Oh dearrrrr. You need to get that sorted. Either you have a faulty mobile or you have screwed your own mobile by exceeding its water resistance. Inside the mobile there are strips that change colour that tell a technician if the owner has surpassed the mobiles safe working ratings. Either way get it sorted at your Samsung outlet.

It fell in the sink for 30 seconds. Hardly it's limit. Everything else works no problems

There is obviously a problem with the camera lens fogged up! My initial advice still stands. Return it to your sales outlet.
IF IF IF the technicians find a fault with the mobile you should be sorted. If they discover water damage inside the mobile it needs to be removed before further damage is done.
Be it a fault with the mobile or misuse on your part you must get it sorted. :good:
Out of interest why did you leave it in the sink for 30 seconds and not retrieve it immediately?

30 seconds submerged in a sink of water is well within the IP rating PROVIDING the temperature of the water in the sink also complies with the IP rating. Remember heat (hot water) greatly reduces the water resistance of this device.
My 'gut feeling' is with Samsung you are going to have a very difficult time convincing them the situation is not a fault on your part but a fault with your particular mobile. For this very reason I NEVER take my mobile anywhere near water and avoid getting it wet under any circumstances. There are well documented cases of water ingress not being the fault of the owner but you KNOW what Samsung will say..... I enjoy Samsung mobiles and other Samsung products unless they have a problem then................Worst customer service I have ever encountered. In this country Samsung sub contract to several warehouses to sell and distribute their goods.
To that end if a fault develops one can often find oneself dealing with some third party sub contractor who has zero interest. Fortunately I pay more but use a multinational chain of stores that have a decent after sales section.
Hope you resolve this problem but fear you are going to have a headache? Let us know how you get on though.
I suggest you don't mention sinks and hot water etc. Hot day and the mobile was in your shorts when you went for a run? Moisture through sweat must be the problem..... I didn't write that.
Ryland

Look at the camera lense and see if you see water in it.
The phone isnt watee proof. It has a few seals to kwep water out.
But its still possible for water to be push in.
Also the camera glass is a crappy spot.
My old s7e had the glass break (how idk) but when i took it apart its a small amount of glue around it holding it in place.
Also remember hearing long time ago that someones glass fell out.
So let thr phone dry out and see if water made it in there

So went to Sprint and they took care of it.

The same thing just happened to my note 8, carrier Sprint. Was ur phone water damaged when you took it to Sprint (the indicator being red in the sim slot). what did you tell them? Help please. Freaking out here. TIA

Ok, there will be a debate for this I'm sure once you send it to the service center. Since the phone claims that you can "soak" it in the water with its ideal time/depth you can have it claimed under warranty. I'm sensing the argument will have to be on the "dropping the phone" part as that technically can void the warranty under "misuse" of device.
Here's my "idiot" workaround for you. Bring the phone to another technician, have it cleaned/wiped/dried of any traces of water inside the phone without the warranty seal tampered (pray to God the sticker is not wet as well), and have that tech guy check if there are any signs of damage due to impact. If there's no trace of damage, bring the phone back to the authorized service center and claim a warranty.
P.S. This is granting though that you didn't fry your motherboard after switching it on.

Rain got in Note8
I have the my phone in bag of rice hoping to dry it out. But here's my question, if I take my phone to TechA and have him dry the phone, what would be my claim for warranty be when I take it to TechB?

I suggest you go to a trusted technician to make sure. Why? You don't want some shady tech guy dismantling and assembling your phone with knock off parts if you still want it under warranty since the service center will look into the internal components of your device.
Same goes to what I posted earlier to ask that tech to wipe out any traces of liquid or liquid stain. Your phone might be dry from the outside but it could be a different case inside.

Would it be any possibility of this?

That sucks! Did you have the insurance from at&t? I have a case on mine and after dropping it a few times on concrete, theres not one scratch or scuff.
Ouch.......
That makes me cringe. It pays to have protective cases and insurance with phones like these...

i'm switching out my shattered Captivate under insurance for an Inspire as of now (get my inspire tomorrow and could not be more excited haha)
but anyway, this led me to look up a little about the prices/difficulty of screen replacement on the inspire vs captivate. Captivate was possible to replace, but being an OLED screen, it was very expensive (something like 130 bucks or so). Inspire replacement screen is only 60 bucks, but wow, i looked at the teardown video and it is downright INSANE. HTC made it as close to impossible to replace a screen as they could.

