Put a black 'Tudia' case on my PH-1 the day I got the phone. And, every day or two, I had a problem with touchscreen hypersensitivity that accelerated if I ignored it until only a hard reset (push & hold power button for 60 sec., +-) would restore control.
Before returning the phone I wanted to exclude the possibility that the phone wasn't at fault so, when next the phone screen began to act erratically, I immediately pealed off the 'Tudia' case. The erratic touchscreen issue mitigated. I put on a clear, silicone-like case by 'Incipio'. No resumption of the erratic touchscreen issue.
A week has past since then and the runaway screen control issue has not resumed.
WAG? The black 'Tudia' case (or a coating on it) has a low level of conductivity that confuses the capacitive touchscreen functionality of the PH-1's edge-to-edge screen.
Anybody else experienced touchscreen issues?
Sounds like you need to do some testing. Also Tudia makes several cases. Be more specific. And moisture can interfere with touch screens. Perhaps there was some moisture just at the edge of the screen and case you didn't see - it could just be sweat, mist, something you wouldn't necessarily see.

Checked capacitance with (2) volt-ohm meters. Nothing measurable.
The problem, gone now that I've changed covers, took hours to days to develop with the black Tudia cover installed. Reminded me of a memory leak error.
Here's the make/model info:

That's the Tudia TAMM. I use one as my daily driver as well, but can't attribute any touch issues to it. Have you tried thoroughly wiping the inside of the case? Wipe the outside too. I reckon there's some sort of residue or metal dust that's interfering with your display, since my touch issues are always present and the case itself is not conductive at all.
I've been using the same case and besides the usual touch issues native to the phone itself, it's been working fine w/ that case.
I have the grey version of the case and also get the touch issue. It seems on my phone to always happen over where the letter j would be on my keyboard although when it starts I can make it go away by turning my screen off for two seconds. Maybe I'll try not using the case for awhile and see if it goes away
No touch issues since I changed to clear "Incipio" cover 8 days ago.
Several (a dozen?) apps have updated so can't exclude them as causes for the unpredictable erratic touchscreen issue.
I didn't try wiping/cleaning the Tudia. That seems like a good idea because both the problematic old cover and the problem-free new one are thermoplastic urethane (TPU) products.
I'll put the Tudia case back on today. If it truly was the cause of my touchscreen issue, the problem, gone since removing it, should resume.

the fact that both are polyurethane doesn't exclude the possibility that the black Tudia might be the cause for your touchscreen issues. Black PU is typically filled with carbon black. At some concentration of carbon black it becomes conductive (or at least more conductive that you can't measure with a multimeter). So I would not completely rule this out. I also have the same Tudia case but have not had that problem. You could try to use some thin plastic 'stretch-tite' food wrap and wrap the case in it before you put it on and test it with and without....just an idea
cheers

OK, the erratic touchscreen syndrome resumed at 4pm 01/22/2018, 2 days after I took the clear Incipio case off & put the black Tudia case on.
I'm through testing. There's a problem with the black Tudia--maybe the pigment is conductive, maybe a film of release agent, maybe something else. Regardless, I'm back to using the clear case.

My day old Raphael is showing some coating problems. This morning I thought I saw a speck of dust. Tried to wipe it clean and the coating came off. Think what you like, but if you look at the two left circles you can see for yourself. No way a key or chain or whatever can do that. No damage just coating that isn/t there anymore at the size of <1mm. Send HTC an email, wondering what their reaction will be. Keep you posted!

Sorry to hear the bad luck, Good luck with HTC but I would not hold my breath
I would (for a one day device).
it is the anodize on the brushed aluminum... anodize is an electrochemical plating that is used to keep aluminum from oxidizing. either the aluminum wasn't prepped properly or the plating process was seriously flawed...or both. Anodize should hold up better but can easily be scratched by another metal...in aerospace, anodize is always followed up with a MIL spec primer and an optional top-coat of enamel.

I have got so this problem.Already have you got answer from HTC?
same problem here
I have the same problem.
Black coating comes off at different spots without any contact to sharp items (especially as my Touch PRO never goes into my pocket without it's case).
My phone is only 10 days old, and I asked 2call.nl to take it back and replace it.
They said I have to go to HTC directly, but HTC sais that the retailer is responsible for replacement for devices not older than 14days.
I feel like a ping pong ball, but agree to HTC and will put more preasure on 2call.nl.
They have to take it back by law, and I will not accept "go and try at HTC".
Will keep you posted.
I've found two other users experiencing same problems. One of them also bought it from 2call if I'm not mistaken. He got his replaced. Mine is from a different store. Bummer, I really don't feel for some pingpong. Keep you posted... Mail response: Give us a call. Yeah right so they can say its not our problem because its not 14 days old...
I have noticed that HTC has used factory "touch-up" which is basically a black sharpie marker to spot-cover some of the damaged finish where the anodize is damaged for whatever reason. You can really see this if you slide the keyboard out and look under the aluminum trim (edge that gets covered when the keyboard is closed). In the right light, the "touched-up" areas will have a distinct purple tint instead of black. Take a look, most units I have looked at have some degree of repair. Problem is, black marker comes off pretty quick and you are left with silver spots everywhere. Someone, in HTC manufacturing made a huge mistake and the build quality suffered tremendously... I love the hardware and the features of the TouchPro but the build quality is the worst I have seen... I am an aerospace engineer and I see this all the time. Just my 2 cents...
As long as the screen is okay, I wouldn't sweat it. Kinda like bumpers on cars, made for bumping
I was going to recommend a light touch with a permanent overhead marker pen, good thing about being black - didn't realise the manufacturers basically do the same thing...!
Remember back to when I was young and put a scratch on the front of my brand new Spectrum 48K - black marker to the rescue. I've even used them on the edge of book bindings that sometimes get scuffed...
From the photo though the long one seems more like a scratch, perhaps done at manufacture, and now the cover up has worn off. The points are what I would associate with non take up of the anodize.
So I decided to purchase a full-body skin for my G2 after deciding I disliked all of the cases I'd tried for it. Didn't even fancy the Otterbox. I was going to get the StealthGuard one considering its price (or lack thereof), but apparently they're no longer available... so I went hunting on Amazon.
I'm not anal about the aesthetics of my phone, I'm more concerned about its proper function, so between this skin and the sleeve I put my phone in when it's in my pocket (the old G1 case, it fits the G2 perfectly if any of you guys have your old G1 accessories lying around anywhere), I don't think anything physically will be breaking on the phone anytime soon.
The selling point for me was that it came with 2 full skins. Knowing me, I was going to screw up at least one piece (and that I did!), so I didn't want to deal with contacting BodyGuardz and having them ship me replacement.
Here's what you get.
-2 "full-body" (quotes because it isn't really full-body - I will explain)
-little microfiber cloth
-good sized bottle of application solution.
-squeegee, which was basically a credit-card-thickness rectangular piece of plastic. I didn't even use it because I have something better (the hard rubber squeegee ZAGG gives you - much better)
Instructions are slim, you basically have to just know what to do.. not like it's very complicated, though. The provided diagram proved useful in a couple of instances. I was liberal with the application solution and worked from front to back. All of the pieces are relatively accurate to the phone's shape, and the only two corners that are fully exposed are the bottom left and right corners (if you are holding the phone portrait-style, screen facing you).
I also just gave up on the top-front portion that is applied just above the speaker grill. It is too small to be able to bend and stick (at least for me it was). I'm sure if you had a way of clamping it in place until the adhesive set, it would be fine, but I was too impatient.
The back was annoying because there are only two pieces: the battery cover piece, and then another single piece for the entire rest of the back (everything surrounding the battery cover). It was extremely difficult to get this lined up properly as one giant piece. I almost gave up and cut it into separate pieces, but I got it close enough and decided it was fine as-is. If I ever have to re-apply one of these, I will definitely cut it into separate pieces. I would recommend if you buy this skin, you do the same. Save yourself the frustration.
All in all, I'm happy with it. It does what I need it to do and I don't have to deal with additional bulk, which always gets on my nerves when you are using a case. Been two days since I installed it and bubbles are starting to go away and it's becoming more "natural" looking.
Pros:
-2 for 1, if you screw up, you dont have to wait for a replacement
-material gives you some added grip when you're holding the phone
-pieces fit well, despite the fact that it's not a 100% full cover it feels capable of protecting your phone from bumps and bruises with the exception of the two corners mentioned
-retains the sweet G2 stock look
-no bulk! doesn't affect z hinge function.
Cons:
-install of surrounding back piece and front top pieces are pull-your-hair-out frustrating.
-material is VERY prone to collecting smudges and fingerprints, especially if you have perpetual clammyhands like me.
-"glossy" look may be a turn-off for some people
-despite claims, it's not full-body protection
-~$30 shipped... but since it's 2 for 1, it's not that bad a deal if you ask me.
All in all, I give this product the thumbs up. I've tried numerous cases and finally decided this was a better route, and I feel like I made the right choice. The combination of this skin and my G1 sleeve makes for adequate protection with very little added bulk, just what I needed!
Pics of installed skin on post 3
Waiting for the pics. I might pick one up

