Find Out ORIGINAL Firmware - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

How would I find out what the original firmware was on the s8 plus, due to the no service message and me not being able to use the phone I have flashed all Different CSC files,,, either way it didn't work... I was sold a dud phone I suppose...

meaning no service as in? you put your sim card in and it does nothing? usually if the phone is carrier unlocked and you put your sim card in, a message will pop up saying to reboot your phone to get all the carriers features....click okay, the phone reboots and do a factory data/reset and you should be good to go. Installing CSC is carrier services. Did you try flashing all firmware? What model is it? G955U,G955W,G955F,G9550,ETC......? if you can boot into the UI go into settings/about phone/software version look if you see something like G955USQU1AQGL (bootloader 1 hence U1AQGL) or G955USQU2AQK2 (BOOTLOADER 2.... 2AQK2).

When I put the sim card it it allows me to pick Sim 1 or Sim 2... it finds the Carrier LYCA but underneath says unknown

You have an Exynos 8+? If so I'd re-flash the OEM software for your region. Or with a US version if it is the 'other' type 8+. Then you can more straight forwardly ensure you have the 'correct' OS and a proper regional CSC.
If you have a local carrier phone shop have them check your phone to ostensibly 'hook you up' with their carrier service, so they'd need to check/test the phone for active service ability first. Then I think/hope you'd know if the SIM/hardware were working, and rule out ditching the phone. Or a local phone repair shop, if any are around. It's just a check, so if you had to pay, it ought to be very cheap, given you have a clean phone with OEM OS.
I can feel the frustration in your experimenting.
As far as 'telling' what your original phone 'was', I'm not sure. I think when I flash over mine, if I flash all four Odin packages, it changes my phone from it's original G955 to a, with it's current ROM, a N950, based upon Phone Info, CSC Carrier, etc and what info they show me.
I'm not sure if there is an app that can read the hardware and tell you what 'version'/model (OS) your phone was set to originally. I am thinking no, at this point.
Maybe someone will stop by and let us know definitively.

Might have to take it to a phone repair shop and see what they say... I have already XSA Australian firmware on it I even tried the Telstra and Optus but it gives me same results... I'm thinking can it be because the sin tray is single sim with memory, I have purchased a tray with SIM 2 and sim 2 but still waiting for it... but I do t think that's going to make a difference

I don't think the sim tray will make a difference. It's the stock one that came with the phone?
I'm interested in what you find out. Please post up what you discover.

Everything works WiFi, videos music player just no service even flashing multiple csc files didn't do the trick strange I was told it was an overseas model from a phone shop when I took to get the frp lock off spent 100$ for nothing haha...
The sim tray is original but single sim not dual SIM scanning up this phone it comes up as G955FD

Could it be because Knox was tripped it says Knox warranty good 0×1 on the phoneinfo app

My Knox is tripped when I rooted the phone. Working fine on Cricket, though I have a new Cricket story...

I put it in safe mode but still no good, I have put it up for grabs on eBay I think I lost majority of my hair working on it haha

you should get something like

When I start the scan I get an error almost immediatly. The error reads: "Process is stopped. Phone does not answer." After that my phone turns off. Here is the log of what CDMA WS said:

Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!
Never came across the issue myself. But a quick Google search came up with THIS. Also it sounds like your either trying to Flash to a different Carrier, or already are on a different Carrier other than Sprint. What Rom are you on? What Carrier are you on? Was the phone working correctly before this incident? Did you try updating PRL / Profile?

The phone is for sprint and was running on sprint according to the seller. He said something about the MEID being zero'ed out but I had no idea what that meant when he told me. I want to fix the MEID and ESN back to the originals that came with my phone (the ones on the sticker). I tried getting sprint to help me but they denied to help me. I am using the stock 2.2 sense rom. The meid is zero'ed out but the ESN is not (the esn is still intact). What I am trying to do is zero out the ESN so that I can write to the meid. The only problem is that when I scan for the esn addresses my phone reboots and get the error I mentioned in the first post.
Here are the tools I have available:
qpst
qxdm
dfs 4.0.4
cdma 2.7

From what your mentioning it sounds like at some point the Device was set up as Pre-Paid. That would be one of the reasons to do what was done. Sprint will not help you because of liability on there part. So MEID does not match the one on the Box? Does it match the one on the back of Device itself under the Battery? What about when you check in MENU-Settings-About phone-Phone identity ? The reason I ask is because if these do not match it may difficult to activate the Device with Sprint.

