How to stop incoming calls from preventing you to use the phone? - HTC U11+ Questions & Answers

Hi...
I finally got the phone 3 days ago, but noticed that when i get incoming calls i can't use the phone untill the call ends or untill i answer it, what stopping me from playing / writing messages of even use Facebook app untill: 1. I answer the call. 2. I ignore the call, and wait for the other person to hang up.
I had other phones that i could just press the "Home" button and continue with my things.
Is there any solution for that?

I can't find the dialer in playstore, i downloaded from apkmirror and i can't install to my phone. Maybe can y help me?

Ahh yeah you need a specific one. This works well
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/themes/app-root-google-dialer-10-1-161735957-t3636608
grab version 17 or newer

Great thanks
But the problem is that i think i have to root the phone, because even after installing the latest version and allowing permissions to the Dialer app i still get the calls from the default HTC original dialer.. Im using the last version (17)

you need to go into app settings and make google dialer the default phone app

Iv'e put the dialer as default everywhere also in the app category, it still only shows the calling icon on top of the screen, also won't show any contacts names when incoming calls..
Did you got this to work in your phone perfectly?
Aren't there any other apps that can be used instead?

Yes it works perfectly.
Set as default, enable all permissions for it and it will work fine. Plenty of us are using it without any issue. What do you mean by "only shows calling icon on top of the screen". That sounds like the google dialer which is what it is supposed to do and not take up the entire screen.

I don't know, it just wont work properly on my device, i did all what you said above and restarted the device and still.. i only get the icon on the notification bar at the top of the screen when call enters.
I gave up and downloaded "Drupe" - wonderfull app really does the job well and also looks great (cost me about 4$ - worth it), better than the default HTC's app.
Thanks for the help!

You have to go into setting>application>Phone>application>Phone application, select the app you installed, then you may see the different calling screen when you call someone / receive a call. (not a football fan so installed normal v17)

[Q] 3 Questions if anyone knows the answer I would really appreatiate it

My 3 question/issues are:
Let me start with the one i find most important and is a issue for me:
1. When I got the phone and set it up I got 1 tone when a MMS/SMS was send from my phone, a second when I got the response that my MMS/SMS was recieved on the other end and then my own personal sound when I recieved a MMS/SMS my self, But out of the blue the phone now will not give another sound when a MMS/SMS is recieved on the other end I get instead the same sound as IF I GOT A MMS/SMS which is annoying and confusing. Is there a reason why the phone stated doing this and why I can't get it to stop? I really use this feature alot because it is important to know if my message has been recieved at the other end as this is my work phone.
These next 2 are more so I can use my phone better and quirus i can survive not getting a answer here:
2. Player what would you surgest to get as a player since the onboard player lags alot in codecs to see movies?
3. HTC Reader APP the onboard HTC Reader APP which takes all my eBooks and does it well where can I see if there is a Update and then Update it? I have been told by a friend the version I have is not the newest and there is a never which supports more formats in reading and has more options. If thats true I would love to get it but as i said I can't find anything about it not even on HTC own homepage.
1. Switch on delivery report notification in messaging.
2. Try PowerAmp.
3. Why update if its working well? If your friend claims he has a newer version, then get him/her to rip out the .apk and give it to you.
Hope that helps.
1 start the HTC stock messenger app. Then hit menu > settings > notifications. You cane then set different notification sounds for received notification and sent notification. AFAIK the sound when you receive a text is your default notification sound, which can be set from your home screen settings > sound
2 I use Mixzing and find it good.
3 I think that built in apps are automatically updated when one is available in the market - it certainly happened with built in Google maps and YouTube apps on mine. The version I have got for the reader is 2.2.125597

1. Already done thats why I wonder how it stopped giving a different sound than normal and now gives the same as when I recieve a SMS/MMS.
2. OK will try.
3. I will talk to my friend about ripping it, and I would always update if it brings new features, the ability to read more formats and even if it improve on what I have.

1: Ok I tried but I was only allowed to set a sound when I recieve a MMS/SMS and a sound when I send it. But I can't find anything for the delivery report to change that sound.
Here is what I have tried: Changing the sound via SMS/MMS place and make the sound for recieving the one it should give when I have a report on the reciever got the SMS/MMS and then via the palet change that to i want this sound when I get a SMS/MMS. That didn't do the trick, I have tried the other way around didn't do the trick.
I have even tried having change the sound I can change in the home screen settings where I have 2 options nothing.
And I do not understand why it do this all of the suddent as it worked before.
2. Ok I will look into that one.
3. Same version I have but the difference between google maps and youtube is they update VIA the Market and can be found there the build in HTC Reader is not found anywhere, nothing on the Market nothing on HTC HUB or HTC Likes, nothing on HTC homepage or support hence why I wonder.

