Wifi connection to home network: - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note5

This issue started yesterday and can't seem to fix. My Note-5 will not connect to my home network despite having the correct credentials; I've rebooted the phone, home router, chose "forget network" to start fresh............will not accept the password................I've wiped cache, just don't want to do a hard/factory reset. Has anyone experienced similar? My son's Galaxy S4 did this awhile back and eventually did a hard reset to fix; although his wouldn't even turn on wifi. All other devices in the house connects to the network with no issues, phone will connect to other networks, just not the home one.

Try not using a password just to see if it can connect or not that way you can eliminate the password problem and narrow the problem down to your router or your phone also are you on stock or custom ROM give us a little more info on your phone setup

Change your SSID of the router (the name of wifi) and see if you can connect to it then. Unless your using the default name that came with the router which you will probably need to know how to change if so. If you do know how thts what i would try first, and if is worth it to leave it changed, otherwise change back and focus on phone as issue. If you do not know how to change ssid you can try these steps from a computer or laptop or anything with a browser that is connected to the router, go to 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 as they are most common and should have login screen which could be admin as user and admin as password. Or admin and netgear or different dependant on the router. If you got from internet provider should be a sticker on bottom or side showing router GUI address and username and password. If not, Google yhe model you have. If it doesnt work and you have not changed it from default reset the router by holding small reset hole for 30 seconds and it should work after. If other things can connct to the router but phone can not its a phone thing unless someone got in router settings or a pc firewall or antivirus denying that specific ip of the phone or mac address. Eset tries to block devices on my network all the time.

By not accepting the password you could verify that the keyboad on the phone is set to US and is what it should be. You could also try WPS if the router has, which should be a small button on the router that looks like a recycling symbol or arrows in a circle. On the phone settings under wifi and choosing more it will show wps push button, click it and it will listen for any routers that have had the wps button pushed and will automatically connect without needing a password
---------- Post added at 08:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:30 PM ----------
Also if you were successful in using the wps feature take into consideration security issues it offers, in that anybody who is listening for a wps router that is broadcast can automatically connect if they are searching for wps routers, not a huge issue as it is a certain set time frame the connection has to be made but if you live in that crazy world where people devote time to sitting and waiting for those to push that button they will connect to your wifi

stock rom, rooted

Other suggestions...
- manually change/experiment with setting a different channel in wireless settings
A nearby router or other device operating on or near the channel yours is on, it could cause problems.
- like previously mentioned, factory reset, try with NO password
- if a dualband router, try both bands
- update router firmware

So you can connect your phone to a wireless connection, it just doesn't download anything? In that case, have you checked the same wireless connection with another device?

Yes and Yes....im seriously stumped !
the only thing i can think is that theres some sort of wifi radio issue on my phone , but id have thought that would manifest by not connecting to the network rather than not pulling in data .
ive factory reset phone a couple of times and reset my router, no issues on other devices
think ill go back to the store for exchange as im not really prepared and shouldnt have to piss around with a brand new device
its a weird one
Have you tried changing the channel of your router? Try a lower number, like 11. Or temporarily removing any encryption and/or changing encryption type?
Did u try resetting your router? I had the same problem last night. Taught it was my phone. Ended up being my router. Go figure ;-p

Tried that....now at work and connects fine to the network, deffo must be an issue with my home network
Problem for me is that networks and the like aren't really my bag , ive had a look at the admin page on the router and can see its connected and theres nothing immediatly obvious that i could say "that looks suspect"
so im not sure what the answer is
all my other devices mac, pc ipod/phone and previous htc work well and have never had an issue
getting on my tits a little
ill have another fiddle later and see what i can do
cheers for the comments tho
otherwise, i do like the form factor of the phone and ill even give sense a good go befor i probably switch over to ADW or maybe launcherpro
Solved!
Set up static IP address on phone ..... Worked like a charm
I find the same, except I think it has to do with encryption. I have tried with wep and wpa and I get an IP address but cannot browse. On unsecured it works just fine.
Like you found a static IP works, but I think it is the static DNS that is actually the issue here.
This is a cumbersome workaround if you use wifi all over the place, so I downloaded Static Wifi which says it will store settings per connection.
The only issue with this is that I think the device has to be rooted for this to work
Have you tried using the opendns settings
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
wifi reconnect
Hi all
Perhaps we all have the same issue
I have the HTC Sensation with almost 2 weeks now and i am having one continuous issue.
I have wifi set up at home the phone connects ok,however i also have a TV/Video sender, when i need to use the TV/Video sender i have to turn off the wifi(not ideal). The problem occurs when i turn off the TV/Video sender and turn the wifi back on,the phone will connect with the modem but not to the internet,Facebook,Twitter, emails will not sync, while testing i have discovered that if i "kill" facebook and Twitter and restart the apps all is ok again i.e facebook,Twitter and emails all sync.
Does anybody have an idea what is causing this ?
Rgds

I seem to have managed to resolve this by setting the security to wpa2 and i also altered the dhcp scope to force a new range of ip addtrsses higher up. Since I did that I've had no problems.

