Something is messing up our phones - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note5

Any solutions. I seen several people with unknown baseband and nothing works . The phone reboots after 20-30 sec odin back with older bootloader don't work . Flashing pit file don't work . Flashing modems don't work . Only thing i haven't tried was flashing a custom rom because the phone wont stay on long enough to transfer a rom over to the phone . I went back to my note 4 for now so either this phone will be a 800 paper weight or we will work as one to get to the bottom of these problems. I didn't do anything out the norm.

Try clearing the cache from recovery. It worked for me

I had this problem too. Could not find any solution of fix.

I tried clearing the cache already.

Odin to lollipop, marshmallow etc. did nothing for me. My device is basically destroyed. I'm thinking something wrecked efs, but I did nothing that would have ruined it.

I think i had same issue, i think it happened after upgrading to marshmallow and then rooting it resulting in no signal bars or data whatsoever and would reboot after a minute or so even if i turned airplane mode on. I flashed lollipop and back to mm and anything in between with same result. Took it to sprint as i had protection plan and since it wasnt physical damage requiring asurion it was treated as a software issue and replaced through the store as they couldn't fix it either. Sprint agent said some issues were going around with the marshmallow update. Samsung also has replacement program called express replacement program with a qualifying device (newer releases) they will ship a replacement to you and once you get it you send yours to them. They do require a authorization hold of like 400$ for the chance of it being a physical issue that caused the problem or basically anything not covered under the general 1 year warranty. I did this, and was a little worried with knox tripped. Authorization holds are 5-10 days and released back to the account if the requestor doesnt withdrawal the funds as a completed transaction. I didnt send my phone back until the day before the hold expired and still returned by cutoff date they created. Nothing waz ever said regarding knox, the small crack on the screen or anything else. A thank you for your business email is all i got.

Yeah mines going back today at the sprint store. Good thing i had insurance and kept my note 4 as a backup . I flashed over 1000 times and only ran into this issue once prior to this incident on my note 3 . I bought another phone to replace my note 3 then one weekend i decided to try and fix it and within a hour it was back and running. Not the case with this phone samsung really trying to discourage rooting with all this extra hoops we gotta go threw. I'm not as young anymore and don't have time to tinker with my phone like i use too. Wife and kids and a business leave me a very small window to have me time and i rather play the xbox one than trying to fix/flash/tinker with this phone. Besides the free tethering i think its a perfect device minus the sd,ir blaster

Sd, ir blaster, removable/replaceable battery, non-glass back, smaller, use app just once or always....the list is saddening if thought about. I think note 4 > note 5 all day. But as for whats corrupting some of our devices it would be nice to know what exactly is causing it for the sake of knowing as well as something to keep in the f it folder to repeat whenever you wanted to get a replacement due to software issues which according to sprints protection plan terms can be repaired in store vs say a broken screen having to go through asurion and paying deposit (11$ a month plus 200 deposit vs going to samsung.com requesting service for broke screen= no monthly charge and 20$ cheaper) I got a replacement directly from samsung via their express replacement and then it did this problem after update to mm and was set for replacement in sprint store. Knox was obviously tripped but they didnt say a thing and if they had I wouldve reminded them i still pay the plan as well as the knox warranty being Samsungs feature and not that of Sprints, i was sure to take it in with official firmware tho. Downside is i had white, they gave me gold and I want black or white so any leads on a possible cause i am all ears.

The thing that is ruining the phone is messing with ported roms..... I have not had one issue with the roms for our phone. Only the issues with people trying to flash the international port......

It looks like its going on with s6 as well... http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s6/help/constant-rebooting-t3287213
On 2nd page it appears as if someone found a workaround, something to do with letting phone die completely etc. And hasnt rebooted for 30 min.
The issue happened to me while going from official lollipop to official mm for sm-n920p. While i was on phone with sprint they sounded as if it was somewhat of a repeat issue saying alot of customers were having issues with the marshmallow update. That did give me an issue however flashing a different carrier rom has never resulted in anything more then not being able to use the data vs this issue never even beginning to start a connection at all.

Yea i got mine to work same problem rebooting read my post cuz im working and just will confuse people now but several odin flashes several factory resets with cache also then let sprint guy do it put up for a day it died plug it in and it workex.

Now ive had zero issues since then rooted but stock is fine now lol cant live with the bloatware lol. Mainly i thought the hole time it was because i restored a efs backup but before i had moar MM rom up and runninhg with the proper kernel ofcourse but had a wifi issue thats where i restored efs on accident i had moar mm rom before with no problems not my 1st time flashing it. I got insurance so yea i did a note 5 rom and it was best tom ive tried or used.

I got free factory refurbished one on the way now mine is fine but still gonna get it. im on the 920p with 11$ TEP. And I am preying it doesn't come up to date with unrootable security updates lol.

Well there replacing my battery on mine so i won't find out til wed if that helps or not fingers crossed but I'm kinda liking the note 4 again . I haven't used it in awhile but having this sd card and ir blaster sure feels nice. Idk about flashing other roms for the international note but there's always a risk when you do that , it could also be a issue as well if you flash enough times im not sure . The last thing i flashed was a modem someone posted saying it work on marshmallow and lolipop then i booted the phone and everything was ok. I flashed it because this is my second note 5 that's having really bad signal issuese to where i have 0 bars then full bars almost like its switching over and over and really slow internet speeds. I literally go to the porch and the phone signal is full bars. I visit my neighbors and in there house full f×CKING bars . Im starting to think its sprint towers since they deployed lte i had the best signal on my note 3 and nexus6 but my g3 and note 4 and note 5 are doing the same thing with signal and slow as dirt Internet speeds. I buffer on 360p videos on YouTube [emoji24]

This same problem just happened to my phone yesterday. I was able to fix it by following a similar procedure to the one rayraycarter4 posted here.
After using Odin to go back to MM stock I let the phone go completely dead, to the point where it would not power on at all when any button was held. I then waited about 5-10 minutes, plugged the phone in and booted it. As soon as the phone booted I had a signal and there were no more random reboots. I was even able to successfully restore a backup that I took AFTER the problem started happening. It seems to me that the problem doesn't exist in the Data or System partition as I restored both of them without any ill effects.

[Q] Hard Bricked? Sidekick 4g

Soo I have a big problem,
My sidekick 4g suddenly shut off and directly went into Download Bootloader. It would only stay in that window for about 3 seconds then restart. So I tried doing Odin but it would never stay in download mode long enough. After a while, the phone stopped turning on and now it does not even charge. I believe I have hard bricked the phone. When I leave it on the charger. I see no indication that it is charging but the battery gets warm. Is there any hope for me to fix this phone?
Please let me know ASAP. Thanks!

Does the device even show up as a USB vendor/product id? See that with `lsusb` on Linux or the Device Manager on Windows.
It might be worth trying ayoteddy's FOOL PROOF WAY TO GET INTO DOWNLOAD MODE here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186954
Perhaps if you trigger the phone to enter download mode that way, it won't just continually reboot...
Beyond that, I think you'll be looking at hardware-level fixes. If the phone isn't literally fried, it can almost certainly be repaired with JTAG. But that would involve a JTAG interface which I am guessing you don't already have.
You might be able to find someone who will JTAG for you for free, or for a fee. A local phone repair shop might have this capability.
If you're damn good with a soldering iron, or have a friend who is, there's also AdamOutler's "UnbrickableMod":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347984
That mod is not for the feint of heart, you need to take the phone almost entirely apart and do soldering work within the area of a grain of rice... but it is possible.
But all the options assume that the only problem with the device is a bad flash -- damaged boot loader, bad kernel/recovery, etc. The way you describe your phone's demise, a hardware failure certainly seems like a possibility.
Good luck, I hope your device is not dead.
FWIW, SK4G goes for ~$100-200 on eBay these days depending on condition. Locally you could probably find lower prices.
Wow thanks for all the info but i tried ayoteddy. Since the phone doesnt even power on , i cant do what teddy says. And no, after a few failed odins, the comp doesn't even see the phone. But that's also because the phone doesn't turn on. I even put a charged bat. Still no go

