Transfer settings from 7.2 device to 8.1 device - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

I have an interesting problem, at least from my perspective. I'm getting a replacement Verizon Pixel tomorrow due to GPS issues and confirmed at the store. I'm assuming the refurb will be running 7.2. My current device is running dev preview 8.1. My understanding is that I can't transfer settings/programs from a higher version to a lower, i.e. my current to the new device. So what would be the best way of doing this? Initial thoughts are to boot the new device without the sim, only wifi, and have it auto update to 8.0. Then I'm not sure how I would enroll that device to get to 8.1 and then start the transfer. Do I need to wipe the new device once it updates after I log in? And you know if I call support they will be of minor help since it's 8.1.
I'm not worried about bootloader unlock since I don't unlock anyway. I also assume that it will come unable to unlock which is fine by me. Any thoughts are welcome or experiences doing something like this. TIA

Well it looks like I'm talking to myself here. So this is what happened. Got the new device yesterday, fired it up without the sim so I could transfer settings and data from the original P. Didn't use the cable and it asked me if I wanted to transfer from the other phone and I said yes. Well it couldn't or said it couldn't and immediately gave me an update notification from 7.2 to 8.0 September patch. Rebooted and tried to figure out how to get the 8.1 settings to 8.0 but alas there was no way I could see.
Ok, so I'm in for a couple of hours restoring apps and data and passwords what can ya do? Immediate update to October patch and I'm off to the races, right? Well here's the interesting part. I naturally go into developer options after enabling them. Just something I always do so I can adb stuff and transfer pics and apks. The switch for OEM unlock is live!! Not grayed out! Well I don't bootloader unlock or root but there was no way I was letting this opportunity pass and flipped the switch. And there it remains, still active after I put in the sim and rebooted.
Now I know this came from Verizon and not Google from the tracking and return label. So what do you think happened? This one just slipped by? Unenrolled the old P without the sim now and it wiped the device and rebooted. That one still has oem grayed out and says something like.. "connect to the internet or contact your provider". I set up wifi and even logged in once again just to check but it's still grayed out. Removed my account and wiped one more time and back it goes.
I hope you find this interesting reading but I really don't care if you don't. lol Just kidding naturally but I will not flip the switch back in case you are thinking of asking me to test it. But I can do some diagnostics that don't require locked bl or root if you wish. The new device is pristine and the battery seems much, much better since I had the old one since black Friday last year and it seemed to be degrading.

5.1.1 OTA?

So today(5-15) I saw online that T-Mobile USA released the 5.1.1 OTA for there branded Galaxy S6/S6 Edge, so any info on when the Verizon branded version is coming out? I'm having multiply major bugs(wifi, memory, and lagging) across 3 different S6 devices(original device and 2 replacements) since launch day. Also, the Verizon Branded OTA that just came out brought me new bugs like with Google voice to text giving me 2 new bugs and making it unusable. Also, apps are freezing like crazy and ends up freezing the whole phone and when I try to lock the phone with the power button when an app is freezing it opens up the camera instead of locking the phone and most of the time I have to restart the phone when this happens and it happens quite often, but only started after the Verizon OTA. Also, from launch day(across all 3 devices) I been having memory issues with the phone, it tells me it has between 1GB-1.2GB of total memory on the phone and I only have 748MB total available with only very few apps on the phone at the moment, everything closed and all the bloatware gone off the phone. I herd that the Verizon OTA we just got was suppose to fix the memory issue, but apparently for me it did nothing at all with the memory on my phone. and lastly I'm having the major wifi bug a lot of us are having witch for me started on the 6th day after launch and never worked again even after I had 3 different devices and still the same thing is still ongoing, and in fact the Verizon OTA we just got made the wifi bug even worst then before.
So the 5.1.1 OTA is really needed for me to fix these ongoing and new bugs I'm having and after 2 months I'm getting sick and tired of waiting for patches to come out!
You probably should go into your system recovery and clear cache. That will probably help a majority of your bugs.

