Getting hot

Are more people having a warm / hot sensation?
I use Revolution HD, but not OC'ed!
Its getting real warm when im using the phone normal, its getting hotter when im playing a game (i understand).
When i remove the battery, and smell the part thats around the simcard im smelling the phone.

I got that too. But mine is on stock. My battery got to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. I was using GPS to get me to Conyers, Ga coming from Atlanta. Only 45 minutes drive and it was giving me overheating warnings on the screen. Also if you charge in the car and it's hot outside it gets like 115 degrees Fahrenheit. Not cool.

From my experience this device can get pretty warm when it is being used intensively but I expected that given the fact that it does have a dual core processor.

Just use the T-Mobile myAccount application or download the battery widget as it gives you battert health, warnings, full and empty alerts and temperatures. Much easier, plus the widget alerts you when the phone is overheating.

Battery temp really doesn't matter. I would like to know the temp of the processor. But without any passive cooling on a dual core processor, It's going to get pretty hot. The only thing cooling it is a sort of heat spreader. The smell is just the warm electronics smell, hell go smell the vents on your t.v.

Mine gets pretty hot as well but its not the battery. Its the lower part of the screen and when i pull the back the whole bottom part of the phone gets hot. Maybe the processor? I feel like I need an intercooler for my boosted phone

When I had first got the phone, i laid it down on my bed while i slept. I woke up feeling like i was on fire. I touched the phone and it was super hot. Way hotter than my laptop gets. I'm surprised it didn't catch on fire. Hasn't really happened since.

I left it stock and took it to work, i thought my leg had been biten by something but when i pulled out my phone i realised it was the immense heat coming from where the 4 touchscreen buttons are.... I personally think they have went to far to quickly with dual core and our hard earned dollars and pounds are being blagged...

Your phone usage is extremely heavy as indicated by the battery graph. You'll have to scale down your usage, no rom or kernel can improve much with this kind of heavy usage.

if you on promethius its wifi also disable background data

Data is disabled, only enable data when i turn on the screen, and its when the battery begins to eat.

your ADB Daemon is running all the time. it is seems that your phone stay in debugging mode. I bet you have always about 20% CPU usage

That might be caused also by a widget.
I had installed a clock widget(don't remember the name).
When I fell asleep with 100% charged battery,in the morning the phone had just 20~25%.

I have removed the only widget I had ... which was to Flipboard, to see just now ...

the battery starts to spend when active data (2G) or wifi. 10% every hour if I have wifi or data assets and off the phone just.
If they are not data or wifi battery does not spend much.

Theoretically you are right. Mine is also ON all the times. But in his case seems to run 50 minutes out of 5h and in normal situation you will never detect this service as long as you are not USB connected to PC. Am i right?

True. But by right it should not start unless it is plugged to a computer, so now the question is what's making it start? I would hazard a guess at anything that may use adb, for example aLogcat.

Okay, the problem is that coverage of my town is very very bad, and the phone is constantly looking for coverage. took 1 day in another town and still I have the 5% of the battery, almost 24 hours. problem solved, thank you very much mates

Nexus 5 battery problems

Hi. I have a two-months-old Nexus 5 (stock ROM & kernel; rooted). Two days ago my battery suddenly started having some problems. First of all, it doesn't last more than 1-2 hours with normal phone usage. Then it often becomes hot, even when not charging. Last but not least, if I keep using my phone while charging, it charges incredibly slowly, or it doesn't charge at all (the charge remains stable). I'm using the stock charger. Any suggestion?

The Nexus 5 has been proven to last longer then an SGS4 which has a bigger battery, and the HTC one with the same size battery (under proper testing conditions) all while using a faster SoC. Do you troll the forums for those phones as well?
Maybe a Moto G or LG G2 would suit some people better for their increased battery life, but that doesn't mean you need to troll every thread on here with false accusations.
If you'd like any more proof on how the N5 battery lasts longer and is more efficient than competing phones of higher prices, just let me know.

I did what you said; I have attached some screenshots. I'm not an expert about this, but it seems like you were right. What shall I do?

The most important stat to look at is partial wakelocks - it lets you see which app or apps are waking.

Go into device settings > Location. Set Mode to Device only. Ensure that the Google location reporting in that same area is off.
Take another BBS log and post it.

I experience the same issues. Not charging when connected or even lose charge when connected. I am still figuring out what causes it. First of all try using the original cable and charger. Second, disconnect the charger when the screen is on, I read somewhere that can help as well.
Today I had the same issue again, but just before I started charging, the battery would lose 1% per 2 minutes and my phone became very warm.
If I find out more, I will let you know.

That is the problem. That particular wakelock belongs to Google Now. I hope you don't use it, because the solution is to turn it off (from within the program). You could try force stopping and/or wiping it's data. But the fact of the matter is that it's a bug in the app.
Google Now has been this way since it was released. The only conclusion I can draw is that Google doesn't care. It's never behaved properly. And that location reporting (that you've now disabled) is completely out of control, been that way for a year now. I actually greenify the Google apps now. I'm tired of putting up with the lazy programming. Keep, Now, Chrome, Drive, Maps, I greenify all of those. I still allow them to sync, but Greenify will kill them again after they are finished.

