What is LTE+? - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Got a pixel nice phone. Using the phone on Telus, I notice when I'm using data I've seen 4 different modes. H, H+, LTE and LTE+. I've seen all of them before except for LTE+. I can't find much info on it on google. Can anyone explain what this is?

Just bull**** marketing terms to the consumer which is really only beneficial to the providers right now.

[Q] NO HSPA+/Only EDGE on Simple Mobile

So I bought a Samsung Infuse off Craigslist. I love it, it's awesome. I use the Simple Mobile $60/m plan. I previously had a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant before the Infuse. I used to run CM7 but used Bionix 1.31 as my ROM on my Vibrant. So I'm familiar with the ends and outs of this technology.
The Situation: Samsung Infuse running latest "unofficial build" CM7, flawless performance. After doing much research as to APN settings on Google and XDA I found that the internet is wrong with the APN settings for HSPA+ on a HSPA+ capable phones. I called Simple Mobile yesterday and we did an OTA (she spoke I listened) configuration of the APN and it's full of IP addresses nao. She said that will allow me to access the "4G" network. The thing is, it says "E" for EDGE at the top for my signal....consistently.
The Problem: The EDGE never changes, also according to various speedtest's I can't EVER break .50kbs DL speed off of WiFi.
So I tried switching out various modems that we're available to me for the Infuse via the CWM flashable's. I've seen NO IMPROVEMENT on data speeds after each modem.
So what exactly is the issue: Am I doing something wrong via XDA material? Or am I just ****ed on HSPA+/4G speeds?

You are right and WRONG all at the same time...fascinating isn't it!
Simple Mobile does in FACT use T-Mobile Towers, however; before I rocked the Infuse I've seen other speeds that read 3G/H. The Simple Mobile Network offers 4G/HSPA+ with the $60/m plan that I am currently on.
So with that information, how would you explain that a phone that is HSPA+ capable and programmed correctly that sits on the EDGE network and still doesn't break .50kbs DL speed??
I spoke with customer service at Simple Mobile and several other Simple Mobile retailers that told me up one wall and down the other that the Samsung Infuse programmed correctly should FLY without WiFi, this phone should act like the rocket it claims to be with data on the network.
Instead it is slow, sux and is worthless without WiFi.
So how come you tell me one thing, and several people that work for the Network and people that are affiliated with it tell me another?
Simple because there trying to sell you. Remember its a business?

I own a business; I know about selling. But according to my research, your a little or alot off; I just can't exactly prove it.
I know that AT&T offers 4Gish speeds (true LTE in like 2 cities in TX), and that T-Mobile offers 3.5+G-4Gish speeds.
I also understand the concept of up-selling, however that scenario does not apply with my current plan and situation.
Has it, or has it NOT been documented ANYWHERE that an HSPA+ capable phone on the $60/m Simple Mobile plan achieved true or realistic data DL speeds off WiFi?
I am no tech or anywhere educated in this topic. But why are you comparing network speeds with your wifi? Or am I missing something here?

I'm not using WiFi as a comparison, just as another option for higher DL speeds. Off WiFi I've seen snails crawl faster than my data can move.
I just want to know why I can't get anything better than **** with this great phone and supposedly "reasonably-good" network.

They simply dont know wat they r talking about, they r trained within their own company and dont know that other bands exist and not all 4G r on the same band, same for 3G. So i suggest u sell ur phone and get a tmobile phone or switch to ATT. Next time when u buy a phone, insert ur Sim card in and test the network before u pay

The phone was NETWORK LOCKED when I bought it, so I guess I suppose I'm glad you we'rent with my when I bought it lol.
I'll take into mild consideration that a multitude of people may not be aware of alternate existing networks.
The T-Mobile phone I had before licked ****ing sac, my buddy has a Captivate that OVER-SHINED my Vibrant any day of the week - So No, I won't buy a phone from a company that's supposedly being bought out BY AT&T.
From previous quotes: It seems that we are implying that ONLY a T-MOBILE BRAND PHONE can access the 4Gish HSPA+ speeds that Simple Mobile network (that uses T-Mobile towers) and not an AT&T branded phone.
Yes, it's true....the above DOES in fact sound stupid when I put it on paper. AT&T and T-Mobile use the same towers and Simple Mobile/Metro PCS (some other un-explained networks) use the SAME towers.
So how is it, according to posters: That replacing AT&T phone with T-Mobile garbage will allow me to acquire the DL speeds that reference HSPA+/4G speeds. AND NOT, under any circumstances is it possible for an AT&T phone that uses the same towers to get the same outcome?
OK, the last part really does sound stupid, I feel like I'm arguing with a mockingbird. Anyone else have any further to offer?

