Xperia XA Battery draining problem solved after latest .93 update or not? - Sony Xperia XA Questions & Answers

Hello all,
I know there is another thread regarding the battery issue in XA but still opening this thread because after so many days of its launch and despite all these frequent updates, does the high battery draining problem solved yet?
I'm about to purchase this phone but that's the only issue that barring my decision.
So, requesting to the admins n mods not to delete this thread so that we can keep discussing after each n every update and requesting all of the owners of XA n XA dual to please updating n informing us all about the same after each update if you noticed any drastic change in battery life and performance.
Thanks.

I'm not even on the latest firmware update yet still on 33.2.A.2.73 and getting pretty good battery life. Only charging it once a day at night as normal. Never used Stamina mode yet either and brightness is always at 50%. Always 4-5+hrs screen time depending on what I'm doing and where I am. I was getting exactly the same on the firmware that was on it out of the box. I upgraded from the m2 to the xa and have absolutely no regrets at all. Just make sure if you want to root it that it MUST have a unlockable Bootloader so don't buy a network locked one as they are usually not unlockable.
Even GSM arena(pretty sure it was them) have changed there review of the battery life performance to reflect the updated firmware fixes.

I don't know what people are doing I've been getting pretty much the same screen time and battery life on 33.2.A.2.35, 33.2.A.2.73 ain't even got to 33.2.A.2.93 yet, I refuse to accept that they are all defective device's and the mm firmware is by far the smoothest Xperia mm firmware I've used.
Update to the latest firmware and either do a factory reset and or a software repair via Xperia companion then wait a few cycles for it to settle down. Nobody can update firmware then within a two hours go "this is crap it's still not fixed/working properly"

great news
Are you sure these guys are not hired by sony? Lol. This is too good to be true. I might end up buying the xa if this 5 hour lasting battery is solved.

Hi,
As far as I understand the battery issue is related to the scanning function when location service is on. I barely use location/GPS and battery life is quite good.. not awesome but good

Ok... im just worried about all the bad reviews on the xa's battery everywhere i read. And constantly checking on the sony forums/gsmarena where a handful got really horrendous battery makes me a bit uncomfortable.

Go and try one, it's what I had to do there's far to many reviews/reviewers that seem totally Biased or brought to slate most devices if you don't play graphically intensive 3d games it's fine if you're always playing games get a different device with a bigger battery other than that it's fine for everything else. I charge my xa no more than my old m2.

You can have location on no problem mines always on 24/7 on battery saver mode, you have to tap the three dots top right in settings location on mm Bluetooth and WiFi are set to always scan in the background for connections even if you have them turned off in the settings.

Huge improvement with update 33.2.A.3.74
With latest 3.74 update noticed a huge improvement of battery life. Can now last 2 days + (without stamina) as originally intended by Sony whereas previously scarcely
made the day. This morning I have 70% juice after one days average use and a night on standby. Also noticed an increase in internal storage: System data only take up 4105 Mb.

Shame it looks like it's been pulled by sony after problems with the update looking at Sony support forum. Nothing else has been released since
Edit: 26/9 just checked xperiacheck.Com
33.2.A.3.74 updates already released have been removed from the F3111 list.

So, basically, everyone is saying and agreed that the battery drain problem is finally gone after so many updates? Now, to make a concrete decision before purchasing, I've created an opinion poll to get the real result from the actual users (especially for F3116). Please vote & do that honestly as per your experience.

Joseph,
Thank you for offering. That's fine, as I do not plan to root the Xperia X Performance when I buy it this summer either.
I have a similar thread going for the X Performance, and a guy in that thread already verified that it DOES work on the Z5 running Marshmallow! I'd already tried this app before on my Z3 (I now have the S7, but don't want to keep it, so waiting for X Performance to come out this summer so I can switch my S7 for that). It worked perfectly, but it doesn't work on my S7. But the guy in the other thread CONFIRMED it DOES work on the Z5 with Marshmallow too!
I would highly recommend Joseph that you skim through that thread, and then do yourself the favor of buying the full version of 360. You won't regret it. (But understand this app does not seem to work on Samsung phones for whatever reason. Not sure on others. Just know it does for Sony Xperia.)
Let me know if you do, how it goes, how you like it, and if ANY issues arise from having 360 on your phone.

No problem. Just remember to enable EVERYTHING in 360, get the full paid version, leave phone on but screen off (and NOT plugged in) overnight, and take note of what percentage the battery is at RIGHT before you go to bed, as well as first thing in the morning. See that thread for any other questions, and if not listed there, ask me here.
Thanks!!

Ok so on the Full version you had 0-1% battery loss overnight? Let me know please. And also how many hours was that?
If so, GREAT!! Yeah even 1% is a lot. lol You were probably like RIGHT on the border of that 1% when you went to bed.
It's not really called "Doze Mode". That's a Marshmallow thing. It's just the 360 app doin' its thing. lol

I agree. I'm COUNTING THE DAYS until X Perf is released. I hate that it's not 'til like June though. Wish it was May or even April. Don't know why Sony put it off so long? The Z5 came out like last Fall. April would be at least 5-6 months since the Z5's release, so that's when it should be coming out, not Summer. Sony needs to just release ONE phone a year and make it in the Spring cuz Spring is an awesome time to buy a new phone. Weather's getting warmer, women are wearin' less clothes, more fun outdoor stuff starts happening, etc! lol
I see this app is newer and has same UI with the one from you, also it has more downloaded and rated. I see your one didn't work on your S7, have you tried mine ever?

Yeah it's very similar to 360's UI.
What is the message about the CPU lock not working on non-rooted phones though?

Of course you need to root before do something on kernel settings (CPU, GPU, IO,...).

360's CPU Hibernation Lock didn't need a root, so maybe we're thinking about something different?
So I tried the Hibernation Manager app last night on my S7. It unfortunately had no impact at all on the battery life (6 hours of sleep). It went down about 3-4%, which is the same it does without any "power saver" help. I will stop by my parents today and try putting it on their phone (Xperia Z1s). Then tomorrow I'll have them check and see if it did anything and get back to you. Hopefully it works on Sony Xperia phones at least.
Unfortunately, 360 Hibernation Master apparently DOES NOT work on the Xperia X series. I have no idea why. Sucks. Tried on my brand new int'l dual-SIM X Performance, and it didn't seem to do anything.
I tried out a couple other apps that were similar but they didn't seem to work either. So I guess for the time being anyway 360 is only for the Xperia Z series phones. FYI
However, Stamina Mode DOES seem to have been properly fixed, so you can still use that.
Note: Just remember that if you use the Visual Voicemail app that after turning off SM you will need to go into VV's settings and re-enable VV cuz it doesn't seem to do it automatically.

Any root method ?

Tried Kingroot, it didn't work.
By the way, the more people run Kingroot from an Xperia XA, the more they'll try to find a root strategy (it says so on the app, and they're obviously keeping track, so far 114 have tried from the Xperia F3116).

If the x range uses drm-verity which I think all late 2015 onwards Xperia devices onwards do now then it'll be like the z5 range root on unlocked Bootloader only I think. If this is the only way to get root if it'll be even possible on the xa and other x devices looks like I'm going back to stock when i get mine, my M2 is rooted and heavily modified always has been but I refuse to use kingroot.

Kingroot can be removed and replaced by SuperSU you know, after rooting. At least that's what I did on Xperia Z3 Compact. I never left stock by the way, and kept bootloader intact. Now it remains to be seen if Kingroot or anyone will ever be able to root the XA safely at all.

Yes it is according to some the wifi bug has been fixed some are getting 4hrs sot time with ease Bluetooth may have the same problem according to some also depends on how the device is set up try doing either a factory reset or software repair via Sony pcc you need to start with the latest firmware on a totally clean install. Root is probably gonna be a while as someone needs to build kernel+recovery if drm-verity is in use it'll be unlocked Bootloader root only x range not supported by kingroot either for now

Have you even tried any of the above and gave it time to settle down and go through a few cycles. Try posting on the xa Sony support forum the problems/bugs in the thread they have going on, they were quick enough to fix the wifi bug and the more people that report back there with the problems the faster they'll get it sorted.

Sorry but plenty of people are far too quick to just come on here like we all know the answers to everything and thinking they know better you'd be surprised how many people will swear they have tried everything, I know from personal experience that a factory reset and or a software repair/ftf flash via flashtool wiping the phone can do, most people try and do it without totally wiping the data it can also take upto a week for a device to settle down after updates ect. Sony know about the major bugs and are working on fixes that I know and sony are better than most other oem's regarding updates and device su, root will take a little while I think it is just to new yet try getting other x/xa owners emailing kingroot support for device support not that I'd use it myself, i hope I can help move things on a bit when I get mine next week
On the plus side it's supposedly really easy to unlock the bootloader (it's a setting in the developer options)

No that only makes it possible to unlock the bootloader you still have to do it manually after that. Should not be that much work though.

