call quality bad? - HTC Sensation

For some reason when I talk over the Phone without a head peice everyone tells me it sounds muffled or like if I had my mouth full of food. Could this be results of me still having the plastic the phone came with? Or its the phone its self?

+1 i have the same problem !

Yes, Me too
And it's my second phone.
I came from an HD2 and I'm not liking this phone.
The second phone is 10 times better all round but still not good.
Do they all have bad call quality?
I.e should I keep getting it replaced or repaired or accept it as it is?
When I've had bad call quality or reception previously O2 have sent me a new SIM Card. Why? Can the Sim affect these problems?

I exchanged the phone and SIM card but it's the same !
EDIT: I have a sound robotic after 50% of volume !

Have you tried recording to see if it's still there? I recorded myself right now and everything seems normal to me
Swyped from my HTC Sensation

My problem is that I hear bad in my phone speaker in call !

hey i guys i think i have a solution i was reading another thread where they were stating how you can get another battery cover by calling htc and complaining about the screen making a cracking noise. so i went ahead and did it and the battery cover i received in the mail gives me better reception and no drop calls which i was experiencing alot with the old battery cover. also i haven't been told that i sound muffled over the phone. i don't know if this is the solution but its worth you guys giving it a try

Thanks for that Info.
Certainly sounds like HTC in the US have acknowledged the problem.
I will call HTC Uk in the morning (and just hope they are aware of the problems and the new back cover)
I've had several converations with O2 and they acknowledged the problem as they kept asking me to repeat myself before it started going crackly and finally dropped the call.
After several attempt at a decent conversation I gave up and called them on the Landline

Called HTC today and seems like the back cover isn't a fix for this problem.
However Google is supposed to be working on a fix to give to HTC, and for me to keep an eye on the HTC website or HTC on Facebook.
I will probably have given up with the phone by then!

HTC USA sent me a new back cover because mine was awful. I also have crappy phone call quality both through the speaker and bluetooth. When I got the new back cover it fit much, although not perfectly. That being said, call quality is still crap so for me it has nothing to do with the cover. Called HTC back and they said they were aware and working on a fix. No timeframe for an update

I can confirm that certain sensations just have bad mics. I know 2 other friends with them and one of them has a bad mic like me. People often say that it sounds like I'm underwater at times. If I put a mic on, the problem goes away.

Sound from ear piece is too distort

Is it just my pro? or are most like that? I just got my pro yesterday, and they ear piece sounds too distort. It sounds like a crappy earpiece, it vibrates and sounds way too fuzzy and buzzy and distorted. Is there any way to fix that? or should I take it back for another pro?
same problem here
My ear piece sounds distorted (muffled), no matter who i call, when i switch to the speaker or put on the headsets that came with the phone it sounds awesome.
i purchased mine through bestbuy and sprint.
i went to bestbuy today to try and exchange it because this is the only problem i have with this phone and the new phone that the CSR took out of a new box had the same problem.
I think this is with all of the sprint htc touch pros, i guess more people should reply to this thread and let us know if they have the same problem of not.
i emailed htc about this and they said to hard reset the phone......why would that fix the problem since i just bought it saturday and i havent put much of anything on it.
ANYONE THAT CAN POST THEIR EXPERIENCE, IT WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
I went to sprint and I tried out the Diamond, the speaker on it, sounded a bit better than mine. And yes its just the ear piece on the phone, on speaker it sounds normal, and as well with the headset. Unfortunately all best buys around my area are sold out...
Take the plastic cover off the front plate. It is covering the ear piece causing the sound to be muffled.
I purchased two Touch Pro's from best buy...two different stores, and can confirm that the audio is completely different between the two. One is perfect...audio is wayyy better than my previous mogul. My wife's touch pro however sounds aweful, totally distored at every volume level.
Called sprint last night, they said the phone was too new for them to comment and that they haven't recieved any complaints about the issue.
Unfortunately, there are no more touch pro's in denver to exchange with so...I'll have to hold on till the next batch arrives at best buy.
Mine sounds OK at medium volume, but with the volume up all of the way, it sounds terrible! I bought mine at Best Buy (St. Louis) on 10/27
same problem.. have not talked enough yet to really care. just got last night, so i will know in a day or two if i can stand it.
definitley the same experience here, muffled sound from the ear piece and, yes, I did remove the plastic. Almost sounds like a busted speaker sounds. It has been this way from straight out the box (Sunday monring at best buy in IL)
I did apply the audio patch to increase the volume... but it didn't help. It's really tinny at higher volumes. It is actually painful to listen to!
has anyone tried doing a hard reset after encountering this problem?
and if so, did it work or is it the same?
Hard reset has been performed twice, and I still have the problem. I don't think its software related, rather than the speaker itself. It sounds like a very crappy speaker, like a toy. At high pitch noises, it crackles and its horrible. it sounds tinny, like a tin can. Imagine 99 cent ear buds bought at a 99 cent store, and playing something like metallica on them. It sounds horrible.
Unfortunately, I am having the same problem. I removed the plastic cover and it helped a bit, but there is obviously still a problem.
On my old Samsung, I always had the volume level to the earpiece turned all the way down and I could hear all calls perfectly. On the Touch Pro, I have to crank the earpiece as loud as it will go and the voices are still very muffled and sound distant. I do not know if perhaps I got a bad unit, but if I was in a crowded room or driving with the windows down, I would not be able to have a conversation even with the volume at maximum.
This may be a deal breaker.
Can someone please post the info for the registry hack and how it has worked for others?
just went to bestbuy, exchanged my phone, and haleluya, it now sounds like my olg htc mogul and like every phone is suppose to sounds, CRYSTAL CLEAR....
thanks to everyone for the postings....if you have this problem, exchange, do not wait for a firmware upgrade, because this might be the hardware which a FW upgrade cannot fix.
After a week with my phone, they finally got more in stock, went to best buy and exchanged it, now it sounds crystal clear. Exchange it! Problem solved.
But what about the volume, has that been heightened on the two new phones purchased from bestbuy