The phone is an HTC Evo Shift. The meid reads all zero's (yes, 0). The meid does not match the one from the sticker behind the battery that contains the meid. When I check the phone identity menu, The MEID= the esn (the esn is intact).
You might want to verify if the Device is able to be activated on Sprint before you go any further? You can check the ESN with the free online ESN Checker HERE. If the ESN is good, then you can check THIS thread.

The ESN is good. Do you happen to know what the readable memory ranges are for the htc evo shift? That might save me some time. Thanks.

As u may see, at *#*#4636#*#*, UMTS actived, and all my sms, calls are working fine too, but GPRS was always "Disconnected". even when I insert another 3G sim from my friend, and of course I've tried my sim on others phone, 3g works fine. ThenI had try my old 2G sim card, it works fine too(both mobile data and sms), it feels like just 3G network has been isolated on my phone, no sent no received. I've set the "WCDMA only" or "WCDMA preferred", nothing changed.
I've factory reset or wipe everything or update to 4.4.2 or downgrade to 4.4.0 several times, nothing changed, won't get "3G" or "H+" next signal bar.
I've found somebody in China has these issue, I'm in China too
:crying::crying::crying::crying:
Model: LGD820 White 32GB(US)
That shows you are on China Unicom but do they support 2G only? When you switch to that (not using 4636, just normal Mobile Networks switcher) does it show up with EDGE connection?
Nope, no "E" icon appear too, but with my another old sim, "E" Edge works fine, I guess my new sim card could only access network through 3G
I got "China Unicom was upgrade their base station for 4G network build these days" from one of my friends works in China Unicom, so this was just the reason of lost of 3G. And these was not the only, LG G2 (Ver. HongKong) got the same issue in some city of Hunan China.
But as I know most phone(ver. US or UK or Pacific Asia) had no issue like this.
So is there anyone could offering me some advice to conquer this issue? About baseband? Anyway could lemme capture the signal or mobile data handshake packet or something like this?
i m also in Hunan China,and my D820 no 3G,similar with you.
me too in us
sprint 3g in US (richmond va) happens to me all the time, especially when im at work, and it seems to do it under heavy data load... twitter, facebook, etc

Has your friend said when this will be fixed? I am in Changsha, Hunan and I just got back here from the states two days ago. When I landed in Beijing...great data signals. The I landed back in Changsha...no data. Just my luck that I get pretty much the only phone that doesn't work in my city. Any help is appreciated. Thanks for this post to BTW since it seems everyone else is arguing with me. I just want to know when this will be returned back to normal in Hunan or any way to fix this issue?
In my Phone N5 3g is working very will..
As I known from several Chinese forum it has already been fixed in Changsha (by China unicom of course ), but I'm in zhuzhou (a city next to Changsha ). Here's some ways I discovered may works for u.
Turn the mobile data on/set apn of course, get in the phone information page through the info code (in case u dunno, dial *#*#4636#*#* at your dial pad page ). Switch the preferred network type to any type other than GSM only, let the signals lost, then switch back to GSM only, wait a while(10 sec). Did the E or G icons appeared next to your signal bars?
Yes? Congress dude, u found a working station, wait a while then switch back to WCDMA prefer or WCDMA only whatever u like. H or H+ would came out!!!!! And then walk around, now u can go anywhere u want.
If it's not came out then f*#king the station cuz it's just the one which "block" your phone (not your phone issue I promise, I bought the second Nexus 5 because I THOUGHT IT'S MY F#*KING PHONE WITH F*#KING ISSUES !!!!!!!!!!!!). Now go somewhere else and try again to find the "right " station.
PS: As long as u get online & never switch off the data then u could be online like 12 hours wherever u are (in service area of course )even roaming to "blocking station" till carrier reset u (regularly )
PSPS :I've found like 7 working station in zhuzhou, one of them was available to connected 17 floors above where I'm working. It sucks!!!
If u willing to chat pm me with your hangouts or something u wanna to say cuz it will notification on my phone
I fogot to click on reply u, lemme try again......... Type so much on phone was so damn hard working

