I am getting a new Z5 and I was looking around for a custom rom. I see that the latest somewhat stable rom is 7.1.1 but I also see that there are a lot of people complaining about fingerprint scanner and other stability issues . I want a custom rom that will pretty much unlock drm and all other crap so I can install any unsigned app while also not melting my phone due to instability and heavy ram consumption. Not sure what to chose. Suggestions and feedback much appreciated

I recommend lineage 14.1 sumire . Pretty stable , make sure you back up your drm key first .?

About the fingerprint scanner, you have to install one before the last one to make it works.

Yes, I personally prefer stock with some tweaks, xnext camera, ambient display, Magisk for pass safety net. I really like to take pictures, with stock you keep the drm Keys and can making photos with low light haha.

There are ways to install unsigned apps, you don't really have to change to a custom rom.
If your definition of ''unsigned apps'' is cracked, patched apps, you can always install apk.
And yes, you can root on stock rom (no difference on custom rom).

Ok so then I guess I will stick with stock and will just root . And in terms of stock what version should I stick to ? And yes when I say "unsigned apps" I mean cracked and patched.

Hi,
My brother has some issues with his phone (Moto G 2013, not dual SIM, not 4G) in the last time. The phone is quite unstable, so I recommended him to flash custom recovery, and eventually custom ROM.
The question is which one? This is not ROM vs ROM thread. I do not wont to compare ROMs. Just aks people for they personal experience. If anyone could recommend a stable (his/her personal opinion.) ROM, or comment lolipop, should I got for Kit Kat ROM or Loli (He still hasn't received the OTA update to Lolipop.).
I have tried to research a bit and find out for my self what would be the best option for him, but the task is not so simple, and pretty time consuming. Strange how everything, from rooting to flashing seem so complicated when one looks at the forum, when one actually only has to unlock the bootloader, fastboot flash recovery, and flash the ROM of personal choice (Here I need a bit help : )).
I hope the question is ok, if not... sorry in advance.

What is +gB? All general functionality like camera, sensors, GPS work normal, and stable?
Bit unrelated question about lollipop, is there a way to expand the notification card, like message or Google now card in notification bar? When I try to do that on my phone I only get the part with tiles (configuration shortcuts.)...
Thank you for your answer!

I really didn't expect to find so many xposed modules in so good shape so fast! And you mean they all work, even gravity box!
Regarding stability, I have found many people complain even about official OTA updates. My brother also has serious stability issues with offices stock original, not rooted ROM on his Moto G, so stock doesn't always has to mean stability. People often root and start using custom ROMs because issues with stock.
But that's another story ☺. Thank you very much for your recommendation and very useful input. You have saved me a lot of hours of reading mostly useless stuff. I will definitely make make him flash what you recommended ☺. He was a bit afraid first when he found our he is losing his warranty when he applies for a device number, for unlocking the bootloader, but I remind him that his warranty is anyway not valid any more, and now we are about to proceed with unlocking, flashing TWRP, and this Lolipop ROM you recommended.

hahahaha, I've been flashing Roms and kernels to see which would suit me best, and I found this amazing stock ROM with amazing battery life.
Cheers
If you want half-bleeding edge ROMs than Dirty Unicorns is quite good with a big load a custom tweaks HOWEVER, I found resource management (RAM mostly) on Dirty Unicorns was . . . less than satisfactory and battery life was average-not great. If you want an up-to-date and almost-as-many-tweaks-as-dirty-unicorns then Exodus is the way to go Rock solid, fluid and quite compatible with custom kernels.
Oh, and about kernels. I cannot recommend ZERO Byte kernel enough. Great battery life, even with slight overclock (meaning better performance) and supports underclock (battery save 2 extreme!)
If him want a stock like and rock stable try AOSP+OMS.
Hey everybody!
I found myself with some spare time and would like to flash my D6633 a custom Rom for LB, however there are quite some to choose from.
I am not searching for “the best“, but rather your opinion
What are you using as daily driver and why? What is the most handy feature about the ROM?
Thanks for all suggestions!
I would suggest CyanogenMod since it's been around for a longer time and things always work as they should. I have been using CM12.1 for my Z3 as a daily driver and it's definitely a better experience compared to stock rom.

