Android OS causing extreme battery leak in marshmallow? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Right after I installed marshmallow I wanted to test the battery leak so I left my phone away with just wifi on to see a drop from 67% to 46%!! I made this thread to ask if there's anyone with the same problem and if so guide me to some sort of fix for this

Same problem and hear more users whith Android OS drain on Galaxy S6 on XEF and PHN firmware. Haven't found a solution yet.

I have the same issue :/ the battery drain is enormous when WiFi is on, and it shows that Android OS was staying awake for hours and using Google ridiculous amounts of battery :/
If anyone has a solution please help us..

android os is always another app which keeps your phone awake, so you could try uninstalling apps until the drain stops

Yepp I have it too. Sprint Galaxy S6 6.0.1... Android OS stay awake= 1hr 15min and using 20% of my battery!

Using MM 3.0 Rc1 XtreStoLite rom. Works awesome with hacker kernel 13.2. ???

For those having battery drain while wifi on.. I suggest-
Wifi Settings>more>keep wifi on during sleep>only while charging/never...
Hope this fixes the problem..

in the past wakelock detector was pretty good for this but you need root nowadays, there is a windows version which doesn't require root but isn't as good as the android app. I don't even know if it works on MM

Surely it works, but it shouldn't be an appropiate solution for those as me have this problem. Before MM none had to change this setting to avoid this issue.
I noted after first days from MM XEF and PHE firm the battery consumption was very good, but after some days (or maybe any app setting change) this issue appeared.

I suspect this issue depends on the connected wifi net. I need some more days to check, but I can see as battery consuption graph slope is greater on the period I am on my wifi work than on the hotel wifi where I am standing these days... has anyone experimented this?

There's no such problem with SER firmware.

Greenify with the 'extreme doze' feature works great. No battery drain whatsoever on PHN, unrooted.

Perhaps you should go into your accounts and stop many of the the Google services from syncing. I only have Calendar, Contacts and Gmail on. That might help with battery life.

Why would they do that? The whole point of having a smartphone is having instantaneous access to your info and using these features. This is a known bug affecting many. Supposedly oneplus one will fix this with the next ota update.

Things running constantly so that you can have instantaneous and continuous access will drain battery-operated electronics. That's nothing unique with OPO, other smartphones, or any other electronic device which runs on a battery.

Yes it will drain your battery, but not excessively like the google services bug present in cm11s. Most people don't buy a smartphone to have everything turned off on it. My g3 has all the same things constantly active and battery is a beast on it.

That is a great suggestion for a temporary battery life improvement but hopefully the update coming from oneplus will resolve it permanently. I hope it does, I really like this phone but will switch over to the g3 permanently if it doesn't get fixed.

[Q] "Cells Standby" cause Battery Drain after 5.0.1 update? Gsam picture Included

[Q] "Cells Standby" cause Battery Drain after 5.0.1 update? Gsam picture Included
Battery Drain turns faster after I update N5 to 5.0.1 and ReRooted.
the update used this Method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57621585&postcount=15
Current state:
Rooted
Google Now Enabled
Location Reporting Disabled
GPS Disabled
Screen Light: Auto
Singal Strengh: -65dBm 23asu
And the Gsam screensnap is listed below.
My question is :
1. How to make the battery drains slowly ? when I am in 4.4.4, it is much more better, maybe it is caused by 5.0.0 or 5.0.1 ?
2. Is the battery draining mainly by "Cells Standby" ? I can see it in top of "Battery" of "Settings", but when I use Gsam to analyse, the "Cells Standby" seems all right?
Thanks.
If you hardly use your screen, other things will be the biggest users of battery.

Yes, but when I use the screen more frequently, the "Cell Standby" is still the biggest drainer in "battery" of "setting", which never happend in 4.4.4.
It's probably an app keeping your phone awake. Seems you have almost 17 hours awake, out of almost 20. Try to use an app similar to Better Battery Stats to check what's keeping your phone awake.
It might be Google Play Services.
You can use Disable Service app (you're rooted) and try to untick some Google Services Syncs. See post 2 in Battery Troubleshooting thread of this forum. Other option would be Greenify. Good luck.

My guess is an app that trigger google play service
try with safe mode too see if it's 3rd party apps related

Maybe. But this can't explain why cells standby used the most battery.

I don't know if you noticed before but the issues lies on the exclamation mark on the wifi and cellular icons if you see them frequently.
I had abad battery drain issue before. I solved the problem by luck. I owned a Linksys WAG320 modem before. Someday it become bricked than I bought an Asus N55. Wakelocks gone that day. So I made a test at my office where a bad wifi connectivity exists. At the office there's still wakelocks than I realized that the issue ise bad wifi connectivity.
So you must find yours. I think it would be a bad cellular data (not cellular itself because you have a good cellular connectivity).

It is really little known about this LRA variant of XT1565. Does it have the Verizon bloatware or is it cleaner?

Very disappointed
I completed the update over the weekend to MM and so far I'm very disappointed. Before the update I consistently getting 35-40 hours of battery time, now I'm lucky to get 18-20. I haven't changed my usage or download any new apps so...
OK so a quick update, after a few days now I've been disabling Wi-Fi (which I didn't have to with lollipop), and that has improved battery life.
I'm still concerned that Wi-Fi is the top battery consumer even when disabled for most of the day.
I guess you disabled the always Wi-Fi scanning feature, hidden somewhere I could not find in the beginning myself.
That setting is now listed under the location settings for some stupid reason. Also my Wi-Fi has been crap lately on marshmallow. It drops out at random times.

This afternoon i leaved the tablet in standby with no connection and 80%.At 23 pm the tablet was a little warm and at 28%.In battery history appear a 4.30h of google usage.I think that "ok google" was the problem. Now i disabled it,lets see if something change...

High android system usage

Hi all, after owning my S7 G930FD for about 6 months, i've got huge battery drain caused by android system always in top of my battery stats, draining more than the screen. Yesterday i flashed the latest firmware with a FULL wipe, also formatted my sd card, waited until the second cycle and it's back again,i have no idea what the hell is going on, it also happened when the phone still didnt update or install any app after the firmware installation. I remember having similar problem with the S6 on latest MM builds and Nougat, are they doing this on purpose ? Check my screenshot below i just took it right now, my only guess left now is the sd card,i'm not really sure, please tell if you have similar problem or if possible provide your battery stats so i can compare android system usage, thanks in advance :fingers-crossed:
