Galaxy S8+ G955F Exynos battery drain on stock oreo firmware (XXU1CRAP) ? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Does anyone else notice significant battery drain with the official oreo firmware on their 955F ?
With Nougat I could easily get around 7 hours SOT, now it went down to around 4 to max 5 hours of SOT. I am a heavy user (videocalls, normal and bluetooth calls, watch videos, text a lot, etc.).
I have found a thread on another forum of people experiencing the same battery drain click. I just wanted to confirm if people here also noticed it and maybe have a possible solution ?
I flashed Oreo on my S8+ Exynos using this thread. I sideloaded it, although I had to flash the last part (CRAP) with SD card because for some weird reason adb didn't work anymore after flashing the first firmwares (just a heads-up for any of you who want to try to force update their S8/S8+).
Other than the battery drain though I must say the performance is insane, the phone has become an absolute beast (yes, even faster than it runs on Nougat)! But I want my 7 hours of SOT back..
PS. Samsung paused the updates to the "CRAP" oreo update for now, apparantly due to some devices experiencing random reboots (I don't have this problem). So they are only gonna resume the rollout of oreo to the S8/S8+ when they patched this. Maybe this patch will also resolve the battery drain.

I agree the battery life has decreased. I am typically below 40% at bedtime compared to above 50% with Nougat. Could be this is the price for improved performance

Its been a day, give it chance! A phone will use more for the first few cycles after a major update.

I've been running it for 4 days now, didn't really see any improvement yet. After some research it seems S8 users experience the same problem, I found similar threads over there from battery drain with the "CRAP" update.
Guess for now we just have to be patient until the next patch comes out.

Yes. I have the same problem. Used to get plus 6 hours sot. Now getting a little ut above 4.

Same problem and very unhappy about it.
3 hours SOT is about the max. I get when it used to be 5-6.
Has anyone factory reset the device and does that help?

Same problem here max 5 hours SOT what a shame ...
Also there is a huge issue with video recording if you noticed guys specially on 60fps . There is a frame drop while recording and while playing the video

Thank you for the feedback.
This must be a joke from Samsung, very disappointing and has me lose interest in the Samsung brand big time.
While the hardware is really nice, the software is mediocre. Slow updates and now this disaster with Oreo. After 4 months of testing this is nothing short of embarrassing.
Don't even get me started about the Samsung Experience vs. stock Android. Using my 2015 Nexus 5x is a pleasure in comparison. And as of lately with Oreo they are almost on par in terms of battery duration.

Could it be possible that the mix of usage patterns vary and consequently this leads to variations in screen on time.
I have been on OREO ON S8+ since February 9th, I haven't noticed a significant change to maximum screen on time.
Screen on time today just over 9 hours

Exynos or snapdragon?
Im struggling getting 4h SOT.. with Nougat that was easily 6+h

I also have a higher drain with Oreo. But the simplest thing to test is flight mode. I use flight mode for night (about 7 hours) and now I loose 12% every night in flight mode with a Deep sleep of 99%!!!
Gsam or such Utilities shoes nothing, Deep sleep is 99%, doze mode 98% of time and 12% battery drain (around 1.6%/h)???
With data enabled it's not really much more, no idea what's causing this...

yes XXU1CRAP
I didn't use Odin to flash.
I downloaded z×××5 beta to sd
then flashed via standard recovery.
Then repeated with beta to crap update.
Cleared cache in recovery.
didn't factory reset

I think the new firmware update will fix this battery drain issue

Anyone who can confirm the increased consumption in flight mode (about 1.5% per hour), was about 0.2 to 0.5% per hour with nougat...
Gesendet von meinem ZTE A2017G mit Tapatalk

I can confirm that.
Before the Oreo update I lost around 3-4% of charge over night, now it´s at almost 20% without anything obvious draining the battery. The phone is in deepsleep all the time...
Samsung knows how to ruin their devices with firmware updates.

KITKAT Update

Hey guys,
I wanted to share my experience with my note 3( from India )
Its amazing phone. After using for about a month, Note 2 seems bulky and FAT
Note 3 looks stylish
Now about Kitkat update. I got it yesterday it was OTA update.
The battery backup has gone amazingly wild.
It used 50% battery overnight with wifi on, BUT now it spends on 20% WOOooooowwwwwww!
And in my normal usage battery went to about 15% till the evening, when after the update it is still about 60% left
I love the KITKAT, Overall Speed seems to have doubled in response.
Apps open in almost half the time.
Thats it.

Android OS causing extreme battery leak in marshmallow?

