Pixel thinks that an OTG device is always connected - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

I noticed that my battery life plummeted recently and when I started to dig into the issue, I that my phone was never going to into deep sleep. This is due to a kernel wakelock, "otg_default", which to my knowledge is what happens when the phone thinks that an OTG device is connected. My phone does not recognize any OTG drives now and my battery life is horrible. Does anybody know how to make this wakelock stop? I've tried reboots, cleaning out the port, different cables, different OTG devices, everything. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Slow charging all the time

Recently my phone started to only "slow charge" no matter which method I use.
It charges so slowly when using anything other than my computer that it drains the battery.
I also get the notification "Battery is charging slowly due to low electric current of TA/USB connection."
I've tried multiple cord and wall plug in combos, factory reset, using a different battery, and resetting the battery stats with no solution.
The deck in my car used to recognize it as a mass storage device but now says no device found, it still says it is charging however.
Has anyone else ever encountered this issue?
This issue came out of no where and it is driving me crazy, does anyone have any other steps I can try to solve this?
Any help would be much appreciated!

[Q] Phone not charging, USB burnt

RESOLVED (Kinda)
Hello!
My VZW i535 just started giving me issues. I should preface this by saying that it is rooted and I do have a CM11 nightly flashed (will try to get specific version when I can, which may be awhile). I've had this installed for probably over a month now without problems. I also understand that charging issues are very common but nothing I could find is the same as my issue.
I noticed my phone was overheating (as it has frequently since purchased) with about 30% battery today, so I plugged it in after doing a reboot and all seemed well. About 15 minutes later I hear it beeping, giving the signal the battery is below 15%. It was actually at 5%, and the bottom of the device was extremely hot, as well as the end of the Samsung cable included with it, so I unplugged it and found that the metal part of the cable was mostly black and there was a strong electrical burning smell.
I tried two other USB cables, both in the Samsung AC adapter, and in the USB ports of several devices. With any cable in the adapter, it would say "charging" but would not actually charge, but with the computer USB ports it wouldn't say or do anything at all.
The battery is at 2% now and the device is powered off so that I can quickly do something if need be, but I can't do much. I ordered some replacement batteries with a charger, due for arrival by Friday 1/3, since I assume that the damage to the USB interface is permanent.
Is it likely that this was caused by the software? Or is the charger faulty? Any advice, in general? The warranty has expired, but I do have insurance on it if for some reason it would be better to just get a new device. I can't restore it to stock until I get replacement batteries; is that what you recommend?
Thanks so much!
Sounds like a hardware i ssue. Look inside ur usb port on the device to make sure it did not get burn. Wen ur battery comes in put it on and try to charge it with new cable. If it doesn't charge then it will ur USB port. I know some 4.4 roms give wonky bat stats but it shouldn't burn out ur cable or usb port at least i think it shouldn't. If u believe is a software issues flash a different version of the rom a previous build or a whole different rom. But with 2% battery i don't think u would be able to. Good luck
After playing around with it a bit, the USB interface on my phone definitely appears to have taken damage from the heat. It only charges when powered off, must be completely still, and charges relatively slowly.
What I would recommend for people with a similar problem is to do as I have done and purchase extra batteries with an external battery charger like the set I got for around $17 on Amazon.
My only guess for what caused this is that something faulted in the cable or AC adapter and caused a severe overheat issue. If anyone has anything else to say about that, please let me know so I have a better idea of what happened. I will mark as resolved soon.

Charging issue

I've motorola quench phone, i noticed something weird. on various occasions when I plugin the charger or usb cable connected to computer the phone doesn't pickup the connection. It just doesn't detect the connection. the battery doesn't charge and the charging led doesn't turn on. But when i restart the phone, the phone gets detected or starts charging. I've tried multiple cables and multiple roms (even stock rom). Has any seen this issue with any android phone? Looks like a software issue to me.
Any help is really appreciated.

