Odd horizontal scratches at the bottom of the back glass - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I noticed just recently what look like horizontal scratches at the bottom of the back glass. I can't feel the scratches and they actually appear to be on the inside. It's like something had scratched the paint from within the inside. I always keep my S8+ in the Spigen case apart from taking it out of the case to use it in the Gear VR. The case completely hides these scratches and I only noticed it when taking it off the Gear VR. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I just can't figure out what could have caused these and hope that the water resistance is not compromised in some way as a result of this.

Maybe the Gear VR caused it while taking in and out?

That's my only guess so far although I didn't think there was that much force getting applied. The only other thing I can think of is that I was sitting in a theater recently and the phone was in my pocket pressed against the cup holder.

Does the clear view case still scratch the screen?

With the S6 Edge, the clear view cover scratched many screen. Is this the same with the S6 edge+?

Not really
Hello there
I've been using Clear View cover for about a month or so, and so farl not getting any signs of scratching the screen, however the case itself suffered more than a few scratches which is a pretty good fail since this case isn't really cheap. So answer is no, I'll be watching to see if it does.

Hi,
Using the clear view case for about a month now. Not a single scratch on the screen or the case.
Don't know about the clear case, but the s view cover is scratching the screen slightly. Had this issue with the official s view cover by samsung. Switched over to Rearth Fusion one.
No issues for me, have been using the S-View case for a few months now.

Does anyone know HOW it is scratching the screen? Is it a design flaw?

Did you ever play with a balloon as a kid, rub it real fast, back and forth a bunch of times against your shirt or the carpet and then held it up on top of your head? If you did you'd notice that your hair suddenly is attracted to that balloon, as if it's a magnet. It's because rubbing it against your shirt or the carpet created static electricity and now your balloon full of negative charge. If you run it against anything with a positive charge it'll attract it, like a magnet.
Same idea with the cover, except that the balloon is the cover. The materials it's made of after awhile of opening and closing it begins to create a field of static charge, similar to the balloon and it starts to attract dust, sand, dirt, the tiny little particles inside your pockets or purse. Now all that crap on there built itself up along the inside of the cover and since your phones in your pocket, as you're walking around, its shuffling inside your pocket there...
And guess what happens when there's debris stuck inside that cover as you're just going about your day...?
Give up....?
You get scratches on your screen!
A speck of sand is tiny, most don't even realise it's there, yet it can cause some damage on a screen.
Basically the materials Samsung used to make that cover is rubber like, which is prone to building up static, so an expensive screen, tiny dirt particles and static prone materials are not a good mix.
Ways to avoid this?
1. Wash your jeans more often
2. Always have a clean/dirt or particle free purse
3. Avoid using the cover unless Samsung remakes it with static free materials.
I wonder if throwing a dryer sheet in your pocket works to eliminate static build up?
Hmm... well, if anything your phone and anything else down there should smell fresh and clean.
The cover looks really cool but not cool enough for me to risk my screen.
I'd feel pretty stupid to spend $60, with the intention to protect my phone with something that actually increases the potential to damage it.
Heard Samsung is aware of this and replaced screens free because of it, so maybe they reformulated the materials in it? Can't imagine they'd continue selling it, knowing they'd have to fix every screen that bought the cover. The cost to replace a screen is likely more than profit for the case, I'd think...?

According to three local shops here in NL Samsung did a massive recall of the first series Clear View Covers and replaced them with a revised version that apparently solved the scratching.. The version I bought today definitely looks different from the first generation I had on my normal S6

Help! Bezel Rotation Broken?

I purchased my Gear S2 on release day last month, and so far all has been good up until yesterday.
I was turning the bezel to check my notifications, and noticed it started to get really stiff. To the point where it was nearly impossible to turn it. I turned it a bit harder and it started turning again, still controlling the device, but there was no longer any "clicks" that the bezel usually makes when scrolling through things and it was still really stiff and hard to turn. No matter which way I turned it. It also started producing bits and pieces of some sort of rubber from underneath the bezel that I could somewhat pull off. You can feel the stainless steel grinding when you rotate it now, which is really concerning me. I'm thinking whatever mechanism helps the bezel rotate underneath somehow broke and I'm not sure what to do at this point. The device is still fully functional, but the bezel is nearly unusable, and that's kind of the reason I bought the Gear S2.
Any suggestions? I bought it from Best Buy off-contract on October 2nd.
Any ideas?

Send it back and claim warranty?
Call samsung support
Just to anyone who might come across this thread with the same problem, I took the device to the Best Buy that I purchased it from and they were able to exchange it because it was still under warranty

I called Samsung with a similar issue. My bezel hasn't gotten stiff yet but the indicator "white dot" that goes around the watch face while turning the bezel sometimes goes the wrong way while scrolling through apps or reading email . This is only my 5th day with the watch. I love it BUT...I'm afraid this will get worse the longer I have it. I bought the watch from AT&T full retail. AT&T does not want to swap it and Samsung wants me to send it in for repair. I'm still within the 14 day return window at AT&T so I may just do that. Even though it will cost me $35 to do that :/
You will need to exchange it. I think what may have happened is that sand or grit has gotten under the bezel. This can happen even with a Swiss watch. The fact that it is hard to turn is usually an indication of this happening.
This has happened to mine after only 1 week. And I'm very gentle with it. The bezel is impossible to turn. I got the 3G version.
Fixed
When my Gear S2 started to feel resistive I used less than a drop of Super Lube around the rotating ring and worked it in a little. Better than new now. Rotates smooth with that sweet notch feel. I'm never without a pen super lube precision oiler in my pocket while at work. Part Number 51010. Amazon.