Does anyone agree that sony still hasn't rolled out the "fixed" nougat?

I'm on Xperia Z5 (E6653, Vodafone UK) haven't still got Nougat, I know it takes some time for it to arrive to carrier based devices but the problem is that this new 32.3.A.0.376 Has only rolled out to regions that received Nougat before. XperiFirm shows that only 4 regions; Australia, Philippines, Russia and Thailand have got the update. the same regions were also the first regions who got the first Nougat build, Judging by a little number jump on the build number (3 to 6), I'm thinking this is a little update to fix some little bugs, not major stuff. I think the major update is yet to come with big fixes. What do you guys think?

Look I might not have Nougat but I've seen it on a friends Z5 in which he flashed it, it's good but he says it got bugs. your third question I won't answer because It's already answered on the first post. and all I want from Nougat is a bug-free and smooth running update, although Xperia X lockscreen and manual camera controls would be nice which they didn't include.
You have a good point and I was thinking along the same lines, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is the fixed Nougat and it is just that buggy.
The update rolled out near the end of the week and they don't seem to roll out updates on weekends often. If I recall RU was also one of the first to get Marshmallow and places like Taiwan only got it a week later. 6.1 took even longer for some places...
EDIT: Also, TH did not get Nougat before. They got the small .11 update in the weeks after Nougat was pulled back.

Well I do think they're taking too long this time around.... The weekend is over and still no Z5 updates. They did roll out the update on the Z4 tablet yesterday but that was it...

It's worth upgrading for me. Super smooth, no battery drain, pleasing battery icon, no more sim tag in status bar is awesome. Call log UI is great, finger print sensor is blazing fast. Not obsessed with X locksreen anyway. Camera swipe to change camera is great.
Disappointing is that we don't have Vulkan, I don't know why.
I have this issue : when placing a call with speaker on, the mic doesn't work. Could you guys try and tell me?

Which version are you on? 376 or 372? I'm on 372 still haven't updated to 376 and I can say the volume bug is the worst bug I've ever encountered, I can't hear my ringtone. There's also this bug in which contacts and phone apps' accent colors don't change.
I had to rollback to mm, actually using romx because Nougat has a terrible thermal management and battery give me about 2 SOT

I'd hate to disagree on that. Nougat has better thermal management than on MM. But I guess it varies from person to person.

What variant are you using? I tried Au and phi, I got about 2 sot, on mm used to get 4 hours.
Someone told to try the Russian variant
I updated to 376 and I can say that the battery life is much much better, fingerprint is very fast sometimes I just press the power button and it unlocks, volume bug is fixed and thermal management is great; there's no annoying heat. And the reason there's no Vulkan is that the drivers for it hasn't been released for 810.

376 and still these issues. Photo analyzing fast though. Accent change is OK here (376). Audio playback issue with games is there for me as I said before and lag in phone's app.

Your accent bug is fixed on phone and contacts? Here check this screenshot, I'm running a dark gray accent theme but the phone app shows a blue accent, other apps like messaging and settings work fine. Just phone and contacts.

really XZ became so laggy

Hi,
I have the dual sim version... since a quite long time I am suffering from unbearable lags... I am not sure, which update caused that and for now I am on the latest "41.2.A.7.35".. my symptoms are as follows:
- high RAM usage.
- phone becomes laggy so I know who is calling in couple of seconds after ringing
- switching between apps became impossible (like between GPS and phone call)
- sometimes I open it and I see the applications icons on the screen are refreshing like if I have just restarted the phone.
- i do 4 to 5 restarts per day to make the phone functioning but this is very annoying.
I found another thread in sonytalks about the same... they recommend to turn off google feed which is what I did 5 minutes ago and still don't know the result.
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-XZ/Very-Slow-processing-what-happen/td-p/1240359/page/4
Do you have an idea, or fix, or shall I simply change the phone?
Thanks,
Same here.
Just sit down and wait for Sony release a new FW.
well i finnaly managed to get my xz working how it meant to... by unlocking bootloader....rooted.... and then flash latest ftf and andro kernel v28 and then i flashed rytekk`s battery perfomance tweak https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz/development/tweak-small-tweak-battery-memory-t3637240 and im happy that my xz really works now...definetly faster, smoother all around then stock non rooted.for me this is only solution...but im asking myself how they cant make a smooth stock non laggy device especialy in year 2017 where chips are so powerfull...and yea someone will say get an iphone but for me an iphone is like having an android phone with kernel enabled constantly to max perfomance with no downscaling LOL no wonder iphones drain so quickly...i just hope that brands will focus on software optimisations in the future and not so mutch about specs but yes at the end this is there strategy how to sell products.