Unable to Connect to Cellular Network

I have an issue with my Galaxy S7 (Verizon), such that it won't connect to the cellular network, and will only text via Wifi. It's almost like the cellular radio is dead, as the icon is grey with an "x", and it can't even make 911 calls. It worked fine for a few months though, and just one day began acting like this. There has been no physical damage to it.
Phone
------
Samsung Galaxy S7
SM-G930V
Android 7.0
Build NRD90M.G930VVRU4BQK4
Things I have tried
------
Made sure there are other Verizon phones nearby getting service
Rebooted phone multiple times
Reset network settings miltiple times
Factory reset phone
Checked IMEI: Clean
Ran the Verizon - Samsung Repair Assistant / Software Upgrade Assistant
Flashed the newest (and oldest) firmware from sammobile.com
Tested two different SIM cards in the phone, and tested those two in other phones (they work). Spoke to Verizon to activiate the SIM cards.
I'm really at a loss, and don't want to drop a few hundred dollars for another phone. Has anyone encountered something like this, or have any ideas? I'm happy to give more details about the phone and its software.
I also have this problem with my Verizon S7 G930V.
with baseband version: G930VVRS4BQI1
but it is reading signal strenght
It's frustrating because the phone was fine for months, and it's not like I dropped it or physically hurt the cell radio somehow. If a software update broke the connection, i was hoping all the resets and flashes I tried above would fix the issue, but to no avail.
Can you post a screenshot of your mobile data settings under setting>Mobile and networks.
And are you trying to call 911 with inserted sim card ?
And when you update to nougat the problem comes ?
Can't call 911 with or without SIM card in (the network icon is always greyed out.
I believe the problem is independent of my Android version. I flashed the most recent version of Marshmallow from sammobile.com and the issue remained.
I can't seem to post images yet, but In my settings, it shows no signal (-120dBm 99asu). I am unable to change network mode from global to anything else. (like LTE\CDMA). I suspect it is hard-coded that way in the firmware. That is all the information there besides access point names, which I am able to alter.

Take it to a phone repair shop.

How did you flash the oldest firmware from sammobile with the G930V?

I'm new to flashing, but I used the PrinceComsy Odin version and just loaded the appropriate files. It says the flash passed with no errors.
I did misspeak above though. I've tried various versions of Android 7, but was not successful with 6.

Reason to Root Fold 2

I have an unlocked Fold 2 from Samsung. I love the idea of rooting and having full access/control over a device I own, but it has been years since I rooted a phone. Recently my needs have changed and I find I am thinking about rooting again. Just curious if the below reasons are worth rooting and if rooting will even help or would I need to root and load a a custom rom?
1st I need to disable the 5g radio on my phone. I live and work in an area with poor 5g coverage, but have just enough that the phone can see it and try's to default to it and ends up providing far worse connectivity than the LTE that is steller in my area. AT&T is who I use and they have disabled this feature in their portion of the firmware. I can plug in a buddies T mobile sim and after reboot have access to the menu that allows me to pick LTE and my preferred connection type but not on AT&T.
2nd This is less of a concern as I have work arounds, but I would like to remove any and all carrier control of my device. In particular their ability to monitor and dictate how I use my data, i.e. wifi/BT/usb tethering. Like I said I have a work around but its fiddly.
3rd I would like to be able to run full weight cellular diagnostic tools on my phone as well as have full access to the USSD dialer codes.
Can these things be done after rooting and or loading a custom rom, in particular on the Fold 2? I have been searching for a bit, but can't seem to target my search to just this thread as I end up having to sort through a dozen other threads. I can work my way through rooting my phone and loading a rom, just curious which apps and or roms to look for once I have rooted. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Ok how about this. Can anybody point me to a location that can help me figure out how to removed carrier specific configurations once rooted? I want to disable my 5g radio on my fold 2. This is something that can be done when it has a T Mobile sim, but not an AT&T sim.

