How to backup and restore whatsapp on same phone - General Questions and Answers

Hello friends,
We all know about verification process/step of whatsapp, whenever we install whatsapp on our phone we have to enter our phone number and activate it. It does not matter if we reinstall whatsapp on same phone or on another phone, we all have to enter sms code or call to activate/verify it.
My question is that, is it possible to save activation data/file/setting of whatsapp so that I do not have to reactivate it after I re-install it in *SAME PHONE*.
If its possible, please tell me how to do it?
I have already rooted my samsung s6edge phone.
Regards

After titanium back up and restore, will it ask for verification again or it will save the verification data too? Have you tried it before? please let me know if you have tried it.
Thank you for replying.

You don't need to verify anything. Just restore the app & settings with titanium backup. The whatsapp folder must be in the same place.

I only want to confirm because, every time I update or remove whatsapp, I have to get sms to activate and enter into whatsapp, so by using titanium backup whatsapp will not ask me for 'send sms' or 'call me', right?

[Q] Restoring Text Messages, am I missing something?

So i've been using Nandroid Browser app to save my text message files from my Cwm backups, mmssms.db and telephony.db and then pushing them to the com.android.providers.telephony/database directory in /data using ES file explorer so i can read them, but when i go to some my contacts, i don't see any texts, even after restarting the phone. Are there any other files i need to be copying and pushing?
In com.android.providers.telephony/database directory, there are 4 files
mmssms.db
nwk_info.db
telephony.db
tether_dun.db
Thanks

Just use Mybackuproot from the market. It allows you to ackup sms and mms and then restore them back to the message list...
I discovered SMS Backup & Restore - Apps on Android Market http://bit.ly/ACQlqR recently, and it works perfect. It doesn't restore picture messages, but everything else.
If your backup has several thousand messages (I had around 5000), and you restore, after the restore your messaging app "appears" to be crashed and only shows a black screen. You just have to let it sit open in that state for the messaging app to index all the messages.

Yes there are two ways that I can think of.
The first way is to make a nand of cm9. Nand back to what you want to restore from. Use one of the many SMS/MMS backup and restore apps. Then nand back to CM9 and restore using the app. That is the hard way.
Easy way involves TB if you use it.

I said "if you use it" because of some features it has that will do exactly what you are asking. You don't need to have any backup of your apps from TB at all. All you need is the program and a recent nand.
Titanium has a restore from nanoid option also.

Way to try though man. It's actually phone/messaging storage. Yeah I know they made that one tricky. lol I restore just the data and it works for me. That extract from nand feature in TB is so useful. Ever get a market update and the new version sucks. Just pull the old version from a nand.

First off, your spamming, its good that they put a 5 minute limit on you. This isn't Twitter or Facebook.
You're posting non-sense. If you are stuck in a problem, such as the system not acting properly, flash back to stock using Heimdall.
If its a physical problem (power button not working, etc.) then you need to get that fix, not spam in XDA.
Are you sure you have the right forums?

[Q] How can I backup (and restore) my personal dictionary?

Hi everyone,
I have been wondering if there's a way to backup my personal dictionary from the stock Android keyboard which I always have to populate every time I flash a new ROM or an update that needs a full wipe. (Android doesn't have a Filipino dictionary yet.)
I'm thinking maybe one of you guys know if there's a file I can pull from the system folders of the ROM using root explorer, and then restore later on whenever I clean flash a new ROM in order to preserve my personal dictionary.
I've tried backing up the keyboard app before, then restoring app data only using titanium backup, but that didn't work.
Hope you guys know how a work-around for this. Thanks in advanced!

Haven't really been able to test it yet since I haven't changed ROMs yet. Maybe when AOSP JB ROMs start popping up, I might try other ROMs, but for now, I'll stay with what I have.

The list under the "Backup/Restore" tab in Titanium Backup shows an entry "User Dictionary" as a system app, if this is what's being referred to. I reckon if you backup everything, it should be listed there.
I use GO backup
It does the dictionary too and also has the easy UI i.e very easily understandable as compared to others
Is there some solution??

[Q] Is it possible to add apps to GApps?

I've been changing ROMs a lot lately to just try them out and everything and it's been a pain having to install Titanium Backup everytime then install all the other apps manually. Is it possible to add them to Titanium Backup so that I can just install them when flashing then get right to work restoring backups when the phone boots and I'm done with first time setup?

Its easy:
Make a nandroid backup via CWM or TWRP. When you have installed the new rom just install Titanium Backup und select "Extract from nandroid backup". All apps included in the backup will be shown up and you can select all apps you need and install them with one click.

According to WhatsApp FAQ - How do I save my chat history?
Here is some technical information about your backup
1. Backup files are saved in the ‘ wa’ folder and are called MsgStore.bak .
2. Backup files are saved to both your phone’s internal memory and SD card, but only given that there’s
enough space .
Since you referred to Google Drive, I assume you have an Android phone. The FAQ for Android is at
WhatsApp FAQ - How do I save my chat history? and it states:
Your WhatsApp chats are automatically backed up and saved daily on your phone's memory. Depending on your settings, you can also periodically backup your WhatsApp chats to your Google Drive .
The iPhone app saves the backups to iCloud, of course, but I could not find the file for my backup. Perhaps it is a hidden file. The file is only readable by WhatsApp. If you want to export your chats to a text file, you can email them to yourself. In that case, use the Email chat feature
Sent from my SM-G7102 using Tapatalk
The Whatsapp folder is hidden, so don't expect to actually see it on Google Drive. But it's there. The thing, at least for me, is that the version of WA i get from Google Play doesn't have the Drive feature, so I have to download it directly from their website AND disable automatic updates (as of now, version number is higher on Play than on the website).
If you install a Drive-enabled version of WA, it will restore your Drive backup. Unfortunately, I don't know whether this feature disparity is universal or not.
So how to do it please tell me
try in whatsapp choosing Settings and then tapping on Chats and calls . This will definatly work..
you need to use the same phone number and Google account used to create the back up. Then, follow these steps to restore your backup:
1. Make sure the same Google account that was used to perform the backup has been added to your phone.
2. Uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp.
3. After verifying your number, you will be prompted to restore your messages and media from Google Drive.
4. After the restoration process is complete, tap on Next and your chats will be displayed once initialization is complete.
5. After restoring your chats, WhatsApp will begin restoring your media files.

Have you tried formatting a USB drive and backing up your data (important files - Pics, SMS, etc.) to a USB drive including an apps list? If you can use Titanium Backup with this ROM you can skip the apps list and restore your apps with Titanium Backup. Then when you finish flashing a ROM you just copy your files back to your phone from the USB with a 'root capable' file explorer.
It will not back up your boot image, system image or Vendor image, but if a reset is required you won't lose all your important data.

Gonna have to go back to Android 9 until or if they even get TWRP working on 10 for the Pixels. This is probably one of the biggest reasons I'm still on 9.
Titanium is still fairly unreliable as well as I still come into contact with certain apps that refuse to work after restoring them with titanium (Waze is one such app)
I am using Swift Backup and it works flawlessly. It saves things on the cloud (if you want or also locally) and then you can restore on any phone. I actually like it better than Titanium, which I have used since the days of my Note 3.

Came across your post by chance while searching to understand why TWRP failed to restore the images made of LineageOS 17.1 (Android 10) on my Wileyfox. Huge time waste, as is Titanium at present, with this Android version.
I am still using TiBu daily and occasionally sync TiBu to Google drive. Swift Backup looks like a good alternative.
