all so z5 premium had a so called 4k screen so they all so lie saying the xz premium is the first

According the guys over at GSM Arena, it is a true 2160p display. They checked.

They write at the end of the article this statement:
The full test of the Sony Xperia XZ Premium will be released this Thursday, June 1st
And it is not released yet...
JUST A FAKE TEST
They didn't even count the pixels...

That's the Z5 Premium. Not the XZ Premium.

who cares
Get out your Tom Mix magnifying glass and start counting. All companies lie... is this a revelation?

I'm fine with whatever, I love the phone regardless .

Well I think phone is 4K display. I mean when I watch 4K video on gallery app it shows 3840*2160.
I've taken a screenshot to see the resolution. It wouldn't be 2160p if it's less than that, Am I right?
Then it comes to Youtube app, it clearly states that 2160p available. if it's less than that then why does it offer to view in 2160?
Reliability of your site? If it's not really 4K then gsmarena, PhoneArena and even XperiaBlog would have already picked it up and it would be in news. Z5P has a 4K display and now this has a 4K HDR display.
Do you at least own the device to come to these speculations? I have the device and I can confirm it's a 4K display.

Do they disprove that the display can output 801 ppi when it detects media content? NOPE!
Have they seen less pixels than it should have? NOPE!
Have they proven that it is not a true RGB panel? NOPE!
They just complain about the V arrangement of the pixels and nothing more.
For me it is a true 4K display and end of story!

This has been posted before, always the same source and I've never seen any other site discuss it.
That's not to say it's not true, but if GSMarena had to go to maximum magnification on there microscope to just see them, I think we can be confident they are very small.
IMO, it's not different to Samsung using Pentile instead of RGB. At 4K resolution you are getting way more pixels than your eyes can see without putting it up to your face. the IPS LCD is too slow response for VR anyway.
IMO everytime I see the same article posted people are making a big deal out of nothing.

nomailx said:
Ok, I just read an article saying that the screen of the XZ Premium is not real 4K, and they are cheating on their pixels alignment. And obviously that's why Sony doesn't push VR for the XZ premium. Cause in a VR headset, it will be easy to understand that it's not a real 4K display.
WARNING! This is not a "XZ uses full hd most of the time so it's not real 4k" or "ADB modification doesn't bring real 4K".
This article below explains how !!!!!!!!!!! THE PANEL ITSELF IS NOT 4K !!!!!!!! IT's a 3840 x 1470 Resolution Panel.
Edited: More Info. These French guys at Numeric tested the Display Panel. They find out that the panel is in fact a 3840 x 1470 panel with pixels aligned in a Chevron shape. (V shape). So to fill the empty voids, the panel stretches pixels. It's hard to detect without a VR headset or the proper tools.
Source: (In french)
http://www.lesnumeriques.com/teleph...z-premium-ecran-4k-qui-en-est-pas-n63477.html
What's your take on this?
Edit: Here's an image from that article explaining the "Chevron Alignment" of the Pixels of the XZ Premium Panel:

Here's the 1st of July Full Review link they are talking about on the first link:
http://www.lesnumeriques.com/telephone-portable/xperia-xz-premium-p37953/test.html
Again they come to the same conclusion that the phone has a 3840x1470 Display.

Sorry dude, but in a smartphone world where everyone is payed by Samsung, I really think that this is fake, according to EVERYONE that made a test, this is a serious 4K panel, end of story.

Well, I also find it curious that only this blog makes this claim. And seems fishy since, as you say, gsmarena or xda don't make any similar claim. I Just brought it up since XDA is the only place where you can find users who can tell more about this.

Ever since I saw this thread I have been curious about this claim and have been endlessly scouring the Internet to try to find anyone who has looked at the display under a microscope to verify the pixel count. The link I posted earlier that was referencing the Z5P was the closest I found for a while until I found the same article as it applied to the XZP and they didn't make any claim about pixel count not being true 4K in either article.
I'm hesitant to immediately reject the claim of the article you posted here but I do find it a bit suspicious that no other review site has made any similar claim especially with others who also put the display under a microscope.
All I can say for sure is that 4K content looks magnificent on this display and that it has no issues being displayed either. I'm leaning toward this phone being true 4K until proven otherwise. It would be a pretty large scandal of false advertising if it was proven that this display wasn't true 4K and yet being marketed as such.

