This thread dicusses a clicking sound that people are reporting coming from the top of their Pixel 2, when NFC is on: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2/help/clicking-phone-calls-t3691069.
Disabling NFC makes the clicking sound go away. It is audible at all times when the screen is on. At least some people, including me, find that it is louder when you put your ear to the back of the phone at the top, than when you hold the earpiece to your ear. So it is not clear if the sound is coming directly from the earpiece or not. But it is loud enough to be audible during calls and very annoying. The issue seems to only affect the Pixel 2 and not the 2 XL.
I'm just wondering if there are people with the Pixel 2 who do not hear the clicking sound? Is it just the few people commenting in the other thread or is this more or less a universal problem? I've seen very few reports (just one) of people saying they do not have this issue with their Pixel 2.

I RMA'd my device, so it's good to know I have some chance of getting one without the issue. Generally Google has apparently stopped RMAing devices for this issue while the look into it. They said they did not want to just send me another device that would also potentially have the issue. That makes sense. But after I talked to customer service for a while, they said they'd send me a new one anyway.
Neither I nor my wife have noticed this problem on our Pixel 2 phones.
I do not have this issue.
no problems here
No issues here and I have made a lot of calls in the short time I have had it
Thanks for the responses so far.
Just to be clear, the clicking sound only occurs when NFC is on. So those saying they do not have the problem have NFC on and still do not hear the clicking sound?
Could all that does not have this issue post their first 5 characters of serial numbers ?

wazka2 just wanted to know what you was planning on doing. I was going to pick one up from CPW this afternoon.
Reading online reviews show they are not very good in returns if purchased in store.

I think I will go in to store to get it replaced. Although I believe Google will sort it with update I might get a unit that does not crush blacks like mine.
Carphone is ok with replacements in the first 30 days period. I have gone through 4 Nexus 6p with them.
Also spoke to Google and they said even though bought elswere they will still provide support and replacements if you want to go through them later on.
I absolutely love this phone.
I bought mine from CPW on Thursday, no clicking sounds despite NFC being turned on serial prefix FA79L.
As previously mentioned, Google will provide warranty cover for 2 years in the E.U.
The camera on this device is excellent.
Strangely after charging my phone the issue is gone...
FA79T here bought from EE no problems at all
UK Mobiles.co.uk Serial beginning HT79S
No issues, NFC on and used for Android Pay several times.
FA79L from EE - no problems so far (only about 4 hours old!)
this is really a nice thread. at least google will be aware thats this issue is not happening on all devices.
Mine is from the Google Store, don't have any noise at all while on a call with those conditions met.
No clicking, and idk what it would even sound like. Anyone have a good recording of it?
Pixel 2 XL here.

Sounds like the second hand on a watch. Very noticeable in a quiet environment during a call. With NFC off, sound isn't present. But there's still some sort of hiss/whine similar to a HDD working. If you turn on the flashlight, that whine goes away. It can also be heard from the back of the phone near the camera.
Unfortunately for me I had these noises. Found out after reading the forums/Reddit. Getting a replacement next week from Google. Serial started with "FA."
I believe people with the XL 2 don't have this issue.
But despite those issues, the pixel 2 is great!

Hi guys,
I guess I am the unlucky one. Received my N5 yesterday, started playing with it late evening (21:00'ish). Installed apps, copied over some music, etc - everything worked perfect! I went to sleep...
This morning when I woke up, I saw THIS (see attach). It is clearly a hardware issue - either the screen or GPU. When you switch the phone on, the "vertical lines" appear after about a second. They may change intensity or pattern when you flick desktops, etc. They may even go away after you have had your screen on for some minutes (once it gets "warm" enough). Switch the phone off, wait for some 20 seconds, switch it back on - voila! It's back!
Anyone else experienced this? (hopefully not)
Wow that sucks big time. I dont have that issue on my Nexus 5 16gb. Hope you get a replacement soon.
Just called Google. The support was very good, no silly questions like "have you tried switching it off and on again?". A replacement device will be with me within some days *fingerscrossed*