Right after I installed marshmallow I wanted to test the battery leak so I left my phone away with just wifi on to see a drop from 67% to 46%!! I made this thread to ask if there's anyone with the same problem and if so guide me to some sort of fix for this

android os is always another app which keeps your phone awake, so you could try uninstalling apps until the drain stops
Yepp I have it too. Sprint Galaxy S6 6.0.1... Android OS stay awake= 1hr 15min and using 20% of my battery!
Using MM 3.0 Rc1 XtreStoLite rom. Works awesome with hacker kernel 13.2. ???
For those having battery drain while wifi on.. I suggest-
Wifi Settings>more>keep wifi on during sleep>only while charging/never...
Hope this fixes the problem..

Surely it works, but it shouldn't be an appropiate solution for those as me have this problem. Before MM none had to change this setting to avoid this issue.
I noted after first days from MM XEF and PHE firm the battery consumption was very good, but after some days (or maybe any app setting change) this issue appeared.

Very disappointed
I completed the update over the weekend to MM and so far I'm very disappointed. Before the update I consistently getting 35-40 hours of battery time, now I'm lucky to get 18-20. I haven't changed my usage or download any new apps so...
OK so a quick update, after a few days now I've been disabling Wi-Fi (which I didn't have to with lollipop), and that has improved battery life.
I'm still concerned that Wi-Fi is the top battery consumer even when disabled for most of the day.
I guess you disabled the always Wi-Fi scanning feature, hidden somewhere I could not find in the beginning myself.
That setting is now listed under the location settings for some stupid reason. Also my Wi-Fi has been crap lately on marshmallow. It drops out at random times.

I'm not even on the latest firmware update yet still on 33.2.A.2.73 and getting pretty good battery life. Only charging it once a day at night as normal. Never used Stamina mode yet either and brightness is always at 50%. Always 4-5+hrs screen time depending on what I'm doing and where I am. I was getting exactly the same on the firmware that was on it out of the box. I upgraded from the m2 to the xa and have absolutely no regrets at all. Just make sure if you want to root it that it MUST have a unlockable Bootloader so don't buy a network locked one as they are usually not unlockable.
Even GSM arena(pretty sure it was them) have changed there review of the battery life performance to reflect the updated firmware fixes.

With latest 3.74 update noticed a huge improvement of battery life. Can now last 2 days + (without stamina) as originally intended by Sony whereas previously scarcely
made the day. This morning I have 70% juice after one days average use and a night on standby. Also noticed an increase in internal storage: System data only take up 4105 Mb.

So, basically, everyone is saying and agreed that the battery drain problem is finally gone after so many updates? Now, to make a concrete decision before purchasing, I've created an opinion poll to get the real result from the actual users (especially for F3116). Please vote & do that honestly as per your experience.

Status of the Pixel XL Battery Shutdown Bug

It is not a major Pixel issue. It is a minor Android 7 issue. It is happening at low levels to a few phones. I don't even recall seeing anyone in these pixel forums about it.
I have this issue, on the regular (non-XL) Pixel. I first noticed it between Christmas and NYE, the device shut down at around 20% battery. It's now happening almost every time the battery drops below 25%, albeit at slightly different capacities each time (between 18-25%). This morning I used the "chat" option to discuss with Support, without noticing the new security patch released this morning. So now I'm running my battery down and waiting to recreate the issue. Support played dumb and said they hadn't heard of the issue.

Did the security patch help? I had the same issue on my 5" Pixel (around 10% though) and did a factory reset (with only the most necessary apps installed), since then the problem is gone. BUT i also received the January security patch on the same day, so i don't really know what fixed it.
What i also recognized on my screenshots and my others that were posted on this matter, is the wrong Awake/"Aktiv" indicator before the shutdown happened (see the attached screenshot). IMO, this may point to a software issue, not an actual faulty battery or cool temperatures.

Nothing new that i know of, i didn't run into this problem since the factory reset. Maybe, in some cases, it's a hardware issue after all? Does your awake-log look faulty as well?

Yes, exactly the same as you described, even with the false activity line as shown on your picture. Does this work now too after your factory reset?

Yes, it happened after new years, when the device was just about a week old and did not occur since then. This is from yesterday (regular Pixel), while i never crack the 5h mark with mixed usage: https://goo.gl/photos/Yui6D3sdSK8gyFax9
These are from when the first or second early shutdown occured: http://imgur.com/a/4g0V5
I find it a bit weird that this is not a bigger topic on XDA, there are a "lot" of posts in the issue tracker, the pixel user community and even a some on reddit from time to time.

Okay, I'm not 100 % sure but I think this happened first time after the February update. Looks like I should do a factory reset. Let's see if this works for me as well.
Will report, thanks.
