Love this tablet but this last few days it has started to get really warm on occasion.
On the left side, about an inch in from the SD card slot, the temperature really builds up quickly starting first on the back of the device and eventually getting so hot on the glass it becomes uncomfortable to hold and to swipe. I've seen 48 degrees!
I have noticed this happening when using Dolphin HD browser and particularly if Skype is running in the background.
I wiped the tab, didn't reinstall from market and just loaded Dolphin and it didn't make any difference.
I'm guessing faulty device since there are only a few isolated reports of this online.

Really strange, Phil. Based on your recommendation in "other" forums I turned in my Nook Tab and got a GTab7Plus and I'm just lovin it. Does everything I'd hoped it would do and more I haven't even figured out. So far, (knock on wood) I haven't gotten the Screen of Death nor has the unit gotten hot for any reason and I'm using dolphin browser exclusively. So......you may have a defective unit. Good luck.
Yeah, I think it was faulty. I took it back to Best Buy and they had not had any other returns for this issue.
Unfortunately they are also out of stock so I don't currently have a tablet at all! Seeing what is coming down the pike in the way of tablets I might just wait and see what transpires in the next 3 months. If I get antsy then I'll just pick up another GT7+ (or back to a Nook Tablet if the CM9 project advances quickly).
Also, do you see a color cast on yours at all? I noticed that when there was a white background, for instance reading a book on Kindle or Nook apps, the right lower side of the page had a warm tinge - pink/peach colored. It was quite irritating.
Having issues with Nook app opening my Nook ebooks.

FloridaPhil:
I have received my 7+ and downloaded and installed the Nook and Kindle apps without a hitch. The Kindle books are fine but I seem to be having a problem opening my Nook books. Darn, I am in the midst of a great book and hate reading on my phone.
Any tips on how best to install and manage my Nook ebooks? And, I have a 32gb sd card which I haven't installed but plan to tonight. Will that make a difference? Should I "format" the card before installing on the 7+? How does that work?
Thanks a bunch!
I noticed on the nook software that I needed to open the software and then reopen it before the book would load. Second time is a charm I guess.

Mine as well, in the same location as you specified too. Gets damn hot in that location with I'm using it in the car for navigating with Google Maps and it's plugged into the charger. Also in the same scenario the charge level is still going down and not up
I' ve been using VTL Launcher and had some previous issues with my home wifi (couldn't reconnect so my tab was always trying to find it again and again). After resetting router and mainly uninstalling VTL Launcher my tab stopped to be hot and battery life increased rapidly. So I was almost decided tonreturn it due to this problems but since then everything is finally ok and start to enjoy this tab (previously had GT7 original and Note).
Regarding navigation with google maps- consider that there is also huge use of data amount so warmness is probable. I'm using Sygis Aura and has no problems with hottness and also not original car charger has enough power to charge on the roads.
So far haven't noticed the tab getting hot. Just trying to figure out how to use Kies. What a friggin nightmare! Why have they not simplified the Kies interface? It is so convoluted!

Interesting - but mine was totally stock. Yeah, I had added a ton of apps but it was running regular TouchWizz. My little Nook Color running CM7 has exactly the same apps and doesn't even get warm.
what are you using kies for? my computer (win 7) didn't recognize my tab until
i installed kies, it also installed drivers so i can now transfer files
To FloridaPhil: And how long is your battery life? Is wifi ok? Well I' ve noticed then, that our tab doesn't have still very apropriate task managing and this can be causeb exactly by this. Take a look in settings, applications and battery use...I couldn't believa my eyes but even I'm using good task manager with automatic shutndowns of slected apps, there are still huge amount of running apps that drain battery and may cause getting hot. Next thing as well was a fact, that even when wifi connection held perfectly, there was still word 'searching' each couple of seconds (take a look in wifinsettings...)- so next possible reason for getting warm...

It's only searching because your at the wifi settings screen. If you are at the screen where different wifi networks can be selected, android (logically) thinks you might want to select a different network, so scans. If you STAY on that screen, it assumes you want to keep scanning (why else would you stay on that screen?)
This is something that all wifi enabled android devices do. It's NOT scanning every few seconds if you aren't on that specific settings screen...
Gary
Thanks Gary for reasonable explanation, yes this is logical. I was just confused from this, cause not Galaxy Note, nor previous Tab or Streak was behaving like this. But is true that this is my first honeycomb machine and I may not realise this before or it had been different in settings.