If i'm going to be honest, Stock will always be the best, Although Android Marshmallow concept was extremely promising when i had it installed, And if i'm honest i really hope Sony keeps that stock look with those small hints of Sony features, that would be my ideal ROM,
Try the Marshmallow Concept, But let me tell you you will always find yourself coming back to Stock Rom.

I'm giving a new Honor 6X to my father in law, and he needs something that's reliable and everything works. He lives several hours away so I won't be there to help him, and he can't tinker with his phone.
Phone is unlocked and rooted, and I installed twrp-3.1.1-0-berlin recovery already. Android version doesn't matter, this just needs to be 100% working and reliable. Even a stock debloated ROM would be fine, but I can't find anything like that and it's a PITA to manually debloat the stock ROM.
What can you suggest please?

U can give Elite ROM 7.2 a try.....but it isn't perfect in terms of magisk, permission manager etc minor bugs- better performance than stock
LOS, AOSP have performance issues imo
I tried almost every ROM and finally settled with stock if u want most stable and everything working accepting poor optimization of RAM and performance of EMUI 5.0
Here's a guide on bloatware safe to remove made by me https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/how-to/guide-list-bloat-software-emui-safe-to-t3700814 - it could sound boring, but manually remove bloats on EMUI is the safe way to achieve a "clean" rom (stable the most, overall) for your father in law, actually. Hope it could be helpful.

Yes, this seems to be the consensus. Can I stay rooted on stock without the bootup nag screen? Or can I remove the bloat without being rooted? I don't think system apps can be removed without root.

i am just curios about what ROM you use and what makes you stick to it and it doesn't matter if stock or not. mention any specific feature that keeps stuck on that ROM.

Well that's obvious. BTW have you tried caf based roms they are much smoother than AOSP
camera and sound, sometimes battery life from stock roms
volume buttons to change music, flashlight and sleep hardware keys shortcuts (but not every rom have the shortcuts I need), speed from custom
I know these threads are frowned upon bc everyone has their own preferences but I'm just curious what roms y'all are running. What is the smoothest ROM right now. I live bring to customize with fonts and colors in the status bar and what not.
I'm on Resurrection but just wanting to change it up. I wish dirty unicorns was on here I used to flash that back in the day and loved it!!!

is it possible to have custom kernels with unrooted device and stock os? also, what custom kernle are you using if it's not a secret?
I've been on Havoc and then Omni Treskmod but both had certain issues (battery life / banking apps / default camera not working etc.) so I'm really thinking of reverting back to stock and unrooting the device. But I also enjoy some of the custom kernel features that are available out there so was wondering if it's possible to get best of both worlds

I dont believe that is possible. I use Elementalx and have no issues like that. Banking app is probably just because of root.

It definitely is because of root but I was unsuccessful in trying to hide root with Magisk... So seems like the only way to go is to revert back to stock without root...

Seems like it. Although, when my banking app had tap to pay built in, I was able to hide root and use it. Now I'm forced to use google pay and I can't get it to work while rooted.

My favorite has always been elementalx. It's great on every device I've had.
What about resurrection vs crdroid? I Ave been reading on both and both seems stable and good.
I've tried multiple custom roms but keeping coming back to stock, every rom seems to have some kind of functionality missing that the stock rom has, it's not worth it to lose base functionality just to have something different looking.

Yes, you can use alot of custom kernels unrooted. I have used Weeb and blu_spark unrooted without any problems and with Safety Net passing. If they are designed to work out of the box without any configuration with root apps and have CTS check bypass (kernel level) it should work without a problem like stock/unrooted, little research might be needed tho. Good luck.

Thanks for your input. I have actually unrooted my device and with a little bit of debloating I am getting the best battery life I have ever had (compared to quite a few custom roms & kernels I have tried out) + I was also able to get GCam with aux lenses, Youtube Vanced and get all the customization I need using Nova Prime Launcher. Really don't see myself coming back to any custom rom, as they tend to have bugs here and there, or have something that simply doesn't work the way it should. Stock everything gives me everything I need from this phone :good:
