Anyone tried Moonlight game streaming (aka NVIDIA GameStream) on their U11?
Long story short, the U11 seems to have issues streaming over WiFi where other lesser Android phones do not.
1) No matter what the bitrate, I get constant stuttering and the audio is very choppy on the U11.
2) My AC1900 network pushes well over 200Mbps with 3ms latency on speed tests on the phone.
2) It DOES work perfectly with a USB ethernet adapter. I can set set Moonlight to 1080p 60fps @ 40Mbps and it streams fine - no audio issues, no frame drops.
3) My Surface 4 (Moonlight Chrome plugin) and Nexus 5X (!) (same Moonlight Android app), can stream nearly perfectly at at least 20Mbps on the same network.
4) Even a crappy Moto E streams pretty smoothly @ 10Mbps on 2.4Ghz!.
So to me this clearly seems like a WiFi latency issue specifically with the U11....
I've tried:
1) Both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands, same result.
2) 2 different AC1900 routers, same result.
3) Enabled "High performance mode" in developer options, same result.
What I'm wondering is, what happened to the "WiFi optimization" setting on the phone - did that get removed in the Oreo update?
Has anyone encountered something similar - wondering if maybe someone on a non-stock ROM/kernel has any different experiences?
I'm mostly just pissed that it works perfectly fine on other Android phones, but not the U11.
EDIT: Factory reset the phone and it resolved the issue.
Try an app called boost+ by htc. You might ha e too many programs battling for ram.
Try checking your Internet settings. Most carriers won't let you change this but a speed testing app might help find the bottleneck.
Try an app called adguard. Lots and lots of adservers run in the background without you knowing. Even when offline they still keep pinging and retrying until they get a connection. Adguard will blackhole them.
High performance mode shouldn't be necessary as when off battery saver it runs at full tilt anyway. When you play on data plan deactivate wifi completely. That will stop the phone constantly pinging wifi.

Hoping someone could shed some light and/or point me in the right direction. I just go my TF and upgraded to the latest stock firmware from ASUS. I am having two issues that may or may not be unique to me, one being almost a deal breaker for me.
1) My wifi speeds are running below my expectations. I am measuring around 11Mbits/s reads, while using various SMB explorers. I have run internet speed tests that have measured around 20Mbit/s reads from the stock browser though. I am running on a wireless 54 Mbit/s g-router. While I didn't expect 54Mbit/s, I did hope for the 30ishMbit/s I have been getting with various laptops.
My concern mainly lies with video streaming from my NAS as 11 Mbps is borderline for my uses. I am getting those transfer rates from the NAS and from my Win7 setup as well. My hope is that the SMB file sharing apps aren't optimized and I can wait it out and hope to get at least the 20 MBps rates that I am seeing from the internet speed tests. Should I try to throw in a wireless N in to the mix and if so besides WEP (which I assume is limited to 54mbps) is there any other encryption that the TF supports over WiFi? I ask so I can research the best match wireless -n access point for the TF. I don't see the ability to change the authentication/encryption as the 'Advanced' tab on the TF settings is greyed out.
2) I am getting significant audio sync issues while recording video. Playback of video is smoother with the new firmware but I see an occasional stutter. I could live with that if the audio stayed in sync (playing back with built in player and mobo). THis one is not a dealbreaker as I will rarely use the video but I am concerned this is an issue with my device. The realtime playback during recording is terribly stuttery (though this isn't a big deal since the playback is far smoother).
I haven't rooted yet but has anyone used cifs.ko successfully and seen better transfer rates than some of the SMB implementations in terms of transfer rates?
Thanks for any advice on routes to go or just general confirming that these are issues you don't see.
Anyone able to chime in on this for me?
1) It sounds like you need to upgrade your wireless hardware. WEP is easily crackable nowadays by anyone who googles how to do it, and has been for a while. WPA2 is usually a much safer option if your equipment doesnt support it then its probably time for an upgrade. Wireless N routers are pretty cheap nowadays via ebay, so there's not really any reason not to get one (I've bought a few for around £5 each on there). It should increase your throughput dramatically, and increase the range you can use your wifi devices at. I'd also advise setting up MAC filtering and hiding your network from prying eyes if you do all this to make it more secure. Plenty of guides on the net for that, and it's very easy to do.