the volume has not been heightened, now it just sounds clear.
to me the phones earpiece never needed to be louder.
but thats just me
It's definately a hardware issue, I had this issue, exchanged it at BB, and now it's gone. I went from abuild date of 10/14 to 10/15
ruined,
how do you determine the build date? I have the same issue, so guess I will be exchanging mine too, but if there is a way to determine if the new one I get is from a bad batch before I activate it, that would be good.

My earpiece was great till last week!! Now it sounds like it was busted. Vibrates a lot. As HTC doesn't support my country, does anyone knows how to remove the earpiece?

[Q] Anyone else with a buzzing earpiece?

I bet I'm not the only person with this problem, but I have a brand new Sensation with a buzzing speaker. I've taken the cover off and looked for hairs in the grille and whatnot, to no avail. I even took off the protective sticker to see if that helped anything... nope.
The problem gets worse as the volume goes up.
I bought this from of someone on Craigslist who was selling a couple of them, new in box (he had bought them at Wal-Mart). Should I contact HTC?

Yes. It should be coveted under warranty irregardless of where you bought it from as the device itself is only a month old. They do not need proof of purchase
Swyped from my HTC Sensation Pyramid using my thumb and eyes
Thanks -- Talked to both HTC and T-Mobile.
HTC said they would repair it if I sent it in. T-Mobile said that I needed the phone to show up on my account (I only bought it last night) before they could determine warranty info, and that I'd be better of getting the receipt (which I don't have) and taking it back to the store it was purchased from.
However, I took the liberty of taking the back casing off, taking the speaker protective sticker off, and blowing some air into the speaker area. That seems to have fixed the problem and it looks like I won't have to send them the phone after all.
I also have a buzzing noise. A first device I had was producing such a strong buzzing that I asked for an exchange. The second one is only producing this noise on certain calls and gets worse when increasing the volume. I an also wiling to try to clean buy I fear to void warranty by removing the sticker.
The sticker comes off very easily with a razor blade and is very easily replaceable. Remember, you're only removing a grille speaker, not the "void" sticker. Nobody could possibly be any the wiser.

Crap, I swapped a pretty good working sensation having dust for a sensation having no dust but with a massive buzzing noise when having a conversation. Right now, I hate htc.

