Speaker quality issues - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Got a s8 plus. Just the other day i was using speaker phone and the quality of my speaker was so bad, i couldn't understand the person on the phone. What's weird is it doesnt always sound bad. I only use the speaker on three apps, YouTube, alarm, and phone call. And it's been hit and miss on all three apps. Anyone ever had this problem? Now here's my rant. After talking to Samsung and getting the run around, they've basically told me i have 2 options. 1. Send the phone in for repair which will take 9 to 11 days and i dont have an extra phone to replace it. 2. Use samsung premium care to file a claim, spend 100$ on deductible, and get a brand new phone. My problem with this is this isn't my fault. This is either a hardware or software problem. It seems like im being penalized for something that not my problem. Not to mention when i pay 900$ for a phone i expect it to last longer then 6 7 months with no problems. Not sure what im going to do but this will be my last samsung. Ive had to many problems with samsung that dates all the way back to the s5 to the s8 plus and everything in between.

I have this problem too.. Barely hear what other says in the phone speaker.. I have try all roms, rooted and unrooted..
Have you find the reason of this??

I had this problem when I took my phone in the shower to test the waterproofness. Suck on the speaker with your lips and then blow really hard into the speaker. Mine had a bunch of water inside lol

Fuze lost ear speaker sound...any help appreciated!!

Hey guys, got a phone that has been babied and never dropped. All of a sudden yesterday I lost ALL sound in the ear speaker. I did have the Montecristoff Tripp Audio 'fix' installed. I think this may be the problem because I haven't changed anything in quite some time. Anyone else experience this?
Don't know exactly what you mean by "ear speaker," but if you mean a wired headphone or earbud, my daughter experienced something like this on her iPhone. At the Apple store, they fished around inside the earbud jack and managed to remove a piece of lint or a crumb or something like that. Result: sound is back.
I had mine stop working one day and I hit the phone against the palm of my hand. (ear speaker side to the palm of my hand) Just don't hit it real hard. I hope this works for you.
just uninstall this fix & restart
i also had this problem, i return it to the repair center and they gave me a new phone
I had the same probelm, with speaker sometimes it works and sometime it doesnt...so i went to HTC service center and they had to replace the speaker and the motherboard
good luck
same thing happened to me. i took it to at&t store and was under warranty so they gave me a new one. something was broken internally. take it in now. dont wait. also be careful that your service provider doesnt charge you to replace it if they determine that you damaged it.
ATT replaced with mine 2 different times for the same problem. They offered a Blackberry Bold as an exchange, but I declined. So far things are goos on my 3rd warranty exchange.
Has anyone else had so many problems with the fuze, that an exchange to another device was offered?
I'm it that situation, but the tilt 2 seems to be too popular for the warranty dept to have any in stock. Getting a pure or an epix would be a downgrade, so I'm still holding my breath (bold is not a winmo... duh...)
Has anyone had any luck getting a tilt 2 as an exchange?
Had the same problem 4 weeks ago.
I reported it as "audio problems" and it got fixed under warranty.
So, i have this problem too.. it's looking that i have to go to the service.. But I live in Czech R. - it means - i can't/don't know, if they will believe me..

[Q] Anyone else with a buzzing earpiece?

I bet I'm not the only person with this problem, but I have a brand new Sensation with a buzzing speaker. I've taken the cover off and looked for hairs in the grille and whatnot, to no avail. I even took off the protective sticker to see if that helped anything... nope.
The problem gets worse as the volume goes up.
I bought this from of someone on Craigslist who was selling a couple of them, new in box (he had bought them at Wal-Mart). Should I contact HTC?

Yes. It should be coveted under warranty irregardless of where you bought it from as the device itself is only a month old. They do not need proof of purchase
Swyped from my HTC Sensation Pyramid using my thumb and eyes
Thanks -- Talked to both HTC and T-Mobile.
HTC said they would repair it if I sent it in. T-Mobile said that I needed the phone to show up on my account (I only bought it last night) before they could determine warranty info, and that I'd be better of getting the receipt (which I don't have) and taking it back to the store it was purchased from.
However, I took the liberty of taking the back casing off, taking the speaker protective sticker off, and blowing some air into the speaker area. That seems to have fixed the problem and it looks like I won't have to send them the phone after all.
I also have a buzzing noise. A first device I had was producing such a strong buzzing that I asked for an exchange. The second one is only producing this noise on certain calls and gets worse when increasing the volume. I an also wiling to try to clean buy I fear to void warranty by removing the sticker.
The sticker comes off very easily with a razor blade and is very easily replaceable. Remember, you're only removing a grille speaker, not the "void" sticker. Nobody could possibly be any the wiser.