2) I don't get the audio sync issues you have, but then the quality of the audio via video recording is terrible, so I've not used it much. I've yet to try this, but perhaps plugging a microphone into the headset jack will help with your sync issue, just an idea to try. And if it doesnt help then perhaps another app would.
thanks for the reply.
I will try both suggestions.

Any well known brand (such as Belkin, Netgear, Linksys, Buffalo) will do you fine. Just check out their product page from the manufacturers website before you buy. Things that it should have as basic specs are a NAT firewall, 256bit WPA2 encryption, 2.4ghz operating spectrum and obviously compatibility with your current operating system. An easy to use setup is always a must for those not very confident in their tech abilities.
I have been noticing a lot of Wi-Fi disconnects while using my tablet and my phone. I keep getting disconnects and overall slower performance even though my internet is 30-D 5-U and i get better results then that with speed test on my computer but my phone speed test is about 12 down and 6 up when connected to Wi-Fi
My problem is this...
I can try to watch youtube through the youtube app and pick a crappy non HD video thats like 30 seconds long and spend 5 minutes waiting for THE AD to load... i Tried using the chrome browser and i get mildly better results... the video actually loads but buffers for 1 to 2 minutes for every 3 seconds of video i am shown.
So i tried to fix this by setting my router channel to 11 seeing as there are about 15 networks in range of me and i started getting better results.
then i had an issues with my computer getting ip conflicts if i turned it on while my phone was on the network since my PC was set to a static IP so i had to set my tablet and phone to a static aswel.
So.. after i did that i stopped getting the conflicts but now when i am playing Clash of Clans i keep getting disconnected... often... im licky if i can keep the game going long enough to do 1 attack without getting disco. (thats about 3 minutes if you never played the game)
so i dont know how to fix these disco's.. i am still getting slow overall performance from sites like youtube and even general internet searches at times. it seems like my router is refreshing or something and forcing my Wi-Fi connections to reconnect. If i have my tablet and my phone next to each other they do NOT lose connection at the same time but randomly. this issues makes no sense to me... i have no other ideas.
And before you suggest the "obvious" ive probably already tried it.
Router Linksys wrt160n
Tablet Asus eeepad TF201
Samsung Note 3 (t mobile)
Fresh install of windows (7 days old and problem was present before reset)
all drivers and firmware up to date
phone tablet and pc are all on static IP
NOTHING else is connected to my network or using my internet except my phone and tablet
i have no viruses / malware
my signal strength is EXCELLENT when i get disco and does not diminish during the disco
bump cause i m still having this issue... seems worse then before even. and its only mobile devices on my network or jst wifi connected devices.
what can i do to fix this
Hi All,
Have lots of stutter playing a video over my local WIFI. Video is 6Mbps (720p). When copied to external SD card and played from there, it's smooth. So I'm pretty sure this indicates my hardware and MX Player is all fine. I'm using the KitKatt 4.4.4. ROM.
Things change though when I play this through BubbleUPNP (source is minidlna on FreeBSD). No transcoding should take place. Then I get lots of stutters. Have also tried to play this by using File Manager HD, connect with sftp and open the video directly. Probably plays slightly worse.
Does not seem to be a CPU issue, I watched this with top, load tends to stay around 0.7, sometimes getting up above 1, but can't find much relation to stutter. CPU is around 23-40%, with 60% idle.
You would say this indicates a network performance issue. Have the tablet is within a few metres of the Netgear R6300 route I have, and distance doesn't seem to matter too much. When using a tool like Speedtest.net I hit 17Mbps over my ADSL network, so WIFI doesn't seem a limiting factor. I've even tried iperf, I get 19-33Mbps when doing that (so from tablet to my minidlna server).
I tried copying the file with File Manager HD to my external SD card, but felt slow, i.e. perhaps even less then 1MB/s. But that could be File Manager HD or the write speed to my SD card, not sure.
Other things I've tried: different player, doesn't make any difference.
I'm grateful for any suggestions people may have. Playing a 720p video over a DLNA network shouldn't be this much trouble.
Some more observations: on an old laptop, link speed 54Mb/s, I have an iperf value of 34.6Mbits/s. If I do an rsync of a 1GB file I get 2.88MB/s, so quite respectable values.
Have installed "WiFi Speed Test" on my TF300T and get 21.91Mbit/s with the tcp client test (download), which is quite respectable, and perfectly in line with other tests (AnandTech for example). However, when I do the smb client test, I get between 5Mb/s to 6.5MB/s.