My Galaxy SII (gingerbread, AT&T, SGH-I777) does this as well. Even my iPhone does it.
I'm using Kies Air to wirelessly transfer and synch my contacts, calendar, etc....... Experimented and have transferred photos and some other files. Also worked using the USB cable and my Windows 7 recognized and installed drivers. It recognized the SD card as my E drive.
Regarding the heating up issue, so far I have not experienced this. The battery use is under control when I turn off all wireless when I leave my home.
Getting used to the Touchwiz interface but I also installed Go Launcher EX and use that sometimes.
Video playback is awesome on this little tab; last night I was watching movie trailers and was surprised with the sound as well. The Nook's sound was always a bit weak.
I installed an anti-glare screen film and it is awesome for reading. Doesn't detract from the beautiful display and the fonts are crisp.
Regarding opening my Nook books I realized that it worked as soon as I installed my SD card and I downloaded my books so I wouldn't have to deal with having a wireless connection to read my books.
Playing around with the wallpapers and customizing the Samsung screens and installed a super cool "steam punk skull" live wallpaper and it is amazing! Found it free via the Amazon app store....it is fantastic! I also found other beautiful live wallpapers via the Amazon app store including snow scenes.
The tab connected flawlessly to my Samsung Galaxy 4G T-Mobile phone's access point and used that to stream Pandora and download some Kindle books. It was done in my office which doesn't have the best T-Mobile network access and it was surprisingly fast and smooth. No stuttering of the music and emails and Facebook worked great.
I ordered the 6' long usb cable for the tab via Amazon and it has shipped; hopefully it is well matched and charges up the tab just as well as the stock 3' shortie cable. I noted other comments regarding the slow charging of the tab and found that turning off the wifi or simply shutting it down speeds up the charging dramatically.
So that is my report so far and let me say I am enjoying the 7+ tab immensely.

Well i guess thats pretty normal, mine goes up to 42C sometimes.. I guess it depends on your surrounding and climate.
You sure it's a normal thing (this temperature range)? I'm here in Thailand so the ambient temperature is hot to begin with, but the thing is; with prolonged used my hands get uncomfortable.

Just told my wife, she said her galaxy s2 gets hot as well, so I asked her to touch mine ;-)
She says it's about the same. So i really don't know what to think any more, but I'll take it in anyways just for peace of mind.
Just having a look on my phone and I relise that all the things I use and rely on are available on my previous Symbian Nokia E71 and that in fact if I still had my E55 I'd be able to almost everything I do now but with 5 days battery life for camping trips instead of 1.
The Nokia E71 was released in 2008. We're now looking to 2013. This makes me want to take stock and say are we really achieving anything with smartphones these days?
Yes, there is massive improvement in an entertainment way and to be honest it's the tweaking and hacking that I love...
and indeed they are getting easier to use...
But my E55 used to be readable in bright sunlight, had global maps coverage, no wakelock problems and loads more battery life. I don't think any of that is possible with a Galaxy Note?
When I look at my frequently used, useful apps I see the following that is available on Symbian:
- VoIP via Fring
- Opera Mini... that fills in many gaps for the lack of apps
- various encryption apps, but... is this with a better security model than permissions that have been broken and sdcards that can be read?
- Gmail
- Global sat nav maps precachable
The only thing don't see that I use regularly is the HDRCam app but do I really need amazing photos?
What about you? Do you find the ebay or Eggdrop apps essential? What about QR codes?
Could you go back to a Nokia E71?
The best features of S60 was battery life I have a 6120c and I had a E72 both phones last 2 - 3 days easily and Copy/paste text Remember iOS before 2009?
What would stop me more from going back to these phones is that non touch devices blow at browsing the web, and also the fact that on Symbian you can't turn 3g connection off, which will most likely kill your battery if you have something like whatsapp installed. I could even be fine with everything else, looking at how I use my phone right now. You're kinda right, most of the mobile innovations of the latest years actually have to do more with entertainment than with anything else. Basic functions actually got better but there's actually nothing spectacular going on with that, apart from internet speeds being bumped up.

You can change 3G only to dual mode or 2G only in settings -> phone -> network or something like that.
I have an E71 that I got for testing purposes with our mail system. The stock interface is awful compared to the latest smartphones.
That said, I took it when travelling internationally last year. As a phone and a device to get mail, it worked fantastic. It easily kept a charge all day long, often through 12+ hour work days.
I'm not going to use it as my everyday phone, but I am going to keep this bad boy and use it when I travel or when I what i need most is a phone that will stay charged longer.
I used to own an e71...until someone stole it while I was sleeping by my bedside. Lol. Easiest robbery ever I think.
Anyway...yeah it was a very good handset for its time. Loved it to bits. Battery was very good and the keyboard was a particular favorite. Last phone I had with any physical keyboard actually.
I could not see myself go back to it however. Just be a big step backwards in terms of apps and general performance. Everything except for battery life is so much better on the modern smart phones of nowadays.

Not exactly the same but: I miss my e90 :-( It was the best phone ever! I just wish it had US 3G. No other phone keyboard I have ever used measured up to that phone... I wonder if I could use it as a bluetooth keyboard....
Well, I have been forced into going back to my E71 while my Galaxy SII is under going warranty repair (it refused to connect to the mobile network one day after running it's battery flat).
What I miss most is my calendar syncing, and a decent imap email client that doesn't bomb when you have a few emails in the inbox. As others have said the smartphones are way better for web browsing. The E71's user interface seems just awkward and somewhat counter intuitive. I actually like the physical keyboard better then the touch screen keyboard (doesn't take up screen real estate) but accessing the extended maps is a bit of a pain. I reacon the shift key is in the wrong place and should be in the bottom outside corner as it's used more. But then it's only been a few days and I'll no doubt get used to it again.
I'd really love to make it run android and might give it a crack once I've got my SGSII back.
yeah I could. I have a Nokia e5 as a back up and it does all of the essentials and is way better to type on than my current touch screen phone is. I would miss the syncing abilities of android, and the entertainment possibilities of the nice big screen.... and apps...but I'd definitely survive.
I still can a spare copy of my sim that goes in my Nokia E71 as I use it all the time when I go on camping trips and long distance when I would be away from my charger for a extended period of time. It is hardy phone and the battery life is legendary.