Confirmed: iPad 3 has a 2048x1536 Retina Display

This is an ASUS Transformer Prime forum. Please do not post about iPads. We bought TFP's because we (or at least I,) don't care to hear about Apple constantly.
Wow, that is an insane res...
I tend to really Really dislike apple, for a multitude of reasons, but it becomes harder and harder to cling to my ways sometimes...
I mean I totally prefer everything about Android, except the fact that what makes it great is also one of its biggest challenges. Segmentation.
I thought the TFP would be the answer to the Ipad2, and possibly be able to hang with the ipad3 in terms of specs...but we all know how that is going.
Still going strong with android, still hating on apple (and admitting it)....still a closet case for their hardware and build quality.
Competition is a good thing. I posted this for all of those ATP would be owners like myself on their 3+ ATP system in pursuit of a working Prime. Instead of complaining about the ATP and cluttering up the forum, I have posted a viable solution, soon to be announced then released.
There is light at the end of the tunnel.......................trust me

I don't know, its interesting to hear what the competition has to offer, especially when the prime is littered with so many bugs that Asus refuses to fix, but would rather release a "fixed" version as a new model.
Even the fixed model's(TF700t) resolution pales in comparison. Back to the drawing board Asus.

I'm posting an alternative to all the users constantly cluttering up these forums with negative Prime experiences. Most of you guys constantly complain about users with real problems....well here you go. It's not my fault that Apple just did a backflip over Asus.
Until Apple changes iOS.. does it really matter what the resolution is? Ironically, I can say the same about Android.. until we see "apps" to actually take advantage of the display/resolution... WHO CARES??
Oh yea, I guess it does matter to those who like to watch movies....
I dont believe it.......... They gonna run it with a dual core? I dont think so
Remember the iPhone5 with LTE and NFC and all the other BS... Guess what none happened not one thing nada...... Rumor got started from some Wall St butthole right... Gonna drive the price of Apple through the roof and bamm drop like rock and cash in on the poor sucker fanboys

True, but what better place to discuss the direct competition? Asus is coming out with a prime that runs at 1920 by 1200 if I am not mistaken, and Apple is coming out with an iPad that runs at 2043 by 1536.
Also for the previous commentor who mentioned videos, it doesn't matter as nobody would be watching content at that resolution anyways, just because the prime runs at 1920 by 1200 will you be upscaling your video to that resolution? if so thats kind of idiotic
It will definitely glide through 1080p videos though, which is what today's standard is after all.

An A6 is in the works which is believed to be a quad core, why is it impossible for Apple to have a quad core cpu when nVidia has tegra 3? Does nvidia know some magic voodoo the rest of the tech companies are not aware of?
Also I won't lie everybody was fooled by the iPhone 5 rumors, but again that's because they believed Apple would go out of their cycle of new design then S model. With the iPad its completely different, and this is hardware were talking about, a leaked SCREEN, a physical object that is in the hands of Macrumors. So its just as legit as when the iPhone 4 was leaked by Gizmodo. Unless someone out there is making a screen for fun that is running at the rumored res of the iPad 3, I think its fair to say this is legit.

Um, are you sure you have your facts straight? do you even know what 1080p is? 1080p is a resolution that is defined as 1920 by 1080, the prime is running at 1920 by 1200 which is higher than that of 1080p, albeit but not that much. Also 1080p is 16:9 while 1920 b 1200 is 16:10, so expect some pretty black bars like what Apple owners have been seeing.