I already did that and nothing changed at all, and like I said I had 3 different devices and nothing changed at all. In fact the 3rd device I got which I still have was giving me problems from very first time I turned it on and during the initial setup as soon as I turned it on from the FedEx box and the keyboard was slow and not putting the letters I clicked in the box and to click next/skip, restart or power off I had to use my pointer finger and press multiple times and fast like a woodpecker would on a tree in order for those functions to respond, and before I can even finish the initial setup I had to already do a factory reset on the phone. Even typing right now in this box responding to you the phone is lagging just typing now.
Don't think Verizon has announced anything yet. The current G920VVRU1A0E2 works fine for me.
To help with keyboard lag - go into settings and make sure the proper language is intalled and updated. Have you tried different keyboards? Swiftkey?

Well 3 different phones since launch day have been giving me all different kinds of problems and never had a device with out a major problem in it and the new Verizon OTA that just came out in June made the phone even worst then before. The Build for the update is G920VVRU1A0E2, and in fact I even had problems getting the update on my phone because from launch day of the OTA-4days after it came out the OTA would not fully download and give me error code 503 and it wasn't until the 5th day that it worked and then when I finally got it installed on my phone it just brought more bugs to the phone like I talked about in the OP

Have you tried using Odin to flash back to stock with the full tar file instead of the update? If not go here and give it a shot. If you use the OE2 one you will have to factory data reset to wipe your phone clean either after or before you flash.

yea I tired that, but this started as soon as I turned on my phone for the very 1st time trying to do the initial set up, plus like I said even pressing next/skip, power off or reset in the initial setup was a hassle. I had to take my pointer finger and point it down and press fast and many times like a woodpecker in order for the buttons functions to work and I could not even finish the initial setup and had to already do a factory reset before the initial setup was even finished on the 3rd device I have now. The phone is so bad that even clicking the home button some of the apps, Google search and weather is not on screen right away and takes second or 2 to show up, its lagging to show up.

3 different devices and still the same exact major things plus new things on each device are going on with the phone. Switching out the device should fix it all, but I guess this is not the case here. Plus about the wifi issues I'm in a XDA forum 13 pages long about the phones wifi not working(I know it says edge, but it's the same problems with the S6 and S6 edge so no difference)

They already said that the new update(5.1.1) is taking away root
My 1st phone which arrived on Sat came with G920VVRU1A0E2 out of the box.
Other than normal setups, and uninstalling Google Play Services and Google Play it has not had any problems.
Perhaps you should go into a store and show them how it is not working?

I did on launch day, I went back to the same corporate store a few hours later and got into a fight with the sales rep who sold me the phone a few hours earlier and the store GM because they were Ignorant because my phone was hot as fuc k at 90F and hotter and they said nothing was wrong. On top of that they even lied to me about having the edge devices in stock on launch day and even pulled out the normal S6 trying to trick me and it was not until I said something did he say oh this is not an edge and then said there was no edge's in stock, but while I was waiting in line I asked him and 2 other reps and they all said they had the white 64GB edge in stock. They rather lie to there customers to make a sale then tell the truth(at least this corporate store location), and then when you have problems with the phone they don't care to help you at all. Even 611 said this was very wrong and made a complaint on mine and 611's behalf on the corporate store and the sales rep.

Here is an update, as of recently my phone is getting really really hot and temperatures of 120F+ and even Verizon technical support saw that through their diagnostic system as it was actually on those temperatures at that very moment when they were looking. Also, from me just being tech savvy and Verizon technical support confirming it as well this phone is also supposed to have a safeguard in the phone and if it gets too hot the device is upposed to power off on its own, but apparently the safeguard is not working because when the phone gets very hot the battery starts flashing and in the middle of the screen it tells me the phone is very hot and it only lets me click OK. If I'm charging the phone the battery flashes and say the same thing but just adds unable to charge, & I can unplug the charger and immediately plug it back in to the phone and it will start charging again and then a few minutes later it will give me the same message. When it's doing that its not supposed to tell me anything it's supposed to just shut off and its not doing so.
So there overheating policy states that I have to bring my phone too a corporate store and they're going to replace the device right on spot. So Sunday I went to the corporate store to do that, but for some reason their system wouldn't allow them to process this because it didn't have an option to do it and the general manager and the store representative we're booth trying together for at least 45 minutes. They ultimately ended up just sending me a replacement device via Fedex to my house and when the phone arrives today(7-2) I have to bring the overheating device that I currently have to the store so they can do what they need to do to send it back because by law I'm not allowed to send an overheating device back. Verizon corporate store processed my order on Sunday and I was supposed to get the device on Tuesday but I'm getting it today due to inclement weather at the FedEx Memphis Tennessee hub and so Fedex at the Memphis Tennessee hub was at a complete standstill and my package was part of it.
Once I get my 4th replacement device and start using it for a while I will let you know how it's working

