htc inspire and with connecting Tmobile - HTC Inspire 4G

Ive spoken to many tmobile chat employees and they all say that the htc inspire can have 3g and 4g speeds with them. i havent seen a more recent thread or post about it since mid 2011. does anyone here have any confirmation or things they'd like to share??
thanks alot!

I believe it has HSPA, which is more like 3.5G.

Well thats better than getting edge right? haha
i have a question about imei. if i root the phone and install a custom rom does it erase or mess with the imei or any of the connections such as apn settings and stuff?

It shouldn't mess with IMEI. I believe you might need to manually set your APN depending on your use case.

1. it depends on T-mobile network. Most of the rural areas have 2g/3g and Edge. In the major cities, they are being upgraded to 4g/LTE. I know because I am working on the project for NYC and area. But its being rolled out into most major cities now.
2. You will need a T mobile GSM and add the correct APN settings to your phone to work on T mobile.
3. As stated in 1, if you live in a major city then it could be worth it. If you are in the sticks, I would ask others what service they are using, if its any better.

I'm in a town of 100,000...all I ever got was T-Mobile edge and half the time the signal was crappy...

If your phone is from T-mobile then you don't need them. But if you buy a gsm sim from a supplier such as Straightalk, on their website they have a video and tell you what to enter so your SIM works on T-mobile.

Ever since the nationwide outtage a week ago my 4g has been spotty at best.
I have noticed slower 4g speeds on average and it drops alot more as well.

yeah, stop dropping it
I had the same problem after spending a weekend in Mexico - they replaced my SIM card at the store and it has worked fine ever sense.
I keep cycling through 3g/1X and the network is constantly unavailable, wtf is going on? Im so disappointed with this phone so far.
I dont know if I need to install a new radio? I installed bamfs remix 1.6 and some lean kernel, did I do something wrong? My Incredible never had these issues
Where do you live? That obviously matters, 4g coverage keeps expanding in Chicagoland area, I get 4g almost everywhere I go.
I live in Akron, I get full 4g bars then it drops to nothing, then 1x, then 3G. its unreal
Did you enter your address in the coverage map? Don't know how big Akron 4g coverage is, but again, I rarely ever lose 4g around Chicago and the burbs.
Unrooted BOLT, same issue with connection
I have been seeing the same about the connectivity being bad. I live in burbs of Philadelphia, only about 20 mins from city so i'm not going to pin it on my location..
So you are rooted? I however am not. Just got the thing and wanted to see how it was for a bit before rooting, but now i'm thinking before i root i better make sure the phone isn't crap or i'm not gonna be able to return it.
Ugh. Let me know if you're going to try and call VZ, HTC, or whatever. PM me if you find anything.

I'm in Wilmington, DE.
Mine is going up and down, as well as getting 3G or just bars in areas that should be 4G.
Another person in the office here, which should be good 4G, also having his phone do the same.
I'm rooted, he is stock.
It happens to me just about anywhere I go lately.

Pretty much from Mid-County to the Lehigh Valley exit is still 3G in most areas but south towards the city and in the Lehigh Valley itself is all LTE. I travel down from Allentown to Philly regularly and I can tell you this from personal experience.
FYI Lehigh Valley LTE is down right now but I just got out of a meeting with Verizon (less than an hour ago) and they supposedly knew there was some maintenance being done in our area (so that may be the reason for the current outage.) If you switch out of LTE Mode to CDMA LTE auto you should pick up 3G (I'd also enable airplane mode and then disable it to pick up a strong 3G for right now.)
Oh and +1 on the rooted/non-rooted thing. You can flash back to non-rooted stock from a rooted state to send it back. Instructions are in the development forum.

Hi there, thanks for that info i appreciate it. I seem to be missing where htc allows us to switch btwn the 4g and 3g, i searched for the question but didn't get much results. So i'll my noob question right here. Where is that done?
I see under Settings > Wire & networks > Mobile network settings there is a System select option, for "Change the cdma roaming mode", is this where i'm supposed to be? Roaming doesn't seem to be the area i'd think to have to change this particular thing, but i don't see much else in these menus. Please advise or link a thread that i didn't see in my results.
Verizon has a problem with their new eHRPD network.. which is what the Thunderbolt is on by default.. (this allows for 4G + simultaneous talk and browse on 3G).. However, though 4G works OK, 3G doesn't seem to.
In order to tap into Verizon's original 3G network.. dial ##778# on your phone.. go to edit mode (you'll see pop up after you dial that number)..password is 000000 (6 zeros).. go to modem settings.. Rev.A and eHRPD is probably selected there by default.. choose "Enable" option... which will kick it out of eHRPD and then hit menu.. commit changes.. and the phone will reboot. You'll be on Verizon's original 3G network which will work fine.. but you won't have 4G.
I don't know about you but I still have 4g...

