the thermal throttling issues. Once I rooted the device I downloaded "Multicore CPU" and started disabling cores in a couple different combos. I've finally settled on disabling cores 4 and 7. Since I disabled the two cores heat has not been an issue and cores 5 and 6 are running at 2ghz. Reduced lag, and benchmarks have shot up some. Personally enjoying the lagless environment. Figured I'd post my experience with this. I'm hoping overall battery life will be better as well. Won't know for a day or two though. Oh and it stays cool while charging and in use. It used to get really hot before.
Anyone else have any experience with this?
So here are results of disabling cores and thermal throttling or lack there of now.
I also want to note that my benchmark scores were lower than the note 4 after some updates until now

4 and 7 are not active unless 5 and 6 are under heavy load I believe. I've just made it so they never turn on.

Ok on YouTube mine gets a bit warm but not as hot as in Chrome (on normal sites, nothing fancy). Watched twitch in Full hd for an Hour yesterday without any heat...seems like some Apps are better optimised for the sd810 than others
Are we getting a sd808 by disabling 2 Cores?

It looks like SD810 is a peace of crap. The Flex 2 compared to my Oneplus One is like an Opel / Vauxhall Astra compared to an BMW X6.. Very disappointed..

I am also coming from oneplus, I must say you are sadly right. Newer is not necessary better in this case.
I hope with some optimalization this can be a Ferrari.
I was already let down by LG a few years before, let's hope it is not the case now.

Hope that with android 5.1 everything will change for better.. :fingers-crossed:
I have the AT&T version of this phone and for me cores 4,5,6 and 7 are always on except when the cpu goes above 36C then cores 4 and 7 automatically get disabled. I'm also not experiencing any lag and it's actually very smooth and fast. It also doesn't get very hot unless I run Antutu benchmark like three times in a row. What kind of CPU temperatures are you guys seeing when your phone gets hot?

You can download Cpu Temp from the play store or I also see it in kernel apps like Trickster MOD.
My galaxy S4 used to get warmer then this phone when watching Youtube or browsing in Chrome.

[Q] S6 High RAM Usage and Heating Issue

Hello, I recently upgraded to S6 from an iPhone 5. S6 is a great phone however, it gets hot very easily(for example while taking a photo or having 4-5 app opened in background) and free RAM was always below 700 MB without any app opened. I disabled nearly every bloat app and replaced TouchWiz with Nova and amount of free RAM is about 1.1 GB when there is no app in background. But it still gets hot and battery drains quickly during this time. Also my gaming performance is worse than my previous phone, iPhone 5( MCPE never lagged in my iPhone, but its significantly slower on S6). I checked other threads about that issue here but only solution is resetting to factory settings. Will that work? Thanks all.

you have to wait for 5.1.1 update(should come now in June if you trust the leaks)..and Sammy needs to step up there game with the RAM usage!

Do you auto-back up your photos? If you have that setting on, whether Drop Box or Google, change it to "on wifi only" and your battery drain will disappear. The worst offender from my experience for battery drain is when auto backup is on and your data connection is spotty. Drains it faster than anything I've ever seen on Android.
Thanks for answers. No ingenious247 I don't auto-back up my photos. Also I don't even keep my Cellular Data on. I hope 5.1 update fixes this.

[Q] Ram management issue on the s6 causes lag?

Hey guys I am sorry if this question is asked again, but does the ram management issue on the s6 cause lag in day to day usage or it just deters the multitasking performance? Gonna buy the s6 tomorrow, and Im damn excited

It will mean if you use the back key to come out of apps, sometimes they will reload, such as phone and messaging etc, but only usually games will be closed regularly and aggressively. General lag isn't a problem, just a slight delay loading aps back into memory once they've closed.
I find if I back out of apps using the home key this problem is reduced.

I've never really experience any huge lag. I turn off my device once in 2 days so maybe that helps.

90% of users won't even notice the memory management "issue". Only hardcore multitaskers will. The "issue" is the S6 kicks apps out of cache very quickly so whenever you tap the multitask button, the app relaunches/redraws instead of resuming from a hibernated state. There is a little lag (~0.5 second), but it is not a dealbreaker that would prevent you from enjoying the phone.

Chrome lags on every device I have owned, including the S6. Any app that uses Android WebView will lag.
I don't use facebook, so I can't speak for that app.
No Play store lag on my S6.

