The G5 isn't THAT old, geez.
Anyway, my V20 was doing this, and it was just a ****ed up battery, misreporting it's percentages.
You can also try to do the battery stats cleaners if you are rooted, but I don't know if those even work anymore.
What I would recommend, is let the battery die, then charge it with a 900mah charger.(Something from an older phone) and let it sit without touching it.
Sometimes letting it charge with the slower chargers helps get it back to life

thanks. I may try that. though i charge my batterIES in an external charger that I guess is standard speed. definitely not as fast as charging by phone itself

The battery being kaput isn't exactly true I don't think. I have 3 different batteries and without fail at 15% it will tell me the battery is dead and it will then proceed to shut down. No bettery saver, just a black screen. Phone has been doing this since I got it. Stock rom or custom doesn't matter. Not sure if this is the right place to post, I have a H850.

This is the third phone I've had it was just replaced about 3 months ago I should say third replacement... Gets really hot messes up here in there... Recently I updated with the new 8.0 software... Now my battery cuts out at about 24% like clockwork so I replaced it with a new factory battery bought a T-Mobile for too much money... And it does the exact same thing... The bloody unit used to be able to do maps I could text and do other stuff at the same time and it would last you know for a while now if I do maps and a couple of emails or mean or text it's dead within an hour dot-dot-dot all since I've gotten that new 8.0 software

Definitely get a new battery, I had 2 batteries for my phone and both were doing that, ordered a new one off Amazon and it drained all the way to 1%

I'll second this. My main battery did start to swell a little besides the sudden shutdown at 15%. I also know that this swelling can eventually cause the fingerprint sensor to malfunction. Beware. Anyhow, I decided to use the "almost dead" battery to game for long hours while charging (PUBG). My healthy new battery was used for normal usage besides gaming. Hope this helps!

It might be the Software, I dont have Pro yet but my s730 will go ! at 40% of battery life and warn me at 20% and go critical at 10%... I would assume your's is doing the same type of thing to keep you informed?

why would you want to do that?? i thought that with new lithium batteries it's better for them to charge them as much as possible, whenever possible. and AVOID them to go to 0. That could kill it, for good! Someone please, tell us if i'm wrong. These are not the oldschool batteris with "memory". So no reason to get it to reach zero for any reason, than destroying it. (it vould need kickstart after that)

Haha yes... Well, I constantly used it yesterday (obviously)... Always connected to wifi, always connected to Edge/3G (depending what was available)... Played teeter, talked on it, browsed the internet, listened to some of the music that's on it, it was being pushed hard... And it lasted like 6 hours. Not bad at all, and it gave me like a half an hour window after the battery went to (!) status.

Li-ion batteries do not suffer from the "Memory" issue as much as others, but they still do to some extent. The biggest issue with all Li-ion batteries is once its charged if you leave it on the charget you will burn it out and it will stop holding a charge.
Running it to near zero before charging wont hurt it, I have done it for almost a year on my s730 without issue and I charge it every few days due to use.
There are rumors that running it to full zero can hurt it and you should keep it charged since it wont hurt it memory / overcharge wise. I usually but not always drain my phone to 10 - 20% before charging to full and taking it off the charger once full. This way I can keep it charged and not worry too much about memory issues.
Ni-MH batteries really sufferd from the overcharge and a little from the memory, while Li-ions are supposed to not suffer from either I have (over retail experience) seen them suffer from both issues as well however it takes longer for the problems to crop up usually.
As long as you are carefull your battery should last a good long time.

I keep having the phone turn off when I unplug it from my charger or if I don't hold the cord the right way it powers off. Now I checked the cable and the phone, the connector is fine. The other problem is I check the power level and the battery is at 100% but the moment it's unplugged it powers off again. So I replaced the battery and checked the contact pins to the battery and it's both good also.....so I am not sure what the next step is?

Could be that the phone believes the battery is full when it's actually bone dry, and because it's disabled the charging, you're stuck whenever you aren't plugged in.

No, battery is good. I think the person above maybe right, if the battery is not charging because the phone is saying it's full when it's empty.

You should try to wipe youre battery with some app, just google it, ive seen much of them.

