Dear all,
My HTC U11 can connect to my Laptop running Windows 10 to have some ADB commands to run, for example backup or restore ...
But my laptop can not read internal storage so I can not copy anything to my HTC U11.
Also, HTC Sync Manager can not recognize my HTC U11.
Any suggestion?
Note: check driver installed properly, but I don't know what is the issue here ...
PS:
Follow all steps below:
http://www.htc.com/sea/support/htc-...et-htc-sync-manager-to-recognize-my-phon.html
but nothing happen.
First off delete HTC sync manager unless you really need it (it's bloatware). Then google 'minimal ADB and fastboot' and use that.

once Win10 sees your phone, it will show up in Windows Explorer
after that, you just need to copy and waste as you would normally do
no need for those bloatware software.

Don't show in windows explorer mate, so can not do anything...
What usb cable are you using ? I had the same issue with a third party cable that worked with my meizu pro 5 and my xiaomi mi4c but not the htc u11.
When i used the htc u11 cable everything worked.

Also if you have both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports in your computer
the Windows OS can become dumb sometimes.
example, on my Galaxy Note 3, if I plugged the USB 3.0 cable to the USB 3.0 on the computer it would work fine.
but if I plugged the Note 3 using the same USB 3.0 cable on a USB 2.0 port, it will not recognize it.
However if Plug the same Note 3 and the same USB 3.0 cable on a regular PC that only has USB 2.0 then everything will work fine.
So, the problem is somewhere between the annoying Win10 and the drivers.
once you get them working properly, everything should show up in Windows Explorer as it's supposed to do.
oh, I also mentioned this on another thread, sometimes Windows OS is just downright stupid, and you need to delete the old USB references from the registry.
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
be careful and backup your registry before making changes.

Unfortunately that my laptop have only one 3.0 usb port
Try as you proposed but nothing happen ...
Have same problem with Intel USB on latest Windows 10. With Asmedia USB its working.
how strange, i plugged in and no issues whatsoever
Only one way is copy files to USB then use OTG
oh my god, this issue happen with USB 3.0 port, connect to 2.0 and working well (
I have the same problem with my HTC U play
With one PC it is working properly and with another PC it doesn't work, both PCs have the same operating system!
It's the usb they say so why cant HTC transfer files via a 3.1 USB? It hangs then gives a desktop refresh when I close the explorer window. if I wait 3-5 minutes I might receive an error message and stop. But it sees the files very clearly. I can see all the contents but it doesn't copy them. Sometimes it will copy the files and they will be screwy. Like jpg files of 1.56GB for my 3 minutes of waiting.
This is a pretty common problem on the internet.

I am wondering whether or not the Raphael has USB Host functionality? I read this on some internet sites, but searching the Wiki and other avaliable informative websites couldn't bring light to this issue. I know that HTCs ExtUSB only is a proprietary connector, enhancing the USB Port with audio and video functionality. This is not what I'm talking about!
Host USB allows devices to act as an USB host (like a computer) and as such access USB-Devices like harddrives or USB sticks, which is more than convinient. As some other Pocket PC have it, I'm hoping deeply my future playmate has it also.
Maybe some of the lucky users could verify?
Thanks!
Doesn't look like it'll have any host facility no. The only HTC device ive seen with host are the bigger HTC Advantage's which have a normal USB port. I dont think the Qualcomm chipset offers USB host either.
This would be a nice thing to have...
I am still owner of a PocketLoox 720 which is capable of accessing USB sticks and USB HD.
It'd be nice. But I guess it would eat the battery.
I think I saw somewhere a USB bluetooth thingy that enables you to read USB sticks via Bluetooth.
well to be precise both the diamond and raphael have some interesting host ability - in SPL you can set usb host to read NBH file off usb. however you need the right adapter cable, so I haven't tried that yet on the diamond (and no raphael yet).

mm, thought it plugged in the other port on the athena...because it also handles vga out (the 4 in 1 cable). and this other port (beside the miniusb sync port) has the icons vga out and usb host.
that is clearly not the same socket as the miniusb (i.e. the sync port).
the diamond & raphael unfortunately only have this miniusb (which is for the sync on athena).
You're right - It's been so long since I used the USB host on the Athena I'd forgotten which port it uses.
Back to the drawing board on that one I guess.

