I've got Google Wallet installed, and cards activated, but I can't seem to make it actually pay...
A couple of trips to the local McDonalds - waking up my phone and waving it over the red sensor part of their card reader does nothing... unlocking or having wallet open at the time doesn't help either.
What am I doing wrong?

Does your phone beep to let you know the nfc receiver has picked up an rfid signal?

Did you have the NFC box check under settings more settings. It allows information to be sent between NFC device which is necessary.

No response at all from my phone or the terminal. Might as well have been waving my hand over it.
Does the phone need a physical "bump" instead of a wave to do its thing? I would expect this to work much the same as my proximity company ID badge.
NFC is turned on. SBeam is off (does that matter?)

I always touch my phone back to the spot on the card reader. Do you have a case on your phone? There is only like a half inch of play before the phone is too far away. Try it again by tapping the phone.

yeah. i get embarrass too if wallet doesnt work. how embarrassing!
but they have nfc soda vending machines in Atlantis hotel casino in reno! i tried it there with wallet on my nexus without the embarrassment and it works!

"waving it over the red sensor part"
You dont know what your doing if you "waved" it. You must hold it up to the scanner for it to recognize. Also, if you have a case, it takes longer to pick up because the case adds thickness which reduces the bandwidth NFC can utilize due to a weaker signal.
Experiences: 8 successful payments. 1 failed (Walgreens isnt there yet)
There is no red sensor where I used it. 7-11 and cumbys. It's the grey part above the debit/credit card scanner that has the nfc symbol....Walgreen's failed for me also the manager said they just recently installed.

I've had the same exact problem as the OP. I tried mine at a local gas station where a friend works so I didn't look like a complete dunderhead and I tried it on 6 separate occasions and tried installing it several different times/ways and could never get it to work. They have the EZ Pay NFC reader above the credit card machine and every time I tried it it would not work no matter if I tapped it, took it out of the TPU case, got the cashier to hit credit, opened and unlocked the app. Nothing. It just simply refused to work. Maybe I'm just an idiot though, I just assume the EZ Pay NFC card reader would read my NFC chip in my phone. Maybe it won't. I am just at a loss. I just reset the app and went to my backup nandroid and left it along after all the attempts because I was so embarrassed.
i've only used it once thus far, i was worried it wouldn't work right since i never used NFC payments before so i had no idea how to do it......it took about 15 secs for GW to open up from a locked status on my phone then about another 20 secs for it to recognize the nfc scanner and to process a payment to mcdonalds, not bad, i had my card out in preparation though lol
Try without a case.I had no comm using NFC due to my case blocking the signal somehow. took it off and now it works every time.

I had thought that maybe it would take a bit for GW to notice the NFC reader but i left it there for a full 5 minutes at one point, I was running my mouth, and it never pulled up GW nor recognized the NFC reader. Also this was with the phone off. Another thing I found funny about it was that it the app would not pull up as Ready to Use until I had let it set up my Play Store credit card they have on file. I dont know if the OP is having the same exact problem as I am but it sounds exactly the same. I have also tested my NFC with my girlfriends GS3 to see if maybe I recieved a bad battery or maybe my phone was somehow faulty but it pulled the fileshare using S-Beam off without a hitch so.....

My phone wasn't off, just locked. If the phone's off then the nfc reader is supposed to be off too. I found that just quickly opening GW right before touching it to the reader makes it happen almost instantly. At least for me already.
Beamed via NFC through the local store to the internet from my SGS3.