One XL Telstra. WiFi Issues after Jelly Bean update

I installed Jelly Bean update with Sense 4+ on Christmas eve. Since then my WiFi connects but when I got to use data, say email internet or even some apps it says no data connection. The WiFi symbol is active in status bar showing full bars.
I'm hoping someone has some ideas as I'm having no luck. Thanks
I've still been working at this. I've logged into my modem/ router and it recognise my phone on a wireless connection.
I've deleted and reconnected my connection on the phone. Re booted phone and modem several times.
I've yet to try my phone on another network. But my laptop connects to WiFi ok and phone was working fine untill the update.

Sounds identical to this guy:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070160
Maybe you guys can continue within 1 thread?
Once again sounds like a DNS problem.
Try to prove that your handset has correct DNS settings. Also try to find something you 2 have in common with your setup. Is it the same ISP, same modem, same whatever?
Maybe ring Telstra and ask them?

I found that I had the same issue and downloaded WiFi Manager and changed my DNS/Gateway settings. This fixed the problem. I'm not too sure what may have caused the problem initially but I do know my router uses 192.168.1.254 as its address. This could have something to do with it however this is just a theory.

I changed my gateway settings, which had defaulted to something completely wrong, and can confirm it fixed accessing the net for me to, thanks!
I just downloaded WiFi manager (I'm having the same problem). Any idea what I do from here? I'm using a Netgear router, and I can still connect to the modem settings on 192.168.0.1 but that's all.

I didn't find wifi manager to be any help with the problem specifically. But changing the gateway worked for me.
Settings > Wifi > Long Press on network > Modify > Show advanced options > IP Settings > Static >
Then I scrolled to Gateway, where I removed the existing numbers and entered the IP address of my modem (not router, unless its an modem/router combo).
Leaving all other settings as they were, this worked fine for me. I don't know if you may also need to change DNS 1, or if you will have to configure a static IP on your router, but I didn't. Hope that helps

I just went all out and changed all settings, including setting a static IP. After dealing with Tech Support, "factory reset your device to isolate issue" I just wanted to attack every possibility. It seems from previous posts this may just be a Gateway issue. I should have known to long-press on the network to access advanced options. Amateur error.

Authentication Error Occurred connecting to WIFI

This is a warning for Samsung devices! If you continue to get this error while trying to connect to your Wifi router, and it appears to not even attempt to actually connect to the router each time there is a simple solution. The error that will show is "Authentication Error Occurred" You can get closer to your router but it will not fix the problem, unless you actually have a different problem. This week I have had this occur on my Galaxy S Vibrant (Rooted with SlimBean ROM) and my Galaxy Note 10.1 (Stock latest version).
Solution to the problem (problem may be with installation of non-default launchers(For me it was Kid Mode a game for my kid))
Step 1 -- Intentionally put in the wrong password to access the router..
..it will of course fail...
Step 2 -- Put in the correct password. :fingers-crossed:
It will reconnect like new.:highfive:
This is what worked for me, and if you have the same problem (really no matter the Samsung device) it should work for you.
For whatever reason putting in the wrong password makes the device actually attempt to connect again. I had tried everything from placing the device on the router, resetting the router, restarting the devices, removing apps, factory resetting one device( which worked after two resets on the non-stock Vibrant), forgetting the network, turning off sleep mode in advanced wifi settings, adjusting all sorts of other settings.
Thought I would share my solution and I hope it helps more than just the Note 10.1 community if this occurs to others, which my google search results showed me it does and on many Samsung devices...which makes me sad, because I love my Samsungs.
Funny you should mention this.
I had the exact same error this morning on my 8020! I just reset the router and all good.

That is what my sister does on her S3 (resets router), but for some reason this works if you cannot reset the router... (its in use by others). Next time you have this problem (if you do again), let me know if this works for you?
Also I was thinking an app that I installed caused this problem, do you think you have anything on your 8020 that would cause this? (such as a childs game that blocks certain actions from occuring, or a firewall app)
You could also "Forget" the network then rescan... I've done this before too...

are these the best solutions found? because i am having this problem, and none of these solutions have helped. and i know it isn't some program causing it, because I have wiped my i900 clean four or five times, and get it upon setup, before anything is even loaded on it yet, except the rom. so if anyone has anything else, please chime in.
I have this problem too and it's the craziest solution, but all I have to do is open up my laptop and open up a Web browser then magically my note 10.1 or my gs3 connects right back up.. So I don't know if it's some kind of interference or what? Rebooting my router also works. I haven't tried entering wrong password though but I will for sure try it next time since it means I won't have to pull out another device.