Shhiiieeeeeeete....
Yes, that is exactly what I have, but on mine only lower 3cm of the screen are affected. The 'banding' sometimes goes away if I play with the phone for a while. Sometimes it comes back. Sometimes it flickers.
Replacement device is already on its way, I suppose?
Humn. Odd that it cuts off at that fraction of the screen...or I'd say GPU banding.
I'm guessing screen. That sucks man, sorry to hear that!
But yeah...Google seems to give the customers the benefit of the doubt in terms of not making them feel like idiots.
May I ask...
Are they sending a replacement before you send yours in?
And I'm assuming a "new" device and not a "refurbished" (doubt they even have 'em at this point) device?
Major bummer if not. If so...that's pretty cool, and I suppose you can deal with a shotty screen for a few days.

Well, the 'return' and 'replacement' happen independently. It works like this:
1) Some 30 mins after we spoke, the guy emailed me a link. I click on it and order a replacement device, delivered to my address.
2) An amount of GBP 349 is getting *frozen* on my Google Wallet account (they do not take the money, but reserve it as a deposit). My Wallet is linked to a debit card, I checked it and I see 349 GBP reserved.
3) The old phone is to be sent to them via UPS. I should attach a "Prepaid UPS label" to the package so that Google could cover the return shipping costs.
4) once they receive the broken phone, the money on my Google Wallet account are released.
I can send an old phone to them now, or I can wait for the new one to arrive. They have asked me politely to use good packing materials, so I'll probably wait for the new phone to arrive and then will just cannibalize the card box
And as far as I know, it HAS TO be a brand new phone. I have called them some hours after opening the box, so technically I could have just returned it under the 'distance purchase' regulations and claimed my money back (to buy another phone afterwards).

Looks to be a GPU related issue.I used to repair phones for a living and see a LOT of this with the HTC one and the one x. Great that Google are replacing no questions. Hope is isolated and not a manufacturing defect.

Ok. After RMAing the first device due to a faulty screen (GPU banding) I have finally received a replacement one.
- no dead pixels (at least after a quick test using PixelTest)
- almost no rattle (I mean I can move the buttons with my finger and they'll probably become looser, but no rattle now, shaking my phone as much as I want ))
- screen is good - no GPU banding, otherwise I wouldn't have been writing this.
- no lightbleed noticed (again, using PixelTest on 'very dark' backgrounds)
- vibration sounds quiet. As it should.
- vibration strength is probably a liiiiiiiittle bit weaker than on my 1st N5 when pressing softkeys, unlocking, etc. For calls - it buzzes very well.
All in all, I think, I have finally got a very good device *fingers-and-toes-crossed-ten-times*.
..
I had my screen replaced by a local shop. The phone worked fine even with spider web cracks. They damaged a cable supposedly to do with the sim card in the process. They ordered the parts and I got it back 2 days ago. Since I got it back GPS no longer works. It seems to see satellites, but won't lock. Also, the phone ear piece and mic don't work-it will work on speakerphone and bluetooth. Google voice search doesn't work-mic doesn't have signal. Is there a diff mic on headset vs speakerphone, thats odd?
Take it back, tell them to fix it some more!
Seems like they still don't have it right...

OK, so this mic situation could be hardware. Thx.

Yep....one on the bottom of the phone and one on the back of the phone to the left of the cameras.
I just wanted to try to learn what I could about it. It's going back, it's useless to me now. I just hope they are capable of fixing it. Big mistake bringing it here. Unfortunately HTC's customer service was not so good, no one ever got back to me, I would have rather sent it back to them.