Sorry about the misunderstanding. When I said off o meant my screen was locked. My phone just edited that part out. I have tried it like you did also, by opening the app right before touching it to the reader. Still doesn't work. It may just be an issue with my phone. No matter how I try to use it to pay it won't work...
i've had no issues having my nfc chip being scanned but i have yet to complete a purchase successfully. i'm going to chalk it up to the terminals not being configured correctly... my other nfc functions work fine.
Some dont work for some odd reasons because the storemanager/higher ups dont know what it is so they might have disabled it for what ever reason.
I know Walgreens has scanners but does not work JUST yet, they are partners of the whole NFC movement thing.
Stores that have worked for me are.
Chevron, 7-11 ( had to tilt there scanner up), McDonalds, BJ's (like walmart), Vending Machines.
Doesnt work: Walgreens, Some Random gas station out of town
I find that if you see a LED blinking or on thats connected to the scanner, the scanner works, but if it doesnt scan right away its the case's fault or not placing it.
Source: I like to consider myself a Wallet expert haha, my thread is over in Developer Section to get wallet as well. Also all my purchases have been used using a Otterbox Defender, and take about 3-5 seconds to complete the transaction.
mine failed as well at a jack in the box drive thru. looked like a fool. haha
i took my case off, opened the app, clicked the lock in the corner, entered my pin, and held it up against the reader for a good few seconds but nothing happened. nfc was on. their reader had like 4 spots for lights and the first one was on with a solid green light so not sure, hopefully it was their reader. will try again at a 7-11 if I can get over the embarassment
LOL at you guys thinking your case is giving you a problem, most likely you are not putting the battery (where the NFC is) up to the correct part of the terminal (your phone should chime or make a noise when its recognized, just like when Android Beam comes up),
or just plain out the terminal doesn't work (not your phone), a mcdonalds and wendys in my area they have them but nothing happens and one mcd across town works perfectly fine. Just depends on the vendor.
I have the Otterbox Defender on both my S3 and Galaxy Nexus, and haven't had a problem or delay yet as long as their terminal is working correctly, and they are pretty thick cases. As long as you line it up right and they work shouldn't be a problem

Well said and 100% accurate. I bet the problems people are facing are user error or the terminal just doesnt work.
I've used mine on about three different occasions and it worked perfectly. But what's funny, I was in a local vzw store buying something. They have what looks like the press pass set up, tried to use it and it wouldn't go through. The girl checking me out was surprised and had no idea that you could even do that. Anyway, my point is that even though the card reader looks like it will work, if they don't have it set up it won't. Vzw's looks just like the ones at McDonald's.
Hello,
I set up my gear s3 classic. Set up my Samsung pay on my axon 7 everything works up until the point I tried to pay with my watch. Selected my credit card and placed my watch near the magnetic reader and it didn't work for me. Tried it at Costco, target and teavana. Confused at why this isn't working. The instructions look so simple. Could anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
You need to put it right where the card reader is located. I have noticed that it doesn't seem to work as well as the phone's MST does but it does work. Some readers don't work where I live either, Lowe's for example, but the majority of other places works just fine.
Does it happen instantly or it takes a few seconds for the terminal to register?
Works pretty much 99.9% of the time... you get better with practice...been using it on the S7 Edge for months
It can take a few seconds, and that's probably why they have it broadcast for 30 seconds as opposed to the phone only doing it for 15. I hold mine as close to the reader as possible and wait until the card reader responds.
Just tried it again and it didn't work getting frustrated as it should be easy from the videos
Once you put it into pay mode hold it right next to the swipe slot on most swipe pads, some pads actually have a touch spot. You should feel your watch vibrating and you can usually hear a beep from the pad when it recognizes the watch. When I use my debit card loaded on Samsung Pay, I sometimes get cued to put in my PIN and other times it just processes.
I have been in my local grocery store. It worked at the Starbucks inside the store, it worked at the self checkout, it did not work at the regular lane with a cashier. So, it is not always going to work in every store, or even at every type of checkout area.
Also sometimes the Samsung Pay app recognizes that I used Samsung Pay and it shows in my history. Sometimes Samsung Pay works, but I get no indication in my history that it worked. I have had about a 90% success rate with it working at different retailers.
keep trying with no luck my watch keeps counting down but no payment is made, could i have a faulty unit? or maybe i am not doing it right. should i be moving the watch by the terminal like i am swiping it? I did pay using nfc today which was pretty cool.
still no luck. timer counts down with no payment. feel like an idiot standing there.
How many places have you attempted to pay via MST? My go-to is MST since most card readers don't have NFC where I live. I know that when I start Samsung Pay that if I put it up to my ear I can hear it making noise internally. Try starting the app and telling it to pay and put it up to your ear to see if it makes noise, if it does then I would attempt the MST payment elsewhere.
Just tried it and I just hear the watch vibrating.
Attempt it at a different place and see if it happens to work. I have about 3 places locally to where I live that it doesn't work at all, and the rest work flawlessly. Also, try holding the watch face directly towards the middle of the swiper. Some places like gas pumps don't actually look for a card at all times and require a physical card inserted for it to start looking for the magnetic data. Could be possible in your situation.
I have an S3 classic - it worked when I first bought the watch - then for some odd reason, it stopped working. I can prove this because my wife's S3 Frontier works flawlessly RIGHT AFTER my 30 seconds of standing there with my S3 classic against the card reader stripe no matter far or near, up or down, it fails and I look like a complete idiot' but her s3 frontier just works instantly.
BUT if i got to a place that supports NFC payment, i can use the Gear S3 classic instantly and it works flawlessly - just the MST doesn't work.
Just thought I'd toss this question out to all the Pixel owners, anyone just using their Pixel straightup stock ? I'm not sure if it's been bc I've been modding for 3+ years or this is my 3rd device which I can actually customize (other 2 were Nexus and still work), but the Pixel right now I've just loaded a custom kernel and rooted the stock image. I really use CF Lumen and it works best with root. I did try stock kernel, but it's not as good as Elemental X. Barring those 2, I feel like I'm at the point where the stock is ok.......either that or I've flashed too much haha :highfive:
I've been flashing since my Eris was OC to 750. Modded the heck out of my 5x with almost every rom and kernel.
I have not done anything to this device. I got the Verizon model in November and had the chance to depixel8. I decided to skip it and stay locked and I've not looked back. Not that I have much of a choice now anyway.
I take the OTA when it arrives reboot and done. The device is quick responsive, no random reboots, no mic problems, or shutdown issues. Perhaps I'm lucky but nonetheless I very rarely plug in during the day. Once I got down to 15% battery but only once. I get about 30 hours uptime according to stats. I don't bother with sot because I use the phone a lot and that is more draining for me.
I have my banking app, AP, pics, and some sensitive data that I feel safe with, relatively, with my locked bootloader. I still mess around with my 5x however. I flashed O build, relocked it, played around and unlocked again to flash back to stock. It keeps me from total withdrawal.