Using rsync, if I download the same large file as with the laptop using rsync, I get about 1.67MB/s.
So clearly I have an issue with this tablet or ROM, not with my wifi network it seems.
Keen to hear "WiFi Speed Test" values from anynone, especially SMB/FTP values. The problem doesn't appear to be with simplistic tests (iperf), but any more complex network protocol is a lot slower. But having said that, 1.6MB/s should be enough to play 6Mbps video, but possibly the rate may not be sustained enough. Continuing the investigation.
If on your link you only get 5Mb/s to 6.5MB/s. on the smb test , it's kinda expected that your 720P / 6Mbs video will stutter, especially if it's variable bitrate or when the network fluctuate.
smb protocol has a lot of ovverhead and tends to behave badly on wifi / latency so you get less throughoutput on smb than rsync or a direct tcp test
If you don't need transcoding, you will be better to mount the smb share natively (use something like cifs manager for example) and play it directly from there.
Playing a video through the file manager's sftp or smb own libs is less efficient and will tend to give stutters every now and then as its process goes in background while the video is played in foreground.
As for stats: on a 65 Mb/s wifi link I get the following on my TF300T:
tcp client: 43.6 Mb/s
rsync: ~17Mb/s
native smb: ~12Mb/s
wifi speed test smb: ~8Mb/s
file HD manager smb: ~5Mb/s

Yeah, that's twice of what I get, so all your numbers are double of mine. Maybe it's my Netgear router?? I'll test against a different WiFi router.
On a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 I get 26 Mbps - 47 Mbps. Considerable fluctuation.
I have now tested the tablet against another R6300, no nearby wifi, performance worse then I have at home, and at a company wifi network, also not so good.
I then replaced the firmware with the latest DD-WRT, nothing much seemed to change.
I have no wireless security enabled on my network as all clients use openvpn. I then switched to using WPA2+AES, and turned off openvpn. Suddenly I started to see numbers much more similar to Tim's.
Obviously I had tested with and without openvpn against stock firmware, but that didn't seem to make much of a difference. And the fluctuation was always considerable. But with DD-WRT it seems to make quite a difference. Hit 40Mbs with wifi speed test tcp client pretty regularly.
However, it didn't make any difference with playing the video! But thanks to DD-WRT I now have graphs for bandwidth monitoring. What I saw was spikes of 40-60 Mbps for several seconds, then nothing for several seconds, then it spiked again. What it seems to me is that the MX Player, or more likely BubbleUPnP client, has problems prefetching the content. It simply doesn't do it consistently enough at 6Mbps, causing stuttering, because when the buffer is empty, it can't fill it fast enough for a second or two.
Does anyone know how the T-Mobile Binge On (streaming of video and music without using up your high speed data allotment) when tethering? I am using a dedicated phone with 2GB of high speed data that is permanently tethered to a router in my home out in the country. Right now I can play music directly from that phone over bluetooth to a received and I'm pretty sure that's fine. However I'd like to add a smart tv on that wifi and/or chromecast from the phone to that TV (i think the latter case still has the tv do the video streaming). The question is, will T-mo consider that data as part of Binge On or will it go against my high speed usage? If latter, any way around it? I'm fine with getting the reduced quality content if it doesn't burn up my high speed data bucket.
Hello, i have an Exynos S10e, unbranded.
I have some problems with tethering (mobile hotspot).
The speedtest is good, but sometimes there are some "lags", the connection seems to "stop" for some seconds (pages don't load) and then it restarts as normal. Also the ping seems to be normal, about 30ms.
Another thing: i used to play some browser games sometimes, now they are not usable, there are too many lags. I don't care too much about browser games, but it's just a signal that something is wrong, i don't have these problems on my old device (G2 mini, same carrier and same sim, same place and hour).
I tried to disable the "energy saving" option on mobile hostpot settings, but nothing changes.
Any idea on how to solve this?
Overall it's not unusable, but it's disappointing to have slower internet using a new phone.
Same here. And the April 2020 update broke USB tethering. See also: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...ng-doesn-t-work-after-the-update/td-p/1174158
Waiting for the May 2020 update to see if USB tethering will work again.
Today i used the tethering with another pc and it works much better.
It may be a problem of compatibility between wi-fi chips, or something similar.
I'll update this thread if I'll discover something more.
I tried USB tethering and seems to work much better than wifi hotspot.
I updated to android10, don't know if it's the "april update" you talk about, but now it doesn't show other update requests.