Actually I re-read this statement. AT&T don't use the same bands, something about T-Mobile uses 850 and AT&T uses 1700.
Would changing the band selection make a difference? How to if possible?
I think u can only change the APN, not the band, the band is hardware, not software. I had the same problem trying to use my Desire HD on tmobile and couldnt get anything more than edge. I did also ask questions here and all i got is the answer i told u. So sell ur phone asap, dont wait until its price drops more

Will straight talk sim work on not "straight talk phones"?
Which cheapest phone of straight talk I have to buy to get their SIM-card?
I know they selling GSM and CDMA phones and don't want to buy wrong one.
Flat Out answer only the 2G or EDGE bands in the phone are compatible with ATT networks the other bands are different so if you want bettter speeds get att or use wi-fi because edge is all you will ever get no matter what you do to the APN
like on the previous post mentioned, i think most of the att phones doesn't have the radio that is capable of receiving the 3g/4g frequencies tmobile use. i could be wrong, but i think is a hardware problem rather than a setting you can change.
Simple mobile is Tmobile, 3g may never work.
Strait talk is a variety of carriers, depends on,the specific phone. The only known phones that work from the att network and have a Sim that works in other phones are the expensive Nokia smart phones. But those also have a Tmobile variant, I don't know how to tell the difference without looking at the Sim.
There is also consumer cellular, apparently that,is att but I don't know if it's full talk text and Web or how it's billed.

Consumer Cellular is VERY "no-frills" - it's only for VERY light users.
There is no AT&T phone that I know of that supports the 1700 MHz band required for T-Mobile 3G.
The only phone I know of that has pentaband HSPA+ (works on both AT&T and T-Mobile) is the Galaxy Nexus.
When I programmed my HTC Evo 3D i saw various optinos for cdma/eg/4g in CDMA Workshop & QPST Service Programming, what I saw was diferent types of bands and freqz, you might wana check out a phone's specs of tmobile and then check if those specs (frqz & bands) match with the one set on your device...
For example
The Vocoder settings
band prefferences :
band class 0/1/2/3/4/5/ sys a/b/
GSM DSC 1800
GSM extended 900
Etc etc.... check with the device's password on it's profiles and realms (settings I can view on my evo using ##data# )
I can confirm that the issue is with the phones. I just ran a test using my simple mobile card on an AT&T Infuse vs Tmobile Vibrant 4G.
AT&T Infuse
Edge connection with 50kps max
Tmobile Vibrant 4G
3G connection with 240kps max
I will be going to staright talk at the end on this billing cycle.

Unlocked ATRIX 2, currently on T-Mobile. Can I get 4g?

My service bars are full but it has an "E" instead of 2g, 3g, or as I would prefer, 4g. Does anyone know if I will have to root my phone? Or what my limits are considering it is unlocked and working on T-Mobile?

Im pretty sure you're gonna be stuck with Edge as in the bands are different for 3G and Hspa
I have a friend that has an Atrix 4g unlocked on T-Mobile, and he has claimed to have gotten a 4g signal in one fringe area. He said that it was very spotty at best but it worked. I suspect it was some kind or roam signal he caught, or he was delusional. But Edge is definitely the best you will get since the frequencies are different. There is no fix for that, it is a hardware thing.
Oh wow... that really sucks. Thanks for the answers though. What if I root it or that still wouldn't be able to help? Edge is pretty ****ty service for such a nice phone, which is why I got it... plus I got a hell of a deal on it lol

I have heard the same as lilhaiti & JRW 28. Tmobile has different frequencies and the best you're gonna get with a non Tmobile phone is Edge. And as said prior, it's a hardware thing, not software.

Atrix 2 Unlocked No Signal
I have successfully removed the network lock on an Atrix 2 but gets absolutely no signal/emergency calls only with a T-Mobile sim. When I search for Network providers only AT&T shows. I was wondering if the radio was locked for some reason. Anyone else had this problem?
(For those of you who like to throw out the simplest ideas: Yes T-Mobile has service in the area. Yes: I have done a reset and chaged sims etc..)

That was my thought too. What plan are you on? I read that you can use their 30 dallar unlimited plan when you activate a new sim card.
I still have the hope that at some point after the BL gets unlocked we might get a hacked radio kernel of sorts that will allow use of t mobile bands..... The global 2 did something like this to allow use of t mobile...... One can hope.....

You can get 4G on T-Mobile, but only in certain areas as of right now. Pretty soon though, after T-Mobile starts utilizing the frequencies gained from the deal going through, you should start seeing more 4G in more places. But we have to wait and see if it actually happens.

PS. The 4G HSPA is fake 4G, it is just an enhanced 3G connection. So in reality Hspa = 3G

I live in Vietnam, and I have a problem with Vinaphone network, added APN, but can only use HSPA (4G icon).
If I switch to GPRS (E icon), it says connected, but I cannot ping pass.
Other network (Viettel) is normal.
Even if the bootloader gets unlocked I still believe it would be a hardware issue not an issue of the radio software. They use the same 2g frequency so you can still get edge, but when it comes to 3g they operate on different frequencies. Some phones are made with the hardware for both frequencies though. My Samsung Vibrant (Tmobile phone) actually had the hardware to be used on AT&T 3g! The radio software was an issue unfortunately and it didn't switch well between 2g and 3g, tried all sorts of radio software but had no luck back then.
From what people have experienced by taking this phone to AT&T though, its looking like the Atrix 2 doesn't have the right hardware for the Tmobile 3g frequency.
I'm not one to say something is impossible though. Who knows.. maybe through the failed merger of AT&T and TMobile, TMobile was somehow able to gain access to some of AT&T's 3g towers (doubtful), since they did gain coverage through the breakup agreement after the merger failed.