So, I will return my third sensation because of the buzzing problem. My shop is going to hate me so bad. On the other hand, no really my fault, is it?
But I will certainly not take another sensation for now. I will check back in a few months if htc has fixed the issues. I have no use for a phone that cannot make phone calls properly!
Can't believe htc is making such sophisticated devices, but is unable to make the mere phone function work properly.
I noticed my earpiece makes a light crackling noise when in phone calls. It does get worse with increased volume. I am going to deal with it for now and see if for some reason it gets better. I REALLY dont want to have to try and return my phone because I just returned another one and I dont want to be one of those people that abuses the warranty system.
Getting a buzzing on my new Sensation earpiece when on the phone, gutted right now. Just contacted HTC.
Sending my phone back, after 5 days, i can't stand it any longer!
Also have this problem... I'm going to try and replace it tomorrow
I hope they won't give me a refurbished one... I just bought mine on Saturday...
I noticed the buzzing yesterday. I have only had the phone for 3 days. I imagined I would be the only one having this problem. I don't have any problems returning the phone. I haven't returned one before, but I don't think I should have to settle for a brand new phone that can't perform its most simple function.
have the same problem ....
I replaced the phone today, after A TON of arguing with the store clerk... They were trying to make me send the phone to HTC warranty service, but in the end they gave in.
The new one only exhibits this problem moderately at the loudest speaker setting. Below or at medium it is not noticeable.
Overall I'm pleased with the outcome
so if this is a common issue
if I send my phone to the repair center how are they gonna repair it ...
Also the spare parts must be broken...
Not all of them are like that...Odds are you'd get a "better" device
Just got my Sensation today and am having the same issue: distortion at all volume levels - it sounds almost like a blown earpiece. I will probably end up exchanging it soon as I cannot stand the noise during calls.

[Q] Anyone having a problem with the earpiece sound?

Dear all,
Anyone having a problem with the earpiece sound on their Sensation, i.e. the crap lousy sounding earpiece saturating and distorting during a call?
I've bought my Vodafone branded SIM-Unlocked Sensation in Germany, and it is a problem for me to send it back for replacement at the moment. Also heard of another person having the same problem and the replacement did not help in his case, the new one had the same issue.
I was just wondering whether it is a hardware or software related problem? In case of the former I will have no choice but to send it back to the store for replacement.
Maybe some official feedback from HTC itself on the issue?
Please provide your feedback asap. Your reply is much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
the other person was me.
Yes, earpiece saturates like a fuzzy guitar on high pitched voices, eg: female.
I replaced it because of that. and the problem is the exact same. So its a crap hardware speaker problem. people don't seem to mind much or don't notice. I do, but im a bit of an audiophile: http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/sets/72157623318631384/detail/
Ill just live with it I guess.
I had this issue too. I had the device replaced. It is a little better, but the problem is also present. Anyway, now I have dust under the screen so I will have to replace it again. Hope the next earpiece won't be crap again!
I read someone here in the forum who removed the sticker on the earpiece and blew air inside. He apparently partly solved this issue by doing this
I thought about doin that too, removing the protective filter on the speaker. Not too sure, If i cant live with the AUO screen issue, and if the sount distortion bothers me too much, I'll just have to get another phone.
I mean, its a phone, if it sounds bad, it can have 200 cores, it wont make it anybetter for me.
Bad news it could be hardware related. Was waiting for the phone for a long time and now this. Money not well spent in this case. I had better stayed on my DHD. I hope I don't have this dusty screen issue in addition. Will maybe return it to the seller and opt for some other phone.

Do you by any chance remember his nickname or maybe a post regarding his attempt to remove the protective sticker so that we could contact him and ask for an update on solving the issue this or another way?
I myself have also sent an e-mail to the HTC Support regarding this so let's see how they respond. Will post back their letter here in the thread when received.

As promised the official response of the HTC support team:
"Thank you for contacting HTC
Unfortunately we can not identify the issue with your device, you must refer your device to a service centre.
you can try few options:
1.Please back up your personal data and perform Factory Data reset, menu – settings – SD & Phone storage - Factory Data reset
2. Change your Sim card plastic part to a new one (tariff and number should remain same)
Sincerely,
HTC"
Ah well, imma gonna try removing the earpiece filter.
My speaker sounds bad when I am talking to my gf on a vibrant, but I just received a phone call from a land line, and it was crystal clear. I got no idea why this is happening. HTH

Their reply is completely useless. Nice try though.
I have seen this come up a few times and my SIM is from 2003 I believe so..
Why would getting a new sim card fix any issues?
I was unable to find any information about change in SIM cards
Does anyone know more?