Sad to hear it. I changed from Honor 6X.
Honor is good with their EMUI, and it also has the best fingerprint sensor that I ever used.
But I need a water proof device, so I picked XZ.
Not sure it is a good idea

Good to hear that. So we can fix or wait for SONY fix it. I have no plan to root or flash any custom FW
Wonder why SONY always have good hardware but OS/Software is a true sucker.

i think they dont want to push chips at max just to be on safe side...thats why maybe sony baterries and as a whole device can last mutch longer then Samsung devices...and did u ever heard about exploding Sony device?i still didnt...but if i pay 700e for a device witch is flagship i expect to act like one...why put a sd820 in a device when u dont even use full potencial...lamers...

Nah ... I just want my device running as fast as it can be.
BTW, removed Messenger Lite and FB Lite, RAM dropped from 2.5GB to 1.8 GB.
I think I should say bye to FB app. :cyclops:
seems turning off google feed helped so far... lower ram usage and better performance

well... after one day of testing... i wouldnt say turning off google feed and google now helped that much... it just delays the RAM filling... so the performance degradation will just be shifted and it happens

Im alergic to lag and what ur experiencig made me so mad that i had to unlock booloader and find solution to it...but as i told before this is not official solution...Sony really needs to consider about that....why we have to root the device to make it usable for our terms....Im looking in to Nokias these days and hope they gonna gonna be good...and my last Sony phone is definetly XZ .Im not looking froward to it anymore.
Try disabling the app Movie Creator and see if that helps. That was the cause in my XZ.

same like me... this is my last sony phone ever.... the phone should serve me... not me to serve the phone by disabling half of my apps aiming for a stable performance... this should not be the case
In my case, it seems it was the the latest update of Movie Creator doing something and not related to the firmware itself.
Having the same issue with my XZ Dual. Laggs are driving me nuts all the time, rebooting doesn't help for long. I have also noticed that my phone usually have loadavg at least as high as 18 all the time (do cat /proc/loadavg in terminal). Pretty overloaded.
The quickest possible way to find our who is slowing device should be running ps or top in termnal. But unfortunatelly they have very limited output without root access. And getting root is such a pain for this device.
I've noticed that my XZ started to lag after the July security updates. Maybe it has something to do with that?
Mine was lagging since at least June. Did a full wipe (i'm on stock), lags returns after reinstalling apps.
had the same issue , disable the movie making app that came with the phone ,

well rooting this device its not even close to pain ...i unlocked also Z5 before without a single problem and also backed up DRM keys and restored also without problem..the same way is for our XZ everything is clear and tested before...i never unlock booloader if there is not no option to lock it back...i check first...but i dont advise u to do that if u dont have experience with adb and flashtool...wish i would not do all of that stuff for my xz but i had to cuz its the only way to get it working smoothly.

1st update on my Indian Moto x4

Hey guys just received 1st update from Moto let's see what's all improvement done.
Yup. They sent it out yesterday. Says it improves depth mode. I tested it and I should say it does have slight improvement however I still experience foreground blur on my face and my body. Don't worry i won't post any selfies ? here ? . But I'm still kind of disappointed. Anyways, if you want better foreground focus in portrait mode, I suggest using the paid version of "Camera FV-5" app from the playstore. It doesn't have a very strong blur like the stock camera, but at least it manages to focus properly. Other software improvements I'm yet to test but so far I'm really glad that at least motorola (lenovo) rolled out an update!
After this update battery seems to drain quickly

Sounds stupid but... I have something like that and after restart, everything is back to normal again.
It sounds like Oreo is just around the corner.
I hope the memory management, and lag in apps like play store and Twitter shld be gone with Oreo. Really annoying. Anybody else have this problem or it's only me??