The Nexus 5x is a nice little device. I also got mine modded and I am probably only one of the few that likes the build. I personally like that plastic. Durable and lightweight. Plus if it saves costs that's good as well, but I like the plastic types. I used the 5x to still mod and every now and then I'll switch phones and use it as a regular, but the Pixel runs pretty smooth I'll give Google credit. I don't care for the look of the phone, but it operates very well with no lag and I guess b/c I know I can mod my 5x I don't have as much of a need to mod the Pixel. I wondered if I was the only one. LOL
idgaf about the look of the phone. i have a speck grip case and its stealth black all the way.
I used to flash a lot on all my previous devices, but now I use the Pixel stock and I am completely satisfied.

I'm with you there. Honestly. When I did root/kernel/rom my pixel. I felt the strong urge to return it to stock for ease of updates and to ensure stability. So I did. And I've not ever used a stock phone since the G1.... Just don't need to mod anymore, personally.
I went though rooting etc with most of my previous phones gong way back and even with my last phone the Nexus 5X but eventually returned it to stock after I found Adguard and no longer needed root for ad blocking.
When I got my Pixel I didn't even think about it, while it was the Verizon version I had the chance to root it but didn't bother.
Phone just plain works without any mods, OTA'S are simple and all banking, android pay work without having to screw with it.
Phone is secure, fast and just plain works
Quite content.

Ok decided to be submissive and restore back to stock and lock my bootloader. I've never used android pay in all 3 phones I've had lol. Feels weird.....
On the flip side at least my sh-t is working lol. The android auto was having issues connecting with my car on a custom rom. Standard ROM, no issues.
stock version is good enough and I didn't find any need to alter it.
I'm using mine stock but considering selling it or rooting it (Knowing me i'll cave and get a S8+ and sell it even though my gut is saying no). I am very picky but I really want to love my Pixel.
Anyway the issues that are annoying me are :
1. Mobile data doesn't always work on the play store, it just says I have no connection even though Chrome and Deezer and other apps use data fine, it is also intermittent and works on and off. If it stops working I have to reboot the phone.
2. I would like to be able to put the phone back to sleep with the finger print sensor as the power button is too high up for my tastes.
3. Texts and Emails do not come through during a call forcing me to miss important notifications, and they flood in once I put the phone down... not cool.
4. Apps constantly reload and refresh even though I have 1.3 to 1.7gb ram left over, even messages and phone etc.
(Of course this is the same in all android phones but thought Google might have this one sorted)
5. Google photos shows some grey tiles which look like blank photos but there aren't any there, and the app also freezes when deleting photos. If I reboot the grey tiles (ghost photos) disappear.
These things are driving me to distraction but I am loathe to root if custom roms don't fix them.
I have not factory reset as the phone is generally fast and I do not believe it will do anything but be a lesson in frustration.
P.S. I do love the Camera and the small form factor of the phone as well as the screen. I am also loving cardboard camera and all the VR side of things, just to put a more positive spin on things.

I find the phone runs really smooth. The system does not lag like the Nexuses before this is a huge thing for me. I'm surprised you have had some stuttering. The S8 what I don't like is everything keeps getting larger. For women who use purses I find this to be less of an issue, but jamming a 5.5"+ phone in the pocket I got tired of doing that. I purposely got the 5x and pixel for the smaller size....and customization. I hope the jumbo phones eventually cap off or there are smaller alternatives available. If I need large screen size I'll get on a computer, but pocketing a 6" phone is cumbersome.
I know someone with the S7 and the camera on that is really good. From all the mfgs, I really only think Samsung can effectively bring to the table something to compete with Apple. LG, HTC and even the Pixel are fringe phones, but I'm even realistic that the Pixel isn't an "iphone killer" although I do love it a lot myself.

Do you have a subscription for Adguard ? Is it the VPN blocking type of thing ?
So far everything is working well. The only thing I miss a lot with root is CF lumen. The non-root CF lumen overlay looks horrible. I just use nightlight which is OK. Also adblocking. I tried one program earlier but it did not work as well as adaway. Still looking for a non root ad blocker.
Been rooting my phone since G1 and I have yet to find a real reason to root this device. I'm actually satisfied with stock, besides not having a true ad blocker I can't complain.

I'm using adguard and I noticed the ads in chrome are being blocked, but the ads in youtube are showing ? I have the HTTPS cert installed.
Also what's your experience been with battery life having the VPN constantly on ?
Me. I did contemplate rooting because hate ads, but I love Android Pay. And I'm getting very lazy to constantly keep up to date with all the different custom ROMs and mods. These days, I just let OTAs do the job.

I don't see ads on YouTube since I have YouTube Red (via Google Music family plan I have). I still see the stupid info banners but that is from the same data feed that the videos come from.
Its not perfect, but certainly cuts out most of the stupidity that shows up not only in the browser but also in most of the apps which still provide advertising even if you have a paid version.
A few apps are white listed as they don't work with it. I can either turn it off for a moment to access that app or just add them to the white list.
Examples: Alexa, Kasa and WeMo.
As for battery life, I get great battery life. I have WiFi turned on most of the time when I am at home and work, but don't use it normally when out and about.
SO lets start out with something I originally wrote on FB back on the 3rd June
--
Ok so it's time to jot down some feedback on my first weekend with the Gemini but first lets run through what I've got here altogether.
First up there's my works laptop.
Then there's my own laptop which is permanently connected to the living room TV via HDMI.
I have an iPad that gets used as a general web browsing device around the house.
My phone is a dual SIM Motorola G4+ used for both by personal & work SIMs (supplied by work)
So where have I found the Gemini fitting in?
Well mostly I've been using it as a replacement for the iPad, particularly liking using split screens in the horizontal layout.
I've also installed all the MS apps so I can connect to my works mails etc (we're on Office 365) and that all seems to be working nicely as well.
What I haven't really been using it for is phone calls and TBH I'm not sure I will. I have my personal SIM in here (which is my least used one) primarily so I can use it online whilst away from WiFi. Not particularly interested in pairing with a smart watch as I can't stand wearing a watch full stop (yes I know I'm odd).
Overall I'm very impressed with the speed and responsiveness of the Gemini and haven't even particularly noticed any of the reported problems with the space bar (that could be because I'm very much a 2 finger typist lol). Yes there are one or two characters you have to think about which key combo to press but the keyboard is very well marked and I find it very intuitive to use.
Battery life seems reasonable given the amount of time the screen is on and a full charge has been seeing me right through the day up until bedtime. Be interesting to see how it is on the odd day I have to go into the office (I predominantly work from home)
Tried the adaptive brightness but it annoyed me as it was very visibly hunting and simply adjust manually to suit(now I've learnt to be patient with the FN combo).
Running an RDP session to a remote computer is so much easier with the aid of a BT mouse and I like that I can if I choose output to the telly.
Would I recommend the Gemini? You bet your sweet bippy I would, just not as a phone replacement
--
So has anything really chnaged since then?
No not really and I would still recommend the Little Gem even though there have been a few SNAFUs/Gotchas.
The biggest of these was probably the first OTA update causing a bootloop but that was easily rectified by reflashing using the files/info supplied at Planet Computers.
Annoyingly although the external Silver Button worked pretty consistently originally since the latest OTA upgrade I've had nothing but problems with it using the default Google Assistant. I've since switched it to link to Saiy and that seems far more reliable.
I've been suffering a few random reboots but I'm 99% certain thats down to InTune (Im using this for work as a BYOD and there are policies enforced on the MS apps) throwing a hissy fit on trying to enforce enryption which you can't do on the Gemini.
One slightly annoying thing is I noticed the cover was not fitting quite as snugly as I liked after inserting the sim &(200gb) SD card, that's been easily resolved with a couple of tiny dobs of white tack (blue is also available)
The only other minor irritation is that it doesn't appear any of the carriers in the UK are set up to provide service via eSim yet other than to Apple Smartwatch (& possibly Samsung Gear)
Received the New Edge Friday and I am happy to say the Edge is working as it should!
-No screen flares
-Setup worked flawlessly
-Wifi Calling works!
Basically the phone works as it should. I am extremely happy with this phone. It is what I was hoping the Edge would be. If new issues arise, I will post here. Thank to XDA for holding my hand during this fiasco, haha.
... a few perplexing things on Moto's part.
-Buggy out of box -
OS must have froze/shutdown several times trying to do normal setup
-Case provided falls off phone-
Case way to large to fit on phone. Basically useless. Falls off if you go to grab phone by case. More dangerous than not having one at all
-Finger zoom-
For some reason I cannot zoom on normal pictures, text, ect. Very odd. I have an LG, several Motos and a XIOAMI phones next to me where I am able to zoom in apps, web pages where the Edge I cannot. I don't understand this at all
-NO OPTION ANYWHERE FOR WIFI CALLING- This may be the dealbreaker. I have LOTS of android phones including about five Motos (going back to G4) and they all at least have the option for Wifi calling (depends on carrier if it actually works) but the Edge does NOT even have it as an option. WHY MOTO, WHY???
If anyone is having these issues and it's human error - PLEASE LET ME KNOW, lol.

Mine works fine out of box (30.114-23)
You way want to run LMSA rescue mode to reinstall ROM and wipe once.
I have mine rooted few hours after trial.
VoLTE works right away with T-Mobile

Just spent some time on phone with Moto support and all they can say is "look for wifi calling in settings". Basically NO help.

Oh
Their Wi-Fi Calling is restrictive. You have to call the carrier to provision.
T-Mobile is pretty liberal. All you need is just put SIM in and it's done
I boxed it up and sent it back today. The back cameras are mediocre but the selfie camera was pretty terrible. For some reason when using the selfie camera my entire skin tone would randomly appear an orangy/yellow color. It was crazy. It happened pretty often. I watched a few youtube reviews of the Edge and one of them noted the exact same phenomena. Based on Motorola's reputation for updates, I decided to send it back. I have a $250 Xiaomi Note 9S that takes way better pictures than this thing.
In addition, I used it on T-Mobile and wifi calling worked out of the box.

... a few perplexing things on Moto's part.
