I have been noticing a lot of Wi-Fi disconnects while using my tablet and my phone. I keep getting disconnects and overall slower performance even though my internet is 30-D 5-U and i get better results then that with speed test on my computer but my phone speed test is about 12 down and 6 up when connected to Wi-Fi
My problem is this...
I can try to watch youtube through the youtube app and pick a crappy non HD video thats like 30 seconds long and spend 5 minutes waiting for THE AD to load... i Tried using the chrome browser and i get mildly better results... the video actually loads but buffers for 1 to 2 minutes for every 3 seconds of video i am shown.
So i tried to fix this by setting my router channel to 11 seeing as there are about 15 networks in range of me and i started getting better results.
then i had an issues with my computer getting ip conflicts if i turned it on while my phone was on the network since my PC was set to a static IP so i had to set my tablet and phone to a static aswel.
So.. after i did that i stopped getting the conflicts but now when i am playing Clash of Clans i keep getting disconnected... often... im licky if i can keep the game going long enough to do 1 attack without getting disco. (thats about 3 minutes if you never played the game)
so i dont know how to fix these disco's.. i am still getting slow overall performance from sites like youtube and even general internet searches at times. it seems like my router is refreshing or something and forcing my Wi-Fi connections to reconnect. If i have my tablet and my phone next to each other they do NOT lose connection at the same time but randomly. this issues makes no sense to me... i have no other ideas.
And before you suggest the "obvious" ive probably already tried it.
Router Linksys wrt160n
Tablet Asus eeepad TF201
Samsung Note 3 (t mobile)
Fresh install of windows (7 days old and problem was present before reset)
all drivers and firmware up to date
phone tablet and pc are all on static IP
NOTHING else is connected to my network or using my internet except my phone and tablet
i have no viruses / malware
my signal strength is EXCELLENT when i get disco and does not diminish during the disco
bump cause i m still having this issue... seems worse then before even. and its only mobile devices on my network or jst wifi connected devices.
what can i do to fix this