[Q] bad screen and camera quality

hi guys,
I'm an android no0b ... soon fix that problem though.
anyway here is my situation and question:
Does the phones with the 'Bad Screen Issue' take the same quality pics as the ones with the Good screen
I love to take pics... my old nokia 3.15mb cellphone take great shot, I simply love cellphone that take great pics... but
I might be getting a used a mytouch4g (rooted still on froyo) [decent enough price (well as decent as living in Jamaica goes) ]
and from the first day that I saw the the phone I commented "oh i thought it would be nicer... the screen looks so bland... washed out"
the owner didnt even realize that it look bland, and said that its just looks that way , it doesnt affect the camera/pic quality.
I played around with it for a few minutes... my first experience with an android device... I AM IN LOVE WITH ANDROID NOW. but I still could not get around how bland the screen showed..
he only had it for a week before and didnt have much experience with android either.. he got it from someone b4 ... and all he knew is that its rooted.
I really like this device, and checked around online and was shocked to find out about the 'BAD SCREEN ISSUE' , and first i say some comments where persons said that they first say it after the rooted their device and a some1 even said that the unrooted their phone and the issue went away..
but that to this forum and youtube and realized that is a real hardware issue literally a 'BAD SCREEN' most like TFT vs a SuperLcd issue. ( right ?)
I still purchase it from him, and i said the the price is pretty sweet...
i know only know two person who own the mytouch/glacier and I asked them to send me a sample of pics that they took with their phone... just to compare camera quality. In fat hey did n't even know about the BAD screen issue (fortunately for them their devices are ok) ...
I took some pics with the one that i would be getting and I must say I am disappointed ... the pic when send to my pc looks just as washed out and bland as on the phone screen. i seriously doubted that the screen would affect the camera quality.. i may be wrong though.
I am not considering not to buy it... just because of the bright/washed out screen... but it not likely that i'm getting another decent Android phone for any where near this price again.
So guys I'm asking
.1) Does the phones with the 'Bad Screen Issue' take the same quality pics as the ones with the Good screen
.2) (if the forum allows it) some of your guys with the 'bad screen" phones upload your pics so i and have a better judgement of the camera quality. Prolly the camers secsors are determined by th e screen output (?)
.3) If u think that think that unrooting/rerooting will help the camera issue ( yeah unlikey )
4) If updated the android build / ginger bread or cm7 or so would improve the camera quality.
thanks in advance.

sadly I can not answer that question, as:
1) I did not check (dont know how to as yet), I am assuming that it at its default setting
2) the phone is not currently in my possession ( prolly not for the next two days) .
once again thanks
The menu button (second hard button from the left) will bring up settings. Check Resolution. I've noticed that pictures in lower light aren't too great. Remember though, its a phone with a camera. The camera is, at most, second.

hope fully I can get my hands on it tomorrow...

sad if my old nokia kicks the teeth out a glacier
The LCD panel and the camera picture quality are not related. The good/bad screens basically refer to the two vendors HTC sourced for the MT4G's LCD, with the good one being the Sony S-LCD and the bad one being manufactured by Sharp. The differences between the screens lie in their contrast, color rendering, and off-axis viewing angles. There are some theories that the differences are not actually caused by the screen, but rather by the digitizer, but unless the digitizer was replaced, the screen and digitizer seem to go hand in hand.
The camera on the MT4G simply isn't that good. Unlike the camera for the Amaze, I've never read of an editable image compression setting for the MT4G's camera, so I'm inclined to believe that one doesn't exist.

I had two mytouch.
One good.one bad.
I have to say the cm7 camera from tdj's 12/30/11 cm7 Kang took some great pictures.
I tested every camera option available(alot of basketball/baseball games),and for some reason that Kang was the best as far as cameras.
Should it have been different? I do.t know why! Cant explain it!
Those pictures were crisp and clear.
I sure I posted a pic in that thread to check it for sure.right around new years.
Found the picture.posted it above.
On both phones the camera was super bad.
Thats why thr darkside was the best side.

I was not impressed with the quality of the pictures from the MT4G before it died. The outdoor pictures in daylight still had significant compression artifacts, soft focus, and undersaturation. Not natural saturation. Undersaturation. Blacks weren't black. Indoor pictures with incandescent lighting were just dreadful. Honestly, the picture quality was comparable to my Motorola RAZR2 V9x with an extra three megapixels.
Lol.haha.its a phone.its a 5mp camera.

Washed out viewing angle

Can all of you people with "perfect" displays and viewing angles post picture of your device at an angle if you were look at it from a table and other angles.
I DON'T CARE IF YOU LOOK AT IT FROM THE FRONT and say "oh well I look it from the front all the time." I view my device on the table 1/4 time. So this is an issue. Don't get me wrong I love this device.
MINE IS BAD. I know there are threads similar like this but you people NEVER back up your claim of it being perfect and saying "I don't have that issue."