Guide to updating your H950 (US AT&T variant) to 5.1.1 via OTA

Hi, I just wanted to give everyone some information to updating to 5.1.1 as many of you are probably buying these due to the recent sales. If you don't want to root but wanted the 5.1.1 update through AT&T, here is the guide. You could also try rolling the date method but it did not work for me. I actually bought a bunch of these phones for friends and family, and I've updated five of them to 5.1.1 through AT&T OTA update, and this method is very time efficient
Side note: if you have more than one G Flex2 that you are looking to update, you can update them all using just one sim and swapping them between phones.
Before you begin, do a factory reset under settings if you've already pressed software update and tried rolling the date a few times to get the update. Afterward, do not press software update until you are sure that the AT&T person has pushed the update.
*If you had previously rooted your phone, you must unroot before trying the OTA update, as it will prevent it from installing.
Here are my steps (probably takes around 30 minutes):
1. Register for the gophone plan with the AT&T sim card and put the minimum $10 credit into the plan. For the IMEI, put all zeroes in. This will allow you to select the $2 monthly plan, which you ultimately won't be selecting but instead will select the $1 100mb daily package after your account and sim have been activated.
2. Turn the phone on with your newly activated gophone sim. TURN ON WIFI and keep it on WIFI until your update is downloaded, installed, and finished.
3. Directly call the gophone support line: 800.901.9878, and voice navigate your way to technical support (it's an automated system).
4. When the person picks up on customer service, ask them to put you through to advanced technical support, and if they ask what the call is for, tell them that you were disconnected while talking with an advanced technical support line as this will get you where you need to faster.
5. Ask the person on advanced technical support to push an update to your phone, and tell them that you've tried manually updating through the software update on your phone under settings numerous times. If they insist that they cannot push updates and you have to do it yourself on your phone, tell them that your friend has a G Flex2 with a gophone plan, and he/she was able to get the update pushed with a call to advanced technical support. If you think that the support person is being stubborn and not even attempting to try it, just hang up and try again.
6. Help the support person find the update that you are looking for by telling them the update is called H95011x. DO NOT get the H95011z beforehand, as it will not help you. Ask explicitly for the H95011x update. You can also read some more information from this page, which is the link to the page with the update information (edit: cannot post the link since I'm a newbie... Alternatively, you can find the software info page it if you type H95011x on google and look for the link to the site att.com)
7. Keep asking them to push update from their side, and you will know that they've pushed it when you go to the software update under settings on your phone and it says something different now. Instead of "look for update software" or something similar, it will now say, "continue with software update". When you press it, a notification will appear, saying "communication in progress". Tap on the button a few times to make sure that it keeps saying "communication in progress".
8. When you see "communication in progress", just leave the phone alone for the next hour or two, as the phone is downloading the update file without showing you any sort of progress bar. Keep the phone connected to wifi.
9. Come back and a notification will prompt you to install update and the phone will restart.
Hope this helps! I know that getting the AT&T OTA update can be a pain and I wished that I had some guide to follow when I was first trying to get the update.