I've seen a few hit or miss issues that have been coming to light since the release of the TF700 infinity. On some devices, it seems to work and on others, not as well or not at all. From this, it seemed quite necessary to have a thread to identify the issues that others may encounter and for what they should check to know if they have a "good device" or whether it should be returned. Please let me know if their are any items that should be related to this list. If you wish to discuss your tablet's attributes (both good and bad) further, Pretoriano80 has made such a thread: [Infinity issues/defects/good features] Share your issues, defects or best features
Make sure you charge your tablet before using! Explanation in point 3.
Also, do not update past 9.4.5.26 during these tests if you want to use NVFlash!
1- Does your device have good build quality?
Some people have found that there are scratches on the device, frame's bent, the display is poorly set, the ports may be improperly mounted or other such things. It is recommended that if you encounter any of these that you return the device to get another one since you paid a lot of money for a "good" device. The tablet might click at corners, some of the backlight might bleed through around the edges of the display, or maybe show a slight but often not serious protrusion of the screen from the device. It's up to you to judge whether the extremity of this occurrence on your device are serious enough to warrant a return depending on your definition of "quality".
A possible test for "light bleed" is to take a picture from the camera in either a dark room or the camera lens covered (objective is to take a "black" photo). Open the image in the gallery app and turn up the brightness on the device. In this fashion you should be able to notice any "severe" cases of light bleed like this. If the light bleed is little and only noticeable during startup, then it's probably nothing to worry about.
2- Does your device have haptic feedback? (Does it vibrate properly?)
When you turn on and off your device, it should vibrate. This vibration will be subtle like the feeling of a working electrical appliance and not like a console joystick. If it doesn't, then it probably is defective. There are various methods to getting some type of jiggle out of the tablet if you want a more extensive test. One example is to add such feedback to your on-screen keyboard via Settings -> Language & Input. I'll just go over the basic "Android Keyboard". Select the sliders button next to the keyboard, look for "vibrate on keypress", put a little check next to that, then go into "advanced settings". By default, these vibrations are set to 1ms which is a duration too short to provide any feedback. Adjust the "Keypress vibration duration settings" to something like 100ms in order to ensure that the buzz happens. Finally, verify that your default keyboard is set to the "Android Keyboard" and then open up something like SuperNote where you can type. You should have some buzzing upon every keypress. When done with this test, just go back into the keyboard settings and disable the "vibrate on keypress".
3- Is your battery life ~9 hours in power-saving mode or ~6 hours in balanced mode?
Some people have noticed that they either never reach this amount or never come close to it. This is kind of an expected behavior since on the first page of the instructions manual (you did read the manual, right?) it mentions this:
"Fully charge the battery up to eight hours for the first-time use. The battery reaches its maximum capacity after one full charging and discharging cycle." Therefore, one is supposed to charge the battery for up to an 8 hour period prior to use and then discharge the battery (until ~10% or so). You may encounter a variant of this concerning "a few cycles" but still, right after tearing the plastic off the box like a rapid child at Christmas, ensure that you just plug it in and forget about it for 8 hours (or until the charging light turns off). Otherwise, it can have a lasting negative impact on battery life.
More information about Li-ion can be found here.
4- Does the GPS work?
The TF700 shares a few things with the TF201 Prime (which had notoriously bad wireless, including Wifi communication, Bluetooth, and GPS). Some owners of the Prime didn't remember to check GPS even when everything else worked and later needed to get a Dongle. Ergo, why I put it here high on the list. I believe many of the issues dealing with hardware and software have been addressed by ASUS so if your GPS doesn't work, try updating (not past 9.4.5.26!) the device or send it back since it might be hardware related. Make sure that when testing, you have the "find location via wifi" option turned off if using Maps. Otherwise, test with a tool from Google Play Store like GPS Status or GPS Test. Note: testing may involve going outside and dancing with the device as the first connection is often the most difficult to get.
When GPS is working, you should see a little circle with a blinking dot inside in the lower right-hand corner. Sometimes, the dot might not blink and can seem to influence how well GPS programs work. Its a strange thing but with a simple solution (from myself encountering it on both the TF300 and the TF700): just open the notifications bar and close it again. The dot should be blinking. If not, try actually turning off and then turning back on the GPS via the notifications bar.
5- Does mini-HDMI work?
Though not necessarily a tendency of faults in the infinity, it is important to check all the offered functionality of the device prior to making it a permanent fixture in your life. Remember that if you don't have a friend with a mini-HDMI cable, Walmart (and many other stores) will accept returns provided they are within a particular time period. Feel free to use this return policy to test your device.
6- Can you watch video/youtube/netflix/etc while using a bluetooth headset?
Some people have noticed that there is a huge decrease in speed when watching a video while using a bluetooth headset for audio. The cause of this is unknown and the only explanation we know of is "because wifi and bluetooth share the same antenna". This seems plausible except that many other devices also use the same antenna for both functionalities yet do not display this behavior. Due to the underlying fact we do not know whether it is software or hardware related, it is advisable to return the product.
7- Does the headphone jack work?
Just for thoroughness and ease-of-testing, plug in a set of ear buds and make sure you hear sound. Some have complained that the quality is mediocre due to a humming noise but that the noise is negligible. If the noise is too pronounced, there still is the mounted speaker and if point 6's test was successful, bluetooth is still an option.
8- Does your device feel quick to respond? If not, are you on firmware version .26?
It has been widely noted that version .26 of the firmware made the tablet very snappy. This also helped the device to recognize more microSD cards but also caused problems with NTFS-formatted drives. If you aren't getting the response you want, try upgrading to .26 (not beyond that). Additionally, if your microSD card is NTFS, you may want to reformat it (backup whatever you want to keep first) to FAT32 or exFAT until the issues with NTFS are ironed out. This point also concerns point 9 further down.
9- Can you receive OTA updates? (This should be fixed since Aug 7)
Provided that you are on version .21 or .22, you should be able to receive updates from ASUS for your device via the "About Tablet" option in settings. If you cannot, this might be indicative of another issue which has yet to be identified. You can apply updates without OTA via these methods:
(easiest way)[HOW TO]Tired to wait the .26 with WW TF700 device?
(another way)*** Firmware News & Alternative Install Methods*** Ver. 9.4.5.26 27/07
(requires root)[HOWTO] Manually updating firmware using "dlpkgfile" download via Asus FOTA server
(requires unlocked bootloader)[HowTo] Restore Stock Recovery and Install .26 OTA Manually with Unlocked Bootloader
(requires unlocked bootloader and TWRP custom recovery)[CWM] Repackaged OTA update 9.4.5.26 US/WW versions
Make sure you do not update past 9.4.5.26 if you want to use NVFlash!
10- (Only if this is important to you and then only if you are willing to forego any ASUS warranty) Can you unlock the bootloader? (This should be fixed since Aug 7)
Bonus Warning: ASUS has noted that using their bootloader unlocker will void your warranty and all OTA updates for your device will cease. However, without this unlocking, you will not be able to run custom ROMs nor will you be able to use NVFlash to make your device brick-proof.
[Device is unlocked][Video Added] Bootloader Unlock Tool Released [25.7.2012]
If you are still within your store's "grace period", you may want to try this out to verify if your device will ever be able to run non-ASUS android systems. There's no way of knowing at this moment if the bootloader unlocker will work on your device without actually trying to unlock it. If it does not work, it might be due to their service being unavailable, your serial number might not yet be in their database of devices for the unlock to succeed, your device serial number internally might not match your external serial number (on the sticker), or the problem might be something else entirely. Many of those whose bootloader would not unlock did not receive OTAs either so this shares the "issue which has yet to be identified" from point 9.
If you can give your tab a :good: to all of these points, then you have a good device! Congratulations! :highfive:

Yep, mines a keeper.
Build quality is acceptable .. (I own an ipad also) ...I'm going to say 80% the build quality of the ipad. It does OTA and manual updates just fine. Headphone jack works. Has slight click if you press the screen by the speaker ...but only noticable because I read here that it clicks if you press by the speaker . Speed, temps, light bleed, battery life ....all as expected ...not perfect but perfectly acceptable. I am enjoying the tablet, and have no major complaints. I can only assume it will get better with JB when it comes out.
The ipad is more polished, faster, easier to use ....but not by a huge margin. And I make allowance for the immaturity of android tablets and the OS compared to ipad and iOS. I think the trade off is worth it for the additional control... and eventual rooting of the device.
Price ....hmmmm... perhaps a bit high compared to the ipad.... about $75 less would have been nice ....but it's basically a toy for me so I can't complain too much. And part of the whole thing is I wanted a tablet....and I wanted to support the Android market so it would stand a better chance at competing with the ipad... because honestly I think Andriod is the future of tablets ...not iOS.
I'd say the single disappointment is ....I bought the tablet to watch motorcycle racing videos from MotoGP.com, which I pay about $120 US a year to be a member ..... guess what...the tablet will not play the archived videos from this site ....it will stream live video fine, it will play all other "current" content fine...but will not play the archived videos ...... my iPad plays them just fine. I'm in contact with MotoGP.com trying to solve the problem ...but it's not a new problem ....its across the Asus tablet line.
Still.... I enjoy the TF700T, and think it's a good product ....although perhaps should be offered at a bit more of a discount compared to the iPad ....for now.
I have no regrets.