It really sounds like a hardware failure.
If you are committed to trying everything to rescue your particular device, you could double down and try a new battery. You risk wasting whatever money you spend on it, of course.
If I recall correctly, the SK4G can't operate properly without some battery current, even when plugged into USB. And the other symptoms seem to leave the door open on battery problems -- sudden power down, brief signs of life which eventually cease, hot battery. The sudden failure of a lithium battery would hardly be unusual.
I have seen an issue very similar to this before. It turned out to be a loose connection inside the phone. Might want to disassemble and reassemble carefully to ensure that the connections are secure. Youtube has dis-assembly videos to guide you. You don't have to completely disassemble the phone, just til you reach the main board and secure the connections to it. If you don't feel like you can hand the task of dis-assembly you could always search for a local phone repair business, or even computer repair shop (they often do some phone repairs). Hope this helps
Hey there, I am trying to fix a SK4G with the exact same problems... download mode will show up, but then the screen will go blank again. I'm gonna look into what blk2dr suggested... did you ever fix yours, OP?
root? so Warranty it, not saying its the most "ethical way"
out of curiosity what was the last, well as samsung would put it, hac...ERRRR unsupported warranty voiding modification known to us as upgrade/flash eg. via cwm odin rom app add on modem kernel etc. that was done to the ol SK? or is it just straight up faulty craftsmanship from samsung...nooooo on a SK4g??? is that possible? lol moving a rom around from folder to root of sd once (zip prev passed md5 check) my 2nd or was it 3rd t839 had a lil hiccup that i didnt realize at the time made my custom Roms zip like 47kb smaller then it previously was and should of been, when flashing is 2nd nature and ur just moving it within the same sd card its already checked out on the md5 sum and ur dealing with a 200+/-mb file, whos gonna notice that minor change? to make a really long story just kinda long, into voodoo cwm flash, let it marinate... phone ran great for 4 days, then i decided i was going to clear cache davlik fix permish and reboot...yea went into cwm wiped wiped and half way thru fix permish phone crashed rebooted back into recov, when i tried to reboot sys it had your same exact issue. DL mode for just a second...then all black yet slightly backlit screen. could never get it to stay long enuff to odin back to stock, fullproof DL mode was a no go and of course the battery died, wouldnt recharge. i played dumb went to tmo store dude tesed phone with new batt my batt in other sk etc etc...anyways he charged my battery up enuff it flared back into dl mode for a few sec...my fix? hours and days headin into weeks of jackin with this thing i went with my cure all root REUPwarranty fix...flash a bad freakin bootloader thru odin and kill it once ad for all, DL mode only needs to be on about 4 sec, not long enough to go back to stock rom but long enuff to kill that B. prefered bootloader is i9000 haha works like a champ everytime to every rooted phone that had issues i needed a warranty exchange on(only been 4) seeing how i get a new phone every 3months on avg and always pay full price the ratio is tiny. yeah i know the trickle down effect raising costs from manufacture in long run yadayada. all is true, but i figure ive been kicked in the groin so many times by samsung,lg,moto, htc etc they can eat 1 every now and then. as a tmo employee in 07/08 i paid 500 upfront for the mda that got back ordered for 6 months had 2 bad dead spots in the touch screen within a month and screen went completely white in 3mnths. some employee/warranty fine print screwed me out of a new phone. and dont even get me started on the sidekick. 399 bucks for a phone that basically got abandoned 3 months later cuz it was junk compared to what it should be and breaks in high quanities. theyll still tax u 20 bucks and make u keep ur old battery and cover charger etc so im not losin any sleep, for real kill it for good, run it to the store get ur new err rebuilt refurb SK4g in 2 days then save up for a t989 s2 dl gmote/spashtop and poweramp on ur SK4g and let her roll as a wireless keyboard/mousepad for ur pc and let the voodoo and Pamp rock as a killer mp3 player. thats all the T-urd-839 is really good for anyways, oh yea and a mediocre bt controller for playin games on my S2's lol do the warranty, its samsung/TMOs fault for lettin this junk product get released, abandoning it and overcharging so many of us. Just do it, do it lol
pull battery, connect usb, hold power, volume up, volume down, camera, and tackpad and insert battery. It should FORCE the phone into download mode.
try it lol~