Good thing you didn't use the included "squeegee". I have the Bodyguardz dry type screen protector (screen only, not full protection). I applied it per the instructions using the included squeegee, and got 2 long scratches on the protector. Pretty sure the squeegee had some sharp protrusions on it that caused the scratches. They aren't too bad, and I can live with them. But next time I will use something else, or cover the squeegee with the microfiber cloth as i press the screen protector on (which I have read another user on these forums recommend).
Aside from that, I am overall satisfied with the Bodyguardz screen protector. The surface felt a bit tacky or sticky when sliding my fingers over it. But that seems to have mostly gone away after a couple weeks. As the OP mentioned, they are a bit prone to showing fingerprints, but not as bad a cheaper screen protectors. It adheres well with no air bubbles after careful application.
Good review, BTW. Thanks for taking the time to write it and post the pics.
I took off my case after a drop today and noticed a few cracks near the SIM tray and power button.
Is this a common problem?

One of those $2 quicksand hard cases from eBay.
Although I doubt it was caused by the drop since impact was at the top of the phone (back cover cracked open slightly)?

The shock of the impact travels throughout any rigid material unless it is specifically designed to dissipate the vibrations. But it's not a car so I very much doubt it does that, so I would expect it is indeed related to the drop.

Its definitely the shock traveling through the device from the impact. Its not a unibody design so the different parts such as the mid section has very minimal stress levels due to its isolation from the back panel. And if you notice the crack appeared to have occurred in one of the weakest parts of the bezel. Also its a very thin plastic with an extremely thin bezel.
I have a crack exactly in same spot. I have always using Spigen Neohybrid case.
The crack seems to be very common in all of the nexus 5 phones I have worked with. I have swapped out several screens and all of them had a crack near the sim tray and a few below the volume buttons.

exact the same on my both nexus 5
I've been considering buying an N5 so I've been keeping an eye on eBay, and there are lots of N5s which have that crack. Every seller says that it doesn't cause any problems, which I believe, but it's clearly some sort of minor design flaw.

