Slow s8+ graphics scores? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Hi I seem to be getting very low scores in 3d mark sling shot extreme on my new s8+. I get a scores of about 2600 and it tells me it's a low score for my device.
I have game mode on and max performance in the game launcher selected. No battery saving.
Physics I get great scores it's just the graphics that are low.
I'm I doing anything wrong?

Did you ever get an answer to this?
I know benchmarks are really not a real indication of real world performance, but I am seeing the same results in Slingshot Extreme and would like to know why there is such a discrepancy with what is reported as the average score by futuremark/3dmark.
I have tried it on every possible resolution setting, across all of the gaming mode profiles, with and without the game launcher to try to find the cause for the lower score, but have been unsuccessful.
My main concern is that the performance in gaming is in fact lower across the board, but not noticeable due to it not affecting current generation games FPS.
With Black Desert Mobile coming out in a week or so, I want to make sure that I can play it without issues.
Anyone who has any insight on this feel free to chime in. I suspect it is something that was changed in an OTA update, but I don't know where to start looking.
My device model is:
Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus (AT&T) [SM-G955U]
Snapdragon 835 (MSM8998)
The expected benchmark results are:
---Sling Shot Extreme---
Average score: 3414
Physics score: 2806
Graphics score: 3646
Graphics test 1: 22 FPS
Graphics test 2: 12 FPS
Physics test part 1: 49 FPS
Physics test part 2: 29 FPS
Physics test part 3: 16 FPS
My results:
---Sling Shot Extreme---
Average score: 2549
Physics score: 2733
Graphics score: 2501
Graphics test 1: 17.5 FPS
Graphics test 2: 7.9 FPS
Physics test part 1: 48.9 FPS
Physics test part 2: 28.3 FPS
Physics test part 3: 15.3 FPS
As stated by the OP, Physics scores are fine, but Graphics scores are pretty low.

I have the S8+ Exynos and i get the same score and the app tells me that my score is below average so I'm also confused

Hi,
I think that 3d mark doesn't make a difference in score between "unlimited" and "normal". That's why the score is "bad"

Run 3dmark with the default settings for it, without the "game mode" on. The continuous performance benefits from non-game in Samsung devices(past 6.0?). GPU % is reduced much more compared to CPU. Search SIOP_ARM_MAX, limitCPUFreq, limitGPUFreq in the logcat to check if it's this. Maybe it's to increase the life expectancy of various components (the battery at least), maybe it's because people sometimes complain about the heat, maybe it's to save power.

[Q] Is the Captivate FPS locked?

On Quadrant it sticks at 61 fps and jumps back down and on Quake 3 it will hit 63fps and then jitter between 54 to 56fps like its trying to go higher. So, is the Captivate FPS locked? As I know we have a more powerful GPU then the iPhone 4 and Droid X.
I'm pretty sure it isn't, just most things are designed nowadays to be run at about 60 FPS. TV is shot at 24 FPS and when shows are shot at 60 FPS, many people comment it looks fake (even though it's closer to how things look in real life, we're just conditioned to 24 FPS).
There's a whole debate/discussion in the HDTV world about refresh rates versus FPS and how each thing affects the other and yada yada. I don't truly follow or understand it because I don't notice much of a different.
I wouldn't be surprised if they capped it at 60 FPS, but you honestly couldn't NOTICE anything beyond that. 60 FPS would be the "target" for most of these benchmarks because that gives it the truest motion for the baseline render. So it may not be the Captivate's hardware that's locked, but the software it's running.
Does the game have vsync options? If the display is running at around 60fps then its possible the game or OS is designed to run max at the same to prevent graphical tearing.
Yes, it's locked at 56FPS. Limitation of the S-AMOLED refresh rate. It could probably go higher if it were LCD, but then it wouldn't look so nice.
56FPS is a lot, especially on a 4" screen.
Android or target UI is 60 fps stated by Google for all UI elements and scrolling etc. So I don't think Samsung is limiting fps, its just the OS doing its thing.

The game Star Blitz low performance

Hi
I have installed the new game star blitz. But i have very low fps. How about you?
Good preformance but game is very boring. Much better is GunBross.... this is the same game but space looks poor .
Well in my case game is laggy. It has not more than 15fps. Gun bros runs perfect...
Yup, it's not smooth, maybe 25fps. By the way the game is boooring.
Well anyway right now the game is not playable
try zoom to fit the screen (HC 3.2) if it's available, should boost your fps (in any games).
zoom is not aviable. Well it is bad optimilisation so we will have to wait for a patch
i dont understand how everyone always knows what their FPS are. are you guessing? or do you have an app that allows you to see your current FPS somewhere on your screen?
i know there are benchmark apps that show you your FPS in that benchmark but in specific games where people magically know they get 15 FPS, how do you see those numbers?
there is nothing to understand. Below 20 fps you can feel that the game is not smooth. I wrote 15 fps just as an example to show that the game is not smooth enough. I do not know maybe it is 16 or 18. Anyway it is not the way it should be.

Benchmarks?

Thinking of getting an O3D but I'm curious to see how the OMAP4 SoC stacks up against the Exynoz SoC. I'm not expecting O3D to outdo or even match the SGS2 but I'm hoping its close enough. With that said, can someone run the following benchmarks let me know the scores?
AnTuTu Benchmar
CF-Bench
GLbenchmark
Nenamark 2

the o3d has at the moment the most powerful prozessor. it's even fasten than the tegra 2 or the sgs2!
anyhow forget those benchmarkprograms... my last phone was the sgs and i tested a lot for custom roms.
my favourite for example was the darky rom. the benchmarks of the darky rom aren't so high as other roms but it was still smoother than other roms with higher benchmarks.
You should remember that people have been overclocking the sgs2 for a while now so there are people coming out qith ridiculous bench results way above the o3d from it just now as we have no overclocking yet. Stock benches show the o3d to be better hardware though and once we have better software we *should* have the better bench results to demonstrate that.