Really, I did'nt notice the problem with multitasking (because the S6 is so fast) before I read about it here.
Also, all the **** you hear about the battery life is not true. Of course, it's not the best out there (only 2550mah, so of course not) but it easily get you through the day (normal usage) and at least into another. The battery have gotten way better with a few updates (it was damn bad at the start) and might get even better when 5.1 hits in a few weeks.
Just turn of basic stuff, that noone uses anyway (almost) like, location history, wifi always scanning and such.

Glad to hear that, by the way 5.1 just came out recently and its showing mixed reactions among the users. Some people says that the battery life has improved a lot after the update and some just says its the same.

No, it's not out yet. At least not for the international version. Some users think, that the reason only one carrier got it yet, is because it is a "test" version. Not sure tho.
But well, as said, only out for one carrier for over a week now.

Yeah the battery life is overblown. It is no worse than any other phone with <2500 mAh battery. Anyone coming from a 3000+ mAh battery will be disappointed, but anyone that is used to plugging in every day won't know any different.
If you are rooted, I also recommend App Ops to manage permissions and save more battery :good:
Check Force gpu rendering and no lag. As far as it regards multitasking it sucks.

overheat and lag

im thinking of buying this or note 4 i have an s5 right now. does rooting debloat and fixing the thermal settings fix the lag and overheating?or is there anything else that will. im a heavy user play switch in between games alot and depend on a decent battery life and dont like lag.
Basically same question here, except i already bought it.
By the way, i got it rooted.
I just got my Flex 2 and after debloating and tuning the thermal configuration I'm really enjoying it! Performs great.

Debloat and thermal settings has turned my phone into a powerhouse. On an average day, I see no more battery drain on the Flex 2 than I did on the original Flex (with a bigger battery and a smaller number of cores). However, if you're heavily into gaming, the GPU will certainly be enough, but for 3D intensive games the battery drains rather quickly (as expected, really).
I have compiled a list of everything I've removed for debloating here.
So no issues with overheating? I switch between games like madden , clash of clans, boom beach, magic rampage, and outwitters constantly so I was worried about the heating issue for a heavy user such as myself

The thermal throttling settings are still enabled, just set to a higher temperature. I have mine set to 65°C (as per the thermal throttling thread), and I know processors can get much hotter than that without failing (Apparently the HTC flagship cores get up to 80°C, don't while me on this, it's just a passive memory).

Overheating

Hi! I have G930F. I installed TWRP and installed DevBase v5.7 rom. When i flashed TGP kernel and played heavy game while 10 min, phone gets so hot. When i cheked battery temperature its showing 43°C. It is normal?

Thx, well it's not exactly the same problem as you have since my CPUs are running in low power state when the phone is not used.
Anyway, when I start browsing the internet, the phone gets hot and when I'm playing games, it just gets super-hot. (not in charge while using it btw).
Previously, I had a Nexus 4 which is famous for its overheating problems, but the S7 is worse.
This, the ill placed speaker, the poor quality of the AMOLED, I'm so disappointment with this phone.

The AMOLED screen on the S7 was widely regarded as the best screen on a mobile phone when it was introduced.
You're running an unofficial ROM + kernel and running into problems and are blaming the phone? Lots of people seem to hold LineageOS up as the solution to all problems, but on many devices it seems to be a giant hack.
This screen is a piece of **** (mura effect & spots when lowering the brightness), my Nexus 4 screen is at least 10X better.
I'm running Cyanogenmod/LineageOS since the very beginning, never had this kind of problem before...
The S7 Exynos phones do tend to get a bit warm if you're browsing certain websites, Facebook and streaming, and it'll get hot if you're playing resource intensive games like GTA & Bully. That's what happens when your device's CPUs can reach a max clock speed of 2704MHz. Take a look at what apps are running in the background first.
I'm only able to read the battery temp sensor, no other sensor available despite having tried a lot of monitoring apps.
Idle temp : around 29-33°C
Heavy use : up to 45°C
Past 39°C, the phone gets really uncomfortable to use.
I did further testing with another S7 (carrier firmware, brand new), launched a stress-test app on both phones at the same time and after 15 min, mine is 4°C hotter (battery temp). It's not really relevant, maybe due to my tempered glass preventing heat dissipation or some LineageOS optimizations, I don't know. Anyway, the S7 feels way hotter than my previous phones.
it's strange that power user/advanced user have to complaining about overheating and comparing with other brand when they are running unofficial software and kernel. and i think the word 'overheating' is about the cpu/chipset not the battery. *correct me*

Yes but I only have access to the battery sensor. The frame is hot on both phone tough.
i have a snapdragon version of S7 and i don't think exynos version have overheating problem running on official firmware. running Oreo right now and still don't have such problem. and FYI using the phone INFO apps (google playstore), i can see the temperature of the cpu.