Hi,
I have a laptop, TV and iPod touch connected to my router via Wi-Fi, and a desktop via LAN. It's always been completely stable, rock solid. 2 weeks ago I bought a Sony Xperia T to replace the iPod, and since then the router has been freezing up every 15-30 mins, cutting off every device connected to it and not responding to any attempts to log in to it. The lights on the router don't indicate any problem and if I leave it alone it will unfreeze itself within a couple of minutes.
If I turn off the Xperia's Wi-Fi, the network goes back to being completely stable again all day. Turn the Xperia's Wi-Fi on and the router will freeze within 5 minutes and then again every 15-30 mins.
Google search tells me this is actually a fairly common problem with android devices but nobody seems to have any solution. I've upgraded my router's firmware, tried assigning my phone a static IP address, told the router to use g mode only, tried a range of different Wi-Fi channels, none of this had helped.
The problem happened on ICS as well as the recent Jelly Bean update.
Does anyone have any idea what my phone might be doing to screw up my router so much?
Thanks.
Have been using Samsung HDMI connection for some time to watch TV from overseas using a VPN connection with no major problems.
In last couple of weeks however have had a lot of picture freezing. Ran Speedtest and was getting results of under .5Mb so initially assumed a bad ADSL signal or connection or WiFi problem. Tried playing with my VPN connection but no improvement. Then noticed that just using Tablet screen problem seemed to disappear and was showing download speed of in excess of 3Mb. Because I have been playing about so much using different combinations to analyse the problem have also noticed that sometimes when I plug in HDMI Adapter I also loose my WiFi connection and it says my modem is Out of Range but it finds it again after 1 or 2 scans.
Anyone got any ideas what is causing the problem?????? Even more important how to resolve it.
Rooted Galaxy S3 SGH-I747M on stock ROM
My Galaxy S3 usually has no troubles with wifi; I can stream 720p mkv's over wifi wihtout issue; I can copy large files over SAMBA at 2mB/s, I can watch youtube and netflix, and I never get a single disconnect.
But for some reason, playing SG: Deadzone causes a wifi disconnect every 5 seconds. I keep getting the message "Connected to Wi-Fi network MOEBURN" every few seconds while playing the game, and the game itself keeps lagging in and out, and my router gets flooded with these messages:
Code:
Oct 23 21:06:24 Gargoyle hostapd: wlan0: STA 34:**:**:**:**:15 IEEE 802.11: disconnected due to excessive missing ACKs
It doesn't happen right away. I can join the game, and kill a few people, without ever seeing a single disconnect message on the router's syslog. But after a minute or two, the router starts getting flooded with these messages every few seconds.
SG: Deadzone is the ONLY game/app that has this problem. I would really like to be able to play the game, but I seem to be the only one having this problem with this game!
I have tried disabling "Wifi power saving mode" on the Galaxy S3, and I have tried disabling all running daemons on the router, as well as rebooting both.
I need your help understanding whether this is a problem with the game's code, or with my phone, or with my router (a WNDR3700v2 running Gargoyle/OpenWRT). Thanks for any help!
Hi. Yesterday I got my new Z3, and since then, I've had nothing but WiFi trouble.
My basic home setup:
Linksys EA4500
1 Mediapc with Plex installed
1 Sonos speaker
1 Chromecast connected to my TV
3 pads (samsung, sony tablet z)
Several android phones
Until yesterday (and exept with my Tablet Z - more on that later) my network works as supposed. All units can talk to each other, and most important, my phones and tablet can ALWAYS find and use my Sonos, Chromcast and Plex server. I have a Nexus 5, SGS3, SGS4 and more, and all are connected. Always. Without hickups.
Not so with the Z3. Althoug it says I'm connected - and I can indeed reach outside websites like cnn.com etc.. more often than not the in-house resources are unavailable. Early on I remembered that my Tablet Z had a similar issue, but turning off the Stamina modus on that one always solved the issue. Again, not so with my new Z3. No matter how many functions I turn off - starting with Stamina mode - I'm unable to reach my Plex server, find the Sonos or Chromecast devices. Also, restarting the device or the router don't seem to help either. Even more frustrating, suddenly the phone will find the resources, only to have them drop out again two minutes later... even if the screen was on all the time (did not go into stand-by).
I've turned off all the functions that was part of the reason I bought the phone...
I've changed the router setup to have mixed modes and all other tips I've found on the forums...
I've tried setting a static IP-adress for the phone on the router, and although it lists the phone, still no luck...
(beside the fact that all other devices still connect and work as expected)
I'm extremely frustrated. This is a premium device with a premium pricetag, and I cannot trust it to even connect and use my own WiFi setup.
So in short - please advice.