Using an unlocked Inspire in Europe

I will be travelling to Europe in the next few weeks, and have some questions about using my inspire.
I have already unlocked my phone by calling AT&T and getting the code, then inserting another SIM, and entering the code. So I am good to go in that regard.
When I get to Europe, I just buy a SIM card and put it in the phone, which will allow me to make calls. What about overseas calls?
What about data? Do the SIM cards allow you to access data? Will I get 4G, or be restricted to Edge?
Honestly, I am more interested in Data than voice, as I am more likely to send/receive e-mails that call.
Would I be better off signing up temporarility with one of the AT&T international plans?
Thanks!

Research the area you are going and find which the carriers are and see who's related to who. If you find a carrier thats somewhat related to att you may get 3g or 4g, but T-Mobile you'll get edge. Also call or get in contact with carrier and see what they have, dunno how it works overseas cuz i never really been overseas with my phone. Hope it helps and if anyone see anything I mentioned that's wrong you're welcome to A) correct me and B) call me mean evil names =D

Bluizzo you ninja turtle you. Lol just a slight correction. Europe uses different bands than us. So no 3g, just good old edge. Though I think I saw someone post that their country used our bands somewhere. But generally they use the 900/2100 for 3g.
I would get a prepaid sim from a euoropean carrier. They have way better deals that put our prices to shame.

The main countries that uses the same ATT band are Canada and Australia for 3G. The rest use the same bands Tmobile uses.
Thanks for the info. Looks like I will be picking up a SIM when I get there.
Hopefully my reply is not too late.....
I have been travelling to London for work for the last several months and have used O2 as the carrier on my Inspire. I was able to get a pay as you go SIM with a data plan. You will need to manually enter the APN information get the data and MMS working properly. I found the APN info by doing a web search.
And yes the service was Edge and not 3G.

EDGE should be an "E". "G" is GPRS which is like 1G or worse, but hey, if it works for you, then great, but you should be able to get EDGE with the proper APN.

Can't seem to get EDGE, just the G. Which is OK, since all I am doing is checking e-mails.
However, my battery life has improved dramatically. I don't even need the powerskin case here. Battery lasts all day, no problem.
It's incredible how much battery is used by a fast network.

Indeed. Especially if it needs to boost the radio for reception. I was camping a few months back on the fringe of coverage area. The first day, I left mobile networks on and it kept going in and out of coverage and my battery was dead within about 14 hours. The next day, with a fresh charge from my car, I turned off mobile networks and I still had 80% battery by the end of the day.

[Q] NO HSPA+/Only EDGE on Simple Mobile

So I bought a Samsung Infuse off Craigslist. I love it, it's awesome. I use the Simple Mobile $60/m plan. I previously had a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant before the Infuse. I used to run CM7 but used Bionix 1.31 as my ROM on my Vibrant. So I'm familiar with the ends and outs of this technology.
The Situation: Samsung Infuse running latest "unofficial build" CM7, flawless performance. After doing much research as to APN settings on Google and XDA I found that the internet is wrong with the APN settings for HSPA+ on a HSPA+ capable phones. I called Simple Mobile yesterday and we did an OTA (she spoke I listened) configuration of the APN and it's full of IP addresses nao. She said that will allow me to access the "4G" network. The thing is, it says "E" for EDGE at the top for my signal....consistently.
The Problem: The EDGE never changes, also according to various speedtest's I can't EVER break .50kbs DL speed off of WiFi.
So I tried switching out various modems that we're available to me for the Infuse via the CWM flashable's. I've seen NO IMPROVEMENT on data speeds after each modem.
So what exactly is the issue: Am I doing something wrong via XDA material? Or am I just ****ed on HSPA+/4G speeds?

You are right and WRONG all at the same time...fascinating isn't it!
Simple Mobile does in FACT use T-Mobile Towers, however; before I rocked the Infuse I've seen other speeds that read 3G/H. The Simple Mobile Network offers 4G/HSPA+ with the $60/m plan that I am currently on.
So with that information, how would you explain that a phone that is HSPA+ capable and programmed correctly that sits on the EDGE network and still doesn't break .50kbs DL speed??
I spoke with customer service at Simple Mobile and several other Simple Mobile retailers that told me up one wall and down the other that the Samsung Infuse programmed correctly should FLY without WiFi, this phone should act like the rocket it claims to be with data on the network.
Instead it is slow, sux and is worthless without WiFi.
So how come you tell me one thing, and several people that work for the Network and people that are affiliated with it tell me another?