I'm not sure, but reading things about going from AT&T 5.1.1 to rooting 5.1.1 PR bricking some phones makes me think that it might be a good idea to unroot.
This is the best guide/advice on how to get 5.1.1 update. Took me 20 min to get the H95011x update and another 15 min on same date to get H95011z.
I wasted about 2 hours trying to get the update OTA by changing dates using my coworker's sim card on Att postpaid plan.
When I read this guide I knew right away the $10 top up will not be waisted. I went ahead and followed it exactly and am so glad I did. The phone is so much better now.
khlavkalash thank you for taking the time, register and putting together this guide! I will also try to contribute by answering further questions in this thread.
Here is the link for the AT&T website detailing the H95011z update. Now if I could just find a rep that is capable of pushing the update to my phone. Grr.
Wish this worked...
I followed this process twice (on two separate days) and they insisted that updates are released only in "batches" and that they have zero control over pushing updates. This phone is awesome, but with it being tethered to ATT for updates makes it so hard to love.

I've had the same issue as you. I was lucky enough to have my sim associated with an iphone plan from way back in the day. As soon as the tech associated my sim to an android data plan it kicked off the 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 H95011x update. Now trying to get them to push the H95011z update has been an adventure in futility.
I will update you if I find another way.

Hmm, I opened a new gophone plan and added 10 bucks of data just so I could do this. Been sitting on my shelf for the better part of two days doing nothing. I hope you get the H95011z update soon. Heck, I'd be thrilled to just get the x update.
Thanks for the info.

Make sure you talk to advanced technical support and use the first rep that picks up the phone just to get transferred further.
If advaced tech says it comes in batches - tell him "I understand this is normal process, however according to my extensive research there is an issue with this particular phone getting update automatically. My friend had the update pushed by advanced technical support last week. Please ask arround how to do it."
Be polite and they will do it. I called last Saturday. Both reps knew how to do it, both were very courteous and even insisted to stay on the phone until the whole process is completed althogh it was not needed.

Hmm perhaps I will give that a try. Honestly, I am okay with waiting for the update but the real issue is how long will I have to wait? A few days is fine but weeks....that isn't worth it. I finally got a tech to push the update after convincing him to do a google search for H95011z. Update started and then failed, when it booted the notification was that it failed because root detection was triggered. This is after I used the tool to bring my phone back to stock and downloading a root checker app that showed I do not have it. Sigh, back to square one.

Please add a note to unroot/not be rooted before starting this process. If the phone is rooted it will not update from the OTA download
Also note that the system restore might not strip all artifacts from rooting.

FYI I posted this in another thread. It doesn't help you get to 5.1.1 but it might help you go from x variant to z.
Finally got a tech to do the push but the push failed because it detected ROOT even though I had done the system restore along with verified with root checker saying no root installed.
At that point I gave up because my only option was a factory flash. On a whim I decided to run the backup/restore tool with the 11z .img file knowing I had nothing to lose. From what I can tell so far, it worked fine and I'm now running 11z. I ran the stagefright detector and now my device only shows one vulnerability instead of several.
I will now start tearing it apart with root and etc, if it craps out I'll let everyone know.

I finally decided that waiting for ATT to push out an update that likely wasn't going to come anytime soon wasn't worth it and flashed the H950PR rom. It was super simple, very quick and went through without a hitch. It runs WAY faster than the 5.0.1 rom from ATT and no bloatware....gotta love that. The only thing that doesn't work is the LG Smart World app cause it detects me being in another country (even though I'm in the US) but there is a web interface that works just the same so no big deal. I have fully working LTE and my battery life is superb.
Thanks for all your help and your in depth guide. I (and other I'm sure) very much appreciate your efforts.

Well since I never had the ATT one, I cannot say exactly. But judging from the 5.0.1 that the phone came with, it doesn't get nearly as hot, the battery life is quite a bit better (used to get about 3-4 hours of SOT, now its 5-6), standby battery is CRAZY good, its runs generally faster, plus the update came straight from LG so when they release another update it will come straight from them making it easy to update. The same update method should work. The only thing I truly miss is the Glance from the lock screen. It still works, but it used to have a lit background image; now it doesn't have that. Its just the normal material color background. Nothing huge, just a very very minor cosmetic thing.