Sorry man. Just out of curiousity where is here?
Thanks, just dropped it off again, hopefully they will fix. I'm in Orange County, NY.
The nightmare continues. Just in case there are any locals here, it's at a place called CPR (cell phone repair). They are a franchise, apparently reviews are sketchy all around. I wish I checked this out beforehand. Apparently they have no idea how to fix my phone and just keep ordering parts from Taiwan that take forever to get here supposedly. We've contacted their corporate office to complain, but so far to no avail. I'm at the point where I'm just going to go in and take it back and buy another used one somewhere. Then I will go to the BBB, review on every site I can find. Arggghh!
Sell as is, or fix and sell? OK got my phone back, it's got a fresh screen and some internal bits. The top (ear) speaker is not working. They told me they were waiting again for parts, I decided to pull the plug on that. Phone is totally functional otherwise. I bought a used one in the meantime while all this has gone on. Does anyone have interest in buying as is? Should I try to take it somewhere else, or send back to HTC to fix?
First one had dead pixel right in the middle of the screen. Second phone kept getting the battery overheating message and would not let me use any apps besides the phone app. Exchanged for my third this morning...so far so good. Even worse news however, is that while I was getting my last phone there was another guy in there getting an exchange on his Note 5 for the screen going bad. He said it started out in the upper left hand corner and eventually just spread throughout the entire screen. He said he had the phone for about a week and a half. Needless to say, I'm slightly worried that Samsung may have rushed this out just a bit too quickly. Time will tell I suppose. Happy otherwise

I'm on my second. The first one had an issue with the glass not being fused with the display properly. There were small gaps between the glass and the display. Not really a huge issue but in certain colors you can notice it.
But most, if not all, devices have their issues and bad batches, defects etc..
I just posted about me being on second note not even in a week. Screen went dead, flickers green.

I personally think Samsung rushed this device and we're paying for it. Disappointed. .. but still like it over my S4

Notbing to be shocked about. Everything has a error rate. Some note 5's have defects, most do not.
I am a technician at Sprint retail location. I have seen all these issues, but very few and far between. It's not anything that I'm worried about, as I purchased a note 5 as well. Sometimes you get some bad luck.
My wife's new Note5 has had a few spells where it wouldn't ring for incoming calls or text, any thoughts on this?

If you haven't already, try ##72786# in the dialer.
Also make sure her network connections are set to LTE/CDMA and not Automatic. I've had a lot of service issues come in due to being set to automatic.

Thanks, I did set it to lte/CDMA but haven't done the ##72786# thing yet. It's done it twice, she's had it for a week now. You can call her and it goes straight to vm and not even ring.
If the problem persists, take it into a corporate store and have them 14 day exchange it for a new device. I would give it a few days after re-provisioning (the 72786 code) to see if it happens again. But be sure to do it within those 14 days (day 1 does not count, so it is 14 days after the day of the sale) so you are guaranteed to get a new device, although I am sure there aren't any reconditioned devices for the note 5.... yet.
edit: a word.
Thanks, yeah this Note5 was a replacement for a broken Note4 through asurion. Other than this little hiccup it's a very nice phone.

Yeah she likes it, I do too to be honest.
In that case, you have device protection, where if it is not working they will replace it in store. Just try to do it within 30 days where it doesn't hurt the tech's numbers.
But yes, you did get lucky, but not very surprisingly seeing as Note 4, even reconditioned, inventory is non-existent. Quickest I've ever seen a note series phone go off planogram and end of life.
Samsung can't fix these phones.
Sent mine in for the bottom of the screen not working, they say it's BER, and they can't fix it NO MATTER WHAT I WANT TO SPEND. I asked the guy over and over "If a board in my Samsung TV goes bad, you will replace it, but not in your flagship phone?" his answer was no they won't fix it.
They say it has water damage, which is hilarious. I MAY have pulled it out of my pocket, in it's case, in a drizzle once and in 3 weeks it's ruined?
If you don't have an otter case or something that completely encompasses this phone to keep the water out, I suggest you get one.
I've dropped a phone in a tub of water that is still working fine, a few drops on this phone and it's done.
I have to agree, I bet this phone gets a really bad reputation pretty quickly for being a super poor design.

