[Q] Is it possible to add apps to GApps? - General Questions and Answers

I've been changing ROMs a lot lately to just try them out and everything and it's been a pain having to install Titanium Backup everytime then install all the other apps manually. Is it possible to add them to Titanium Backup so that I can just install them when flashing then get right to work restoring backups when the phone boots and I'm done with first time setup?

Its easy:
Make a nandroid backup via CWM or TWRP. When you have installed the new rom just install Titanium Backup und select "Extract from nandroid backup". All apps included in the backup will be shown up and you can select all apps you need and install them with one click.

Does this require the paid version of Titanium Backup?

I have the paid version. It's really worth the 5 bucks. I'll check out a free solution

Here is a free solution: Nandroid Manager.

I guess I'll just break down and buy the paid version. Syncing to the cloud would be helpful too.

[Q] Whats the easiest way to back up you phone?

I have read countless time about using nanroid to backup your phone how ever i feel that titanium is more user friendly. Are there any advantages from using nandroid then titanium or are they pretty much the same thing.
I prefer Clockworkmod!
Well the Easiest way is the Most obvious way.
Via Recovery (Preferably with 4Ext touch recovery) press Backup, press the Tick Box and then wait for it to finish

By the way, I think you're confused.
Titanium is to Back up Apps & Data /System apps & Data
A Nandroid Backup (However you do it) takes a backup of every thing that is on your phone at the moment you do it, it stores an 'image' of everything, which you can restore to.
You can also use the clockwork mod its east to use
titanium back up
thnakss todoa
Titanium Backup
NANDroid w/ 4EXT Recovery!

Nandroid in Clockwork via Rom Manager is my preferred method, as you can actually name the backup making it ten times easier to tell what backup goes to what Rom. Full restoration, rather than just data like Titanium, and it doesn't cost $7.

help with first flash

Hello, I recently rooted my Samsung galaxy s captivate and have been reading up on the flashing of custom roms ( planning on getting serendipity 9). Any ways, I was just wondering, when I back up my current rom, after installing the new one, is there any way to restore the content without restoring the whole rom?

When you talk about your APPS....please use titanium backup...it always works.
Yes, Titanium backup is great. Although one downside is that you need to root your phone before you can make a full backup. So you would first have to root the stock ROM, make a titanium backup, then flash a new ROM, then restore the backup.
Mybackup root is good for SMS and call log.

Im already rooted and I have the titanium backup free version. I don't see anywhere that I can make a full backup just individual apps and info ( sorry for being duh an android noob, I'm used to jailbreaking iPhones which is child's play)
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe u need the paid version to back up batches. Free is individual apps but I may be wrong

You can batch backup in free version but u need the paid version to batch restore. Free version only allows u to restore one app at a time.

On titanium backup, select backup/restore, after a short delay, top right look for an icon that looks like a sheet of paper, with a tick , select it, the next page look to see where it says backup all user apps n data, think it seems second or third option in the backup section.

Those are saved onto the SD card, no need to backup those (unless you really want to). Wiping the phone before a flash does not wipe the SD card.

Download Super Backup (contacts, sms, call logs ) and App Backup & Restore from Play Store free. These two apps work even though you are UNROOTED.

[Q] Full backup: which method is the most complete?

hi!
I'm owning a HTC One S since a few days, rooted, and I'm wondering about the best way to back up my device.
Actually I'd like to know what is the most powerful (i.e. more complete) backup app/method: Titanium/Go Backup (or similar), nandroid, or this one: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/ultimate-backup-tool-no-root-required/ ?
If I wipe my cell, which method will allow me to restore it with same apps installed, same icons at the same place, same data and settings for each app (just like a Norton Ghost/Acronis TrueImage)? I think it's the nandroid backup, but I'm not an expert...
2nd question : if I loose this phone and I buy a new one (exact same), will I be able to restore my backup in the new one? Would it work?
3rd question : what about a non-rooted device (thinking to my wife's One V)? can I do a "Ghost" of her phone BEFORE I unlocked her phone's bootloader?
THANK YOU
kinda feel alone here...
anyway, I read more and here is what I understood: nandroid will backup everything like a Ghost, including the ROM. Titanium Backup will backup my apps and data, but not the widgets and homescreen, and Go Backup will backup apps/data/widgets/homescreen.
By saying "apps and data" does it mean "app settings" ?

Don't know about go, but you are correct on everything else. App data is settings saved stuff etc, it's everything about that app. If you restore an app with data it will be exactly as it was when the backup was made.
You do need root to backup using titanium, but I think there are ways to back up some stuff, using other methods, but I don't know them.

Most people seem to gravitate to titanium. I use the app manager in ROM toolbox pro.
OK, question two, yes. Backup the folder from your sd card to a PC. If you get a new phone just copy it to the new phones sd card install titanium (or whatever you used) and restore.
As for three I think you need to be unlocked to install a custom recovery so I don't think so.
Edit: nandroids (what you refer to as a ghost) are done through a custom recovery.

Can anyone confirm Titanium Backup will not restore my "icons"/widgets/homescreens?

You can, just need to find the system setting for the launcher and backup the data. As long as your new rom uses that same launcher. For example cm uses trebuchet. Apex and Nova are two popular third party ones. Widgets aren't saved though, everything else is.
If you're not using a launcher like apex or Nova I highly recommend you try it. I can't imagine going back to the stock launcher. Plus you don't have to worry about what launcher the rom uses, just back up your third party one like any other app and install on your new rom. Then hit home, set it as default, simple.

Launcher settings after loading new ROM

Before I flash a new ROM I always make a nandroid and always back up my apps with Titanium BU. Of course, once I flash the new ROM, all my launcher settings are lost. How can I keep the launcher settinigs and load them back in after the ROM flash so that I don;t have to personalize my launcher all over again each time? I mainly use Apex Launcher Pro.
I use a different launcher but I always make sure to restore everything first then restore the data on my launcher app then reboot and its always come back after I flash a new rom... not sure if it will help but don't see why not?

What launcher do you use and where and in what file are the settings stored?
I back up my launcher with titanium backup every time before I wipe and flash ... I use next launcher 3D ... im assuming you have TiBu just backup your launcher app then restore data only after installing new rom then reboot and it shoot work
---------- Post added at 10:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:01 AM ----------
If you don't have TiBu I "believe" there is an option in nandroid manager that lets you restore your home screen from a previous nandriod backup try that as well ... I have never used this do to TiBu always working for me but worth a shot im sure one or both will work

How to backup and restore whatsapp on same phone

Hello friends,
We all know about verification process/step of whatsapp, whenever we install whatsapp on our phone we have to enter our phone number and activate it. It does not matter if we reinstall whatsapp on same phone or on another phone, we all have to enter sms code or call to activate/verify it.
My question is that, is it possible to save activation data/file/setting of whatsapp so that I do not have to reactivate it after I re-install it in *SAME PHONE*.
If its possible, please tell me how to do it?
I have already rooted my samsung s6edge phone.
Regards

After titanium back up and restore, will it ask for verification again or it will save the verification data too? Have you tried it before? please let me know if you have tried it.
Thank you for replying.

You don't need to verify anything. Just restore the app & settings with titanium backup. The whatsapp folder must be in the same place.

I only want to confirm because, every time I update or remove whatsapp, I have to get sms to activate and enter into whatsapp, so by using titanium backup whatsapp will not ask me for 'send sms' or 'call me', right?