Phone dead > no boot, no lights

I've posted this in the CM9 Alpha6 thread but didnt have any response so trying here since it may not be ROM related. I'm S-ON and have been running A6 for 5-6 weeks and besides the battery drain and random reboots it was ok. Two days ago I tried the WiFi tethering for the first time and it work well for a few hours. However, suddenly it rebooted 3 times in a loop and went dead after the last reboot. I tried all combinations of pressing buttons (power, hboot, recovery...) , replacing battery, charger and so on and it just doenst power up and doesnt show any ligths. Connected to the laptop it doenst see the phone since is not powered on. The battery doesn't look swollen or defective and it was fully charged when the phone went dead.
I went yesterday to the TMobile store and tried with a new battery and didnt do anything. Also tried different chargers and USB to laptop, nothing, no response.
Any ideas why the phone went dead? Is it definitely gone? Should i add it to the collection of paperweights?
Thanks a lot
Also, is there anyway to wipe the phone's data? TMobile told me i can get a replacement but im worried all my data is in the dead phone ill be sending back
In almost ALL circumstances if you can't get in, they can't either. At least until it's sent back and you already have your new phone. Then HTC doesn't really have the time OR inclination to do forensic system analysis of every phone and will just go about replacing its guts & sending it back out as a refurb.
It having been a commercial "semi-flop" I persoanlly believe they will be happy when they all die and we all shut the hell up about ICS & JB. LOL

I dont worry about TMo or HTC bringing ICS/JB for any of my devices, since that will mean again getting read of crapware, settings....personally i prefer any of the multiple ROMs and thats part of the Android beauty...
Now, since i got the replacement i have to worry about sending my old phone back and it ending up resold without being wiped....do you know any part of the phone where a screwdriver tip (or hammer) will ensure the phone memory is gone?
If you could get it to come back on even just to HBoot I could tell you how to fry it BUT it would just take it back to where it is right now but with the partition tables borked. I can understand your concerns but I honestly think you're worrying about something that won't happen. Even if they were to use the internal memory again (IF they could) they would do a partition repair & reformat before reinstalling the stock ROM. I would be concerned though about sending one back with physical damage. That COULD turn into a "GOTCHA". KWIM?
Judging by your description, I'd say your phone has a hardware problem. If no lights are coming on, and there's absolutely no response, it's either the motherboard or the display.
But nothing HTC can't handle. They should be able to fix it and send it back no problem. Very rarely will they send you a new phone. They always try to save the phone you send in.
For software, they can probably restore it using their factory special cable connection (forgot what it's called).
That being the case it would still be sent back out to someone else after the repairs. TMobile will send a replacement to a customer and the borked one is sent back to them in the same box the replacement came to you in. At least that's what's happened to everyone I know (including myself) that has gone thru TMobile instead of having to deal directly with HTC.
^^^^^^^^^^^^ +1 couldn't have said it better myself

I think you are right and there is some HW problem, I was wondering if it had to do with me having the WiFi tethering on since i just switched it on for the first time 3-4 before it went dead and the phone was hotter than usual. Maybe nothing to do but i thought it could be a possibility

