Unable to Connect to Cellular Network - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

I have an issue with my Galaxy S7 (Verizon), such that it won't connect to the cellular network, and will only text via Wifi. It's almost like the cellular radio is dead, as the icon is grey with an "x", and it can't even make 911 calls. It worked fine for a few months though, and just one day began acting like this. There has been no physical damage to it.
Phone
------
Samsung Galaxy S7
SM-G930V
Android 7.0
Build NRD90M.G930VVRU4BQK4
Things I have tried
------
Made sure there are other Verizon phones nearby getting service
Rebooted phone multiple times
Reset network settings miltiple times
Factory reset phone
Checked IMEI: Clean
Ran the Verizon - Samsung Repair Assistant / Software Upgrade Assistant
Flashed the newest (and oldest) firmware from sammobile.com
Tested two different SIM cards in the phone, and tested those two in other phones (they work). Spoke to Verizon to activiate the SIM cards.
I'm really at a loss, and don't want to drop a few hundred dollars for another phone. Has anyone encountered something like this, or have any ideas? I'm happy to give more details about the phone and its software.

I also have this problem with my Verizon S7 G930V.
with baseband version: G930VVRS4BQI1
but it is reading signal strenght

It's frustrating because the phone was fine for months, and it's not like I dropped it or physically hurt the cell radio somehow. If a software update broke the connection, i was hoping all the resets and flashes I tried above would fix the issue, but to no avail.

Can you post a screenshot of your mobile data settings under setting>Mobile and networks.
And are you trying to call 911 with inserted sim card ?
And when you update to nougat the problem comes ?

Can't call 911 with or without SIM card in (the network icon is always greyed out.
I believe the problem is independent of my Android version. I flashed the most recent version of Marshmallow from sammobile.com and the issue remained.
I can't seem to post images yet, but In my settings, it shows no signal (-120dBm 99asu). I am unable to change network mode from global to anything else. (like LTE\CDMA). I suspect it is hard-coded that way in the firmware. That is all the information there besides access point names, which I am able to alter.

It might be an issue with your phone's hardware.
Take it to a phone repair shop.

How did you flash the oldest firmware from sammobile with the G930V?
Downgrading firmware would not be possible with locked bootloader

I'm new to flashing, but I used the PrinceComsy Odin version and just loaded the appropriate files. It says the flash passed with no errors.
I did misspeak above though. I've tried various versions of Android 7, but was not successful with 6.

No, it's a SM-G930F

Is it possible the phone has been blacklisted?
Tried other sim cards in the phone?

[Q] OPO flashed on CM11s - Mobile Data issues

[/ATTACH]Hello my friends,
I really need your help now. Since the Oneplus One is so new there are only few people having experience with the smartphone and it's Problems. I searched the whole Internet but dit not find anyone with the OPO who has the same Problem as me..
My OPO is the chinese Version and i flashed it without PC on CM11s.
But I found that my Smartphone has got no mobile Internet and also I am not able to call someone.
After I saw this I flashed the phone two more times, but with my PC and fastboot. I used the Images here: https: //cyngn.com /products /oneplusone/
Once I flashed my phone with PC and fastboot I got mobile data sometimes for about one or two minutes, after that it breaks down.
My APN's are the same with my Provider.
I tried to solve this Problem for the whole weekend, I now even consider selling the phone again..
It would be really really nice if someone is able to help me!
Best regards,

hi
I had a similar problem. I had a sim card trimmed with scissors and was too loose.
I replaced the card with a new one.
A problem, however, remained. Sometimes I can not call, sometimes not the Internet. It looks like something crashed and helps only restart.
You tried to upload the "modem chack"?
I have the same problem. I hope it is not something with hardware.
I don't know... could you check production date on the box?
Sounds like a kernel issue, did you flash the right one?
Sent from my One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
What do you exactly mean saying rightone?
If you have a Chinese version then you need a kernel made for your phone.
Sent from my One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I instaled cm11s in fastboot according to instruction on this site. Can you show us which kernel we must use?
I'm exactly the same. I installed by the recovery and than two times through fastboot. ROM from the official site.
Another one here! I have exactly the same thread starter problem, 1 min after turn on the phone I cant call anymore or sending messages...
Right kernel? Can someone explaine? I have tryed to flash 3 version of CM11 and return back to ColorOS, the problem is not solved :|

And still no solutions?
Is possible that this is a hardware problem?
Bump!
Please help us boys, I have tried everything, I really dunno what to do
same problem
I'm having the same problem, the phone was working just fine when i first used it on ColorOs with voice calls working on 4g. however, as soon as I flashed CM11 it stopped working and I can only use 2g to make phone calls even though 4g internet works fine. I have flashed ColorOs but a rooted one, CM11 and other roms the problem is still there. If some one can find a solution for us I would be grateful.