I wouldn't use an oil based lubricant on the bezel of the Gear S2. As was discussed in another thread, the Gear S2 is IP68 water resistant, which means it probably has a rubber seal underneath the bezel. Oil based lubricants may damage rubber seals and gaskets, so it is probably better to just rinse the watch with warm water. Since the Gear S2 is IP68 water resistant, holding it under the faucet and turning the bezel won't harm it. When my bezel gets sticky, I usually just take the band off and hold it under the kitchen faucet while turning the bezel.
The bezel has completely come off my s2 at some point and is lost. I've written to Samsung support and they wrote back with 3 suppliers ..... Useless information as they don't do any spares for the s2 ...... So I'm in limbo . In my opinion Samsung after care is rubbish

gun oil fixed the issue every time it gets hard put a lil in the cracks n turn it
just rinse the watch in water it will clear the dust and dirt under the bezel and it will go back to working fine
The same exact issue has happened to my galaxy watch. That is how I found this thread and im sure others will be searching too so im replying even though its old. The bezel would stick and I would force it to turn and it would be fine and then small black chunks of some type of plastic began appearing from underneath it so I spent some time turning it over and over again and then removing these chunks and it has worked just fine since it stopped producing the black chunks of whatever. It seems like some type of plastic. I was thinking the backing from an adhesive tape but at the same time hoping it was not part of a gasket to keep water out. I wear the galaxy watch in the shower and so far it has been fine. This is my first switch from apple to Samsung and have gone through 3 first gen apple watches because the screen randomly falls off. I was not expecting to have issues with a near $400 Samsung watch. as long as its still waterproof then there really is not an issue but I would like to know what is coming out of my watch and why...It doesn't seem like a major issue so far though.

From my understanding the bezels operate by ceramic ball bearings what ever color. Which also means there has to be some kind of springs inside as well to Hold appropriate pressure on the ball bearing to give the rolling clicks. I am a mechanic so dirt grease and grime are everyday things for my watch and up til recently I rinse mine randomly to get the gunk out

LED and HR monitor question

Hi everyone
I have a problem with LED and HR monitor glass. When I removed the plastic that came with phone in a few days I noticed little scratches on the glass that cover LED and HR monitor. Its not big deal since it does not affect picture quality nor HR sensor but i came here to ask if there is any way to buy that little plastic protectors for camera and LED-HR monitor glass. Every screen protector kit that I looked does not include protectors for that.
The HR-LED was scratched on my first galaxy s6 too, i took off the plastic cover only to find a big scratch on the actual glass, you and me are not the only ones complaining about this issue.

Yes I know that this is a issue with SGS 6. Lot of posts on forums about this problem. I just wanted to know is there any way to buy that little plastic foil just to prevent further scratches and damage. Its not problem to buy some screen protector kit if thats the only way to get that little foil but I cant find anything. Even from Samsung not any help.

There might be but its very small and very specific, since so many people see it scratched they wont bother to prevent further scratching so i dont think that theres a store that manufactures such plastic, you probably have a better chance asking samsung directly but i might be wrong.
I would be more worried about the camera lens than the entire backside of the phone so i usually do something very simple, i always store my phone into a bag of double soft cloth, that way i can feel safe that the phone is protected from all directions.
Use clear nail polish.

Is it likely that this "divot" in the body cause future problems?

Somehow I managed to chip a "divot" out of the body of my s7 (the regular one, not the galaxy edge). It's a roughly circular divot about 1cm in diameter, located at the 1:00 position above the front camera, on the very edge of the body where it rounds over to the front screen and just narrowly missing the front screen itself. I'm not noticing any problems so far. So, probably annoying but not fatal.
A picture would be good if you can take it, but odds are if it works now, you'll be fine.

Here you go. You can see just how small the hole really is, but I don't want cracks to propagate from the edges. I wonder if there's something I can fill in the divot with. I've done some googling but people are mostly concerned about scratches.
I wouldn't worry too much about that -- it hit the aluminum and doesn't seem to have caused a separation in the seam.
Typically mars like that are considered normal wear and tear, and shouldn't affect your warranty. I've traded in/warrantied phones with marks like that all the way around the edges.
Did you post this on reddit asking what you could fill in that "diviot" with by anychance?!
Fill it with Aluminium filler and primer used for Alloy rims. I have done that on Galaxy S6. If you do it with patience, will not be very visible.

Does someone know what are these stains ?

Hey guys,
So as i was admiring my S7 from all angles (truly a beautiful phone) under the sunlight, i noticed something weird. Just above the front speaker grill, i noticed 2 stains in like a form of pyramide. I tried to wipe it off, but nothing. So im afraid its maybe water (since it was raining hard the past week) or i don't know, maybe humidity ? What could it be ? Its midly annoying, could it be the sign that the "waterproofing" of my phone is deficient?
take a close look
http://imgur.com/a/OMWSA
I tried differents method to try to remove it. I tried to like "sucking" it out with my mouth as i though maybe its water but nothing, i also tried to use my hairdryer and proceed to put it in front of the speaker but still nothing.
Do you think its something that could be considered serious ? should i try to repair it in a center ?
I never used it in water and i bought the phone brand new 1 month ago, case and screen protector since day 1.
Looks like the paint coating is peeling off from the front glass. This happened to my friend on her s5, and I've heard several people with s7 have the same issue.

If u have warranty, take it to samsung. It's ridiculous for a 1 month old phone to already have paint peeling off issues.
I mean, that's only estethic, it won't cause any other issues, it just looks ugly.
The paint is like a sticker that is glued on the glass, and it tends somstimes to unpeel if the glue isn't applied well.