maybe the no. of devices connected to your router is limited? try removing some devices from your server and try it..
Settings > WiFi > Menu > Advanced > Uncheck "WiFi Optimisation"
See if this makes a difference as it disables all power saving features related to the wifi chip.
Mine was useless. But swapped router and seems fine now.
Try a factory reset on the router, clears all data but leaves original passwords and stuff, if you've not messed with the router, then it's a simple fix.
If you have messed with the router then it might be a setting you tweaked. So a reset may help.
Either way, worth a shot
This problem happened spontaneously with all the android devices in our house. Router had been set up for a month with great performance and then the day before yesterday things just got crappy on our wifi.
Here's the problem:
There's a significant lag between trying to get data (refresh Facebook app, load a Youtube video, go to a web page in Chrome, whatever) and actually getting the data. This occurs on two Nexus 5 phones running Lollipop and a tablet running Kit Kat. Sometimes it'll be 10 to almost 30 seconds between trying to view, for instance a youtube link, and the video description and video actually starts to load. Sometimes I'll get a network timeout. A laptop running Arch Linux on the same network has no such lag.
Here's the weird thing. When I do a speedtest with the Ookla app, it will take a VERY long time to "find the best server" (it's been a minute so far while I've been writing this post just sitting at that screen) but once it does I'll get really excellent speeds. Basically maxing out the possibility of my home internet connection (40Mbps+). Same with upload (13Mbps). Ping to server was 10ms. When I use a terminal emulator to ping a site like google or facebook it will ping with typical wifi reaction rates, usually under 25ms consistently.
Wifi reception on the 2.4Ghz band is great. throughout the house. Different wifi channels do nothing. Note, my wi-fi signal is not dropping, so it's not that issue that's often reported. Reception is great, there's just major lag between trying to get data, and actually connecting.
And again this isn't just one device, this is three separate devices running two different flavors of android. So I'm guessing my router one day decided it didn't like android. Because like I said, things were great until literally just Thursday, with no change in settings on any devices or the router from us.
Yes, I've done a power cycle on the router, which is a Netgear C3700
Any ideas on what might be happening?
It's possible there is an IP addresses conflict. Do any devices on the network have a static IP?
No IP conflicts that I can see ever have been the issue.
If I reboot the router the problem goes away for a couple hours, but then I get the WiFi lag soon enough. I've seen a lot of reports about lag on WiFi (with bad ping results) on some other google searches I've run, but they all point to problems with IPV6, which my router doesn't support at all, so there's nothing for me to turn off there. I can't find any IPV6 settings for anything anywhere on the phone itself.
I don't see any other problems with my router and android devices specifically mentioned anywhere.
Are your android devices using different DNS servers than that of your laptop?
I have never specifically set up any DNS settings on any device in the house. Not even sure how to see what the settings for that are on the Android devices.
I'll try using a static DNS settings from the router instead of the "let my ISP choose" as I have been having problems possibly related to DNS issues on a wired laptop machine (running Linux as well).

Try Google DNS or something
I'm fairly convinced it's not a DNS issue. If it was, rebooting the router would have absolutely no effect at all. But a reboot of the router (unplug and re-plug, a software initiated reboot doesn't seem to work) makes the net fly at great speeds and pings on all devices. For a while. Then it goes bad.
I'm testing a 3rd party app to change the DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 (google) on one android device to see if that one behaves differently. Setting the router to custom DNS settings caused me to get locked out of all internet completely. I couldn't even get into the router software from a wired computer to see the settings anymore. It was like the router didn't exist anymore.

Try setting static IP's for the Mac adresses of the phones in the router and on the phone. Make sure it's outside of DHCP lease boundry of your modem. Sounds like conflicting IPs as already mentioned.
The responders have good intentions but really don't understand the problem entirely. I've faced similar issues.
To quickly dumb down the problem:
Wifi stays connected, but all packets are lost for 10-60 seconds or until wifi is toggled off then on again.
We'll call this Wifi-Connected-No-Connection (WCNC) for the purposes of this thread for easier reading.
Here are my findings...
It may be related to this issue on the google code discussions, there are mentions of complete drop out while remaining connected: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=64706
This has affected both N4 and N5 devices since Jelly Bean. The issue persists in Kitkat but I haven't followed to see if it's entirely been resolved in Lollipop as I refuse to upgrade until certain other issues are worked out with L. If you're good at searching you'll find posts about this drop out issue from a decent time ago.
AP isolation doesn't help.
Modifying most other settings for the router did not help.
What DID help though, is turning the router from N/G mode to B/G mode. I had no WCNC issues with that. Of course, that meant slower speeds, significantly slower speeds. Back on N/G, I find this problem happens pretty frequently.
Packet loss happens at the connection level. Pinging the router means some or all packets are dropped. This is NOT a dns issue.

This makes a lot of sense. Wonder why this would happen with one router set to b/g/n and not another set to b/g/n (the a/n settings are only for the 5Ghz band)...