That is exactly the cause. On my stock battery, it got all puffy and I kept getting random reboots and extremely fast battery drains. It definately is the battery and you should get it replaced. Try out this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004KVTNYE/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00. Its really good

Thanks! That's kind of a relief, I thought it was a problem with the software. Hey would the battery you're suggesting need an extended cover to accommodate the size because I believe our native battery capacity is 1600 mAh.
Our native OEM battery came with 1650 mah. I recommend buying the same (just did in eBay for 8$) instead of some untrusted manufacturer sh$t.

I have had great results with the Epic 4G 1800 mah battery from Samsung. Fits with original back and works well.
I've encountered a major problem recently and it's my phone always shutting down at random times. It happened when flashing a JB Rom and ever since, my phone always would shut down at random times and when I turn it back on 50% of the battery would be drained. It gets really annoying and frustrating and now its even happening on my previous rom which was stable. Did my battery get screwed up? (I highly expect this). But I'm not sure yet.. did I flash the wrong way? (Eventhough, I'm pretty sure I took the safe steps to flash). Can anyone suggest a reason why this is happening?
Get a new battery, a lot of people's batteries have died and this is how it manifests.

Nope, they are a perfect fit. Same size as OEM. No new back needed.

Those are the same size as the stock battery. The just have ten percent more juice. I've been using one for a while now without any worries.
It seem like there is no way to buy a replacement battery for nexus 9 or the back cover. Is there any source for the purchasing？

At both sites the replacement battery is out of stock. My battery has started acting very strange (tablet totally turns off around 20%, then when i plug it in battery is 100% dead, needs 15 minutes charging just to start up again).
I did quite a bit of googling but didn't find anything.

The printing on the back looks different from my old battery - looks like this is indeed a new part, rather than a refurbished/replacement HTC battery. It fit perfectly, and charged fine. I just installed it yesterday, so I can't yet say how well it performs long term.

Many thanks! I was able to order a replacement battery and replace mine. After about a week of use, I have not seen any issues. :good: Only complaint I would have is the slow shipping.

So how did it turn out? My Nexus 9 is going to become sort of a lab rat for full-scale linux development on the device so I'm considering replacing the dying battery as well. I could get the aforementioned battery for around 30€. If the battery works without blowing up and is the advertised capacity, that is.

It worked well, fewer slowdowns and crashes. That may be in part also because I fixed the location of the copper plate/heat sink that had been placed under the original battery (leading the heat into the device) to where it was supposed to be. Some problems that may be more related to the chip/RAM/64bit choice persisted (browser is still super slow with just a few tabs open). Not using it much these days except for ebooks, Hoopla, etc. When I don't use it for a while, I turn of the Wifi and the charge holds for many days. Good luck with your Linux endeavors.

What I was trying to share is that the new battery (and its proper placement) fixed a couple of things for me that I hadn't expected to be related to the battery. So I got actually way more than just increased battery life. With some non-original batteries (e.g. for cameras) you see that the copies are definitely inferior to the original. This one was as good or better.
Of course that was two years ago - production standards may have changed, or you may get a battery that's been sitting around for the last two years (what would that do to a battery? - I have no idea). Mine's still working well after this time. I would definitely go for it, but I'd try to find a vendor where I can send it back if for some reason it's not working as advertised. I haven't heard of any of these batteries exploding, and really would not worry about it. Hope that helps.

I just installed the battery Neozen21 mentioned today. Went in without problems. It was 62% charged right out of the box, so I suspect it is fairly fresh.
It took much longer to charge than the old one did, so I have high hopes that the original capacity has been restored.

A fresh quality battery in these Galaxy tabs takes twice the time to charge the first time they are run straight out of the box. After that, the charge will settle to normal, especially if you charge/discharge properly as much as is possible.

All credit to Neozen21 if this turns out to be the real deal -- which leads me to the point: How is it working out? I find the best test of a decent twin cell solution (like the battery in the S 10.5) is to turn it off, charge to 100%, disconnect the charger and then see how much charge the battery reports if you power it on (or reconnect the charger) after 1 day. If it reports anything less than 99%, it's going to drain abnormally quickly.

It seems to be marginally better, although not dramatically so.
I've run AccuBattery Pro on the new battery, and it says that design capacity is 7900 mAh, estimated capacity is 7450 mAh. Unfortunately, I did not run the app on the old battery before replacing it, so I have no comparison.
I'm glad I didn't spend a lot of money on the battery...