WELL PLEASE POST PICTURES OF A LOT OF ANGLES! PLEASE AS PROOF!
I'm trying to investigate this issue because I'm reading the display on this device is the BEST DISPLAY EVER. I don't believe this is true at all. MKBHD has this issue too. I add this device for a week and I know I have only 15 days before it's too late to get a new one and not a "refurbished" one.

If you perceive it as an issue you might want to go with the next badass $350 off contract device available... This is something that is mentioned in almost EVERY review video I've seen, but I don't read my screen from an angle and don't see it as an "issue".
good day.

I've only seen two videos point this out and I hoped it would be a defect. All the others out said this display is "perfect" and so on etc.
I want to see the pictures from the people who claim the "perfect" display and says "I dont have that when I look at mine from an angle."
Cuz I've seen plenty who claims that in just one thread involving this issue. Yeah it's a low priced device, but we all know Google doesn't really make money off this device at all, it's the services your using and the ads you see when your using it that pays them back.
I just want to see the pictures of those who claims their device is perfect.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Reviewers may test extreme viewing angles for comparison but generally evaluate the quality when viewing the display head-on in the manner most people view the device while it's held in normal use. Mind's perfect, but I could not very well use it if held at a 90° angle.
My viewing angles are nothing like that. I have no trouble seeing my screen from those angles.I know you are looking for pictures but unfortunately m n5 is my only camera right now. If i can get some pics I'll post them.
Mine ain't perfect but they seem much better than yours. At least with my eyes, maybe your camera make the things worst ?
I don't have any camera either, but seriously I can see the tiles much better than you, even with extreme angles.

Heh, I wanna say galaxy nexus. Which I also came from as well. Galaxy nexus amoled panel blows chunks next to the n5.
On topic: Since you forced me to sorta care, I got to lookin at the angles. When I got directly up/down/left/right it performs as well as an ips display should with solid color at extreme angles. But on the diagonals of the extremes i.e. (Right/down) I noticed that's when the back light washout would be visible. I suspect it has something to do with any type of polarization that has been applied to the glass.
good day.

agreed.
Have you ever noticed how every review tests viewing angles from a straight angle? That's the standard and probably for good reason.

Mine wishes out when I look at it diagonally and off-axis. There's only minimal washing out from the top, bottom, and sides, unlike what you're seeing. I'll try to track down a another camera and take a couple photos to show you.
EDIT: Here you go. As you can see, there's some washing out at extreme angles (mostly from the diagonal), but it's nowhere near as bad as you're experiencing.

I suspect it has something to do with any type of polarization that has been applied to the glass.
good day.

Which is why it's bad for viewing on tables like I said. Because your viewing it from diagonal perspective a bit. Left and right and up and down are Barrable. It's not TOOO bad. Of the diagonals were the same I'd be OK with this.
I wanna know if this is a Screen lottery (every device has this but some worst then others), which is why I requested pictures from the "perfect" people. If I see that they are having even a significantly better display compared to mine(I know IPS displays get washed out at angles but mine is HORRIBLE), then I wanna call Google and get a new one and compare those too.
I've yet to be able to compare my Nexus 5 to another. Probably tomorrow I'll go into a T-Mobile or Sprint retailer and compare (hopefully it isn't bright in the room because it's harder to tell the difference).

Maxpower7 thanks! I appreciate those pictures. Is that maxed out brightness on a stock kernel with stock colors? That's what I'm using ATM(For personal reasons hopefully I can announce it when it's done.)

Stock kernel, no color adjustments. I've never used max brightness on any device. I'm at roughly 1/3 brightness and it's still plenty bright for me. I can try another one at max brightness if you want, but I don't keep it that high personally because it's too bright for my eyes and it also kills the battery.
EDIT: here's max brightness.
No Maxy it's fine thanks. I just wanted to know for sure.

Yeah they're bad. So was the nexus 4 and g2. It's the type of polarizer that LG uses.

Someone at LG needs to be FIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDA.
Can this "issue" be fixed? Can the angles be improved? I remember reading the Nexus⁴ got some AOSPA Love and it got "fixed" not sure if it was color wise or angle wise or both since I don't own one.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Mine gets quite washed out an angle, but I can still read everything on the screen just fine so it really doesn't bother me. It's a little annoying and unfortunate just to know it's like this (especially since my N7 2013's IPS screen is absolutely perfect even at the most extreme angles), but it really has no effect on my usage of the device.
Seems extreme to wish for someone to lose their job over this. If this is affecting you enough to feel that strongly about it, perhaps a different device would serve you better.