I read in the Diamond service manual (foeund somewhere on the forum here) about using an USB SD-card reader on the sync port on the Diamond. It is used when servicing the phone to upload firmware and test software to the internal storage.
On the picture it looks just like a normal sd card reader that is plugged into a standard USB port on one of the ends on the cable. it is a Y cable where one end is power, one USB and one mini usb to plug in the phone.
I am just doing some tests on this now. I made a usb cable with mini usb in one end and normal usb in the other end. On the on ememstick I have here in the office nothing happens.I will continue to look into this matter.
holy moses. I got something working here!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had to rebuild my cable a little bit here to get this working.
The new external USB port is now powered from a 5Volts source. I have cut the 5 volts connection between my Diamond and my USB memory.
I am using a standard USB flash memory which i got at some commercial stuff long time ago.
I formatted the USB stick to FAT32 on my computer first.
The thing I tried was:
downloade a custom firmware.
copied the xxx.nbh file to the flash
renamed it to "DIAMIMG.NBH" Capital letters!!
Started up the phone holding VOLUME DOWN and RIGHT button down while giving the power button a short push.
It fired up the Olimex boot scene and asked me to push power button to confirm flashing.
After that it flashed my phone for about 10 minutes (from the USB flash memory)
So there is NO DOUBT, the Diamond has USB master capabilities!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I am in file explorer I still can't get in contact with the memory.
Anyone that has the USB drivers from som larger HTC device????
Can anyone try to flash a phone with an un signed firmware or a firmware from wrong region on a phone that has the original bootloader using this method?
Does anyone know how to use external memory by usb hosting

heh, you were faster at building the cable congrats.
btw, what special modifications did you need to make? just the 5V source?
anyway, this just confirms what i found in bootloader disassembly then.
not sure on the availability of usb host drivers. maybe we will need to implement it ourselves
and sorry, but i do not understand the question about flashing unsigned stuff. the stock bootloader will not accept unsigned NBH, no matter where it comes from, sorry to disappoint you.
EDIT: I downloaded the service manual now, thanks. wasn't aware this was out in the open
anyway, the text mentions you must plug in AC power for the USB host. what a shame.

Just an idea, have you tried to start WM5torage on Diamond ?
It lists the MovieNAND and the system partition. OK, you can't take access to it, but maybe WM5torage recognizes the USB stick from OS.
If it does, maybe a modified version of WM5torage can do these job ?
For short test download here:
WM5torage
Ok, WM5torage isn't the right way to test the access from OS, because it needs at last a running driver.
Qualcomm was running Oxford Semiconductor solutions, maybe the integrated USB OTG is a license from this company ?
@cmonex:
Is it possible to adapt the integrated bootloader driver to WM ?
USB drive is HTC supported
I just read through the US user manual and Section 1.13 Using you Device as a USB Drive. http://member.america.htc.com/downl...al/HTC_Touch_Pro/HTC_Touch_Pro_English_UM.pdf

1. Problem
In short, I plugged in my Nexus 5 to my laptop in MTP mode, it does not show up in "My Computer".
I just wanted to transfer files to my phone via USB, not even using ADB yet.
I have yet to solve the problem after googling around for a bit.
Relevant XDA threads that I remember reading are this, this, this, this and this.
I have tried numerous combinations of (un)plugging my phone / (un)installing drivers / rebooting my laptop and phone / switching usb ports / turning USB debugging on and off / connect in PTP mode / ...
As a workaround, I am now transferring files using the AirDroid app, which is really convenient with acceptable speed.
Still, it would be nice to know why the problem occurred and see if others have similar problem.
Below I will describe the devices I have on hand and more details on the failures I have encountered will follow.
2. My Devices
A. an old Galaxy Note
B. the new Nexus 5 with the stock micro USB cord
C. new laptop
- 64-bit Windows 8 Pro (not upgraded to 8.1 yet)
- only USB 3.0 ports
D. old laptop
- 32-bit Windows XP Home
- only USB 2.0 ports
3. Details
Scenario A. Nexus 5 not showing up in "My Computer"
Naturally, the first thing I tried is to simply plug my Nexus 5 in to my new laptop. I was used to Android devices working just like that!
However, my Nexus 5 does not show up in "My Computer" after a loooong wait.
On a closer look, my Nexus 5 (only) appears in the "Device Manager" under "Portable Devices" as "MTP USB Device".
It shows my device to be "working properly". However, I cannot uninstall/disable it when my phone is plugged in (normal?)
Frustrated, I decided to unplug my phone. I have the option to "Unplug Nexus 5" under "Safely Remove Hardware", but the operation always times out, so I simply unplugged it.
Then I tried with my Note using the same cable. It works flawlessly either in MTP mode or Mass Storage mode.
Scenario B. Nexus 5 shows up, but is really sloooooooooooooow
At some point, I turned on USB debugging.
With USB debugging on, my phone appears under "Portable Devices" as "Nexus 5" (and in some other places according to what drivers I have installed).
I was quite pleased for a few seconds as my Nexus 5 now shows up in "My Computer"!
However, it took a few minutes to list the folders I have under my phone's internal storage.
Attempting to copy a 12MB file to it gives an estimated time of over 2 hours.
Scenario C. Success?
After tinkering with it for some time to no avail, I was beginning to worry if I have gotten a defective hardware.
Then I remembered I had an old laptop stashed somewhere, so I tried connecting my Nexus 5 to that.
And... voila! It works without a hitch (MTP mode, USB debugging off).
A maybe useful note is that I have used both the old and new laptops to transfer files to my Note before.
4. Possible causes
While many seems to have solved the issue by simply unplugging and letting Windows reinstall the drivers, I have no such luck.
I sincerely hope that it is not due to any hardware defects since
a) my Note can talk to my new laptop through the same micro USB with no problems, and
b) my Nexus 5 can talk to my old laptop.
I feel that this is a driver-related issue but I am not sure.
Is it possible that there are compatibility issues with using USB 3.0 port (which should be backward compatible...) or a 64-bit Win 8 Pro?
Any help is appreciated!
It is so strange..
I just bought a USB 2.0 hub and connected my phone to my new laptop through it.
Guess what... it works perfectly!
Apparently my problem was that my new laptop only had USB 3.0 ports for me to test on?
Doesn't make sense... thought 3.0 is backward compatible and my old Note works on it!
Maybe I'm missing something but I'm happy it is solved for me now
This solution worked for me. Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512549 and see post #5. Be sure to thank n7of9 for the link and WugFresh for his toolkit solution. Enjoy.
Hey,
I basically seem to have the same problem as you do.
My laptop also only has USB 3.0 ports and Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit installed.
The Nexus 5 doesn't get installed, in MTP mode it is just shown with the yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager. Downloading different USB drivers including Google's and trying to manually install it doesn't work at all. I specifically checked that all older similar drivers are gone, so I doubt that older Android devices could be interfering.
On the other hand, as you noted, using an older computer with USB 2.0 works perfectly, I had the same result.
To be honest, I'm not much of a developer or Android tinkerer, so I'm not really making any progreess... In the end, I think I will follow your example and test it with a USB 2.0 adapter.
Did you manage to get it to work without this workaround?
Kind regards! :fingers-crossed:
I'm using Linux Mint. Just plug the Nexus in. It shows up as a folder. No hassle

I had a lot of issues with my S3 and my work computer (windows XP SP3) and it was because I had half installed some USB driver that windows tried installing.
I fixed the problem in device manager by manually uninstalling EVERY SINGLE USB DEVICE attached to the computer while I had my phone plugged in.
Word of caution: You'll probably uninstall your mouse/keyboard doing this.
Once everything was uninstalled I reinstalled the Samsung drivers and it worked fine.
The same computer only required me to install the Google drivers for my N5. If I enable USB debugging, I all of a sudden can't install MTP drivers, but USB debugging disabled works fine.
USB & MTP mode
I have the same problem with my Nexus 5. The only workaround to transfer files to my phone from a computer via USB cable is to enable USB debuging, set the phone to PTP mode instead of MTP and then it shows in My Computer as a camera. I can only access the DCIM and Pictures folders but for now I have to settle for this...I copy all the files I need to let's say Pictures and then using a file explorer (on the phone) I cut and paste them to the folders I wish...e.g. movies to Movies, music to Music and so on...
I had same problem. Developer Mode...USB Debugging ON worked.
I have this problem too, but I got it to work using a galaxy s3 cable. for some reasons the cable that came with N5 did not work.
Its usually just missing drivers.. You can get them straight from Google or a toolkit as mentioned! (P.s you need to download a little applet like thing from Google if you want to hook up your Mac to your n5)
See andoid.com/filetransfer for the drivers.
This worked for me when all else failed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35854664&postcount=7
Hope that helps!
The problem I am having now connecting is that my phone got wet recently. I dried it immediately and used dessicant to withrow the water and now it works (sort of). Now when I plug my phone into my pc, the usb debugging icon doesn't even show up.
I tried connecting to both my work pc and home laptop and they both say the same thing, that the usb device has malfunstioned and that windows doesn't recognize it.
Is it time for a new phone?