I have the same issue, after flashing to CM11s, its like the cell network is sick, turn on for a while, then off. when the phone is in the pocket (sleep) totally not network, and people cannot call in.
I flash back to Colour OS, more stable and 4G is working fine.

If you didn't flash a new radio, then its probably a kernel issue.
Sorry where can i find the new radio for OPO...?

hi
I could not find radio.img for the OPO. I found the network settings through the code: *#*#4636#*#* and changed the settings.
was: TD-SCDMA, WCDMA and LTE
new: LTE / WCDMA
and see if it is ok...

Find Out ORIGINAL Firmware

How would I find out what the original firmware was on the s8 plus, due to the no service message and me not being able to use the phone I have flashed all Different CSC files,,, either way it didn't work... I was sold a dud phone I suppose...
meaning no service as in? you put your sim card in and it does nothing? usually if the phone is carrier unlocked and you put your sim card in, a message will pop up saying to reboot your phone to get all the carriers features....click okay, the phone reboots and do a factory data/reset and you should be good to go. Installing CSC is carrier services. Did you try flashing all firmware? What model is it? G955U,G955W,G955F,G9550,ETC......? if you can boot into the UI go into settings/about phone/software version look if you see something like G955USQU1AQGL (bootloader 1 hence U1AQGL) or G955USQU2AQK2 (BOOTLOADER 2.... 2AQK2).
When I put the sim card it it allows me to pick Sim 1 or Sim 2... it finds the Carrier LYCA but underneath says unknown

You have an Exynos 8+? If so I'd re-flash the OEM software for your region. Or with a US version if it is the 'other' type 8+. Then you can more straight forwardly ensure you have the 'correct' OS and a proper regional CSC.
If you have a local carrier phone shop have them check your phone to ostensibly 'hook you up' with their carrier service, so they'd need to check/test the phone for active service ability first. Then I think/hope you'd know if the SIM/hardware were working, and rule out ditching the phone. Or a local phone repair shop, if any are around. It's just a check, so if you had to pay, it ought to be very cheap, given you have a clean phone with OEM OS.
I can feel the frustration in your experimenting.
As far as 'telling' what your original phone 'was', I'm not sure. I think when I flash over mine, if I flash all four Odin packages, it changes my phone from it's original G955 to a, with it's current ROM, a N950, based upon Phone Info, CSC Carrier, etc and what info they show me.
I'm not sure if there is an app that can read the hardware and tell you what 'version'/model (OS) your phone was set to originally. I am thinking no, at this point.
Maybe someone will stop by and let us know definitively.
Might have to take it to a phone repair shop and see what they say... I have already XSA Australian firmware on it I even tried the Telstra and Optus but it gives me same results... I'm thinking can it be because the sin tray is single sim with memory, I have purchased a tray with SIM 2 and sim 2 but still waiting for it... but I do t think that's going to make a difference

I don't think the sim tray will make a difference. It's the stock one that came with the phone?
I'm interested in what you find out. Please post up what you discover.
Everything works WiFi, videos music player just no service even flashing multiple csc files didn't do the trick strange I was told it was an overseas model from a phone shop when I took to get the frp lock off spent 100$ for nothing haha...
The sim tray is original but single sim not dual SIM scanning up this phone it comes up as G955FD
Could it be because Knox was tripped it says Knox warranty good 0×1 on the phoneinfo app
My Knox is tripped when I rooted the phone. Working fine on Cricket, though I have a new Cricket story...
I put it in safe mode but still no good, I have put it up for grabs on eBay I think I lost majority of my hair working on it haha

Reason to Root Fold 2

I have an unlocked Fold 2 from Samsung. I love the idea of rooting and having full access/control over a device I own, but it has been years since I rooted a phone. Recently my needs have changed and I find I am thinking about rooting again. Just curious if the below reasons are worth rooting and if rooting will even help or would I need to root and load a a custom rom?
1st I need to disable the 5g radio on my phone. I live and work in an area with poor 5g coverage, but have just enough that the phone can see it and try's to default to it and ends up providing far worse connectivity than the LTE that is steller in my area. AT&T is who I use and they have disabled this feature in their portion of the firmware. I can plug in a buddies T mobile sim and after reboot have access to the menu that allows me to pick LTE and my preferred connection type but not on AT&T.
2nd This is less of a concern as I have work arounds, but I would like to remove any and all carrier control of my device. In particular their ability to monitor and dictate how I use my data, i.e. wifi/BT/usb tethering. Like I said I have a work around but its fiddly.
3rd I would like to be able to run full weight cellular diagnostic tools on my phone as well as have full access to the USSD dialer codes.
Can these things be done after rooting and or loading a custom rom, in particular on the Fold 2? I have been searching for a bit, but can't seem to target my search to just this thread as I end up having to sort through a dozen other threads. I can work my way through rooting my phone and loading a rom, just curious which apps and or roms to look for once I have rooted. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Ok how about this. Can anybody point me to a location that can help me figure out how to removed carrier specific configurations once rooted? I want to disable my 5g radio on my fold 2. This is something that can be done when it has a T Mobile sim, but not an AT&T sim.

You should google harder dude
You could just Flash an international firmware of an un-carrier branded software, they can be found here - https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-z-fold-2-5g/firmware/#SM-F916B
Try this app - ESET USSD Control : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eset.securedialer&hl=en&gl=US
Disable 5G radio :
Settings -> Connections -> Mobile Networks : Change the network mode

Sorry about the googling... Could only find and confirm that it was locked on att phones. As I have an unlocked variant I was not sure why I was having that problem. Thanks for the tip on F916B I did not know I could load that on the F916U1, I will look more into that. But again I thought the F916U1 from Samsung was unbranded.
Thanks for the software link.

I have been an XDA Forums member for about 10 years and have enjoyed countless custom ROM on dozens of devices ... here is my opinion ...
In 2020 there is ZERO point in rooting a phone. Full stop. The end.
Edit: no point whilst the manufacturer is still providing software updates & support
Fair point... Is there a means by which I can manual control the radios in my phone without rooting? For example sending custom crafted AT commands to the radio to do things like IMSI masking, band switching, and most importantly band aggregation commands.

Everyone's mileage may vary but I stand by what is said ... For me, I see ZERO need to root on Samsung android 10 or 11
If you had asked me a few years back, what I would do with a brand new android phone out of the box and I would have said "root". I think the last phone I rooted was note 8, out of habit and that voided my warranty and I didn't gain anything in return... almost everything I used to do, can be done without root. Ad blocking via disconnect pro and netguard, to disable apps, use ccswe (as long as knox licence isn't revoked), youtube vanced to fine tune adfree youtube, naptime for putting device to quick deep sleeps, side actions to configure power button behaviour etc... these were probably the things I could have only achieved with root earlier.
I personally rooted my Samsung Fold 2 just so I can degoogle it. I cant stand big tech so for me it was worth doing

ROMs with Verizon network support

Didn't forsee this being an issue once I got the bootloader unlocked. Is there a list of ROMs with Verizon network support?