Just as an update and to post my experience replacing the phone; since i had insurance, TMo sent me the a new phone ... in less than 24h !!!, seems if you report before 5pm you get the new phone in your hands the AM of the next business day, pretty good.
The phone came on a special package, with return labels, but without SIM, SD, battery or back cover, just the "carcass". Put the old phone sim and old battery in and i worked fine....then spent the next hour unlocking, recovery, flashing ROM and updating apps+data....done and my new phone is practically the same as the old was.
Now i have 7 days to return the old one in the same package or they will charge me $300....probably im paranoid about the data in the old phone, but after reading http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2012/08/apple-amazon-mat-honan-hacking/all/ i immediately went and added 2-step verification to my google account...
So in summary, very good replacing process from TMo (if you have insurance), and added extra security to my GAccount...for the rest, just crossing fingers that nothing bad happens in the future

Try another rom although it sounds like an app. Can't be the phone on that many of them. You only one reporting this problem so has to be something you are putting on phone.

both phones are doing this on stock. no apps installed
My friend had 8 replacements through verizon before he got a good one. So try a couple more times maybe. I know it is really inconvenient but honestly the GS3 is the best Android on Verizon right now (arguably atleast) and they probably won't let you trade up to a Razr HD Maxx which is the only one I would recommend.
I'm having the same problem apparently. I just bought this phone used and activated it monday night. That night, i plugged the phone into the charger while i slept and the phone shut off overnight. Phone wouldnt turn on with the power button - required a battery pull to restart.
Going through tuesday, the phone worked fine. However, in the evening, the phone was idle for a few hours, and when I went to check it before going to bed I found it had powered off again! Required another battery pull to restart...plugged it into the charger, and went to sleep. When I woke up, I again found (for the third time) that the phone had powered down, and required another battery pull to restart.
Going into wednesday, phone is working fine. Then I leave it idle in the afternoon for a few hours during work, and when I get ready to drive home, I find it is again powered down, requiring a battery pull to restart (fourth time in less than 2 days).
Now I go to visit verizon, and the rep tells me (after I think he was looking through some company forums for answers) that I should try clearing the cache from every app, since maybe the data was corrupted during my OTA update to JB (which i installed monday night), and some app was causing this problem. So I do that, and the same thing happens again overnight...battery pull etc...
I'm figuring next I'm going to do a factory data reset, possibly tonight. This is supposed to be my sister's christmas gift! Hah...trying to work the bugs out before tuesday. Any thoughts?
Starting a post with I'm not crazy sound like something a crazy person would say.... just saying.... But I agree with the earlier post that it could be app or rom based and only effecting the screen. These are the options I see you having:
1. Try freezing any apps you've installed one at a time and see if it stops
2. Make nandriod and try another rom and then come back if that doesnt fix it
3. Try this thread to clear everything and upgrade http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984436
-This method formats internal and external sd card AND bumps you up to rooted JB in the process. Use VRBLK3.
4. Get a replacement phone

These options might work for the OP, but only #4 could work for me since i'm not rooting this phone (its for my sister). If I find a fix for my issue, i'll post here.
Are you guys using an sd card? If so it might be a corrupt file that the system goes over and gets stuck on, messing the cell up. Did you try making a backup on pc, formating your card (fat32) and putting you stuff back on it? Or take the card out and see if you get the same problem without it. If you're going thru all the replacements then its gotta be something that you use in common with all of em. GL!