Yeah maybe thats what happened. It's been drying now for about a week. The screen was the major problem at first but has since dried there mostly.
Hopefully it will come back. Would suck to have to buy a new phone because of that.

MTP connecting problem solved
Going back to the subject of the thread: I am pretty sure that ADB drivers and SDK (I am confident that a lot of nexus users have their devices rooted and that means they must have the above installed) is what is causing some sort of conflict when trying to connect the Nexus 5 as MTP. The simplest and shortest way to connect google nexus5 with PC as MTP(Media device)
When I plugged it, there wasn't any yellow exclamation mark within Device Manager. So for me, the drivers were OK. But the device was not listed within my Eclipse DDMS. After a little bit of searching, it was just an option to change in the device settings. By default, the Nexus 5 USB computer connection is in MTP mode (Media Device).
What you have to do is:
Unplug the device from the computer
Go to Settings -> Storage.
In the ActionBar, click the option menu and choose "USB computer connection".
Then select Media device(MTP) or Camera(PTP) based on your requirement...
Plug the device and you should have a popup on the device allowing you to accept the computer's incoming connection..
I hope this will help!

I have no more issues what-so-ever after I unninstalled ADB & SKD drivers...Windows(8) installed my phone by itself after a restart and it works as it should in MTP mode and PTP mode.
Im running windows 8.1 and my usb 3.0 port wont recognize it. When connected to my 2.0 port it works fine. What can it be? My htc 10 connects just fine through my usb 3.0 port so can it be something wrong with the phone itself?

Have you installed and updated htcsync so your HTC drivers are up to date?

you will need to manually install them in device manager...

how do i install?
sometimes it's just windows being stupid.
by that I mean it no longer recognizes your device because it was already registered as an USB 2.0 device and viceversa.
I had that happened to me the Opposite way, with a Samsung phone, it got first plugged into a USB 3.0 port, and then it will no longer recognize the phone when I plug it into a USB 2.0 port.
If I deleted it from the USB list of devices, then it can register again and use USB port 2.0
so it's part driver's fault, but mostly windows fault.
There is an App to delete bad Windows USB registries, it's not a safe App for the novice, as it can cause serious inconvenience by losing 100% to USB devices, in case you don't have a PS/2 keyboard / mouse to control the PC after you accidentally delete all USB devices.
if you are still interesting find the App USBOblivion there are other similar alternatives, but forgot the name, trying to find more.
Found it! this is the one I use http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
Ive installed htc sync manager and have unistalled the driver that shows up when it is plugged in. When i plug it back in it still shows a notification that says "usb device not recognized: the last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it". In device manager it shows up under portable devices: MTP USB device and has a driver date of 6/21/2006 version 6.3.9600.16384 so im sure thats not the driver that im supposed to have for the device. Any ideas?
I just upgraded the driver to htc version 1.0.0.23 dated 7/30/2015 and it still does not work
Problem solved : i had a defective device. I returned that one and got the solar red and it connected right away without any issue.
I got my U11 now return from Repair but its only installed the Software new. HTC say USB working normal but on my PC its not working with Intel USB.

How can I un-registered with USB2.0 and register with USB 3.0? Thanks.
I've contacted Support from Essential but with no luck.
My problem is when I connect the Essential to the PC it automatically opens up
Windows Explorer and show NO FILES in FOLDER.
Any help would be most appreciated. I would love to transfer some pictures and music
from my PC.
Thanks
You are pulling down the notification bar and changing the connection from charging to transfer files, correct?

Had same issue, Windows 10 x64. Windows Explorer would take forever to load the folders, then when they finally did, there were random blank folder icons and just a whole lot of weird going on... Yes, USB Transfer was selected from pull-down. Reboot of phone made no difference. Factory Reset, no change.
In the end, it started working normally after switching USB cables (Anker). I don't have USB-C port on my laptop, and was using another type of USB-A to C cable at the time, so I'm wondering if that was my issue. The Anker USB-A to C cable worked just fine, and haven't had the issue since.

Windows is notorious for phone connectivity not working if the USB drivers aren't correct or you have a bad cable.
I'll order Anker cables today...Thanks
I'll try anything. I just ordered the braided cables from Amazon and they show the phone is connected and charging but no files or folders.
I will order them today. I really appreciated your responses.
By the way, I just received the 360 Camera this morning.