While having an easily replaceable screen may seem like a huge consumer benefit, I highly doubt the percentage of people that are actually willing and capable to perform a screen replacement are taken into account. I'm sure it is low on the manufacturers list as far as design criteria.

very true....but you also think they would do it to benefit themselves. Think about it, what do you think is the number one service request they get? I'd be willing to bet most of them are cracked screens. I can understand it not being a high on the list of priorities, but if you have watched the DHD teardown video, you would know what i mean lol

yeah but their technicians know how to do it and probably do it frequently. They can probably do it a hell of a lot faster than you can because they do it all the time. Now if you do it, you're probably going to have to make sure you're doing every step correctly to make sure you're doing it correctly.
Also, that sucks...I had a gel case on mine, and it was kind of thin, and I was playing doodle jump while I was walking (stupid) and my friend slammed the door on me (as a joke) and I dropped my phone flat on its back, and since the camera sticks out a bit, the round part around the camera got scratched (not the lens, thankfully)
I might replace it eventually because I saw that you can buy the back part for like $35...so if the back gets any more beat up, I'll replace it. I like my phone looking awesome

right....
what I'm saying is that since they do it more often, they understand what they need to do and probably don't have trouble with it. It's their specialty, so once they learn how to do it, it's probably quick and easy for them. Making it easier for the consumer probably won't make much of a difference for the technicians.
i know what you meant....it just didn't really apply to what i'm talking about at all. Just because they know how to do it, doesn't make it any easier. It is still a long and very tedious process no matter who you are.
Take an iphone 3g for example. 2 phillips screws and a spudger to remove 3 ribbon cables and you are done. Which do you think a technician would rather do??? Something very long and drawn out, sometimes involving a heat gun to loosen the adhesive holding the screen in the chassis (hence, the EVO) or a couple screws and total time taking less than 5 minutes (even for someone like myself).

I had a white amzer silicone case on it but the fact that it belly flopped on pavement proved to be too much. Just ordered an otterbox for my new inspire. Not taking anymore chances.

Yeah I guess. Technicians would also have higher end tools most likely.

No!! First drop, first scratch. [Pic] Teach me how to live with it?

Guys, I have a problem.
I'm always really particular about my tech gear. I have enormous problems dealing with scratches and blemishes.
Yesterday, I was sitting on my dorm's couch watching Mad Men with some friends when I accidentally knocked my phone off the armrest to the tile floor. I do have a case on it, but it landed face-down. I picked it up and it later examined it. (I had already ordered a screen protector; it just hadn't arrived yet.)
I wiped it off with a microfiber cloth and found the tiniest nick in the display. You can't even see it when the screen is on unless you're looking for it and the color that's being displayed under it is just right. It's truly minuscule. Here's a photo of the damage:

(Note that the circled area is the only area that suffered any damage. Everything else is just dust/debris.)
But I can't get over the pressing need to return it. I know I'm being stupid. Can somebody please talk some sense (pun?) into me? This is my favorite phone that I've ever owned, and I want to learn to live with imperfections. I do realize that a screen protector will most likely mask this; it's just the fact that I know that it's there. Any advice? (Also, is it possible to remove a nick this small? I've tried glass cleaner, but that, predictably, didn't work.)
Um, its just a phone?
Scratches suck on phones like they do on cars, but eventually you just gotta get over it and live with the wear and tear.
Ya know, once you apply the screen protector it might be harder to notice there's a mark on the screen--like a thick screen protector (wet application like Zagg or Armorsuit). Those change shape into whatever they're on and fill in cracks. Who knows.
Safelite will come to you.
Seriously though, once you get over it you wont notice it anymore. It is unfortunate but really its gonna happen eventually.
And I doubt anyone is going to return/exchange it for you since its damaged now.
apply a screen protector.... it will make it less notify.
and you will eventually get over it...however it sucks if you planning to sell it after...
that's like 50 $ off...
might as well go try to exchange it - you have nothing to lose. worst they will say is "no" - and you could even try multiple AT&T stores. they might not inspect it or notice it, or you may get a sales rep that just doesn't care.
make up some sort of issue, or say you want to exchange grey for white... it's worth a shot, if you're going to obsess about it!
According to this you need an "aluminum silicate based polishing compound" to fill in the scratches. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449275
Anyone know the case of the HOX from the picture?
Thats why you need a screen protector, gorilla glass or not it will scratch.

When I picked mine up at AT&T the only ones they had were the matte finish ones, but I grabbed one just for the hell of it to be safe. I replaced it with a zagg hd.Don't worry once you put it on it will hide it pretty good!
id take it into the store and tell them you are having random reboot issues, or something thats hard to verify. They should exchange it without much of an issue.

To be honest, all the unethical and shadiness these companies perform on their customers, i have no problem with him doing this. I hope he drops his phone on purpose and returns it 10x over.
Yea, I wouldn't say cheat a person directly, but a company??? Hells yes because they cheat you left and right. Moreover, they're insured. Most people (small business, individuals, etc.) aren't protected in the same way and usually also don't want to rip you off...But do you have any idea what happens if you return a phone? LOL. It has zero effect on them.
Do you know how much waste there is with cell phones? It's redonkulous. To be quite frank, they could be giving us the phones for free.
A lot of the review models they hand out, they don't ask for back (depending on the carrier) and there's piles and piles of the stuff. Some of these review devices are never switched off either. Yes, there's literally 4G LTE modems hanging around fully active looong after they were used for some review article. They just hand stuff out like candy. T-Mobile asks for stuff back, but most other carriers don't.
It's seriously a drop in the bucket. They don't make their money off phones, they make it off plans and early termination fees.
I mean yea I would normally say it's SUPER unethical to return something damaged...But the older I get the more cynical I get I guess. The more I realize that these companies take advantage of us left and right.
Still. I wouldn't actually return it myself to be honest. Not worth the hassle and despite the fact that I know it doesn't hurt them and that I know they take advantage of me...I guess I still like to feel like a more honest person than the company. I dunno.
Anyway, speaking of scratches, does that liquid armor stuff really work?
...or claim insurance. It's what you're paying that for

IRepairFast Review / Problems / Warning

I had this phone for a week keeping it sparkling clean besides the broken glass.
I hit the glass accidentally bumping it off the side of MacBook. Go figure. Yeah I know Gorrila Glass 2 is crap.
Based professionally looking video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5TRf0REyMM
I chose IRepairFast.com to fix my broken glass. I paid $200+.
I am attaching pictures.
Also what you cant see on the pictures. The new screen is definitely not this same quality unless it was not installed properly.
Lastly, there is additional bleed on the buttons.
In retrospective, I should have done it myself or just not to bother fix it. Definitely would not recommend it.

Wow, they beat the crap out of that thing! It looks worse than the time I took apart an iPod Nano, and I quickly decided I suck at taking things like this apart, and don't do it anymore!
Apparently, "I Repair Fast" is not synonymous with "I Repair Well".
On another note, I know that some folks have had light bleed (from the capacitive buttons) on brand new HOX's, so that part may not be their fault, but just the display itself.

I sent them this thread plus extra pictures. Disputing the charge is not an issue to get back the cost of the repair. The bigger damages are that they made $350 phone ($550 bought on amazon - $200 screen replacement cost) worth now $150. So it is additional negative $200 swing.

Hello, this is John from iRepairFast,
The HTC ONE X is a very hard repair. This is due to the thin form factor of the phone pushing the internal components to be extremely compact. In order to accomplish the thin design, it uses an integrated screen, which is the glass, digitizer, and LCD molded together from the factory. These are not possible to separate. When replacing the glass or LCD you have to replace both at the same time. The main problem is the parts that are used for these repairs have the glass and LCD joined by a very thin piece of adhesive. While the parts ARE OEM replacement parts, they aren’t joined together in the same fashion, as when they are assembled in the factory. Due to the glass and LCD being separated by a thin soft piece of adhesive you can get a large amount of screen flex (The glass pressing against the LCD). In order to compensate for the screen flex a liquid adhesive is applied to the outer glass and mid-frame and then wiped off. This eliminates the screen flex problem.
Most likely the issue is that the adhesive didn’t cure correctly and slightly leaked out of the mid-frame during shipping.
We hope that you will contact us about your issue; we apologize for the inconvenience and would like to correct it and reimburse your payment.
That's what I'm talking about ^^^^^^^

wow dude, thats a big wtf. They left glue everywhere. they ruined that phone for sure!
Thanks for posting this thread!
Look in the bright side... At least you didn't pay $300.
But seriously, it is a hard repair. Just look at a disassembly on YouTube, its freaking ridiculous, especially if you've repaired other phones, such as myself. The Samsung Vibrant, 3rd gen iPod Touch, and HTC Mytouch 4G are a breeze compared to this.
I do agree on the screen adhesive however, I bought some 1mm double sided tape to put the screen and phone back together, and it still creaked a little.
Good thing he offered to replace it, I'd be super pissed.

You can smash it into a thousand million pieces with a hammer and still do an insurance claim. Warranty is another story.
The fact that iRepair took the time out to reply via forum and issue a refund..... and attempt to correct their mistake. Says that they're a reputable company.

[Q] Have people had cracks repaired or refused

My screen just cracked on my Z3. No drops, no twisting. Just in my front pocket.
It's just a single crack going diagonally from side to side, no marks on case or chips in the glass.
I've requested a return to Sony. Although the phone is insured, I want to make an Issue with Sony as I think this is a manufacturers fault and shouldn't have to be paid by my insurance company.
I did try and search this topic and will fill in the survey later when I can access google drive. but...
I would like to know if people have had cracked screens repaired or refused.
If there are a majority of cracks repaired under warranty it would stand me in good stead as "proof" there is a fault. If the phone was not repaired, at least we know we may as well save the hassle and just self repair.
so simple question...
If you have a had a cracked screen, did it get repaired under warranty?

Don't think you'll get many replies, certainly not enough thousand replies to justify this as a "fault". These things aren't normal and 99% of the time are drops.
I dropped mine from shoulder height, no case, onto wooden floor, no damage.
I have a crack...no drop, no nothing. I'll post pic once I get access to a camera. Hoping to get it warranty
Hi. My classmate has the same problem, but with the back glass of z3. She has z3 for just one week! No drop, or anything. She normally keeps her z3 in handbag. Today she pulled out her mobile and we saw this:

It's realy embarrassing, 7 days after getting phone. My N4 dropped thousant times, and nothing happened - it has glass at a back too.

If you look at the bottom you can see the impact point. Like a ball-point hammer impact.

It couldn't be pen or something like this. She hadn't anything in her bag except books and soft pen-box. Does anyone know if Sony repairs damages like this for warranty?

Here is the crack on mine. (all other marks are just bits of dust)
There is a survey thread here:

In the 2nd photo it appears that the metal frame is sticking out. There's even a gap in between the frame and the glass... could it be that the crack was caused by an external physical damage?

I see. It's a lighting thing as it does not look like that on the device itself (needed angle to show the crack). The back itself has a tiny gap at that corner and the diagonally opposite corner between the side and the back plate itself (and subsequently hardly any gap on the other two corners). Something that always annoyed me about the new corner pieces is that when you run your finger around the outside, it's noticeable that they don't sit as flush as the straight sides
Just to answer my own question, my phone was sent away Friday, I messaged them today and it *appears* (so far) it's a free repair and just waiting on parts, I should have it back next week.
So kudos to the service centre.
Now lets look at an armoured case then.....
I find this self crack thing hard to believe. I've owned a z1, z2 and z3 and this has never happened to me.
If it is true would xperia care not take care of it? If its a self crack it should come out clean in an inspection right?
Edit: oh thats great to hear [emoji3]