That is very bad news. I was hoping that was the solution.
Crap, I swapped a pretty good working sensation having dust for a sensation having no dust but with a massive buzzing noise when having a conversation. Right now, I hate htc.

So, I will return my third sensation because of the buzzing problem. My shop is going to hate me so bad. On the other hand, no really my fault, is it?
But I will certainly not take another sensation for now. I will check back in a few months if htc has fixed the issues. I have no use for a phone that cannot make phone calls properly!
Can't believe htc is making such sophisticated devices, but is unable to make the mere phone function work properly.
I noticed my earpiece makes a light crackling noise when in phone calls. It does get worse with increased volume. I am going to deal with it for now and see if for some reason it gets better. I REALLY dont want to have to try and return my phone because I just returned another one and I dont want to be one of those people that abuses the warranty system.
Getting a buzzing on my new Sensation earpiece when on the phone, gutted right now. Just contacted HTC.
Sending my phone back, after 5 days, i can't stand it any longer!
Also have this problem... I'm going to try and replace it tomorrow
I hope they won't give me a refurbished one... I just bought mine on Saturday...
I noticed the buzzing yesterday. I have only had the phone for 3 days. I imagined I would be the only one having this problem. I don't have any problems returning the phone. I haven't returned one before, but I don't think I should have to settle for a brand new phone that can't perform its most simple function.
have the same problem ....
I replaced the phone today, after A TON of arguing with the store clerk... They were trying to make me send the phone to HTC warranty service, but in the end they gave in.
The new one only exhibits this problem moderately at the loudest speaker setting. Below or at medium it is not noticeable.
Overall I'm pleased with the outcome
so if this is a common issue
if I send my phone to the repair center how are they gonna repair it ...
Also the spare parts must be broken...
Not all of them are like that...Odds are you'd get a "better" device
Just got my Sensation today and am having the same issue: distortion at all volume levels - it sounds almost like a blown earpiece. I will probably end up exchanging it soon as I cannot stand the noise during calls.

call quality bad?

For some reason when I talk over the Phone without a head peice everyone tells me it sounds muffled or like if I had my mouth full of food. Could this be results of me still having the plastic the phone came with? Or its the phone its self?
+1 i have the same problem !
Yes, Me too
And it's my second phone.
I came from an HD2 and I'm not liking this phone.
The second phone is 10 times better all round but still not good.
Do they all have bad call quality?
I.e should I keep getting it replaced or repaired or accept it as it is?
When I've had bad call quality or reception previously O2 have sent me a new SIM Card. Why? Can the Sim affect these problems?
I exchanged the phone and SIM card but it's the same !
EDIT: I have a sound robotic after 50% of volume !
Have you tried recording to see if it's still there? I recorded myself right now and everything seems normal to me
Swyped from my HTC Sensation
My problem is that I hear bad in my phone speaker in call !
hey i guys i think i have a solution i was reading another thread where they were stating how you can get another battery cover by calling htc and complaining about the screen making a cracking noise. so i went ahead and did it and the battery cover i received in the mail gives me better reception and no drop calls which i was experiencing alot with the old battery cover. also i haven't been told that i sound muffled over the phone. i don't know if this is the solution but its worth you guys giving it a try
Thanks for that Info.
Certainly sounds like HTC in the US have acknowledged the problem.
I will call HTC Uk in the morning (and just hope they are aware of the problems and the new back cover)
I've had several converations with O2 and they acknowledged the problem as they kept asking me to repeat myself before it started going crackly and finally dropped the call.
After several attempt at a decent conversation I gave up and called them on the Landline
Called HTC today and seems like the back cover isn't a fix for this problem.
However Google is supposed to be working on a fix to give to HTC, and for me to keep an eye on the HTC website or HTC on Facebook.
I will probably have given up with the phone by then!

