cracked screen

So yesterday I went out to dinner, grabbed my trusty TP2 and put it in my pocket (uncracked), reached out location and pulled it out (cracked). I know there was no impact between the two locations as I simply sat in a car the whole way.
Anyone else have something similar? Glad I have insurance, that's for sure.

Is it possible you had the screen facing out in your pocket? What I mean by that is when I keep mine in my pocket I make sure the screen is against my leg and not facing forward.. Either way, good thing indeed that you have insurance..

it is, but its a coat pocket. I Just couldn't believe it happened as I've had a touch screen phone for the last...3 or 4 years without issue.

if you have made fun of someone that has a case on there hip that is why it happend to you if not then its bad luck.

do you really believe that crack could appear after no physical impact?

I've seen crazier things happen. My one thought was that its quite cold here right now. Either way, I definitely didn't have any impact that I felt, which shouldn't be enough to crack a screen like this did. I just expect more out of HTC I guess.

A screen protector like invisible shield would help i have it on mine...only thing i hear is that when used in ur pocket it can pick up a lot of lint but so far mine hasn't had that problem. any little bit of dust i see on it i just rub it off

I've got ghost armor, when they get back in stock and i claim my insurance i'm going to start using a slip in case.

Yep. A couple of days ago I got into a car, the TP2 in my pocket (which was hanging...unzipped jacket) closed the door and crack! Lovely cracks spread across the screen of my beloved and not even 30-day-old TP2.
I should have known better, The same thing happened to one of my Moguls earlier this year. The weird thing is, the TP2 still works perfectly. I tried to get a return authorization, but Sprint referred me Assurion, which means $100 deductible. The only good thing about it is that the TP2 is so new, they don't have any refurbs to send out, so I'm getting a new one, with one year warranty. From now on, cases only... no pockets!
Not sure what happened in your case,

A: My assurion deductable was $39... I could have sworn it was $89.
B: I need to find a good stiff slide in vertical case that I can just slide the phone into and out of in my pocket.
C: Assurion says they'll get my phone to me Tuesday (i.e. out Monday).... either they're full of cow chips or they purchased a stock just in case since Verizon is apparently trickling in shipments.

what was the temperature outside ?
if it was decently cold, and your phone was cold as well, cold things always crack easier, especially with a screen this big. smaller the screen, harder it is to break.

haha, well it was cold for this time of year. nothing terrible. about 20 degrees F. I know the size matters, I just couldn't believe it cracked so easily so I was really just fishing to see if its a possible problem. My replacement will be here today and i've been trying to find a good STIFF slide in vertical case I can just keep in my pocket.

I live in Canada and on occasion it gets down to -25 degress c here (-13F)
and I have left many cellphones out in the cold, with no ill effects (although screen response can slow down dramatically while it's cold)
the only thing that would crack it is a dramatic change in temp. over a short period of time, like 80 to -5 and I don't even know about that.
a screen skin is NOT going to prevent cracking, only scratches, the LCD glass is on the inside of the device and a think film doesn't add anything to stability.
my guess is it got flexed are banged in the wrong spot. possibly a few days earlier which weakened it and then lightly banged again when you put it in your pocket...
of course a defect in the internal glass is possible, when you get in to mass production of a product there are bound to be some defects.
mine on the other hand has traveled 10 feet across from say 4 feet up and hit pavement with no more than a 1mmx3mm indent on a corner.
it's in general a well build device (but boy was I sick when that first happened)
My advice, if your insurance costs money.. bring it in with a little story.

As long as it is a solid crack across the screen with no obvious point of impact, I am pretty sure you will get away with it.. even with out insurance.

Football, Telus here in Canada has a thin hard plastic case for 15 canadian.
it will even prevent your screen from getting scratched. and makes that annoyingly placed "power"/screen blank button harder to push. I am pretty sure all the cdma devices are the same, but I don't know 100% I ordered a verison screen protector, and it fits. but the tolerances aren't as high for that

BTW... If you were looking at the phone in the upright position, the screen cracking started from the left middle of the screen and made it's way across to the bottom right corner. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same pattern.