I own a business; I know about selling. But according to my research, your a little or alot off; I just can't exactly prove it.
I know that AT&T offers 4Gish speeds (true LTE in like 2 cities in TX), and that T-Mobile offers 3.5+G-4Gish speeds.
I also understand the concept of up-selling, however that scenario does not apply with my current plan and situation.
Has it, or has it NOT been documented ANYWHERE that an HSPA+ capable phone on the $60/m Simple Mobile plan achieved true or realistic data DL speeds off WiFi?
I am no tech or anywhere educated in this topic. But why are you comparing network speeds with your wifi? Or am I missing something here?

I'm not using WiFi as a comparison, just as another option for higher DL speeds. Off WiFi I've seen snails crawl faster than my data can move.
I just want to know why I can't get anything better than **** with this great phone and supposedly "reasonably-good" network.

The phone was NETWORK LOCKED when I bought it, so I guess I suppose I'm glad you we'rent with my when I bought it lol.
I'll take into mild consideration that a multitude of people may not be aware of alternate existing networks.
The T-Mobile phone I had before licked ****ing sac, my buddy has a Captivate that OVER-SHINED my Vibrant any day of the week - So No, I won't buy a phone from a company that's supposedly being bought out BY AT&T.
From previous quotes: It seems that we are implying that ONLY a T-MOBILE BRAND PHONE can access the 4Gish HSPA+ speeds that Simple Mobile network (that uses T-Mobile towers) and not an AT&T branded phone.
Yes, it's true....the above DOES in fact sound stupid when I put it on paper. AT&T and T-Mobile use the same towers and Simple Mobile/Metro PCS (some other un-explained networks) use the SAME towers.
So how is it, according to posters: That replacing AT&T phone with T-Mobile garbage will allow me to acquire the DL speeds that reference HSPA+/4G speeds. AND NOT, under any circumstances is it possible for an AT&T phone that uses the same towers to get the same outcome?
OK, the last part really does sound stupid, I feel like I'm arguing with a mockingbird. Anyone else have any further to offer?

Actually I re-read this statement. AT&T don't use the same bands, something about T-Mobile uses 850 and AT&T uses 1700.
Would changing the band selection make a difference? How to if possible?
I think u can only change the APN, not the band, the band is hardware, not software. I had the same problem trying to use my Desire HD on tmobile and couldnt get anything more than edge. Will straight talk sim work on not "straight talk phones"?
Which cheapest phone of straight talk I have to buy to get their SIM-card?
I know they selling GSM and CDMA phones and don't want to buy wrong one.
Flat Out answer only the 2G or EDGE bands in the phone are compatible with ATT networks the other bands are different so if you want bettter speeds get att or use wi-fi because edge is all you will ever get no matter what you do to the APN
like on the previous post mentioned, i think most of the att phones doesn't have the radio that is capable of receiving the 3g/4g frequencies tmobile use. i could be wrong, but i think is a hardware problem rather than a setting you can change.
Simple mobile is Tmobile, 3g may never work.
Strait talk is a variety of carriers, depends on,the specific phone. The only known phones that work from the att network and have a Sim that works in other phones are the expensive Nokia smart phones. But those also have a Tmobile variant, I don't know how to tell the difference without looking at the Sim.
There is also consumer cellular, apparently that,is att but I don't know if it's full talk text and Web or how it's billed.

Consumer Cellular is VERY "no-frills" - it's only for VERY light users.
There is no AT&T phone that I know of that supports the 1700 MHz band required for T-Mobile 3G.
The only phone I know of that has pentaband HSPA+ (works on both AT&T and T-Mobile) is the Galaxy Nexus.
When I programmed my HTC Evo 3D i saw various optinos for cdma/eg/4g in CDMA Workshop & QPST Service Programming, what I saw was diferent types of bands and freqz, you might wana check out a phone's specs of tmobile and then check if those specs (frqz & bands) match with the one set on your device...
For example
The Vocoder settings
band prefferences :
band class 0/1/2/3/4/5/ sys a/b/
GSM DSC 1800
GSM extended 900
Etc etc.... check with the device's password on it's profiles and realms (settings I can view on my evo using ##data# )
I can confirm that the issue is with the phones. I just ran a test using my simple mobile card on an AT&T Infuse vs Tmobile Vibrant 4G.
AT&T Infuse
Edge connection with 50kps max
Tmobile Vibrant 4G
3G connection with 240kps max
I will be going to staright talk at the end on this billing cycle.