ATT OTA 5.1.1 does the same.
On the other note, I do not understand how are you planning to get update directly from LG. My understanding is that you will have to wait for that small PR cell company to release another update and somebody to come up with a way to apply it. I have more faith in ATT, then into a small PR cell company in regard to supporting this phone with future updates

Looking for best option with my S7

Hey guys, So I purchased a S7 on ebay after clearing the IMEI through Verizon's Fraud Department. I then made sure the Imei matched the Original Phone Box, Receipt and back glass. All was well so I was happy with the purchase. It had a broken front screen and I went through the repair and fixed it!
Was really happy to save money by repairing an S7.
Only issue is what I have no learned to be FRP. She reset the phone before sending it to me which is completely understandable.
I've emailed her in ebay about it and she said she would get back to me with the gmail account but hasn't responded regarding giving me the password.
I fully understand and don't expect her to give me their password. That's a bit ridiculous of me to expect that. All I want is the clean clear phone I bought from her and be able to use it.
So A few things, Im not just here for this. I also want to get into rooting which is why I registered, I hope to be of help in the future as I learn more and more about getting those
terrible factory apps and stuff that comes from verizon.
1. Which is the best method about doing an FRP Bypass. I see people on ebay that will do it for like 20 bucks remotely over team view. Others send a usb drive.
2. I absolutely can provide proof of purchase through screen shots on ebay, as well as the item number to show you who bought it. (Same Username of course)
I totally understand frp is to prevent theft, which is great. It just sucks that the owner didn't know she was selling me her locked phone. Shes the original owner. She didn't have insurance so when she broke the screen she had to buy a new one and thats why she sold this one on ebay. She's been super helpful and nice
as we exchange emails on ebay. But short of driving 5 hrs each way to meet in person frp bypass is my only option. I gave her the option of me driving there, I would spend the time/gas to meet at her local verizon store so i dont have to do this mess.
I did attemp a frp bypass on albviral but I must have done it wrong, and it seemed a bit complicated. Again, I can provide proof that I did not steal this phone. Whatever I need to do to
not lose even more money from the purchase and repair.
If any help, I'd be super appreciated.
thanks
Well they changed their password because she couldn't remember it so I can only assume theres a 24hr lock out period or something. It wont log in. And even using a recovery email and her sending me the verify code it wont let us into the phone.
Update:
Lady changed their google password and it still wont log in. I tried clicking forgot and it sent a code to the recovery email which she logged in, got and sent me.
After I tried that it just kept kicking me back to the start of frp by saying "Log in using an account that was synced to this device" and taking me to a screen to put in the gmail.
When I try random passwords it says wrong password. But when I try the one she made today it just kicks back. 24hr period? I really hope that's all it is.
I even put in their names to confirm account and it kicks me back saying that isnt correct. She said he can't remember anything and has to get new passwords all the time much less knowing what was used when they orginally go the phone. So I guess i'll try in 24hrs and if not then I'll try someone on ebay? idk.
Flash an older firmware with ODIN that has an FRP bypass tutorial on YT
It's been done. Now I get a security notice that unauthorized changes have been detected, restart phone to undo.
Obviously im not going to do that but will it ever go away.
I'll shortly install sim card and activate phone. I appreciate the help.
Now for me to research rooting!
Wow this is terrible. The prev. owner called verizon tech support and had the phone cleared off her account but it still won't let us activate it. They said wait 24hrs and see if that takes care of
it and if not then the phone is useless. Doesnt even make sense that the original owner contacted them, cleared her and the phone and still may not be usable.
Alrighty, all is fixed and new sim card and im activated and everything. It wants to update to 7.0 but im hesitant to do it.
Updated to 7.0 nagout. All is well. There's an additional
System update that includes some security measures.
Since updating to 7.0 went smoothly I guess I'll go ahead with the additional system update.
Glad you got it working!
Thanks! This newest security system update has me a little worried but I guess I'd the 7.0 update went fine I shouldn't be worried about it. Having done the rep bypass just has me on edge even tho the original owner is great and told tech support it was hers to clear it and let me have it and all.
I still want to look into rooting, there's just a bunch of junk on here. Even games! I don't use it for games.