My point in posting those photos was to show that it's really not that bad at all, and it actually looks worse in the photos that it does in person. To suggest that someone should lose their livelihood over this non-issue is utterly ridiculous because this screen on this phone is pretty awesome. And I'm picky about displays.

Mi4c display has extreme blur and ghosting or just mine?

hello together,
i receveid my mi4c yesterday and noticed that the display has the above said issues, i think most of you should know what i mean, i come from a moto G (2015) and never had these problems on it...
both are IPS LCD, scrolling text is horrible on the xioami.. looks like the display has very high reaction and transition times...
so do i have a faulty unit or is this standard on this phone?
EDIT:
i made the perfect test : www.testufo.com/#test=chase&background=404040&leading=FFFFFF&trail ing=00FFFF&distance=38&pps=600&height=180
i adjusted it so the trail of the white box touches the blue box wich is 38 distance in my case (moto g has 25)
if you have the same result on your phone than i know my phone is not faulty
i think it should be moved in q/a. you have a faulty unit, contact your seller as soon as possible !

Doesn't seem to be blurred in any way... Of course I am using it with TS 12.1 PAC rom, not the def miui that had it in the 1st place.

Mind creating some videos? I believe most of us here don't have such a problem, it's very likely you have a faulty unit.

Did you do it at full brightness?
My white box hits the blue box at about 38 also, running CM12.1 and using chrome. I've never noticed this before and don't really see it when scrolling text.
Not ruling out faulty units but everyone is going to say theirs is different because everyone's eyes are different. Similar argument on computer monitors with TN/IPS and refresh rates etc some people cant stand the ghosting and others say they cannot see it.
EDIT*
just thought I'd add I have run the authenticator app when I was on miui and all came back ok.
Weird how there seem to be different results.. Am I mistaken or did I read that different models might have different LCD panels? Like one was Sharp.. Would there be any way to find this out?
38 here too.
Good job tho. You should post this test to the MIUI Forum. Probably in the mi4c section.

i highly doubt your result to be honest.. since 2 people already had around 38 also
The refresh rate of the screen is 60Hz (although sometimes it scales dynamically in order to save power) so it can display 60 frames per second with vsync which are a lot for a human eye to process without blurring. So I think that the blurring happens because of our eyes not the screen, therefore this test is not valid.
Doesn't touch even at 20:

A screenshot won't show it, when it's running you are looking for the faint white ghosting behind the white box to touch the blue box.

Dude a digital camera cant capture the difference, only a old analog one can do it
You can test, but its confirmed...the display is crap in terms of motion clarity most 100$ phones beat it...

Did you see the pictures i took in my posts?
Who do you think you are calling me stupid???
Do so even have the slightest idea how displays work? Do you know that OLED and CRT have no blur at all? Do you know that CSMOS camera Sensors work different than old analog ones?
You ran both phones side by side, wich one was better? The moto g right?
Edit: what i mean is an analog camera would take the picture like you see it with your eyes, you would See 1 square with a trail, not 3-4 shifted squares

Poll: Do you see distortion issue with your Xperia XZ Premium?

I've seen a few threads discussing this issue and even xperiablog picked it up today.
But in the end, I think what's most important is how general users see and feel about it.
So I'd like to hear your voice.
Note: No need to prove anything. You can be completely subjective
Added: XZs has the same camera and the same issue, so XZs users are also welcome to participate. as well!

I personally haven't noticed it in any of the pictures I've taken so far, but I don't take a ton of pictures either. I have noticed that if you don't give it ample time to focus the pictures turn out terrible. The focus isn't as fast as advertised in my experience.