This thread is really just supposed to be a developing checklist for people to verify their tablets since it seems that not all problems are experienced by all users and some problems are more extreme than others. That being noted, how did you try to access said videos? Is there a specific program or application you are required to use? Did you try other such programs from the Play store? Since you are paying for your access, I doubt it would be something that a non-member would be able to assist much.
Yes it is a keeper
Plays HD content flawlessly
The GPS is sooper dup on the road
The WIFI sensitivity is exceptional
Can be viewed outside easily
I really like the hotspot tethering performance also
Pretty much a sweet package
I use it a lot around the house to help me with DIY project info...

Already did
The only issue I've really had with my device after upgrading to .26 is occasional lock-ups. One lock-up concerned me enough to feel a need to return the device. The screen filled with vertical (if holding landscape) white bars. Has anyone else experienced such issues?
I haven't tested the HDMI yet. And other then the inability to OTA or unlock everything is working perfectly on the latest build

My friend found one at Best Buy here in NJ. I told him to return it (not exchange) because of the amount of light bleed alone. He was not able to update it, and it just kept crashing on him which made it almost impossible to use. He's going to try hard reset it again to see if any of that helps.

GPS so far works great without using the AGPS to assist.

Funny thing it does drop from about 20 Mbps to about 3Mbps down, but that won't change no matter how far from the router. The upload is 4Mbps on both no matter how far from the router. It's not the dual antenna that's the problem, it's that they both use one controller chip for the two.
5- Does the headphone jack work?
No problems on mine.
6- Does your device feel quick to respond? If not, are you on firmware version .26?
Was definitely laggy on .21, on .26 MUCH better especially in performance mode. I'm excited for JB.
7- Is your battery life ~9 hours in power-saving mode or ~6 hours in balanced mode?
I charged about 4 hrs till green/fully charged. Funny thing is you can't overcharge these new batteries now and days. They are set to auto stop charging once full (that's the benefit of them now) So I have never "overcharged" because it's not possible. That being said I did a full charge, and am working on the first full depletion to recharge. I'm at 62% and that's 3 days later lol. I have been using it light/moderate the past few days. At least 3.5 hrs of Netflix streaming, setting it up, and not turning it off overnight. We'll see but so far so good and Ifinitely (like that ) better than my Prime.
8- Can you receive OTA updates?
Not OTA, manual worked just fine
Good list, thanks. Mine has passed all of these so far but the headphone test. I forgot that one. I guess I'll give it a shot tonight.
" "Fully charge the battery up to eight hours for the first-time use. The battery reaches its maximum capacity after one full charging and discharging cycle.""
It says" upto 8 hours" It doesn't mean you NEED the full 8 hours. Once you go green and are 100% fully charged, the charger shuts down on its own so not to overheat the battery. The "upto 8 hours" is for folks charging their device via USB on their PC - - which can take up to 8 hours to getting that full charge.
I just got mine yesterday, and while I haven't had time to test either HDMI or full battery cycle (though it's doing pretty well so far) all else is wonderful. Great screen, OTA update to build 26, great wifi and gps, headphones work fine. Sound out of headphones and BT headset is actually great. I do have a millisecond lag with BT audio and watching streaming video, but I could actually live with it, it's not that bad.
This one is definitely a keeper.
I have a quick question while I'm checking my tablet, which arrived yesterday... my screen is uniform across the edge, no creaking or inconsistencies, but the entire surface is raised, or at least isn't flush like my previous Prime. Is that normal? Anyone have a completely flushed screen on their 700? Thanks.

So I guess the screen is higher due to the hardware improvements from the Prime. Good to know, just wanted to be cautious.

Same here - more like 1/16th inch, maybe?
Mine looks perfect, but if I press a bit harder on the screen (you won't do this with normal usage) I get a hissing noice which sound like air is escaping from between the screen. At that moment I can see deformations on the screen. I have read other people do have the same issue, but wondering if this is normal (so all TF700 have it?) or if I should exchange. Any advice?
I have one really big scratch on the dockingstation. Going back to the store tomorrow to get another one.
Added xRevilatioNx's and neo1738's clarification regarding initial battery charge and the green charging light turning off.
Yeah, I agree with you that the new batteries can't be overcharged in the literal sense. It was merely to emphasize the fact that a "full charge" is necessary to receive optimum life out of the device's battery. We don't really know what type of charge existed on the device prior to our receipt, so it's best (or in a worse case scenario) just to charge it for the 8 hours regardless of the status of the light. Does it make a difference if it's 8 hours or until the green light turns off? Probably not. But for the Android neophytes just getting their hands on a tablet for the 1st or 2nd time, I think that my explanation is still applicable and satisfactory to provide a perspective easy to understand and beneficial to the consumer. Thanks for the detailed clarification though.
Received my champagne gold today and doesn't seem to be any issues at all. No light bleed, WiFi and bluetooth are perfect, and no I/O issues (updated as soon as I turned on the device). Seeing as the champagne golds seem to have come latter in the production cycle, it seems they are improving their processes slowly but surely.
Hey together. I have been using the Mix3 for a few month now. The black 265GB variant, China version with international Software.
But I got to say that there are a few problems I wasn't able to solve. Maybe you can!
So here is the List
Love
Screen ratio
MIUI
The overall Look. Gave it to a friend so he can call someone... Damn this phone looks good!
Position of Volume-rocker and Powerbutton
Wireless-charging
Not that good or worse
Thickness
The battery lasts barely a day (medium use)
The AI button... I hit this one too often by accident
No pocketdetection. The screen activates too often by accident (while calling, in the pocket or just picking up)
While calling you got to position the speaker very near to your ear, because if you move it a bit you can't understand the one on the other side anymore
inconsitent strength of the magnetic slider (sometimes it moves very hardly and other times too easy)
connection delays with bluetooth devices. If you did not connect a device in the last few days you got to manually connect the device (click on it in bluetooth settings)
If you got solutions for my concerns you can maybe safe it from getting abandoned or beeing forwarded to my brother
agree on AI button - hate it! especially in phone case it gets triggered too often just holding the phone
any way to mute that button or change it to another usage? I think I can only deactivate the google assistant itself, but it keeps reacting starting it up and asking to enable the assistant again

