What about versions of Mi4? - Xiaomi Mi 4

Hello. Whats up with versions of mi4? There's Mi4 with 2/3gb ram and Mi4c and S version. Which is official version from development thread? I don't wanna brick my next phone

Mi4c, Mi4s, Mi4i are completely different phones, not the same as the original Mi4 (their CPUs are not even 32 bit like the one in Mi4), so you can't use ROMs for these phones. ROMs for Mi4c/s/i are in separate forums, not here.
There are 3 subversions of the original Mi4 - 3G version (described as "Mi4 W" in settings), "Mi4 LTE-CU" and "Mi4 LTE-CT". The amount of RAM doesn't matter. If you have Mi4 3G or LTE-CU variant then you can use almost any ROM for Mi4 or Mi3 (that's right Mi3 is actually a weaker version of Mi4, which is compatible). The only version that doesn't work with other ROMs is Mi4-LTE-CT (a specific LTE version). But in any case you should carefully read the requirements and instructions for each ROM.

Thanks. I changed my mind and i'll buy an Redmi 3 Pro. 3/32GB LTE version should be fine with xda roms? Thank you
Edit: i mean there's only Redmi 3 on xda. The processor is same as used in Redmi 3. The only difference is more ram.

[Q] What ROM for a Hongmi 1S clone with an MK6582?

I bought a couple of (what I thought were) Xiaomi Hongmi 1S phones. They work OK, but apparently they are fakes. They are based on an MTK6582 instead of a Snapdragon chip. The problem with them is that when I want to root them, I kept getting error messages (missing scatter). Now I realize that this may be because they are not what I was assuming they were.
Right now they are running MIUI.
If I wanted to flash a different ROM, how would I pick the right one? If I go to needrom, it asks for the manufacturer's name, and I am not sure who the manufacturer is.

Question: Is Mi4 still worth it?

Hi Guys, I'm wondering if Mi4 is still worth it to get today. I have the chance on also getting the Mi4C instead. So I would like to know your experience with it and if you have had the chance to try and compare it to the Mi4C, what would you recommend me to go for.
Mi4 or Mi4C
I wonder if is it a deal breaker to get the Mi4c over the Mi4, taking in count both cameras and the processor. Considering also both with 3 gb ram, and software development such as custom roms and xiaomi official firmware.
Thanks

I did get the mi4 because:
- Better design (in my opinion)
- possibility to install w10
- more roms ( i think)
and in terms of performance and camera they are almost equal.
Mi4 should have better camera, F1.8 aperture size.
I am going to buy a new smartphone and the 2 alternatives are Mi4 3gb no LTE (my operator uses mainly 800mhz lte) and Redmi Note 3 Pro 3gb. Prices are $160 for Mi4 and $216 for Redmi. I don´t like phablet but the newer hardware of Redmi Note 3 Pro is also interesting... Any advice?
I'm not a pro, so my advice may be wrong, but I believe the Mi4 kernal is open so you can will get more longer term custom ROM support (eg Cyanogenmod) where as the Redmi might have better specs, but the kernel source may never be released and therefor you'll be restricted to whatever version of MIUI Xiaomi choose to releases on the device. I was faced with exactly the same choice and went with the Mi4. Infact I am about to install CM13 on it.

Ah, I was actually thinking of the Redmi Note 2 which hasn't got a kernel release if I'm not mistaken. I would go for the Note 3 in your case. Better specs, and bigger screen is a good thing too.
Not to bump a thread a few days old, but I'd say the Mi 4. I just bought one on sale for $145 or so with shipping. I was torn as well but the hardware is what appeals to me the most. I also like how you can install Windows Phone 10 on it, I might do that for a few days just to reminisce of my WP days.

Inquiries about the Mi Mix 2s.

Hello I am interested in buying the Mi MIx 2S 8GB 256 GB, but I have a few concerns.
1- i found this out on frequency check:
frequencycheck.com/carrier-compatibility/Y0VKtoe/xiaomi-mi-mix-2s-premium-edition-global-dual-sim-td-lte-256gb/etisalat-egypt
I would like to know if its true or not, that it wont support LTE band in my country ( although the band is listed in the Device description)
2-Do you have any idea when to expect a global rom ?
3-I am buying it from JD.com - Because AliExpress and Gearbest are very pricy. So i was also wondering if it would be easy to install Google services and use the phone normally and get rid of Xiaomi bloatware or some of it at least, until global rom is available.
4- Is it true that It should be easier to make custom roms and thus installing them for this device, wouldnt have to wipe phone every time i do so, or ??
5-What are Mi Mix 2S Daily MIUI Builds that i found here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-mix-2s/how-to/mi-mix-2s-daily-emui-builds-t3775064
is it worth it or waiting for an official global rom is a better alternative ?
Thank you.