I call this one a scene from Inception
The middle building is falling same with those on the left

There are some interesting explainations about this.
Haven't seen any distortion whatsoever. I tried taking shots of grids to reproduce. Do you have to be a certain distance? I'm very happy with the camera so far.
Does anyone know a way to minimize distortion?
Quote from XperiaBlog comment:
I recently became the proud owner of an Xperia XZ Premium. I spent this morning trying to fix distorted images of a lighthouse with what should have been a straight horizon. Then I read this article.
I contacted Sony and told them about the problem, and they gave me a fix. I've been told in the settings, under Superior auto, scroll down to the More options. On Auto-capturing select Smile Shutter. (Actually, they asked me to reduce the resolution to 17Mp 16:9 before setting to Smile Shutter - then I could change back to 19Mp 4:3 - not sure this is necessary.)
I'm very sceptical, but over the next couple of days I shall try and get back to the coast for a decent horizon with which to test it.

hardware issue for sure ,sony should at least fix as much as possible like Samsung
Forwarding:
samsung start selling their S7&S7e model in March last year, some users feedback camera with distortion issue to the samsung official forum, which is the pincushion distortion just like XZP ,but not bad as XZP level. And samsung developer wrote quick reply which said they will study to fix the problem ,After three weeks the S7&S7E received a new FW upgrade which come with a new camera options SHAPE CORRECTION. Yes,when you focusing still can see the distortion on screen, but saved photo has been corrected close to perfect.

I swear I tried various angles, the best effect I can get.Actualy the middle ladies and holding kid has lengthened head too.You will not feel easily because you are not familiar with.Try shoot a picture similar this one and move head up a little bit,OMG!!!
I got confus, someone said sony looking into it and fix it ,some one said sony will not, which one is it?
If it is not I will get refund, go for a S8 ,I tried it really great quality without distortion.

Omg, this is far beyond acceptable level of distortion....
Very unacceptable
They definitely CAN fix this with software and hopefully they will, although I wouldn't get my hopes up as the XZs has the same problem and it still isn't fixed.
phoneArena picked up the issue as well.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/User...emium-camera-distortion-Sony-responds_id95285
Hope other sites follow so that SONY reconsider their response.
I have taken lots of photos, I can reproduce it when trying, like taking a close up photo of my black framed posters, they look bent. But normal everyday photos I was taking look great to me, one I took I thought would be a good example, the flags are pretty straight as they were in real life (they are in the ground at a sort of "U" not lined up straight in real life also as seen in the photo), while other people photos they would of been tilted. Another phtos shows the trees and stuff in the background look as they were in real life also, everything seems normal. I know It is unacceptable from what others are experiencing and I'm pretty sure Sony will get some sort of fix out for people, but it seems others are more affected than other people. I really cant complain about the photos I got out of it so far.

see this you will know
see this sony official dancing woman's photos (above photo)from XZP you can find in your phone,The distortion has been already there very serious, just that wall have bad workmanship make you think it is.Do a anti color you will see the serious distortion just absolutely same as XZP distortion map below .( borrowed from other user analysi post)
look at the merger photo here you will see the coincide curve line. You know what is the most coincidence part that this little woman's head and body just inside the blue box area where have less distortion.XZP review online they all took photo from long distant landscape,no close-range or people so we can see the issue very coincidental .S PHONE and IPHONE review usually have close range shoot and close portrait.
See this official photos.Whether use any angle to shoot these light bulbs should be regular spherical, rgiht ?! But the one closest to the yellow safe area has been distort absolutely serious already.I'm not saying that wide angle don't have distortion, But this level ..........!This is definitely not a photographer and perspective problem. Also the "curve line" certainly affected distortion.
Now the light bulb photo and map explained why my photo will be seriously deformed ,and also explained that no matter what angle and composition I try I can't get one normal photo .Explained that why I use a 4:3 scale will have even more elongate head, also more and more in single person photo like below. (borrow from other user) Exactly same issue like my traveler's photos, which they Complained about.
This is not an ordinary perspective and wide-angle problem or what ever industry standards is.More like a failed lens design ,what is the point to use the lens like that ? Mobile phone camera should be to allow users to take pictures more easily than professional camera. Most users will not use the phone to shoot master style landscape photos. Most of them are normal shooting for ordinary live photo. If this phone designed for some landscape and flowers which are random shape please put it in the ad and packaging. Also even the landscape you can see the distortion easily than other phone.
My old note5 and the new S8 I tried ,Safe area it is roughly in green box see above photo.
I see the user here said that if cut some pixels may be able to get less distortion. If so, I would agree and accept too.And also like Samsung make a late correct option on software would be grateful.