Totally agree with the AI button thing, I click it ALL the time by accident it's super annoying. There is a thread on XDA for changing the functionality and a Magisk module as well. The Magisk module is for the Mi 9 but may work for the Mix 3 as well, not entirely sure on that. I haven't experienced the Bluetooth issues though, and I have the global hardware (6 GB RAM 128 GB ROM). My Bluetooth works flawlessly. The slider does feel a bit inconsistent, not sure how/why but I rarely use the selfie camera anyway so it's not a big deal for me. I feel like the battery is pretty average for a smartphone, nothing great but not bad. I can usually get through a day with it and its better than my V30 so that's a plus. Hope you're still enjoying the phone overall!

No problem
Personally, I don't have any issues with the thickness and actually, it makes it easier to hold with my large hands. I have had thinner devices, like the LG V30, S9 Plus, and Note 9, but they just feel like toys by comparison.
The AI button isn't an issue for me. I am not rooted but I have used ADB to uninstall Xiaomi's when I was using the Chinese ROM my device came with and used ADB to remove Google Assistant when I installed the Global Stable ROM. I have no issues finishing a day of very heavy use with about 10% battery left using both SIM slots simultaneously. On average, I finish my day with about 30% left, but I do travel often, so those days, I spend more time watching YouTube on planes and texting more than anything else. I have used ADB though to remove a lot of bloat that can run and waste battery life.
I don't use Bluetooth devices at all so i can't really comment on how well or how well it doesn't work on the Mi MIX 3. However, many devices do experience Bluetooth issues for various reasons. Firmware updates for cars or the Bluetooth in the device itself is usually the more common answer. No manufacturer is exempt from these issues.
I definitely agree with the earpiece. Because it is technically set in the bottom part of the device, it has to send sound straight through the other to get to your ear. If your ear is right over the hole where this comes through, it's fine, but it does take some getting used to and makes it hard to rest the phone on your shoulder and still talk on it.
I haven't had any issues with the slider. From the day I got my device, the slider has been stiff and robust. I often use it just fiddling around as well. The magnets pull and push feel just as strong as the day I opened the box. I also haven't noticed the screen being on when it is in my pocket and have never had my screen on when removing it from my pocket. I do have double tap to wake and lift to turn on the screen disabled though. Perhaps it is one or a combination of both of those settings causing that issue for you.