Yeap, i also have this crack + one on the bottom part of the volume button
My phone have them too.
My red N5 have two cracks - volume buttons and jack... and I use a spygen case, too. This is a design flaw, IMO.
Plus: if you press the area between volume buttons and the rear panel, you'll be able to activate volume switches.
Same here few months ago...
Google refuse to replace my phone because it's a cosmetic default wich "don't affect usage of the phone".
So I call the support few weeks after and I says that I've some untimely reboot. They send me a new phone immediatly...
A lot of people have this problem and Google replace some of them but not all...
my device has also that crack issue. what I did is I bought a slickwrap skin. and it looks good now!
Mine was cracked and the piece fell off out of the box brand new. Never affected the functionality.
Mine also has crack as on photo. Mine has Spigen hybrid case from first day so my thoughts are that it is factory defect, and that spot is a weak spot.

Sounds like a manufacturing defect ie improperly prepped metal
If your within any relevant cooling off period then send it back for a refund or replacement.
If they question the chip explain what's happened and see what they say.
Be prepared for them suggesting it's user caused however
I'll try and get a pic, will have to use the Mrs phone to do so ? I've had it a month now so well outside of the colling off periods, will get a pic and post later

All along the bottom edge is definitely a manufacturer defect. Of course I assuming you don't use MEK to clean your screen
One concern is if the damage goes below the glass it will breach the seal and may allow water, moisture and dust to get inside.
If that's the case it should to be replaced.

Yeah It was difficult to describe to as its silver on black its standing out like a sore thumb to me... considering it was under protection too... The image isn't that good plus no stereoscopic vision on it.
Looks like impact damage but could have happened during production or assembly.
Doesn't look like the case seal is compromised.
I be inclined to send it back especially if I knew it wasn't caused by me. That's a lot of down time though.
If the case seal is intact ie it's a clean nick with no hairline fractures extending under the screen, your call.
If it's covered by the case, you seldom see it.
When you eventually have it serviced you could have the frame replaced but Samsung certainly won't cover it then.
Meh, I feel your pain
I have same issue! Top left corner, bottom left corner, and in between those 2 corners paint is peeling off. it's 2 month old phone, never dropped, always in my hands... Damn it's 1400eur phone with most quality issues...
Green tinted display, heat issues, paint peeling off, etc...
Hi,
I have been using the 7 pro since the day it launched. Out of nowhere, last week, I saw a blackish patch on the left side of my display. One week later, it is spreading like a virus and taking more area of the screen. Posting pictures here. Any idea what may have caused this.
I reached out to Google, and they are sending in a replacement. I was just wondering if someone else came across such a problem
Thank you

Could that be caused by dirt or debris getting up in there? That seems a little more significant than maybe a group of dead pixels. Regardless to me it seems pretty serious and not something that a soft reset would fix.
Looks like Purity, the black oil/cancer alien virus from the X-Files
Pretty sure I've seen this on someone else's device but don't recall if the cause was discovered.
That is caused by a break in the internal LCD structure. It can happen from a drop - especially with a device having curved glass! The curve might put the internal LCD at bigger risk of breaking depending on the overall display construction (both internal and external).
I'm more surprised by this happening without the exterior glass breaking or cracking at all. I guess the new Gorilla Glass Victus is stronger than I had anticipated. Perhaps the Pixel 7 series phones really got the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 glass (although it says that it just got "Gorilla Glass Victus" on the Google Store page). I say this because the Pixel 6 series of phones had the same glass, however, could very easily gather visible scratches (for example, my jeans could leave a visible scuff LOL). But my P7P hasn't gotten any visible scuffs or scratches at all yet - which has left me wondering what was changed in its supposedly identical glass sides.

Best of luck with the replacement device! But overall, it just seems like you need to be extra careful with modern technology nowadays. Companies out there seems to be building stuff that is easier to break or degrades faster in order for them to stay more profitable over time =/.
I miss the days where the companies used to compete to see who could build the device that lasted the longest...especially considering the fact that I never use screen protectors or cases on my phones and so one drop would cost me an arm, a leg and a kidney...haha
Yeah I see it
I got the replacement device. And they said if there is no physical damage outside, there will be no charge. There is not any damage, and honestly it did not fell as well in the last one month. Just once when I got the device. and nothing happened that time.