I've never found a list. Carbon ROM is the only one that works for me with my Verizon MVNO. The Dev explained to me that Verizon is a "black box" and developers have to best guess to make things work.
Several years ago I moved from Sprint (CDMA like Verizon) to then Metro PCS (GSM) when I first came to XDA because of the incompatibility of many roms. Because most the world uses GSM... I would ask someone who knows exactly what to do to make Verizon work and try and master whatever that may be. Back in the day (NexusS4G days, Nexus 5) people who used Sprint, we had a zip we'd flash at the end of our installation and it would set the proper apns needed for us to have data. But I believe there is more to it with Verizon....
I have a OnePlus 6t now and I see many people with same issues and they have no data. Something with the phone not being able to read the sim card from what I've heard... I sent someone in 6t forums directions on how to swap apns-conf.xml and he said it didn't work and told me it was something else ...
If ypu want you can try this:
Save your apns-conf.xml located in your /system/product/etc/ while you are on Carbon rom and have working data. Then when you flash another rom delete the two existing files that are in the rom that has no data. So delete both the apns-conf.xml located in /system/product/etc/ and also located in your /product/etc/ and replace only the one in /system/product/etc/ with your working apns-conf.xml from Carbon rom that you had data working on. Then set permissions on the one you pasted in to 0644 using root explorer or whatever root file manager you use. After that go to settings/networks and internet/mobile networks/access point names/ and select the three dot and select "reset to default." If this is indeed an APN issue this will fix it and give you working data. Give it 2-3 minutes after you reset the APN to default. If you see LTE/5G pop up in your status bar, reboot and you'll be good from then on. That is, "if" this is an APN issue. If not then at least you tried something. I used this method MANY times on different devices and different carriers over the years and it always worked for me when I have no data after installing a rom. I'll attach some pics of permissions 0644 and all to this post. Credit for this goes to spaceminer where I first discovered this apn xml data fix.

From what I've researched so far it seems the issue only really relates to A11 and will be fixed when OOS is out of closed beta. Verizon is terrible about relinquishing control for devices they don't even own anymore. I've tried a few A10 roms and haven't really had any trouble. Supposedly KangOS got verizon data working on A11 but when I flashed it wasn't working, so maybe an older build.

Question Dev Option "Mobile Data Always Active" No Longer Functional

I have an ATT branded S21+ and have an issue I am trying to solve around always keeping my mobile data on. I connect to a couple of devices around the house, in the truck, and on the boat that are "wifi" devices. (For instance, on my boat, I have a WIFI transducer that sends sonar data to my phone for depth and temperature) Problem I am having is while I am connected to these sources, which do not have internet service, my phone refuses to use mobile data. I used to be able to toggle the "mobile data always active" function in dev options to correct, but it no longer seems to function. Anyone have a workaround?
S21+, A12, One 4.1, and just to see if it would correct the problem, I recently moved over to the U1 firmware. The problem still exists, but at least I don't have the ATT bloatware anymore.
go to settings > software information > tap Build number 7x or 10x idk...
Go back to Settings > scroll down and find Developer Options > search Mobile Data Always Active
That's what I was saying in the title of the post. The Dev Option is checked on, but it does not do anything and mobile data is not connected simultaneously. In past firmware (pre A12), when you toggle that on, the "5G" symbol shows up in between the Wifi and Signal Strength meter.
Nobody has run into this?
I have the same problem. Found settings under connections, mobile only apps, but it seems to do nothing.
There has to be a developer who can fix this. Willing to donate if so!

The weird thing is, I used that option to test this as well, and with the dev toggle mobile data always active OFF it does work for some reason....
My Chrome using whatismyip shows a Vodafone IP correctly..
I don't even have a "Mobile Data Only Apps" option to select. I know where it's supposed to be, it's just not there. On Samsung A12 U1 firmware.

Same issue here on my Note20 Ultra.
Did you find any workaround to have both connections active in the status bar?
Hi, I have the same issue with my Redmi Note 9 Pro with MIUI 12.5.7.
I have the "Mobile Data Always Active" option activated and it isn't working, when connected to Wifi the mobile data isn't connected...
Anyone knows a fix for this?
Or there is any app that can be a workaround?
Same here with s21 plus on Verizon, I used to have both 5G and wifi on, after the last update the 5g icon disappeared while im on wifi. The problem is everytime I leave a wifi area the phone takes forever to switch back to mobile network and I have to restart the phone.

Same here, I used to use this a lot using my phone with a wifi obd scanner, the scanner obviously doesn't connect to internet so having cell data with the wifi connection was great to be able to read codes for vehicles, it's been about a year or 2 since it quit working for me on anything android 11 and up
Same issue here on my Galaxy Tab A7. The intelligent Wi-Fi doesn’t even work. There is this app Speedify that works for free up to 2gb. It does channel bonding via a VPN but I would like for the basic features built into my OS to work also