I have some issues with MIUI as well. Would they stop me from buying another Xiaomi device? No.
Tue stock apps suck! The default Messaging app doesn't support rotation and doesn't display group texts under those in that. It splits tue group texts under their individual threads. Changing Messaging apps leaves me with notification sounds that can't be changed because Xiaomi developers are stuck in the years of KitKat with how their sounds work!
The change to not being able to lock the bootloader when switching ROM's is probably the worst I can think of. I get the reasoning behind the change but I bought thebChinese model as the Chinese model because I wanted more RAM.
MIUI settings are also lacking when it comes to restricting roaming from one SIM but not the other.
My T-Mobile plan works in multiple countries and I want that to roam when outside of the US. My Telus SIM though is insane for roaming so I don't want that SIM roaming but I want that SIM left enabled to see who calls and texts.
All that said and a few more gripes. The Mi MIX 3 is still a superb device and one I don't regret buying.
Notifications are awful. I have yet to have a notification display on the lock screen. When I do receive new mail or an SMS message, it can take up to 40 minutes before notifying me if the screen is off. If the screen is on I get the notification within a couple of minutes but that is only if the screen is on. Screen on means the screen is being displayed and the lock screen has been dismissed. It does not mean that the always on ambient display is on. That is just as bad as the display being completely off which makes me think that the problem lies with the phone being locked and is not just an over aggressive doze problem. I am using the notification repeater app and I also use Auto-notifications with its notification categories feature. Both of those have helped a little bit but it is rare that I get a notification within 10 minutes of my phone receiving e-mail or text messages when the screen is off (10 minutes is actually good).
There is also an issue with Android calendars. These aren't the calendars attached to your gmail account and they are not local calendars as well. Android calendars are usually created by 3rd party apps that offer holiday calendars for every country, sports scedules for every NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL and NCAA teams (motor sports and European football in some apps). The apps that also create TV listing calendars create their calendars as Android calendars. Any calendar app for Android can display them and you can choose to display or hide them individually within any android based calendar apps. Not with MIUI though. I can see them in the settings of any calendar app I install and can set them as hidden or viewable but they will not display as a calendar in any calendar app. MIUI has a few nice features but it is not worth the lack of timely notifications and it would also be nice if I could actually display all of my calendars. I have gone the custom GSI route and there were issues with every GSI based ROM I tried. I could install every GSI ROM I tried. I could even install Resurrection Remix GSI without a problem (repairing and resizing the system partition so you can install GAPPS is easier than most people realize. I kept running into deal breaker isssues with each GSI ROM though. I don't remember what the issue was with BlissROM but I do remember taking half a day to try and find a work around to no avail. Pixel Dust had an annoying random reboot problem and Resurrection Remix seemed to work just fine until it randomly would display a Setting up phone message after logging into the phone at a very random time. It would sometimes do this somewhere with the first few hours of use but could go as long as a day and a half before doing it. The only way to get past that screen was to get into the phones settings and clear out your fingerprints and set the phone to not require any type of password, pin or pattern. Once you clear those out the phone will continue to boot. If you want security you will need to setup security again and you will find yourself doing this all over again anywhere within the next hour too 24 hours. This is a known issue and there is a thread about it. It is a ROM issue because it is doing it on many different brands of phones. It is doing it very randomly though and the developers of the ROM have not had it happen to one of their phones yet. It makes the ROM unusable for those of us that are running into it though which is why I am back to MIUI (eu version) and in my opinion, MIUI ruins what would be a very good phone experience.
The pocket detection is occasionally driving me crazy, it's an issue on the PE rom too. The settings pull-down is active even on the lock screen, so while it's in my pocket it will sometimes turn wifi/bluetooth on or off, etc. I'm hoping the Cyanogen rom will eventually improve this. Only seems to be a problem for me when the radio app is automatically activated when I turn on my bluetooth headset.
Bluetooth connection also causes me some minor irritation. It won't auto-connect to the A2DP unit in my car, although it does connect to the phone module. I've been looking through the configuration files trying to find something to tweak this, but the structure of the current roms makes finding anything useful almost impossible.
AI button, also a hassle, but it can't be that bad because I haven't bothered to install the Magisk module to remap it yet. I much prefer a button to call up the assistant rather than "ok google".
Battery, I have no idea what you're talking about, but I guess it depends on what device you came from. This device is far and away the most battery frugal I've ever had, by a long shot, and the speed of the wireless charging makes it even better.
I never have a problem with the earpiece, but I do remove the lint from it fairly regularly, maybe that's the problem? If anything, the sound on calls I would rate as way better than previous phones.
My slider mechanism is also variable. Sometimes it's perfect, other times it's hard to get it to slide, but I think it's more to do with the friction from my fingers than the mechanism itself, sometimes the surfaces feel super-slippery! Give me cheap, rubberized plastic and a removable rear cover and battery every day of the week!

I guess you are right there with the point from where you came from. In comparison to my "old" Huawei Mathe 10 Pro the Battery is bad. But on the other Hand the Mix3 has (fast) Wireless Charging :good:
I checked the last weeks my Battery stats and usage. There was nothing uncommon. To me it is not satisfying, especially when I am on a trip (like last week) I barely made it back to the Hotel with a few % left.
Just to get this into Context (for most of you tl;dr):
Listening to music for 2 hrs
Navigation for public transport - also active for 2 hrs
checking Mails - hard to measure
searching for a place for diner - 20 min
checking social media... every minute is too much
In my opinion this is an average usage and therefore the battery is considered bad to me.

Love the phone. The screen, everything. Running Lineage at the moment.
Really hate:
Notifications on MIUI. Seriously.
The process around flashing roms. Vendor image, dirty flash doesnt work (at least for me), switching roms difficult. Just very, very tiresome.
Would I buy it again? Definitely.