It shouldn't mess with IMEI. I believe you might need to manually set your APN depending on your use case.

1. it depends on T-mobile network. Most of the rural areas have 2g/3g and Edge. In the major cities, they are being upgraded to 4g/LTE. I know because I am working on the project for NYC and area. But its being rolled out into most major cities now.
2. You will need a T mobile GSM and add the correct APN settings to your phone to work on T mobile.
3. As stated in 1, if you live in a major city then it could be worth it. If you are in the sticks, I would ask others what service they are using, if its any better.

If your phone is from T-mobile then you don't need them. But if you buy a gsm sim from a supplier such as Straightalk, on their website they have a video and tell you what to enter so your SIM works on T-mobile.

LTE mode

So I've noticed that since I've flashed the PAC rom that this is the first time that I've actually seen LTE mode work on my phone. Is there something that the other roms are not utilizing that is making this function possible?
So... on CM10.2 you are saying LTE does not function?
I'm not aware of "anything special" on PAC, which ROM's have you tried where it does not work?

Ok cool.....that was one thing I had been confused about which was what LTE actually was. About 6 months ago there was about a week long span that I was without phone service in my area because Sprint was upgrading their towers to LTE but when everything was back to normal I didn't notice anything different about the performance of my service with Sprint. And LTE was supposed to be the next "BIG" thing. Still not so sure whats special about it since the 4G has always been there.

LTE is quite a big faster then EVDO, which is all I have in my area. Well, there's WiMax, but I don't want to confuse you lol.
Basically there are many different flavors of 4 geeee. The best part? The official board that determines what is and what isn't 3g/4g say that none of what the carrier's advertise is technically 4g.
So, hizzah. Welcome to the marketing party. I can tell you that LTE is faster than EVDO. Do a speed test (there's a few apps on the Play Store) on 4g, and then force your phone to 3g or next time you go somewhere there is no 4g, try another speed test... there's a pretty big difference .

Exactly.
Wifi will still have its place - I don't see LTE being a solution for stadiums. In the home, I don't see people running out and replacing their home internet connections with LTE access points.
But LTE is starting to become a viable option as a backup internet circuit for businesses. Cisco is starting to put LTE-ready modules in their business-class gateways.
Here we are, and look at South Korea, already launched LTE-A or LTE Advanced...

AT&T LTE on Verizon Variant?

Ok so I know that the Verizon M8 is unlocked and works on AT&T. I'm also aware that HSPA+ is supposed to be as good as it gets which is fine with me.because for the most part my service is terrible on AT&T as I live in a little Podunk town that doesn't have LTE. That being said the cities to the north and south of me both have LTE. I recently acquired the Verizon M8 and have made several trips to.both places and the phone always just shows H with the signal. Today however I happened to look at my phone and it's showing LTE, not only that but everything.is functioning. Internet, sending and.receiving sms and mms, and making calls all works.
Is there something.obvious I'm missing? To the best of my knowledge I shouldn't be getting LTE and my speed test pegged me at about 8 down but signal was weak so that doesn't surprise me.

Why did you buy a Verizon M8 to use on AT&T? If you're on AT&T, get the AT&T version. There's a reason carrier specific versions are sold, and it's not only because the carriers are evil demons out to butt rape your wallet.
The network designs of Verizon and AT&T are radically different, and even if the M8 has the hardware for both the different variants are designed out of the box to only work with one.
So, even if you did get it to work with AT&T's network, who knows what kind of problems you may be experiencing. It may just be network congestion, it may be something else. Point it, it's tough to troubleshoot when you bought a device from the wrong carrier, as you just introduced a whole new crazy variable into the equation.

Slow down there captain. I'm not complaining about service issues or anything of the sort. I'm questioning whether it's actually possible that I could be getting AT&T LTE on the Verizon Variant. The circumstances behind why I have the Verizon version are completely irrelevant. I have an s5 I can use if I want and if it makes you happy it is the AT&T version.
I understand the differences between AT&T and Verizon's infrastructure, but it just so happens that the Verizon m8 has everything I need to function perfectly for me. So please take the time to actually address what I was asking instead of judging me for not purchasing the device you think I should have.

Bravo just another basher that was quick to judge and his only intent was to try to put you down. It sucks that you cant erase peoples comments off of your posting because its posts like that that you should be able to delete. My philosophy is if you cant say anything nice please dont say anything at all. Some people just love to put down others or their opinions, questions or comments. :good:
You realize that he didnt answer the question being asked and instead asked why did you buy that variant! And no, I dont think cloudraker was putting him down in any way.

Why don't you try Convert it to AT&T or Unlock more LTE band