To keep it short, I know, I know, I know, and I know. lol. (Just for an interesting note, being in South Dakota for College I've had it around that cold without a windchill... walking to class and having your eyelashes freeze in a block sucks.)
I was more or less just trying to come up with the most plausible excuse even though I was sure (99.999%) it wasn't the cold. It just completely blew me away that I pulled it out and there was cracks across the screen because at the point I hadn't even dropped the phone and as previously mentioned I wasn't leaning or really touching anything while riding in the car.
Also, generally its not actually glass that's on resistive touchscreen's as far as I know. I wasn't trying to insinuate that the screen skin would help stability at all (actually stiffness... don't get my started about this I've been dealing with stiffness matrices WAY to much lately in class).
I agree in general it seems quite well built, and agree if my case is isolated but I was wanting to make sure it was. A point of note is that the crack originated on the far right side and propogated in a couple of lines across the screen. Really my guess is that the method they use to connect the "glass" (a plastic..?) produces some residual stresses around the edges of the material.
Finally, where do you get the case you have? I really just want a slip case as I mentioned that is pretty stiff so that anything that may possible break the screen gets spread out over the area of the case. I am trying to stay away from a snap on hard case as I find them bulky, get your device dirty, and really don't protect what I want to protect.

mine cracked middle right and propagated in a crack more or less horizontally across the device and another at about a 45 degree angle towards the bottom of the screen. The instances sound similar just reversed.

The reason your screen cracked was most likely it pressed up against the seatbelt buckle. I have had this happen a couple of times. When driving now I ALWAYS take my phone out of my pocket or remove the case from my belt. As I said, a couple times I left it there and when I buckled up, the buckle of the seatbelt was pressed against my right hip. A little bit of pressure, like from stopping the car, is enough to crack the glass.
So word to the wise, do NOT leave your phone in your pocket or on your belt when you get into a car. Or if you do, put it on the side of your body that is facing away from the seat belt buckle.

Haha, I already do this. Actually, I was in the passenger seat and the phone was in the right pocket of my fleece jacket. I'm just the jacked it what damned me because normally when I put it in my pants I have the screen facing my leg.

What, if any, issues/manufacturing faults did you experience with your Z3?

I wanted to create this topic because I am curious and because I see many people asking if this phone isn't too fragile or has QC issues. I believe that the people with problems are the vocal minority but the best way to find out is to have a poll.
So, have you found any faults or is your device right as a little (Xperia) ray of sunshine?

1st phone: defective camera (purple noise)
2nd phone: USB flap misalign when closed
3rd and current phone: so far so good

My first phone's screen had an area in a line from top to bottom, right of centre that had no touch sensitivity. The area was about .5 cm wide.
I couldn't touch anything on the line or drag anything across it.
I contacted Amazon.co.uk and they sent me a new one right away. They also let me hang onto the defective one until the replacement arrived without charging me.

My phone is perfect. The USB flap is a teeny tiny bit, like a fraction of a milimeter, misaligned but the seal is intact, I do not intent to take my phone into the pool anyway and thought it was pointless to go through the hassle of returning an otherwise flawless phone for something half of my friends can't see when I point it out. My carpenters eye is ridiculously accurate so meh.

The back glass scratched a few hours after removing cover. Ive only has the phone for 2 days and Bell wont take it back with damages. The phone has only ever been in my otherwise empty pocket...
Anyone else experiencef this? I thought both were gorilla glass.

I don't think the back is as scratch resistant as the front, as I too have very minor scratches on the back, using front and back tempered glass protects now.

My unit only has a slight annoyance which is the headphone jack is wobbly. It has about less than 1mm of wiggle room. I can see a gap between the metal body and the Jack. The Jack works perfectly currently.
Don't know if it's worth bringing to the Sony store, or to just seal it with some super glue or something. :/

Took some underwater pictures at the aquarium, thought it'd be cool.

That's what I'm assuming. I could also hear air bubbles when squeezing my device... :/
It worked fine for a while, I even rinsed it off in the sink after exposing it to the water. (It was fresh water, but there were fish in it) No more than 6 inches submerged for like 30 seconds. Was going through the pictures and the touchscreen just stopped working.

In reality, from what I have read, some are not waterproof out of the box. So sad to hear this when Sony advertised this phone as waterproof. Before submerging, did you try the water test via software (pressure sensor)?

Yes(Although I don't really think the test proves the waterproofness), I had also had it completely submerged for 10 minutes when I bought the device.

This really sucks because there is no way we can tell if it is waterproof until we really submerge it. I am going to avoid submerging mine at all cost.

I had some problems with this new phone.
1: no nfc working
2: horizontal section from 9 to 177 of the touchscreen doesnt work properly
So i get a third replacement by SFR (in France) and I think I get a fully working Z3.
I love the advertisement of Sony for ils Z3 in France : demand perfection (exigez la perfection)!