[Q] Screen Turns off on Vonage Mobile App

Hi,
I use At&T Atrix 2.3.6 with Rooted. When I use Vonage mobile app, after I dialed number, screen turn off (same behavior as normal calls) but problem is it never turns on until Call get disconnected. When I press Powerbutton all I see in bank screen (on Normal call this gives back screen, so we can choose dialpad or speaked). If I repress again phone get locked. Home button gives me home screen but i couldn't find a way to get the dialpad on vonage call screen. This causes almost ununsable vonage for customer care call.
I already contacted the Vonage app developer and suggested method is reinstall and restart which isn't working.
Is anybody else use Vongae successfully without this issue on Atrix-2? Any suggestions?
Thanks as always.

Hi Nambi,
My name is Tzahi Efrati and I'm from VonageApps, Vonage's mobile development center.
We had an issue with the proximity sensor several versions ago. However, we couldn't recreate it using any of our devices today.
Can you please make sure you're using the latest version (1.5.1)?
Thanks,
Tzahi
Hi,
Thank you for your reply. Its indeed 1.51 version I am using. My friend who uses HTC One V where its working fine. In Atrix2, we have default option of screen goes blank when initiate call and same happens in Vonga app, but pressing power screen won't get the screen as native Dialer does.. I tried deactivate --> uninstall --> Restart --Install already which also not helping.
Let me know if you need any more information....
Any body else using Vonage app in A2, please comment..
check your build.prop. there is some stuff there about the proximity sensor. you can try tweaking the values. I just saw a post on which they are in one of the rom threads in the dev section (romulus I think). check that out.
What rom are you on anyways?

Yep, I also stumbled across same info on Romulus Rom thread and verified my build.prop which is same as stock.
I am on Stock 2.3.6 , Rooted though. I also installed the Bootstrapper to flash 1% Mod done by alteredlikeness.

that shouldn't affect it, it is probably just a glitch with our device.

I am having the exact same problem - Atrix 2, latest stock rom (2.3.6), the screen goes blank the second I hit the call button and does not come back on until the call gets disconnected.

I have a similar issue on my Samsung Note 3 when I use placing the call using WiFi/3G/4G setting. I have to restart the phone to disconnect from the call. The phone goes complete blank after I place the call using Vonage extensions app. I am very much frustrated as I travel a lot and thought this app would allow me to be in touch with others. Any help will be appreciated.

Dialer and Contacts Inconsistancy

So i havn't seen anyone else complaining about this yet but it must drive someone insane or im just way too OCD.
As seen below, when you open the dialer you are presented with Keypad/Recent/Favorites/Contacts, in that order.
When you press on Contacts, Recent is replaced by Groups (i dont like it but ok-whatever), my biggest issue is that Favorites and Contacts swap places, to me this is just insane.
As a side note, for me going from dialer to contacts takes a long time to load, i'd say about 1.5 seconds, i do have a few hundred contacts but this is also the first time ive had this issue.
Thoughts or ideas?
lol, mine never changes.
Hmm, I never noticed until you pointed that out...
It is strange that favorites and contacts swap spots. I never really noticed, because I have a contacts link on one of my home screens and when I am in the dialer I dont bother going in to contacts, I just start typing the name I want.
Strange, but not a problem for me...
I just tried going into my contacts from the dialer and it did seem to pause for a second (I have 474 contacts), but I never really notice a pause going into contacts from the home screen directly.
I actually spent a couple hours the other day weeding out my contacts on Google (via GMal). Contacts I speak to frequently are starred. Anyone else I either start typing their name or directly reply to a text or such. I went to my contacts a few different times since reading this and nothing changed.
Mine changes, just like the OP. I hate it, especially since on Froyo I had a much cleaner dialer. What I miss the most is the ability to have the dialer stay on the screen when I make calls, meaning having the option before to have it show automatic in a call, vs having to open the dialer when actually in a phone call. I have searched everywhere I can find for the option to have the dialer always open when in a call, but cat find that option. Does anyone know how to make the dialer show for every phone call, without having to select it once the call has been started. ? Thanks in advance.