All Note 4's are being replaced with Note 5's. If you start a claim online right after confirming you had a Note 4 it says it will be replaced with the Note 5 due to them not having Note 4's anymore.
Well my mother in law went to a sprint store having issues with her Note4, they had to order her a new phone and they sent her another Note4.

Sprint stores use a different company for replacement devices vs. Asurion. I do know that we are still replacing Note 4's with Note 4's in store, though it is on back order. Asurion is probably giving out Note 5's due to their vendor not being able to get an ample amount of Note 4's to offer next day replacements.
Hey guys,
since a week i am having quite a big problem with my preordered Pixel. One week ago I had it on the table when I suddenly heard the vibration of incoming messages going from the normal deeptone buzzing of the vibration (my phone is mute all the time) to a loud and clear rattling. at first i thought maybe it was because it "jumped" around on the table, but it was in fact lying on my mousepad. When i picked up the phone i could clearly hear that the rattling was coming from the inside of the device, especially from the lower part. Since this moment, my pixel rattles whenever the vibration motor is running and the vibration of the device itself is much more slender.
I contacted the Google Support, saying that i am quite disappointed with my device, which after 3 weeks of usage looses its vibration motor. After now a week of not hearing from them they wanted a video of the problem, which i also have linked for you guys to check: https://goo.gl/photos/w5v1eg2qnkrZGKkD6
You hear me saying "One more time, please" on german to a friend who then sends me a message. After this you can clearly hear the loud rattling (compare the volume of the rattle to my voice!) when the message is received.
After this video, google tells me, that everything is fine with my device. Which is clearly not, because it was not like this the first three weeks. I have now a broken 750€ device where Google says, that everything is fine.
Disclaimer: This is my 5th Google Device (Nexus 4, Nexus 5 [3x, all broke within warranty due to software errors with stock rom], Nexus 7, Pixel C). It was not dropped or something else, it looks brand spanking new. I know how to handle devices. All my Devices use Stock ROM without root.
What do you think about it? It is also not the common "rattle" from the autofocus mechanism, like the Nexus 5X had it, back then you could hear the noise directly coming from the camera, which it isn't here...
Same here
My Pixel XL is doing the exact same thing and I have seen a few YouTube videos of other phones with this problem. I have had it since release and it started doing this sound 4 days ago. I have a replacement coming from Verizon today for this, and I'm crossing my fingers this one doesn't have the problem! It's very loud and essentially ruins the whole point of having your phone on vibrate-only if you can hear the vibration from across the room! I haven't dropped or damaged it, but something is clearly very wrong all of the sudden.
Good luck and I hope you can get yours replaced!

Thanks, i also thought about that. Google says it is a totally normal noise when the vibration motor is placed externally in the unibody, without being on the logic board. Which is obviously a lie, because the noise wasn't like this in the beginning
Hey guys. Have currently ordered my new 12 gb one plus 7 pro nebula blue and I can't wait till it arrives but had a quick question for everyone......
Has anyone noticed any major or minor bugs or glitches on the phone?
I'm coming from a huawei p20 pro and I know the os and everything is going to feel fluid and google like but it's a major step for one plus to go to a curved display and 2k display and 90 hertz display so it could be little experimental but I was just wondering if anyone was having any issues with the phone if they don't mind sharing. I would love to know.
I'm sorry if I put a duplicate thread but didn't notice a thread with bugs and issues.
And I did see online that people were experiencing "phantom" touches issues and was wondering if anyone else was having that issue and what I need to do to avoid it from happening to my phone.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I actually have ghost touch issues, and it seems a lot of people also got it, if not everyone. But due to the fact it happens under some condition, not everybody seems to be aware of it. You have to run your screen at 90Hz, with NFC enable, and launch some specific apps like CPU-Z or reddit for it to happens, because it seems the issue come from the NFC. I heard it was a software issue and Oneplus is working on it, and I hope it is, because if it's an hardware issue, I will sell my phone.
Well, if you can deal with this ATM, this is a very nice phone, I sold my S10 to get this one and I'm absolutely not disappointed!