I can confirm that I have no battery problems anymore (today after 6 hours of average usage it was still at 80%!!). Thank you all for your help!

Good to hear. If anyone else see's Android OS or Search taking up 50% or more of your battery that can be mitigated.

Take out your Battery, put it on a flat surface say a table. Try to Spin it....if it spins over 2 rounds then you need to buy a new battery.

Let's see that battery life

Post up your screen shots and show us how good or bad your battery life is. Tell us whether you have the snap dragon or exynos version, what carrier you're on, what tweaks you may have done, whether you have the S8 or S8+.
I have the Snap Dragon S8+ with T-Mobile.
I have auto brightness on, with optimized performance mode on. I have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS enabled, always on display is also on. I have not shut any apps off except lookout security. I have adguard also. If I can answer anymore questions, let me know.
Best battery life I've ever had on a phone.

Will be nice if people post their settings too especially those with crazy good bat life

I'll post mine at end of day. Going all in, running Twitter and also normal multitasking and playing music in the background.

Not real impressed with mine yet, I know it'll get better but I've only gotten 1hr screen on time so far.
Display set to 1080p, 50% brightness, smart mode, and very little use other then streaming music.
But my lg v20 lasted that long doing the same everyday. Not sure why android eats ups battery streaming music, my iPhone 7 plus can stream music for 8 hrs and still have between 85-90% battery. Hopefully android will make it better.
Like the phone so far though. It's a lot smoother than my s7 edge was.

Cool. I'm getting the regular. Should be somewhat close to that I'm thinking. Whats exciting is that your battery life is out of the box. The software must be much more optimized and the processor efficient.

Playing music almost constantly since 830, maps, bluetooth, and browsing. 60% brightneess and WQHD+

Here are mine. Still about 24% left. About 30mns call, 2hrs google play music and some facebook,youtube etc

Here's an update on mine after getting home and not steaming music. I'd say if you don't stream music they battery is awesome. I'm happy with battery. Just wish they would optimise music streaming with screen off like apple. But not complaining, I'm happy.

I have an S8. I'm quite impressed. WQHD+, 50% brightness

You guys are happy with your New toy thats why screen sips most of the Juice however whats interesting is testing idling on 4g/3g and see how much Android os is taking

Galaxy S8, 5hrs 36mins, blown away by it considering I was only getting 3.5hrs on the S7, disabled some bloatware through package disabler and on about 30% brightness

4 hours playing super Mario sunshine with a ps4 controller got me about 4 hours 60%
720p 50% brightness.
Figured the iPhone 7 is 720p why not save battery

Has anyone else gotten this? It's about 87* out, but I've kept the phone in the shade. After two 4k videos clips, maybe 30 sec each.

It's about 94 Degrees F in Miami Fl today and I record 4K for about 20-30 mins straight (5-6 Mins Clips) today No problems here. Maybe a rogue app in the background. Check your Memory Manager and restart your phone. If that doesn't work Wipe(reset) your U11.

Case or no case?
I was using the included case at the time, which can definitely hold in heat. I had also been watching a few YouTube videos first over mobile data.

My phone gets super hot too!

I just installed the CPUTemp app and will try to quantify it if it happens again.
I'm definitely noticing intermittent lag. Not sure if it's bloatware, thermal throttling, or both.

Did a quick test:
- No case
- Inside at 74*F
- Recording 4k video for 5 min
The CPU temp rose from an idle temp of 36*C pretty quickly, then settled at around 46*C.
Anyone know what the max temp is on these 835's?

Now just dubbing around in the Tapatalk app (on Wi-Fi), for 10min or so, it has yet to drop below 44*C

This seems a little odd. The CPU frequency flat line in this screen shot, is screen off. Why would it stay fixed around 1000MHz with screen off, then dip down as low as 300MHz while on?

It just happened to me today, but I must tell I was in the sun recording a video of my little girl in her swimming pool in the shade...
I didn't touch any video setting, so I don't know if it's in 4k by default...

This probably won't help but I did a quick test yesterday, room temperature was roughly 30°C, battery temperature was 35°C and I set it to record 4K video for about 15 mins (3 clips).
No overheating warnings and the peak temperature reached was 46°C.

You should try using power saver mode. I never turn mine off on my HTC phones. It makes a lot of difference.

Happened to me too. Phone was outside in the shade, about 80F. After 10 sec of videos, it stopped.

I was out in the garden and it was 29 degrees. The phone was recording at 1080p and shut down after 6 mins recording.
I tried recording indoors today and the temperature of the phone shot up to 49 degrees then shut the camera down. As a result of the heat being generated I lost at least 6% of battery life. This clearly isn't normal.

Anyone contact HTC yet?

I've got in touch with them and it's definitely not normal. They've asked me to send the device back and mark it as DOA.
Maybe anyone else having the same issue should contact HTC as well.

Wife's S8 does the exact same thing after a few minutes of videos and pictures.