First things to do once receiving unit?

Hi all, my new OP7Pro will be in my hands on Thursday. I purchased the 8 / 256 Gig version. What are some suggested or first things to do / settings to set to get the most out of this device. I can see how this is heavily opinionated so post away! This will be my first OP device and I will be coming from an LG G4 stuck on Android 6. So plenty of new features and capabilities await me. I look forward to your responses. Thank you in advance.
Just got mine but I'll wait to open it till TWRP is working
After restoring all your data just use the phone, thats the best way to get it dialed in. Maybe watch/read a review or 2 of the phone and the latest version of android to familiarize yourself with all the new things the OS offers.
I got mine today but there is a small flaw near the flash in the blue backing to the glass. Its a small visual imperfection, but I know its going to drive me crazy after paying 750 for it. I'm heartbroken because I wanted to mess with this phone all week....now I am going to have to go through the RMA process and wait longer.....gah.
Their support was just okay during the process...seemed like they just wanted to get me off the phone.

Check the call quality, mate. I'm having major problems. The other parts in a call says it's a very bad quality.

Take out of box, admire for a min. unlock that suckers bootloader and install magisk, then setup and enjoy!!! (TWRP Optional) I personally going to wait until official.
Thank you everyone. I will be sure to give it a good testing. Just didn't know if there was any specific apps that should be removed or added to get maximum enjoyment. Figured there wouldn't be too many added apps since I bought straight from OP.
Got mine. Rooted, added my magisk modules, themed with substratum, restored apps+data with swift backup.
Enable tap to show ambient display (under display, ambient). This let's you do a tap -> tap to unlock as opposed to double tap -> tap to unlock.
The second morning I had it, I was messaging T-Mobile Help on Twitter to unlock my SIM. The first rep gave me the runaround, but the second unlocked it with no questions asked, because I'm a 10-year-customer I then applied for my bootloader unlock token. Come on, Saturday!

I tried to make up an excuse as to why I needed my phone unlocked I told them I was leaving the country for 4 months but then I realized I don't know the reason as to why I needed my phone unlocked to travel....
What would be the reason to have a phone unlocked to leave the country?

Edit... nevermind I found what I needed to say lol
So I finally convinced somebody on TMobile Twitter and they said I need to do a Sim swap to make permant unlock work....after this step how do request for bootloader unlock and from who?
Second I got it was run through setup (skipping everything), update OS, then unlocking the bootloader. Restarted, ran thru setup, installed Magisk and my modules and now I'm all set till a stable TWRP is ready.
Currently waiting to see if we can get that VoLTE/VoWiFi trick working like on the 6/6T.
I was going to try and convince T-Mobile to unlock my SIM but then I figured that I could wait and hope that the devs bring the same tools that was with the 6T. Once the MSM tool and everything that was on the 6T comes to the 7 pro (hopefully), then I will just go to the international version then with no issues. Oxygen OS as of right now is doing just fine for me without root.
1st thing to do is lick it, only way to demonstrate to everyone that it's yours.
On a more serious note I wouldn't use the OnePlus Switch app, there's loads of people on the OP7 forums saying that they're having issues with laggy apps because the app and data has been restored using OnePlus Switch, if your apps have been installed from the Play Store then signing into your Google account, when you set the phone up, should have the setup prompt you to restore your apps, it may also show a date for each backup depending on if you've been installing different apps. I would just restore using that technique as some of the users on the OP forum confirmed this gave a better experience.