[Q] Charges slowly/Not detected by Computer

Hi,
I've had the following symptoms:
a) Battery draining abnormally fast (usually lasts < 3-4 hours with no activity).
b) Phone is not detected by computer, computer is not detected by phone. Tried both Mac and PC with multiple USB cables. No media prompt, can't reboot/reflash.
c) Phone no longer displays "Charging via AC" but rather "Charging via USB", even when using multiple different USB chargers that should fast-charge. Qi wireless charging works.
d) Otherwise, phone is working fine.
A few weeks ago, I got a new battery, this solved the issue of the phone turning off or restarts with no explanation, often when about 80% charged. Upon bootup again a few minutes later, battery life is around 20% or less. Phone is not abnormally hot when this happens, so that energy is not being discharged. However, other symptoms above remain.
I assumed it was an issue with the USB port on the phone, since data pins are required for both fast charging and a computer connection.
I tried replacing the USB Flex cable with a new one, but I had the same symptoms after the replacement. I also tried a reset of the device, wiping user data, but the same issues remain.
a) Does this sound like an issue with the main board of the Nexus?
b) Any other troubleshooting steps I can try?
c) I previously unlocked the bootloader. Without a USB data connection, it's impossible to root/flash updates, right?

What are you using to charge? Wall adapter or your PC's USB port?

When I'm not using QI, I usually use a wall adapter.
I've used several different new micro-USB cables, with several different wall adapters that support fast AC charging with Android phones. This worked in the past, but within the past two months, it stopped working properly.
I usually only connect to the PC to load updates manually. I last did so for a Lollipop update a few months ago (5.0.1). Everything is stock, except that the bootloader is unlocked.
I'm specifically using external batteries and chargers that are designed to charge faster. All of them state "USB" instead of "AC" now on the battery settings, and the charging is very slow.
What he said ^^^^
And read posts 1 to 3 carefully in the battery help thread. If you still need help, read post 4 well. ?

Thanks for the reply.
While I did state that the battery is draining quickly, this might be due to apps installed or system configuration, and it isn't my main problem.
My main issue is that the AC charging doesn't work and the phone not being detected by any PC or MAC. This would appear to point to a hardware issue, since I can't even connect to the phone when in the bootloader/recovery. The posts in the battery thread seem to point towards looking at software reasons for battery drain, and not towards causes of slow USB (non AC) charging, and data over USB not working.
Yes, the battery thread usually covers drain issues. But if your phone dies in 4 hours with little use, something is seriously wrong. Could be hardware and all related....Likely is.
If you can't charge with an ac charger and cable, or have your computer recognize it, it's likely a bad port on the phone, or simply the cable. (Yes, I see you covered the cable... But just saying the options)
Your computer doesn't see it at all? It's not in device manager as an unknown device? Or it is?
Still like to see screen shots from gsam about the battery drain. And the stock battery graph.
Hi I have the folowing problem
Whit oem Cable i connect to wall charger it charges whit AC and i connect to external battery and it is charging whit USB. on other phones testet including Nexus 4 is charging whit AC on the external battery both 1A and 2A ports.
What could be her te problem?
Is the carging unit of the phone defectiv?

S6 only charges when phone is off

So a problem reared its ugly head a few days ago...
I tried to connect my phone to my PC to transfer files, but the PC wouldn't detect the phone. It wasn't charging when connected to the computer either. I tried different USB cables and different computers - same problem. If I turn the phone off it suddenly charges, which tells me the USB port on the phone is working. I also tried different chargers too.
My device is rooted, so I thought it may be the ROM I'm running. I wiped the device and flashed another ROM, but still the same problem persists.
It seems like a firmware issue to me as it charges when the phone is switched off. I hardly ever use the USB port on my S6 as I usually charge wireless. I tried cleaning any lint and dust out the port too using compressed air and a toothpick - it didn't help.
Does anyone have any idea what the fault may be?
Are You using USB 3.0 port? Cause I had the same problem. Usb 3.0 never recognised my device. Now after I flashed 6.0.1 the problem is gone.

Tried on USB 3.0, USB 2.0 and a power brick, Mac and PC - all the same result.
Similar Problem
I have similar problem too. My phone is Samsung Galaxy Alpha. Yesterday, I charge my phone using Pineng Powerbank and then i notice that it show the lightning symbol but the battery is not charging but decrease and my phone become too hot. Since I don't bring the charger, I'd try to connect with different USB cable to PC and the problem is still the same. Then I remove the battery for few minute until the phone is cooling down. After switch on the phone again, my phone quickly heating up but the battery is normal. I'd buy new battery for replacement but the problem still occur. My phone also is not charging when in safe mode and only charging when it is turn off. Then I made a factory reset and it's work. Both of my battery is working too. What is actually happening? Does the powerbank is the culprit or virus? Thank you.