No, it is not like the voice is cutting out, but the earpiece sound buzzing all the time during a call, especially when you turn up the in-call volume. I also tried removing the protective earpice sticker and blowing some air into the earpice, but it did not help at all.
And I don't think it has anything to do with the SIM card life cycle. So in the end I'm puzzled.
I have the same "buzzzing" issue and i went with it to htc service. I was surprised to find that the guy from romania htc service has an htc sensation with the same problem. He changed the earpiece the body case but with no success . Conclusion - software issue . Oh, i also changed the earpiece but nothing.
EDIT
Flashed Android Revolution HD™ 3.5.1 XE | High Quality & Performance | OC | faux 0.1.6 .
Seems that buzzing noise has gone.

Voice call quality

Hi guys, so far love the phone, came from a GSII.
My concern is that people are complaining that the voice quality on the call recipient's end is robotic and muddy sounding. They often complain that they can barely hear me or make out what i am saying. I am not calling them from a noisey environment, it is from a quiet room.
Anyone else??
after 174 views, no one can confirm or deny the same issue? Can anyone please comment on call quality?
Nobody's mentioned it to me yet, and I've made quite a few calls. I'd use the land line and call myself, but that's one of those psychological things where I'd be biased that my own voice either A) sounds like **** or B)sounds perfectly normal.
No issues here, I've only made a handful of calls but so far no one has complained.

I received my replacement one s due to call quality issues and the new one is even worse. everyone says i sound like im in a tin can as my voice is SUPER muffled. they can hear when i start and stop talking but the words just arent sharp enough to hear anything. wtf is going on with this phone?
I'm actually experiencing this with mine on Telus. It's especially noticable when it's on speakerphone. Never had any issues with my previous phones, but with this one I have to repeat myself a whole lot.
No issues on Tmob us.
I have issues sometimes hearing the caller on the end - the audio is distorted and robotic even when I have full bars. Did not have any issues on my old phone.
If I turn down the volume it helps with the distortion so it definitely seems to be from the device itself.
Are you using a case? I had a few complaints when I was using D3 case. Mic was so deep in little hole in case. Since I have switched to a Cruzerlite case( best and slimmest One S case of all!) all is well and have had zero complaints.
Sent from my HTC One S using Xparent Cyan Tapatalk 2
Case or no case, makes no difference. It's quite infuriating. I'm on my second phone and it exhibits the same problems.
My fiancee just got this phone a few days ago and I've noticed her voice sounds scratchy and robotic when I talk to her. Her previous 3 phones never did this. Sometimes her One-S even drops the call when she has 2 and 3 bars of signal which is really odd. We are taking the phone back Monday to see if we can either exchange it for another one or get another phone.
I thought I read somewhere that this phone uses some new technology that reduces background noise and I'm wondering if perhaps the sound quality is a software issue.
I have the same issue, but only if i am holding the phone on my left ear with my shoulder. No issues on right side.
The only issue I have is the voice on the other end is more quiet and I have to ask to repeat (even though the volume is turned up high to hear the other party).
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
I've had this issue with most of the T-Mobile phones(G1,HD2,MT3GS,MT4G,MT4GS,One S) I have had. I always assumed that it was an issue with the network.
My issue is when I squeeze the phone between my cheek and shoulder, people cant even understand me. I've never had an issue like this with another phone.

[Q] crackled/annoying speaker sound

Hi im new to the sensation.
I just bought a sensation and i was happy about a good deal.
But later on when i tested the phone i did notice one problem,
the phones front speaker is makeing a crackled/annoying sound during calls.
I have a hard time hearing people some times, i did read some threads about people having this problem. But nothing that actually helped me, some say they flashed a new rom and all solved and some say they took the plastic or something from the speaker. Anyone here that had this problem and has just simply replaced the speaker, and then if it has worked like charm efter?
//Virtualxp
You could download an RUU which is official htc. Run it and if it fixes problem, great, if not, RMA
What is ruu and Rma? What do they stand for?

Ok so i tried Skype after reading some, and the sound in skype was pretty good didn't notice the crackled so much sound there. I have made a hard reset but that didn't solve it, took the backcase off and polished the the copper plate that pushed into the holder of the simcard and that made the sound better to. Could it maybe be the back case? someone with a idea =)?