Just did mine yesterday. Have to wait till next Tuesday. I'm still not sure I'm going to unlock and root this bad boy, really don't want to lose L1 on this thing, the screen is gorgeous, but I want to have the option to unlock and root just in case.
For me I would:
Dark theme
Gesture Navigation instead of the buttons.
Set up screen gestures "like draw V to turn flash light"
If you use google, under button and gestures " Quick activate the assistant app". coming from the pixel and squeezing the phone, this is super handy.
Adjust touch vibration for calls "Set as medium by default"
Pick the best Dolby Atmos settings for audio through the phone's speaker.
+Magisk if you're rooted.
OP7P comes in tomorrow. Backed up SMS/MMS today. Pics/Vids are already sorted on an SD Card. What else do I need to backup? Been 2 years since I had a new phone haha

Question Nov update enabled my OEM Unlock

I installed the Nov 2022 update yesterday (TP1A.221105.002), and suddenly the developer OEM Unlock option is no longer greyed out and I am able to enable it!
Not sure if this has happened for anyone else, but thought I might share some info in case it helps anyone.
My journey:
Purchased in September.
Booted up to Android 12.
Installed OTA via system settings.
Ran stock Android 13 for two months - checked OEM Unlock option every couple days with no luck.
Installed November OTA via system settings and rebooted.
Checked developer options today and OEM Unlock is working!
Not sure what would have fixed the issue. I didn't see any mention of this being a fix in the update. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Is unlock working for anyone else after Nov OTA?
No, still not working
In order to activate the OEM switch all you need to do is boot into the system and then do the first OTA. Reboot and then factory reset. That's it if you bought a Google unlocked version. Getting a "new" device with A13 on it means the phone is a refurbished one since all P6a are shipped with A12. If the update to a later version of A12 doesn't enable the switch return the device. Don't call Google support, don't pass go. Just return it for your money back.
No clue on how the latest Nov A13 patch magically enabled the switch but that is not usual to say the least. It doesn't matter if you have a sim in or not. I had 2 sims in both Verizon and unlock was available after update and reset.
If you bought it from a 3rd party or a carrier all bets are off. Either you got lucky or you didn't. Return it or keep it and live with a locked bootloader. Does that help clear it up? Can we let these threads die a merciful death already?
If it was so easy for us to just return it — sure we'll did it. But if people asking and searching for solution for hours and days — maybe return isn't the easiest solution for them.
Also many people getting there OEM button active after some time for no reason or after some weird combinations of resetting and updating...
I have two p6a, one with a13 from the box with no problem and the other with a13 updated by OTA to a13 still having this problem.

You're right, sorry. This is a quality control problem and it's a shame it needs to be dealt with. I posted the way it should be and obviously that's not always the way it is. I stand corrected.
In my case, I guess patiently using stock pixel like a good little googler payed off for whatever reason. Either way, I'm just pumped I get to root this thing and really start personalizing!
I was fortunate with both mine. At first I was puzzled then mad af...(before I had seen the post saying to update then reset). Ofc by then, I had already begun installing and configuring most of my non-root 'daily' apps then my root apps with the tedious ADB perms. Next day ofc...I see the post saying to wipe then recite about every profanity I know...at max volume. Proceed with wipe, re-updated w/ota...nothin'! Waited a bit and one more re-boot and it worked. 2nd phone was the same with only 1 reboot after the ota...I just waited a lil longer. Was soo annoyed at first...waiting a month or two and I'd have blown a gasket 4 sure.

Did you try to turn off the "Use Developer Options" and see if the "OEM Unlocking" pops out? I had the "OEM Unlocking" button greyed out from when I received the phone from Amazon until I updated Android 12 June update. Out of desperation, I decided to turn off the "Use Developer Options", and then the "OEM Unlocking" popped out and then I enabled it. Give it a try.
Of course I did)
I have tried every possible way mentioned on the internet I guess.
I came to share my experience cause just yesterday the oem unlock enabled itself.
I bought a few days ago a pixel 6a in mexico on an online local store that stated that devices were unlocked.
Without knowing this issue with oem unlock, I conected to wifi and updated to a13.
Then I was curious about root and discovered that oem was grayed out. I proceed to format factory and tried again with no luck.
On wednesday I inserted my sim in order to verify carrier compatibily and I was able to have data and make calls. I use the sim for about and hour and then i inserted again on my main device.
Then, all of sudden, yesterday oem unlock was enabled. I activate it in order to verify and it´s working fine.
I´m not sure if it was the november update or having used a sim on the device, but now it´s enabled.
P.S. The pixel 6a it´s not mine, but now I´m going to buy one for myself and root it.