My phone is insured. My phone would be replaced quicker by reporting it lost than sending it back to sony. The worst case for me is a £30 excess but a quicker turn around. I have no problem admiting ive broke phones, water damage or had them lost or stolen.
Sony have repaired it FOC (missing parts..... so going to take a few weeks), I dont need to convince anyone of what happened. Belive me or not, it makes no difference. Genuine. It broke in my pocket on the way to work. I'm not having a pop at you. Im just as incredulious that a phone could break in my pocket. But it did.
Anyway, after 10 days got an email from sony, out of stock on parts... have they had to replCe so many they have run out? Or just run minimal stock.... anyway... watch this space.
Final Update.
I got a Phone back. Different emei number so I guess they got bored and sent a new one. at 3 weeks, I hope it's that last time I have to send anything back

i tested the S7E waterproofness in a fish pond the results are good....

so i put my S7E silver with its spigen case and pure gear screen protector into my fish pond for a test
video turned out good sound was bad because of the pump inside the pond so i canceled it
slowmotion video test
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bmt5PSk--U
hyperlapse test
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzCEnKFlels
once i took the device it out of the water it worked as usual and the touch was very responsive even when the display is wet
it seems that might be the reason they made the display is so sensitive
the S7E responded better to water then my xperia z5
after the test i just washed it in the sink and let it dry on some paper towels and then returned to normal usage and wireless charging
tbh, that slo mo blew me away, video quality is awesome

video looks even much better on the phone youtube compression is bad for slow motion
Cool, and good to know. I think I'll still avoid dunking mine on purpose.
Very cool vid
I tested several times in running water and a sink full....its obvious its pressure sensitive because it opened up recent panel and closed out all my apps lol. GREAT POST.
BTW the device is also Vodka proof
was at a wedding yesterday and someone spill some vodka on it by drunk accident
i just washed it in a sink and all is well

It's no doubt able to withstand a spill, but be careful. The S7/S7E's IP68 rating depends on the surface tension of liquid water to keep it out of its internals. They are only required to test the device in "pure water" as other liquids including even soapy water can penetrate places pure water can't. Steam and mist can also penetrate places pure liquid water can't, and though steam or mist probably won't do as much damage to the internals, it will turn the water damage indicators red voiding the warranty.
Not meaning to drag this thread off topic--only hoping to keep somebody from ruining a beautiful $700 phone :crying:
Unless your a tester, it is pretty stupid to dunk your phone just to see if it survives.
If Samsung finds out, your warranty will be no good. On purpose trying to damage a phone.

Hue hue ... I found them really funny... but yea, what about the warranty ? Well Lil Wayne doesnt have this kind of concerns but we have
That slo-mo video was awesome blood.... Very impressive clarity for being underwater.
Thanks for doing this!
Forgot I had my phone in my pocket when I jumped into the water (sea water) and waded onto a beach. Phone was fine, even took a few photos while I was there. I just soaked it in some tap water and dried it with a towel when I got back.
I did find that some water can linger around the home button/fingerprint sensor because even though the phone looked dry, a few droplets would turn up every time I pressed the home button.

nope, they already approved that the phone is waterproof.. if your phone got damaged by sinking it in water (less than 30 meter and less than 1.5 hour or simtray is open) then they owe you a new phone.. because thats mean its at fault by factory..

Not true... if they find out that you deliberately tried to ruin the phone, it would void it. I asked at the Verizon store today...

The warranty still doesn't cover phones with water damage. I'd suggest that anyone confused about this read the following article:
Water resistant phones: the essential do’s and don’ts | Android Authority
As the article says, a $700 flagship phone doesn't become a bath toy because it has an IP rating. If your phone gets water damaged, they aren't obligated to cover it. What the OP did is pretty cool, but he did it at his own risk.

That's a really dangerous statement to make. They have said it's water RESISTANT. However they would not cover water damage to the phone at all. There is no way to prove how far and how long you submerged the phone for anyway.

You are right.. no phone have warranty for water damage today
Not even the Sony Xperia phones
if want to film underwater with your phone its safer to just put the phone in a waterproof pouch