Anker makes quality cables. I use them on my devices. That very well could have been the issue.

I didn't know I had to go to notifications in order to see the files and folders
in Windows Explorer. Evidently, either does the Zendesk Support they are using.
Thank You!

Always start with the easy stuff.
Just received my device yesterday. Attempted to connect my device to my Windows 10 PC directly to my USB-C 3.1 port and it read the phone fine. I got the same issue as the earlier post, the phone shows PH-1 in Windows explorer. When I click on the phone to view the files it acts like it is loading the info, shows weird random folders, locks up then disconnects from showing up on the PC. I also attempted to use a USB-C to A plugging into one of my USB 3.0 ports and still the same thing. Has anyone gotten this to work yet? I am on Windows Creator Update. Thanks.

Yep, got my Essential Phone a couple days ago. They're shipping these with just a Type-C USB cable. While I appreciate them future proofing things and all, my computer doesn't have a type C port. I ordered a Type-C to USB 3.1 adapter and also ordered a USB 3.1 to Type-C cable (cuz who doesn't need a spare cable, right?) Sooo .... I got both cable and adapter today. Same problem as described above. It detects the phone just fine, but all you get is "No Files" or "This Folder is Empty." Just "punting" and trying to copy to that big blank nothing errors out.
Yes, going to "Notifications," finding the connection and changing it from charging to file transfer works ... kind of. You can copy files in, but you can't do jack squat with them once they're there. And Essential Phone ships without any File Management app installed. (Or maybe they hid it far too well for me to find it??) And frequently, I'll get halfway done copying crap and then it craps out and stops copying half way through.
Essential is in serious danger of becoming a pure android enthusiast niche phone only. I don't think Andy Rubin wants to limit his phone's appeal like that. Clearly copying and managing files between the phone and PC and file management on the phone itself should be pretty basic stuff. For pretty much every other phone in existence, you plug into the computer and you are at least prompted on your phone whether you want to give your PC permission to access files on your phone. I've never seen another phone where you couldn't move/delete/copy/manage files already on the phone from your PC. Simply put, it shouldn't be this complicated and it should just work.

my problem is that the computer does not detect the phone
My s22 ultra suddenly does not work on dex. Theres no way to access the sd via a pc either.
I was using this exact setup and it worked fabulously.
As far as i know i went to bed one night and it didnt work the next time i went to use dex.
Reboot phone and pc? Is the phone recognised when connected? Try another cable, does it work on a different pc. Do other USB devices connect ok etc etc
i have rebooted both phone and pc. Same cable as when it did work infact the samsung original that came with the s22. My s9+ does not connect. Both phones DO charge via usb c.
I have infact reinstalled my pc and resest my phone to factory trying to fix this.
Still to no avail.
Does it connect to another pc? Usb pc hub might have failed
its a brand new laptop and it does power the phones. and it all did work fine. i can even power my usb c vape through the same port
there is not an alternative machine to test on
actually i just thaught of this, the last night i was using it i had the standard popup on my phone asking to allow dex to run. An ok responce and cancel or not now responce, i dont remember exactly.
Could this have done something if i hit cancel
also could there be something in the pc bios i may have not realized could effect this. Since i was on the same night trying to boot to a usb linux pendrive
When you connect your phone can you access its files on your pc? Is it recognised as drive
Ok so ive even reset the bios to system defaults and tried a regular usb to usb-c and still nothing

could it have anything to do with the phone usb connection settings. When you plug in a usb otg it normally would give an option for transfer or charge etc on the phones pull down menu and all its doing is saying fast charging
Try phone on another pc
Absolutely everything else works through usb mate.
What else can you access via USB. Drives, devices?
well i can access the standard usb port with an sd card reader. read write and even installed windows off it. So this usb to usb c should work fine.
If it were just the usb c hub blown this would not be the case.

im currently trying to see if i can run a lubuntu through usb bootable key and try to access the usb c ports from that.
I have been reading about my laptop and apparently it has a reputation of usb issues. lenovo x1 yoga gen 2 on win 10
Solved. During a bios update it appears the bios setting for thunderbolt usb-c was changed to disabled. As soon as i discovered this and rebooted it worked so if anyone is having issues with this they may want to check there bios settings.
4 days of struggling over. Dang its nice to beat a computer once in a while.

Do you have Link to Windows enabled on your phone? If so, turn it off and try running DeX.