Mine is running rooted crDroid ROM, which allows me to address most of these points.
Thickness: this is a tradeoff for sliding display.
Battery: crDroid is very good battery-wise, but also installed magic module LKT and get easily 1.5 days of heavy use now
AI button: Used magisk module and button remapper APK to remap mine, for me single press does nothing (because like you i press it accidentally all the time) double press toggles flashlight and long press launches google assistant.
Pocket detection: You can enable this in crDroid settings
Holding phone to ear: I don't have this problem
Slider: My slider took a bit of wearing in. That might sound strange but it was a bit squeeky and felt weaker than it should be to begin with but after a few months of use it now feels great.
Bluetooth delays: No idea, never use bluetooth. Sorry about that one.
Hi. I'm not your typical noob person, I simply haven't had an issue I couldn't find a solution for that required me to come to XDA in a very very long time.
Long story short, I got the Galaxy S8+ 5G tablet brand new from T-Mobile in less than a week.. immediately noticed issues with swiping/glide on both Samsung and Gboard keyboards(Gboard is my STRONG preference for a long time now)
This is brand new out of the box, before a screen protector was added or any apps installed. Still did all the standard trouble shooting - installed update, no dice. Force closed each keyboard, wiped cache and data on each keyboard, tried turning sensitivity off and on and.. no dice. Restarted into boot mode and wiped cache.. most of these things not really something that should apply to a brand new out of the box tablet except update and factory reset - both of which I did, neither of which, nor anything else has helped.
I even added a tempered glass screen protector thinking it's TOO sensitive, and even after that, and again trying to toggle sensitivity setting in the settings.. still just will not swipe.
I type this currently on my Samsung Galaxy S20 FE5G absolutely flawlessly. I can type without looking at the phone at all and type near perfect accuracy with just the occasional need to choose a different word in the suggestion bar.. that is using Gboard "glide". The tablet using Gboard bloating mode is almost an identical match to the size of this keyboard and would make it a nearly *perfect* way of typing just as quickly and accurately on the new tablet.. I understand that some of the accuracy comes from use of the keyboard and locally stored into but.. the tablet types gibberish half the time. If I push FAR harder than I should have to while gliding, a few words may work.
Called T-Mobile Saturday, had a warranty replacement sent(God I didn't want a refurbished device) because the only natural conclusion I could come up with is the digitizer has an issue, maybe during shipping.. etc. I don't know..
Got it last night, booted it up, this time I made them include a "invisible shield glass fusion+" screen protector which went on flawlessly and should have no effect on typing at all.. and it's got the same EXACT issue. Maybe a HAIR better, but still completely unusable in my opinion.
I want this for work, the tablet and this phone and a 4k Chromecast, with features like dex, second screen, etc.. there's just about no scenario I can think of where this WON'T be beneficial in any support scenario..
T-Mobile already wants to give me the tablet for free, I've had so many issues with them for so long they switched me to a "business select" package only certain managers can apply, and I get unlimited everything for each device at $25 per device.. forever. No matter how many.
No discounts for auto pay or mass numbers or.. just a flat number that beats the company I was going to switch to when I unlocked my phone 12 days ago.
But I've been a customer customer for 8 years and a T-MOBILE customer since before the first iPhone smartphone was released.. even a few years before that when the best phone you could get had a slide out keyboard and basic touch functions..
So they are supposed to be calling me within the hour, I expected to see numerous threads or posts about this issue, because clearly it isn't ME..
I find some other links I've tried fixes from like:
Strange Gboard bug temporarily breaks glide typing, here's how to fix it [Update]
Over the past 24 hours or so, users have started noting a strange issue with Google’s Gboard keyboard on Android,...
9to5google.com
And see this post of Galaxy phones describing exactly the same issue
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS22/comments/u8y4cz
and describing it happening with a specific update..
I've got 2 devices, the first is brand new and factory reset as of last night, has a glass screen protector, and the refurbished one in front of me with the same issue.. I've restored data so I can continue using it, but tried all the SAME fixes and nothing.. and T-Mobile is calling in 45 minutes or so.
Obviously I'd like to keep the brand new device rather than the refurbished one- but IS THERE A FIX, or anything I can do with them on the phone.. I got a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and aftermarket case.. I can type using the keyboard obviously, but I typically can type WAY faster with Gboard the way I am on my phone right now..
I tried doing searches on XDA but it seems like their search functionality has changed for the worse in the years I haven't been here.. that or I can't find the advanced search and forum search I KNOW I used to use daily.. not in the app, the mobile page, or desktop version.
And because it isn't worth it's own post I'll ask one more question -originally I had them send me a Galaxy tab 7 FE 5G becauseb the S20 I'm using still works so well and it was only $100 if I added the line.. and it's just an oversized worse version of my phone.(but don't recall it having this issue now that I think about it) Which is why I'm here now with this tablet..
The problem created by that is I can't tell the pen for that tablet and the new one apart, and here https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=11342&idPhone2=10922# it is showing the new one has less latency, Bluetooth, etc..
Part of the reason they are calling this morning is they were like "oh, just keep the Galaxy tab 7 for free, on us"
Me: "I don't want that oversized garbage, that's why I'm ordering the 8+!"
T-Mobile guy: "Oh, well then return the 7 and you can have the 8+ on us!"
Then I've been trying to get a shipping label for 11 days now, only to find out that he never put in the system that I wanted to return the device and he already voided out the equipment plan for it.. meaning I'm stuck with a tablet I don't even want- and can't tell which s-pen is supposed to be the better pen!
I mean, the chance I'll lose one is so high I won't return the pen and keep it as a backup.. but.. I'd still like to know how to tell the difference, when I attach either one it connects with no issue and I can't find anywhere that shows the pen type connected!
I'm so sorry this is so long, but like I said.. I normally do not need to come here and get my issues resolved myself, it's what I do for work.. and I haven't needed to root/rom a device in so long that I just kinda.. stopped.
(But I'm not going to lie, I got super excited when I came here and there seems to be the option to root/ROM and that it seems like a well supported device in that way! I've kind of dreaded KNOX because previously I never could.. but I'll look into that later once I fix my CURRENT issues..!)
Best I can do as far as pic of S-Pens https://photos.app.goo.gl/pfqKMiiG49L21gx7A