You should google harder dude
You could just Flash an international firmware of an un-carrier branded software, they can be found here - https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-z-fold-2-5g/firmware/#SM-F916B
Try this app - ESET USSD Control : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eset.securedialer&hl=en&gl=US
Disable 5G radio :
Settings -> Connections -> Mobile Networks : Change the network mode

Sorry about the googling... Could only find and confirm that it was locked on att phones. As I have an unlocked variant I was not sure why I was having that problem. Thanks for the tip on F916B I did not know I could load that on the F916U1, I will look more into that. But again I thought the F916U1 from Samsung was unbranded.
Thanks for the software link.

I have been an XDA Forums member for about 10 years and have enjoyed countless custom ROM on dozens of devices ... here is my opinion ...
In 2020 there is ZERO point in rooting a phone. Full stop. The end.
Edit: no point whilst the manufacturer is still providing software updates & support
Fair point... Is there a means by which I can manual control the radios in my phone without rooting? For example sending custom crafted AT commands to the radio to do things like IMSI masking, band switching, and most importantly band aggregation commands.

Everyone's mileage may vary but I stand by what is said ... For me, I see ZERO need to root on Samsung android 10 or 11
If you had asked me a few years back, what I would do with a brand new android phone out of the box and I would have said "root". I think the last phone I rooted was note 8, out of habit and that voided my warranty and I didn't gain anything in return... almost everything I used to do, can be done without root. Ad blocking via disconnect pro and netguard, to disable apps, use ccswe (as long as knox licence isn't revoked), youtube vanced to fine tune adfree youtube, naptime for putting device to quick deep sleeps, side actions to configure power button behaviour etc... these were probably the things I could have only achieved with root earlier.
I personally rooted my Samsung Fold 2 just so I can degoogle it. I cant stand big tech so for me it was worth doing

General Android 12 "RETAIL* ver

Notice Android 12 under the *RETAIL" folder. Link below. What is RETAIL? Who is is for. I'm guessing it's safe to try?
lolinet mirrors - firmware, software, iso etc.
lolinet mirrors - powered by h5ai

It means that Android 12 is already being gradually implemented for our Moto G100 XT-2125. Now it remains to wait for it to reach each specific model.

From what I can tell, there are literally only 2 iteration's of this phone, and even then, the hardware differences between the 2 phone has something to do with GPS, it is negligible. So, therefore IMHO, firmware should be fairly universal except for bloat - any thoughts?
Also, anyone specificlly know what "RETAIL" stands for? is there a specific region?

Update: I got the answer
RETAIL - boots as cninese - FYI and I am unable to change the boot language to english, so of no use to me
I installed it but 5g didn't work. It shows 4g+
Also, there's an option to disable the sim. But if you do so, couldn't find a way to reenable it other than taking it out and putting back again.
However, everything else seemed very good.
retail global version installed on my moto edge s 5G, chinese version, a chinese version A12 has not arrived yet, waiting to return to my stock rom

I'm from the United States my Moto g100 model number is xt2125-4 code name Nio and the firmware version I have is North American retail. The g100 version I have doesn't have any bloatware because the only way to get this phone is to buy it directly from Motorola USA. And that's what retail means it means you bought it directly from Motorola or the company and not a cell phone carrier. My model only has 8 gigs of RAM 128 gigs of memory has NFC a dedicated Google Assistant button and a fingerprint scanner on the side. Here in America it's kind of a unique phone. Because it's the only phone that's designed and sold on the American market that has a dual SIM tray. And you have the option instead of using a second SIM card I can put in an SD card

I'm from United States yeah retail means that you bought it directly from the manufacturer and not a cell phone carrier. So there's absolutely no bloatware