I've had 2 copper Z3's. First one, front glass shattered whilst in my front left pocket, nothing else in the same pocket. I've carried all my phones in the same manner and never had an issue. Also had the pink spot issue.
Second phone has 2 stuck pixels.
I really like the phone. They just don't like me

Got a replacement from T-Mobile, the camera button seems to be stuck.. Only works like 20% of the time. Instead of feeling like a dual stage button, it's just a single press with no tactile feel.
When in the camera app it either does nothing, or is stuck trying to focus repeatedly.
Has the same issue with the glass coming up on the back as well. Definitely feels and sounds as if adhesive it being "pulled apart" per se.
Also, the flaps seem to be a little mis-aligned.
My T-Mobile must have gotten a bad batch...

If you have a misaligned usb flap, will replacing the flap with a spare one fix it or is it an issue with the frame?

First one I got in store, noticed the power and volume up buttons were stuck and wouldn't click, the next one's speakerphone didn't work, now this one's camera button is stuck and doesn't have the two stage shutter and can't take photos in the stock app. I still prefer the phone over any other currently out.
Edit: I got mine through t-mobile.
UPDATE: The camera button has come unstuck and works fine now, though it does get a little stuck still.

Two display/screen issues :
- Screen burn-in all the time : status bar and home button more particularly. I strongly suspect a defective screen : I send my Z3 back to Sony, and they did... a software update ! I'm kind of curious about what they did exactly because my phone was completely updated. Of course, it didn't solve anything...
- Strange parasite lines surrounding text lines. Probably a software issue. I'm waiting Lollipop to see what it gonna do on my phone.

Sent mine in for a screen repair in the USA. Its a d6603 international version that is rooted and an unlocked boot loader stock. They just informed me that they cannot fix due to it not having the correct software and it not being a US phone.

Metal Bezel on Neo possible?

So, today while I was walking home I felt my watch loose in my jacket sleeve, and when I looked, the part of the bezel that holds the watch strap was broken. As I hadn't hit it on anything or put any strain on it, I'm honestly super confused as to how that happened, and I'm very disappointed. I talked to Samsung, and currently their "out of warranty" repair service is not active, and apparently my watch is out of warranty. As I received this as a gift nine months ago, I can't really say where it came from initially so I can't say as to whether it should be in warranty or not. So, I feel like my best bet is to buy parts and fix it myself.
My question them is, if I purchased a metal bezel for a Gear 2, does anyone know if it would fit well on the Neo? I'd rather replace it with metal so this doesn't happen again. I realize the regular Gear 2 has a camera, whereas the Neo just has an IR sensor there, but I feel like I could make it fit. If it can't be done and someone knows that though, I obviously would not like to waste my time and money on it.
If anyone has any insight into this, I'd be very appreciative!

Okay, well shockingly I found a metal frame for really cheap from the next major city over from me so... I guess I'll give it a try. I'll post my results.

So, the new front chassis came in and unfortunately, as feared, the Neo and the regular Gear 2 are not quite as compatible as I thought.
The biggest issue is that the back isn't quite the same shape, which is weird because visually it's near impossible to see a difference, but it's there, and it prevents the back from fully closing. However, I plan to resolve this with a back for the full Gear 2 I ordered for cheap.
The second biggest issue is that the metal is designed to isolate the camera from the motherboard. This means there is a physical metal barrier which gets in the way of the IR LED. On top of this, it appears there are slits molded into the screw-posts for the board to slide into on the Neo, but these are absent from the full Gear 2. I plan to resolve both of these issue, very very carefully, with a dremel. I do not want to compromise the structural integrity of the screw posts.
The last issue I didn't confirm, but appears to exist is that the screen area on the full Gear 2 is slightly taller than on the Neo it seems. I had suspected this actually, and I think that would explain why my screen protectors were slightly too big. I plan to resolve this with a new screen for the full size Gear 2, which was also relatively cheap, but more than I wanted to spend on this project. I feel like you could get away with not doing this if you don't mind a tiny gap. But I want to make sure it's as perfect as it can be.
I'll update again once everything comes in.