[Q] Odd classic voice dialer intermittently when using wired headset

Folks,
Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated.
Running stock 4.4.2, rooted, Franco Kernel, w/ Xposed ( GravityBox ) and Tasker
Has anyone else had problems with a single button wired headset intermittently launching a classic looking voice dialer versus the new voice search stuff when using the headset's button?
I basically have a Tasker profile that unlocks and wakes my phone after I plug in my headset. This all works fine.
Problem is, when trying to actually use the headset to call someone, this classic looking (and I say that because it's a black background with white text, nothing fancy) voice dialer comes up but no matter what, can not make out what I am asking it to do.
If I hit the back button and try the headset button again, it will then sometimes go to the new voice search and work completely as expected. Not every time. Sometimes the classic dialer wants to hang around for 2 or 3 attempts.
Anyone seen this before? I was hoping to find a way to just disable this 'classic' voice dialer because I'm essentially trying to have my phone be more hands free if the headset is plugged in and know the new voice search works just fine.
Thanks,

Could you try starting your device in safe mode and not running any apps you've installed to test if one of them is causing the problem? If you don't experience the problem while in safe mode that's a good indication that an app you've installed is the source of your issue.
I'd appreciate it if you could let me know how your safe mode test went after you get a chance to give it a try.

Joannn,
Thanks for the thoughts.
I tested safe mode and the classic voice dialer does not come up at all so it definitely has to be some sort of app or weird way my system is calling something when using the headset in normal mode.
I tried the following with no success in normal mode:
1) Disabled Xposed and all modules - rebooted - no change
2) Disabled tasker and tested with just plugging in the headset and testing the button - no change
3) Switched from Nova launcher back to stock launcher - no change
4) Uninstalled a headset button control app - no change
So, I'm not sure why the phone randomly thinks this old dialer is the correct one to launch, nor do I have any idea where it is coming from. It doesn't appear to be a separate app and even when I look through the system apks, I see nothing that looks like it references this classic voice dialer. Not sure what's triggering it.

I've got to assume it's something related to Tasker or the Secure Settings plugin for it. I uninstalled every single app I could think of that may have had the ability to make any calls of any nature, and in Settings>Apps I don't see the Voice Dialler at all, even before I started uninstalling things.
Without Tasker being used, I haven't seen the bad dialer come back again.
Was really only using tasker to get around the fact that the headset button is ignored if the phone is pin locked. Guess I'll try and find another way around it.
Thanks for your help,
bambam2k3
Okay, I'm going to take that back.
It's got to be stock somehow. I read some other posts and a quick google image search shows other people with the same dialer, especially when using bluetooth headsets from the lockscreen. I've pretty much removed everything from my phone aside from the stock apps. In the varying posts I've seen, the spelling is incorrect in 50% of them, and I don't know maybe if that has something to do with the language settings of the phone.
I also tested a bluetooth headset that had never been paired with my phone before and when the phone is locked, I get the odd dialer, when it's unlocked, I get the proper google voice search.
My next step would be to completely wipe and reinstall. But, I think I'm going to keep trying to figure this out before going to that length.

the spelling incorrect is not google. and if it was google, it would be spelled incorrect for all, not 50% of the people. the next question is do you have a mod for your lockscreen? whatever it is, it is not googles app that you screenshoted. and you wrote that in safemode, it didnt appear. which also indicates that its a 3rd party app.

Simms,
Figured out the 'spelling mistake'. Since I'm Canadian, I was running my phone in English (UK) versus English (US). When I changed it back to English (US), now Dialer is spelled correctly.
As for lockscreen mods, I do have GravityBox running with some Lockscreen tweaks, but in my previous testing, I totally shutdown Xposed. That's all I've got. Had the same problem with it totally disabled.
Just came across this post on Android Police with a lot of comments with the exact same problem I'm having. Seems even with using Tasker and Secure Settings to disable Pin lock, turn off keyguard, wake the device and take it to the homescreen, the phone still thinks the screen is 'off' and brings up the old dialer.

so it seams then that you either need to update your google search or you are using a samsung device and not a nexus 5.

Incoming call notification

When I receive a phone call, the phone displays either 1 or 2 options.
Option 1: Regular notification where i can drag the phone icon to answer or decline, which is easy.
Option 2: It displays like the screenshot below. Nothing happens when I tap on the DISMISS or ANSWER. The only way to take a call is to slide the notification left or right to dismiss it, then pull down the notification center and click there. It is far too much work.
My LG G3 does not have that problem. Is it a bug? Does anyone have this problem. and how do I fix or avoid this?
Thanks.
UPDATE: I just tried reboot it, and it worked. Now I can touch DISMISS/ANSWER. Not sure if it will acting up again.
I never saw that. But I switched to a different launcher within an hour of getting the phone and may never have received a call during that time.

Yeah I get that one one too sometimes and not sure why. Usually I screw it up and ditch the caller on accident when I get this notification bar for an incoming call. I hate it!
How did you enable that incoming call banner?
I always get option 1
Are you using the default phone app or hangouts

And I don't think this has anything to do with launcher as I just changed to NOVA but problem still persists.