These are so old. The SGS2 (when released) was update in both firmware and drivers which brought a LOT of optimization. It has the most powerful processor. Anyways, I would think the O3D also got updated drivers when it was released so I'd like to know what it scores on the benches I previously asked for.

Yeah, I know the SGS2 is OC and the O3D isn't. I don't really care much about which is the best/fastest, I just wanna know how the O3D stacks up against it.
well i cant give you valid numbers because im not using the stock rom but it pretty much hasnt changed performance-wise since release. we are still using 2.2 and therefore still at 2.2 speeds.
I'm using stock rom - rooted only (no perf. pack 2x) and i have 2700-3000 p. of score. It's depending on how many apps i have installed and running in backround.
Still hoping someone can give me these...
optimus 3D best of the pda
Stock Rom, Root only, No Tweaks, No SetCPU related stuff, No Task Killers
If it means anything, 186 apps in the app drawer.
Tests are done after a reboot. I apologize in advance, I've never used these benchmark apps so I do not know which information to give.

Nenamark 2: Strange, I'm unable to run it. Well it starts up then has the buttons on the side. Pressing Run kinda shows it starting then it just closes. Sorry Can't help you on this one... I'll throw in a free Quadrant benchmark.
Quandrant Benchmark: Much faster compared to that GLBenchmark you wanted.
Score: 2574
I apologize once again, but I'm running these benchmarks on a very heavily loaded device. The results should be negatively influenced due to this. However, I also refuse to wipe my phone back to default for those tests, so I guess those are the results of a average daily use phone.
p.s. I see why people didn't want to run benchmarks now.
Wow, I can't believe you wrote all that for me. Next time, you should just take a screenshot of the scores but thanks.

graphics on sensation(gameloft games)

just want to clear things out,
can u guys check with me about graphic issues,
like in NOVA3, Batman: dark knight rises graphics are like low end phone! no dynamic lighting, no motion blur, all the reflection are gone
compare to GS2 and Gnote, my sensation is like running in very low graphics
Because in modern combat 3, our sensation runs smoothly with all the nice enhancements(motion blur..etc), this shows that our phone can handle it.
Is the problem lies with gameloft or our phone??
Mali-400MP vs adreno 220
this really piss me off paying for the game, but having a very low graphic especially our phone is on par with GS2
example :
http://forum.gameloft.com/index.php/topic,56753.0.html
No it's the way the apps are built. Some phones get the full effect, while others get the short end of the stick. I'm not sure how gameloft chooses which devices get all effects. You have to edit the game files to get better graphics, here is a example.. http://www.jayceooi.com/2012/07/05/how-to-enable-dead-trigger-tegra-3-extended-effects-on-non-tegra-3-device/

GT Racing 2: The Real Car Experience

It's out!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftRAHM
Good-bye Real Racing 3, maybe? We'll see
It's downloading to my Xperia Play as we speak, check this place for updates.
UPDATE: So, the game is XPO and shows in the launcher.
I have a mixed feeling about the performance though. You can pick one of the three settings : BEST VISUALS/BEST PERFORMANCE/OPTIMAL. The game defaulted to OPTIMAL but I was shocked how bad the frame rate was, so I changed to BEST PERFORMANCE but it's still not very good. But I am on stock ROM with no overclock so... They are trying to force this horrible free to play model down you throat, always bugging you to spend that precious green currency to upgrade you car and stuff like that .
As for visuals and the 'driving feel', Real Racing 3 is still the king, even without support for XP controls.
This game is not bad, but doesn't seem so addictive that I'd be investing countless hours into it like I've been with RR3.
Also, music is horrible but that's something I've got used to with Gameloft.
I'd recommend this game only if your device can play it fluently, as mine can't.
It looks so nice
Im actually playing Real Racing 3 so i'll try that alternative
It also have low framerate on ICS rom, even on perfomance settings (on stock speed, i didn't test it with overclock).
But it's XPO, touchpads also work. Not so memory-hungry as real racing 3, so it should work on heavy ics/jb roms.

Where is the settings for graphics? I'm on GB (Gin2Kittkat) and there is nothing to set, so the framerate is terrible even with OC to 1,4GHz (my XP can't get higher cause freezing). I downloaded this game yesterday, must set controls to wheel+pedals (XP controller didn't show up) otherwise there was damn auto accel. It looks funny but unplayable on Xperia Play.
Using RAM Manager Pro at Hard Gaming somehow helps with the framerates. Running debloated Gin2JB v2.5.2, stock kernel.
Frame rate is atrocious on this game when other cars are on the screen, even on best performance.
I'll try it at 2.3ghz later when I reinstall extreme kernel! It runs smooth on max settings on my jxd so it cant be massively demanding!

Indeed. When on the lead, meaning no other cars on the screen, it runs fine. Also, lags are noticeable in areas where there are many buildings.
Dang, what's the point in making it XP controls-optimized but not ancient-chip-optimized? Oh, GL...

You can choose Best perfomance or Best graphics.. just that
I set the game on Best Perfomance on Gin2KitKat (1.2Ghz OC) and its unplayable!
