I have a very strange problem on my Nexus 5.
Some times when i receive an incoming call, i hear the ringtone, the device vibrates but i dont see anything on my display. Just a black screen, Also pressing the power button, i see the lock screen, unlocking the phone will not show the call either. if i select the dialer application i get the screen in the dialer with 3 options:
1) use touch tone keypad
2)return to call in process
3)add call
By pressing "return to call in process" nothing happens.
The problem is gone after restarting the device.
I read somewhere that this may be a proximity sensor problem due to screen protectors. I removed mine, and it continued having the problem.
Is there anything i can do to fix it [reseting the phone will be the last resort].
Thanks
I encountered this problem too, and now a new problem is my phone dead, cant turn it on.
any advice?

Can you get into bootloader so you can flash the factory image? Did you press the power button for about 10-15 seconds to force boot first.
Mine boots up as supposed to. Today i didn't have the incident.
Is this not a common problem?

Are you running stock or a custom ROM and if so what rom. Also if you could pull a logcat it could be easier to diagnose.
P.S. have you tried clearing data for the dialer app.
i am suffering from this issu haswell.
After a week of no incidents today i had the same problem again.
I am running vanilla android 4.2.2 by Google. No root no custom rom...

How can i have the logcat?
Also clearing dialer data will impact my call log history?

If you are worried about losing your call logs, they can be backed up a ton of different ways. When I don't have root, I use this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.CallLogBackupRestore&hl=en
Very lightweight and easy to use.

Thanks for the tip!
I was talking to my brother today (he is a Nexus 4 owner) and he told me that after updating from 4.3 to 4.4 he had the same problem. He could only solve it by restarting his device. So i guess, this is a dialer bug. Clearing dialer data i dont think will help..
@op do you got Truecaller installed or any other app like that?

mate i also faced this issue. So i tried uninstalling Truecaller and it worked for me.No more black screen.
Thanks for the suggestion but no application like this is installed on my device.
Maybe i will go throughout my apps once again..
My brother's N4 running 4.3 never had a problem. As soon as it updated to 4.4 he is having the problem.. Rarely but the problem is still there.

This problem is getting on my nerves!!
I hope 4.4.3 solves a lot of bugs of N5! Its a shame that an excellent device like this causes such problems.
Also another problem my friends are reporting, is that, they call me, it rings 3 times and then it hangs like if the device is powered off or i canceled the call. And i dont even hear it ring, or find an answered call.
Is there a chance all these problems to be linked on my provider?

I started thinking that maybe its caused by a 3rd-party application, but it seems that other Nexus 5 owners experiencing the same problem as well..
After some thinking i used factory reset on my device yesterday evening just to rule out the possibility below:
As soon as i have purchased the device Google Now wasn't available. So i read in a forum that in order to fix this you have to somehow trick the device that you are situated in a country where Google Now is available. So i downloaded an app (GPS fixing??) and positioned my device to UK, remove something and then install it again(Google services). That fixed the problem and Google Now was available.
Maybe something went wrong there and i was experiencing these problems..
So far so good. Then again to be sure if that was the problem i have to give it at least 2 weeks.
I will get back to you for the results.

in case you have uninstalled "Ignore No More" app and you are still seeing it on your phone screen right under time. go to settings and app, make sure "Ignore No More" app is not running. in case it is running. tap/click it, then force stop, then clear cache, clear data and uninstall it from there.
in case app is not there and is uninstalled and still you are seeing it could be it's shortcut or some other issue. maybe there are other way to completely remove it or it's leftovers from phone.
it also can be done by factory resetting. all apps, numbers etc will be removed from phone by doing this.
that's all i understood and shared.
but do not follow any of my instructions until you understand what you are doing.

Can u tell the purpose that app. Did u search it in app setting, was it installed? In case no, then try this. reinstall it, go to app setting again. Clear cache, data and uninstall it. Hope it work for u.
Just an advice, before factory resetting try searching internet for how to uninstall that app. I'm not sure about the app, so i couldn't find much info and shared simple method regarding uninstalling.

Hi...
I finally got the phone 3 days ago, but noticed that when i get incoming calls i can't use the phone untill the call ends or untill i answer it, what stopping me from playing / writing messages of even use Facebook app untill: 1. I answer the call. 2. I ignore the call, and wait for the other person to hang up.
I had other phones that i could just press the "Home" button and continue with my things.
Is there any solution for that?

I can't find the dialer in playstore, i downloaded from apkmirror and i can't install to my phone. Maybe can y help me?
Ahh yeah you need a specific one. This works well
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/themes/app-root-google-dialer-10-1-161735957-t3636608
grab version 17 or newer
Great thanks
But the problem is that i think i have to root the phone, because even after installing the latest version and allowing permissions to the Dialer app i still get the calls from the default HTC original dialer.. Im using the last version (17)

you need to go into app settings and make google dialer the default phone app
Iv'e put the dialer as default everywhere also in the app category, it still only shows the calling icon on top of the screen, also won't show any contacts names when incoming calls..
Did you got this to work in your phone perfectly?
Aren't there any other apps that can be used instead?

Yes it works perfectly.
Set as default, enable all permissions for it and it will work fine. Plenty of us are using it without any issue. What do you mean by "only shows calling icon on top of the screen". That sounds like the google dialer which is what it is supposed to do and not take up the entire screen.
I don't know, it just wont work properly on my device, i did all what you said above and restarted the device and still.. i only get the icon on the notification bar at the top of the screen when call enters.
I gave up and downloaded "Drupe" - wonderfull app really does the job well and also looks great (cost me about 4$ - worth it), better than the default HTC's app.
Thanks for the help!
You have to go into setting>application>Phone>application>Phone application, select the app you installed, then you may see the different calling screen when you call someone / receive a call. (not a football fan so installed normal v17)
I am new to the OnePlus 8 on T-Mobile and I am having an issue where when on an active call the phone app completely disappears. Sometime i can find it again in the notification area and other times I cant find the active call at all. This makes it very difficult to switch to speakerphone or even hang up the call. Does anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it? I have never had this happen on an android phone before .
Thanks!
Are you using apps for notification LED ? like NotifyBuddy or similar ? i use this app and the phone goes all black and found it difficult sometimes.
Isnt the Phone app visible in Recent Apps list ?
for the time being unless someone really helps you solve the problem, you can enable Power Button Ends the call option from Accessibility settings to end Call easily with Power Button.
I am not using any LED apps. The suggestion about the accessibility option to end the call is a good one until I figure more out. Thanks for that tip!

I had the same problem. After talking to OnePlus technical service they recommended me to do a factory reset from the recovery menu. I did it and never had the problem again.
Hope it helps you.

Yes. Before the reset, I made a backup of the phone (the one that appears in the settings) that is stored in your Google Drive to be able to restore it later.

Great. I will give that a try. Thank you!
FYI - That reset seemed to fix my issue as well. Must have been a carryover from my old phone causing the issue. Thank you for the tip again!
Hello all,
Since the android 12 update that I haven't been able to answer calls using the main screen. I need to unlock my phone, swipe up to go the home screen and answering it on the status notification button.
I've tried clearing cache and data from the app and even the cache from the phone (In recovery). Haven't wipe data yet but would like to have this has a last resort.
Anyone has experienced this and knows how to solve it?
On another note does anyone use "Mobile data always on" on the dev options? I do but since the update to Android 12 that, although it does function the mobile data sign from the status bar is not there. Anyone with the same issue? Is it a bug or intended?
Thanks to all.
also with A12 but no such issue. try maybe to change call display to mini popup in Phone/Settings

Yeah popup works normally. Just can't answer when the call comes in full screen.