1. Can't help you there sorry:/
2. As soon as they start to sell it officially in countries outside China, I don't think there's already a date for that
3. Yes, it's easy, you can read about it in the xiaomi Reddit wiki here. lots of information there for other topics too
4. I think it should be easy because of project treble. My current understanding is you only have to wipe the phone completely if you go from miui to a aosp or cm based custom rom or the other way around, if you flash for example resurrection remix and then want to flash omni rom you don't have to do a full wipe
5. I don't know about these daily builds but I will test them as soon as I get my 2s
You can (according to stuff I read in other forums) use the chinese rom without any issues if you install the playstore and so on described in 4. I will do the same

Resurrection remix is a popular custom Rom, that was just an example to tell you that you don't have to wipe everything when you go from one custom Rom to another, but a factory reset is, as always, recommended. Wiping the whole data partition is only necessary if you want to flash miui after a cm or aosp based custom Rom or flash a custom Rom when you are coming from miui.
It will arrive within the next 20-30days according to the shop it ordered it (tradingshenzen).

Okay I got it now.
I couldn't make the flash sale on JD.com :S
Is tradingShenzen trusted? Have you used it before, coz it seems to have a lower price than gearbest or aliexpress.

I never used it before but I checked on reddit and other forums and most of the people from germany buy on tradingshenzen because we get a 2 year warranty there. The price on gearbest will be lower in a few weeks for sure

You can try to use the code GBMBP on gearbest, on many phones you get some discount
Edit: Just checked it, seems like the code is expired
Frequencycheck has false info for Mi Mix 2S, claims it doesn't support any LTE bands.

Yeah, I am that lucky.
Even the flash sales on JD.com have ended, now all the prices are 4800 Yuan and up!
And Aliexpress price spiked to 860$
I can only buy the 256 8G version for it to work where I live!
I am screwed
Edit:They are back, The flash sale is BACK!

I asked their local distributor in Egypt ( Although they don't exude much confidence, but they said for our 4G networks that seems to be the case although the bands of our LTE are on the lower models as well.
I am still debating it any way.

I tried to google a little bit and this is my conclusion:
These and these are the Bands used in Egypt and here are the bands supported by the mi mix 2s. According to wikipedia GSM 900 and 1800 are Band 3 and 8 and both supported by the standard version of mi mix 2s.
For 3g you need UMTS 2100 which is B1 and also supported by standard 2s and for LTE you need LTE B1 which is supported too. I'm not 100% sure about it, maybe just create a question thread on Xiaomi reddit forum to double check

Yeah those are the answers I found, But here in Egypt everything tech wise is a bit vague and no official website can be really trusted, which is why I didn't wanna risk it from the beginning ,but the price will probably lead me to that eventually If the flash sale plan doesn't go through.

Ok, good luck
Seems like on the global version you get all the bands with the small versions too. https://forum.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-mix-2s/help/global-lte-model-t3770545 but it's not confirmed

China vs Global ROMS

Hello. Im planning to upgrade my phone to a 'gaming phone'. Which as follows:
Red Magic 6, Lenovo Legion Duel 2, Xiaomi mi 11 Pro, Asus ROG 5, Black shark 4 pro?
The main problem is with software updates. From what I can find online, about 3 of the 5 phones listed, have really bad support. Pretty sure some older models are still stuck on android 9 and 10 on the global versions. While on the CN version, they are regularly updated.
So I was wondering if I could use the CN ROM instead, if support for the global ROM dont exist. If anyone with experience could share the pros and cons or insights, it would greatly appreciated.
Sorry if I sound really noob, because when it comes to mods and stuff, I have no experience at all. I would have gone the easier route with samsung, but these phones have specs that I am interested in trying out. Just that it would suck if I missed out on future android updates, like android 12 or something.
Thanks yall.

I think global roms are better than China roms here's why
First reason why global roms has google apps pre-installed
While china roms only have google apps installed on older china roms devices the newer phones with china rom does not have google apps pre-installed u could try flashing a custom rom to get google Apps pre-installed but I don't know exactly if it's gonna work
Second reason why global rom Is better is the bugs
On china rom their more bugs than global rom
Third reason why it's better is how it feels global roms feels better than China roms because global rom feels faster than China rom

Poco C31 launched as an extended version of Poco C3

Poco has launched the new Poco C31 across the world with the same Mediatek Helio G35 processor as in Poco C3. What are your views on the device?
For a sub $100 device (if you buy on offers), it's a fine device. The only caveat is the MIUI that it comes with. There are no custom ROMs made for that I could find, and I tried running GSIs but that also failed. Xiaomi devices really suck software wise. I tied to make the MIUI experience, which I'm stuck with on this device, a little less painful in a debloating effort.
Here is a tool if anyone is interested - https://bb.chip.icu/d/56-an-android-debloater-tool-general-poco-c31miui-125