So I've noticed that since I've flashed the PAC rom that this is the first time that I've actually seen LTE mode work on my phone. Is there something that the other roms are not utilizing that is making this function possible?
So... on CM10.2 you are saying LTE does not function?
I'm not aware of "anything special" on PAC, which ROM's have you tried where it does not work?

Well let me ask you this....is 4G and LTE the same thing or is LTE strictly for data? With CM10.2 I get the 4G but with PAC this is the first time that I've seen LTE show in my status bar and this is with any ROM that I've tried weather it be SlimBean or CM10.2 or Carbon.

4g == LTE on your device.
4g can be many different things, but in the realm of the Photon Q, on Sprint - it's LTE.

Ok cool.....that was one thing I had been confused about which was what LTE actually was. About 6 months ago there was about a week long span that I was without phone service in my area because Sprint was upgrading their towers to LTE but when everything was back to normal I didn't notice anything different about the performance of my service with Sprint. And LTE was supposed to be the next "BIG" thing. Still not so sure whats special about it since the 4G has always been there.

LTE is quite a big faster then EVDO, which is all I have in my area. Well, there's WiMax, but I don't want to confuse you lol.
Basically there are many different flavors of 4 geeee. The best part? The official board that determines what is and what isn't 3g/4g say that none of what the carrier's advertise is technically 4g.
So, hizzah. Welcome to the marketing party. I can tell you that LTE is faster than EVDO. Do a speed test (there's a few apps on the Play Store) on 4g, and then force your phone to 3g or next time you go somewhere there is no 4g, try another speed test... there's a pretty big difference .

Ok......I did the speed test and now I do see the considerable difference between LTE and EVDO. Heck in a lot of cases it seems that LTE is faster than wifi which makes me wonder how much longer wifi is gonna be around if that continues to be the case.

Exactly.
Wifi will still have its place - I don't see LTE being a solution for stadiums. In the home, I don't see people running out and replacing their home internet connections with LTE access points.
But LTE is starting to become a viable option as a backup internet circuit for businesses. Cisco is starting to put LTE-ready modules in their business-class gateways.
Here we are, and look at South Korea, already launched LTE-A or LTE Advanced...

Damn I can only imagine how fast that is! That would be like LTE FIOS lol.
I worked for a telecom contractor doing the broadband backhaul for Sprint around the Philadelphia area..... and depending on the individual site, you was looking at hooking up Comcast, Verizon, Zayo, and several others fiber optics to the Sprint towers..... and this was Business Class Data, so it was in the 50GB ranges for speed

That would be nice if Sprint had a FIOS system that they could use.

LTE wouldn't work without fiber, I assure you they are using fiber to string the new LTE sites...

No 3G/4G on i535 with a T-Mobile Sim

I'm a T-Mobile user and recently purchased a Verizon Galaxy S3 knowing that it supports sims from domestic GSM carriers. Everything works as it should except I get no 3G/4G even after adding a T-Mobile APN in the settings menu. Can anybody help? I am only getting edge data. The apn im using is epc.tmobile.com. Thank You.

Last I remember reading, you could only get edge speeds on T-Mobile with a Verizon Galaxy S3. No 3G or 4G speeds.

Sometimes that's true, mainly because t-mobile 3g 4g relied on an unconventional band to work. However Cleveland (where I live) has been refarmed meaning all unlocked phones can use t-mobile 3g/4g. This seems to be a problem specific to my device.

I'm pretty sure as long as you are on at least 4.1.2 you can just pop in a SIM card and it will work that thread is really old. I am on 4.4.2 and can get edge data by adding in the T-Mobile apn with Samsung's stock apn manager. A little off topic anyone who is curious about t mobile speed my wife got a s5 through t mobile and she gets 50 mbps. I use to get that on Verizon but it has dropped down to around 20 as of late. Can't wait to get my g3 and have decent 4g speeds again. Oh I suppose I should state I live in the Minneapolis area.

So it's just edge you're getting? Mind if I ask the city where you live? T-mobile has been revamping its network in some places.

Your NEVER going to get it. 3g/4g only edge. And its because Verizon locks down the domestic aws for those us bands on its i535v. And it comes unlocked. So not sure what you mean there. I have mine on straightalk att side. But only get E. And I've tried everything but hanging upside down with tinfoil 3 matches on old sheet and singing amazing grace at midnight with a full moon. No 3g/4g. And oh. BTW. I could throw a rock from my yard and LITERALLY hit an att high speed tower. Sorry..