This issue is driving me insane! It did happen before and I've tried the password solution...it didn't work.
This happens every so often and it is quite annoying.
Has anyone found any fixes for this yet aside from the reset router or password solution?
was having same issue on my note2, both stock and roms, here is what I did and finally fixed it. Had to adjust the wireless settings on my router (dlink 645):
802.11 set mixed 802.11n and 802.11g
do not check "enable auto channel scan"
wireless channel: I set to 2.462 ch11
channel width: 20/40Mhz auto
security: wpa-personal
wpa mode: wpa2 only
cipher: tkip
hopefully this helps.

Here's my problem: (I get authentication error when trying to connect to wifi)
My Nexus 7 tablet and my friends laptop connect just fine but my Samsung Galaxy S3 won't connect
The SSID comes up and it says excellent or very good signal strength (in same room as router)
Previously, I had an S2 and it connected with no problem
Tried changing frequency band: 2.4 only, 5 only and auto (none work)
I can't play around with the router - it isn't mine and works fine for other devices.
My S3 works fine on my home wifi and several other places I have gone
Any ideas? Thanks
Assigning a static reserved IP for the device might help

First thing I always try is pulling the power cord for at least 30 seconds, reboot the router, and it usually works.

Thanks for suggestions. I'll try rebooting first, of course but I am not at my friend's house at the moment.
I don't know anything about assigning an IP address. If that has to be done to the router, I can't touch it.

[Solved] Router Reset Signal
My Samsung Galaxy 4 and my husbands Samsung Reverb were both throwing Authentication Errors every time we tried to connect using the wps pin, the wps button or the passcode. Nothing was working, to include trying incorrect password followed by correct password.
Hubby called Comcast and had a reset signal sent to the box. After the reset code was sent and the box cycled off and then on, Comcast verified the ip address once again and we pushed the WPS button for a fresh try.
WPS claimed to have failed on both phones but promptly connected. Problem appears to be solved for now so I don't care if the phones tell me that they're sucking toes! As long as they connect
I'll update if any further issues arise but for now I suggest calling your wifi provider and requesting that they flash the box (send a reset signal).
Good Luck!

Had a harrrowing experience solving this.
Was trying to connect wifi to note3 but it was seemingly stubborn in giving authentication error.
Had tried resetting the device, even changed router settings and yet it does not budge.
At last it dawned on me to stumble on access control list. In router settings there is option for setting access control for the devices used. Once the devices are added and the access control is turned on, it does not allow any other device to connect even if the credentials are correct.
So, once I have unchecked the access control list in router settings, it connected instantly.
I must have realized the same. Being oblivious of this fact costed a day.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
connecting to wi fi with tablet
We had a tablet that previously logged onto our Wifi but after taking it to school and returning home it wouldn't reconnect at home and asked for the password. I think we may have put the wrong password in too many times then even when we use the correct one it wouldn't connect. On the advice of our data provider we changed the name of our Wi Fi router in its set up and suddenly we could connect again when entering the password correctly. Worth a go if you have put the wrong password in too many times or your tablet just won't reconnect or even forget the connection.
I got this prob with Note 10.1 today and then after connection, dropping wifi and reconnect every 10 mins or so.

802.1x EAP issues

My school(Umass Amherst) uses 802.1x EAP protocol, and I'm having issues connecting to the network. First off I had no issues connecting to the network with my htc one and cm 10.1. The oddest thing is when I first booted my Nexus 5 it connected to the network WITHOUT me even entering in my username and password. However, after unlocking the bootloader which reset my phone I cannot connect to the network. I've tried using the school's step by step method which uses an app called xpressconnect. No luck. If anyone has any insight, it would be much appreciated.

Hey, at the college where I work, we also use 802.11x for authentication and I haven't had an issue with my N5. We also use XpressConnect as the wifi wizard but I just manually set up my connections. I have tried our staff and student wireless networks without issue. The settings are the same but we adjust access based on where your college id is located in AD. I haven't come in contact with another N5 yet.
One thing I do when I can't get student devices to connect to our wifi, is I reset their password to their default password, even if it already is the default password. No clue what it does but devices connect right away-you might want to try going to your school's help desk / IT department and ask them to reset your password or do it through the college's website if thats available. Sometimes, just a password change enables devices to get on the network.
Hope it helps...

Can you connect to any other wifi network?
If yes, then there is a problem with your home wifi router.
If no, then there is a problem with your phone.
EDIT: After a bit of searching, i came up with this,
Your wireless network may need to have your devices mac address before it can recognize and grant wifi access to that device. It turns out you need to add the mac address to your router so that it can let the device associated with the mac address connect to the network. If you don't know how to do this, or can't find another solution, call your network provider for assistance. They should be able to help you out. I cannot tell you how to fix your problem because I don't know (and don't want to know lol) your router address / IP address and password.