Update: You can in fact put a Gear 2 Neo inside of a Gear 2 body, if you are so determined. Things that are different about the two include not just the metal main chassis, but also the back, the screen and the charging cradle. (As well as the main board.) So, if you want to do this, you'll need to get a new back as well, which I got cheap from ebay, and I'd recommend getting a new screen too. Theoretically the Neo one will fit, but there will probably be a noticeable gap. I have a Gear 2 cradle on order, for the time being I'm using the Neo charger, which is slightly wider, and holding it on with a rubber band.
The determination part: The main board will not fit into the metal case without modification to the case. (I wouldn't modify the board.) There's a metal divider to keep the IR LED from interfering with the camera, but since the Neo doesn't have a camera, and has the IR LED centered, this means you can't put the board in. This metal divider needs to be removed. Also, the Neo board goes around the screw posts a little bit in a way that is blocked by the metal. So, the trick is to remove the metal around the screw posts to allow the board to fit without compromising the structural integrity of it and without damaging the screw posts themselves. I did not need to make any slits in the screw posts though as I thought might be necessary. Which is good, because I feel a lot safer without doing that. I accomplished the necessary modifications with a Dremel, various tips, and a lot of care with a stead hand.
The end result looks really nice, and I do not anticipate having the same issue the plastic case had. I'm very satisfied, but it isn't the easiest thing to do. But if you are so determined, yes, it can and has now been done.

A raw quick fix for loose bezels

I've switched between smartwatches over the last 2 years and have had 3 gear s3 watches. The first two of them had pretty solid bezels, nice clicks, no wobbles or noises when tapped, I have just bought a new gear s3 and unfortunately the bezel is what I would call a little loose compared to the first two
I was going to take it back but the bezel is simply a metal bezel that sits on 4 ball bearings and a spring and it just pops off, you can actually replace the whole bezel for about 20 pounds these days
Knowing how the bezel works, reading information about other watches with bezels etc, I decided to try a bit of a hack fix before taking it back or replacing it myself
You might laugh but I looped a bit of dental floss under the bezel two times, you can't see the floss at all, you can get it in there very tight and it won't show at all. What it will do is stop your bezel from being loose, making a tapping noise and tightening up the bezel when you turn it
They use this fix on high end diving watches on some forums I read, it's also worked a treat on my gear s3, if your bezel is loose it's worth a shot
I used thin dental floss, I slid it under the bezel, then pulled it tight and looped it round the bezel, making sure it was pulled tight right into the bezel so it couldn't be seen, I kept testing the bezel to make sure it hadn't got to tight to turn as you can still remove it until you have cut the floss and tucked in the cut end with another piece of floss. Once you have fitted the floss simply cut the end and use another piece of floss to tuck in the loose end.
Mines been good for a couple of weeks but obviously the bezel is used a lot on the gear s3 so how long it lasts is something that I can't guarantee
I know that the quick fix won't be for everyone but if the bezel drives you crazy, you don't want to take the watch apart etc then this could be a handy little solution

Question Loose bezel - normal, or need (another) replacement watch?

So I bought this watch a few weeks ago originally, and when it turned up I noticed the bezel seemed to be loose -
I sent it back to samsung for a replacement, after hearing from a few other owners that their bezels were rock solid, though several people did say they got loose ones too and did their own returns.
Got it replaced, and the new one is -
Basically the same? So... now I'm wondering if this is normal, and some people just don't even see it on theirs, or if I've just been unlucky?
I've had people tell me both sides so no idea who to believe at this point. Figured I'd try here this time instead of reddit!

You could carefully add some teflon tape to dampen it if that is your goal.
That's disconcerting but maybe deliberate. Dirt can get in easier too.

Not sure. It was a thought.
For that kind of money, it should be tight all way around. So I can understand your apprehension.
I'd return it if not satisfied...

If they are like previous Samsung rotating bezels (and I suspect they are), they are designed to snap off. Underneath there are springs, ball bearings, and a gasket ring. Seems every iteration of the watch with a rotating bezel has reports like this - I wonder if it's because a spring is missing, or something like that. Or, it could be perfectly normal. Do you own one? Does yours wobble like mine? If non-wobbly versions definitely exist then I'll just keep replacing until I get a good one!

I do, and while it is difficult to gauge from looking at the video, I can't discern any significant wobble in mine. For example, if I place my thumbs at 3 and 9 o'clock, and try to rock the bezel, it does not move. Feels tight all round - although I will say the action when turning it is a bit 'clunkier' to me than my Gear S3 (which actually does have a bit of play in the bezel).

Sorry for the old thread, but where did you get your replacement bezel from? I only find whole bodies, costing arround 40-50$. My isnt turning that smooth on some "angles". Cleaning didn't help either.