So if I understood correctly. You're saying it is possible because of nfc connection being on?
It disappears if nfc is off? I barely use nfc anyways so hopefully my phone will be fine.
And hopefully it is software and not hardware issue. That would suck as I can't return it where I am atm and will have to wait a month or so before I can if it's hardware issue.
And to my understanding.... Oneplus had a software update that improved camera and performance etc... Did you install it and have you noticed the ghost issue gone or still present in the new update?
Thanks for the update

From my understanding the phantom touches issue is very rare. I havent havent had the issue. The only bug I have noticed is when a phone call ends, youre always taken back to the homescreen. So if youre on twitter or playing a game, once the call ends any app will auto close. Its annoying but nothing crazy and will most likely be fixed soon.

First time hearing about that one. But thanks for you input.
Not a deal breaker for me but I can see how that can get annoying.
Have you or anyone noticed the earpiece random noises when on the call like other people have?
Or it's just device specific?
I bought the phone Friday when it came out. So I'm scared I bought the phone too soon and I might get more bugs on my phone that anyone else's but only time will tell when I get the device in hand.
(I ordered it early but since I'm in Africa right now, I had to ship it to USA international then ship from there to me using a third party delivery shipping service. That's why I haven't received the phone yet and have been waiting for a while)

No I haven't had the earpiece bug either. Just the call ending issue.

That's good. Fingers crossed mine doesn't have any issues. My first oneplus device.
I've always wanted oneplus for their speed and oxygen os.
And the 7 pro really sold me with the 90hertz and that amazing speed and display.
I can't wait for the device to come in.
When did you buy and get the device? Ddi you guys order on Friday when it got out on the store like me or were you guys at the pop up event in New York or other places?

Yeah this is my first OnePlus device as well. I just switched from a Note 8 so I was already used to the edge display and I can say the edge display on this device is much better. The speed with 90hertz is also amazing and you can really tell the difference from 60hertz. The display is also great. With the front camera hidden inside the phone, the phone really feels like it is all display. Also the phone gets really bright making it easier to see in direct light and the night mode to tone down the blue light.... The greatest. I have sensitive eyes so looking at bright things at light was a rarity for me but this device can get really dark compared to phones Ive used in the past.
Anyways, I bought the phone the Friday when it went on sale. I had a lot of faith in OnePlus after hearing it do so well the past few years so I took the chance and got it.

Yea those are some of the reasons I got the phone as well. I'm coming from a used huawei p20 pro, a phone my brother passed on to me when he got the new mate 20 pro.
I've never bought a new phone. My first phone I ever bought was on contract which was the LG g4. Loved the curved back but screen didn't last for me (only one year in a 3 year contract at the time) then was using my back up phones until my brother gave me his p20 pro.
I've always wanted to try a curved screen display rather than curved back.
And I've been following one plus for a while, (I even got a referral for the oneplus one when they had a refferal service) but ended up selling it to someone else because I didn't trust oneplus back then but then after the other devices from one plus came out then I slowly gained interest.
And this oneplus 7 pro really caught my attention but these issues and bugs everyone is experiencing is really scaring me. If it's a hardware issue then I would have to take a long process to return the phone and I really don't want to do that.
Really hope it's a software issue and can get fixed in a future software update.
Or if I don't get the issues at all then that would be even better. Fingers crossed and will update the forum when my phone comes in.
I don't use the cpu app nor do I use nfc. So hopefully I don't encounter the issues but let's see. You never know
And how is the new update? Worth updating or made it worse?
Usually it's better but some people have been experiencing issues idk
Would love your input whether to skip that update when my phone comes or to download it right away