HTC USA sent me a new back cover because mine was awful. I also have crappy phone call quality both through the speaker and bluetooth. When I got the new back cover it fit much, although not perfectly. That being said, call quality is still crap so for me it has nothing to do with the cover. Called HTC back and they said they were aware and working on a fix. No timeframe for an update
I can confirm that certain sensations just have bad mics. I know 2 other friends with them and one of them has a bad mic like me. People often say that it sounds like I'm underwater at times. If I put a mic on, the problem goes away.

[Q] defective earpiece?

ive had my n5 for two days now and something that struck me right away was the muffled low quality earpiece it sounds like if somethings covering the opening or something. from the reviews ive read they all claim it to be surprisingly good and better than the n4's, but from what ive used it its night and day worse than my nexus 4 earpiece (which btw is a huge complement to the n4 cause that earpiece is complete garbage cause of the constant hissing noise in the background, the random loudness spikes and random beeps that almost leave me deaf) im starting to think i either have a defective earpiece or the call quality isnt set to the proper setting? its rooted and unlocked on stock 4.4. any suggestions? already reset phone settings am thinking of exchanging it but ehhh probably be 4 weeks b4 i get one
on a side note any news on paranoid android coming to n5?
edit i have the blk 32 gig model ordered from US play store
also id like to add that when i connect my earphones the call quality sounds the same which makes me believe its the call quality itself
My earpiece is really low also . I can barely hear anyone .
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
That background noise was really frustrating, none of the phones i have got ever had such a crappy issue. This thing is a phone FIRST and all the ****ing rest comes than...
RMA arrives today though, i do really hope this is good one.

Bottom speaker defect

Yeah well, was very happy with the device until today.
Bottom speaker produces horrible crackling sound when playing any sound. It's just defect from now to then.
Thanks to Amazon i can now send it for repair and am already sure that there will be anything like scratches, bad gaps or whatever...
Not even speaking of IP rating.
Did anyone else have a defect speaker? Because after that short time and rarely using it this is rather strange.
Actually i'm pretty pissed about Sonys quality. Always thought it was good, but some days ago my wife's X compact got a defect on screen and now this. Used htc since the original Desire and never had anything. Seems switching manufacturer is a bad idea
ALL manufacturers have defects. Getting my XZ2C next week, but issues like this are standard for any manufacturer and shouldn't put you off any brand. Either get your phone repaired, or deal with the crackling.
My HTC M7 failed once. My HTC M9 failed twice. My HTC 10 has also failed twice and on the second repair they scratched the backlight on the Recents button. Their quality control is the same. Such is life. Getting worked up about it won't solve anything.

Yes I also have a defect bottom speaker. Severe crackling above about 75% volume in the mid-ranges frequency-wise. I've owned it maybe three or four weeks? I'm thinking I may have to return the phone. I think you're perfectly justified in being pissed - I'm a bit pissed too - this is a $600 phone and getting speaker crackling this early in is pretty ridiculous. Maybe it's just a particle of dust/debris that's made it into the speaker but nevertheless there seems to be an issue with this phone's design and/or manufacturing as I've seen a couple other posts about this problem on Sony's site.
My Axon 7 had this issue as well but the speaker grill could be pretty easily cleaned with a sim ejector and that always resolved it. But the XZ2c seems to have a bit more of a tight area around the speaker which might be nearly impossible to clean without removing the screen assembly.

You can watch the xz2c teardown video on yt where you can see the internals. You can also see why they have to disassemble half of the phone for repair. There is a channel leading from the "gap" outside to the speaker inside. Regarding it is ip68 no piece of dust should make its way inside the speaker itself.
Apart from that i know how a broken speaker sounds and this one is broken. So either it is just a piece of s*** or they are powering it wrong. Can't remember ever having used it at 100% and even if it should be able to deal with it.
I bought a LG G6 as temporary replacement because it is ridicously cheap (paid 315€) and will send in my XZ2c tomorrow.
And while it is bigger and SD821 is noticeable after 835/845 you know what? It is also a good device...
Haven't decided yet if i'll keep the Sony after repair. Well first it has to be repaired (without damage).