Wifi Problem - freezes sometimes and cant disable. Have to restart. LP & KK

Hi guys,
I have a problem that I've never seen or heard of before. So here is the situation:
Power button didn't work, so RMA'd phone. Got different phone back and instantly rooted/installed custom rom. Didn't notice anything until a month later. My phone would randomly just lag out and the wifi would stop. It would still show connected and that there was uploading activity, but that is all. When I clicked it to disable, nothing would happened. I would have to restart the phone, disable it for a while then re-enable it. I though it was the rom so I switched. Noticed the same thing is happening. I decided to play around with my sim, so I took it out and then put it back in, and it somehow fixed the problem. So I was assuming it was the sim causing the problem. Worked perfect for a week then started happening again. I did the thing with the sim and it didn't work this time. I still have the problem now.
Basically, my wifi would just stop working, when I click on it the phone lags out and freezes. I have to restart the phone and it will work. Sometimes Itll work for a full day then all of a sudden just stop. Sometimes it happens just a few minutes after restarting. I mostly find that it happens when the battery is less than 20%. Right now I am running stock LP, locked bootloader. I was supposed to send it in but they wouldn't accept it because I was 6 days over my warranty. So I'm not sure if I was send a faulty phone and now I'm stuck with it?
LG said I would be charged $150 flat rate for them to fix it which sucks. I'd rather just get a new phone and stay away from LG in the future.
Any suggestions? Also this was happening on KK at first then I tried LP Roms and same thing. I have never flashed any radio since I got the phone, could this be a possible solution?

You would get the same reply from pretty much any company, once it is over the warranty period then it is over the warranty period, this is no reason to "stay away from LG". Most charge a flat rate since they're likely to simply do a motherboard/whatever board swap if the fault is to do with internal components, as it is much easier/cheaper for them to do this compared to diagnosing and repairing/replacing things individually.

Try a different radio version. If it doesn't change anything then you have a hardware problem.

The only reason I said I would stay away is because it seems that I sent in my phone with a problem only to receive another one with a different problem. I'll try the radios tonight, hopefully it works.
Thanks, I'll keep you guys posted.

You mentioned that you only ran into issues after a month. During that month a hardware issue could have possibly developed and the device was fine when you initially received it.
Known LP bug.. Thats why i still stay with kk

S6 Freeze/bootloop out of the blue

So had this phone for a while now and no problems, been running nougat for the past few months, this morning took my phone off charge and placed in pocket. A bit later I checked my phone, it was not responsive a black screen, did a hard reset does the samsung logo then gets stuck either flashing blue or pink. So leave it until I get home, flash latest nougat with odin installs fine, reboots and does same thing freezes at boot samsung flashing blue. Flash it again and now its froze after its said erasing...
I think something has failed hardware wise, any others had this issue?.

Just install "CPU awake" from play store, this will help you keep the device working, this problem is very common in each & every Samsung flagship, starts after 2 year use(won't ever buy a Samsung flagship again), no fix for it, if you don't believe me, check Evey flagship forum q/a section.

That app is useless, in that case completly useless. That app just won't allow CPU's get to deep sleep. But in him case that looks like just next S6 who get hardware broken from unknown reasons

Really? I have a note 4 , exactly same problem, that app gave it new life & not just mine, many note 4 users are using it who are facing the same problem, so, next time instead of just posting nonsense, do some research.

He even cannot turn on the phone, maximum what he can see is SAMSUNG logo so what the **** you are talking about turning on some app on working system?

That's a nand problem, if the device is cooled (I hold mine in front of AC for 5min.), that will help it to turn on & once it's on, install the app & it will work fine but it shouldn't be allowed to shutdown or it has to be cooled down again, it's not a new problem, thousands of Samsung mobiles which ship with faulty nand face the exact same problem, I know it sounds silly, it is what it is & it works(for thousands users)

Never before heard bullshits like that. Can you give some link to any information which will confirm that what you told so that a CPU Awake app will fix broken Samsung device? Please about it.
P.S.
I could'nt find anything about it

Read it, on almost every page someone recommended using cpuwake, it's not my problem that you are such a fool who instead of trying to help someone with some advice, would just bash other people who have faced similar issues & maybe know the solution. You can go **** yourself for all I care.
Rishi is correct about cpu awake on the Note 4. It is commonly viewed as a means of extending the life of the Note 4 but eventually the phone will fail.

Unfortunatly not, sold the phone as faulty as don't want to throw money at it, will not be getting another s6 my worse samsung yet, meanwhile my note 3 is still working great and will do for now.
