Reset counter to 0x0 on knox? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note5

Im about to send my phone to warranty and not sure if they would take it non rooted factory stock tar. Anyone confirm?

Your question is little confusing. If the phone was rooted then Knox was tripped and there is no way to reset it. I assume you returned your phone back to stock using a stock tar file. If you are sending to sprint for warranty they most likely well not look if Knox is tripped (But you never know). Samsung warranty i'm pretty sure they will check.

Nope. Once you trip knox there's no going back unfortunately.

Samsung's Policy on root

Rooting still voids warranty here correct?

Can root be obtained on a sumsung device without unlocking?
My tf700 could be rooted, and then unlocked if you wanted. THis would be nice, cause you could root, but if needing to send it in, you could remove the root.

Yes. Samsung devices can usually be fully returned to stock.
The bootloader is fully unlocked, with the exception of the flash counter which tracks how many times you've flashed custom recoveries or kernels in download mode. However, on most other devices it is now known how to reset that counter - fairly sure we'll be able to reset this one as well. It's top of my priorities list.
Officially rooting voids your warranty, but that policy may be illegal in the United States due to the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act.
I'm really liking the looks of this! :good:
So glad I returned my TF700 for this beauty. It's supposed to be here by UPS within the next hour. :fingers-crossed:
Because Samsung devices have Odin you can almost always return to 100% stock unless u really mess something up. If entropy figures out the counter reset for us then we will really be set. Then if you need to go back to stock for a warranty claim you should be OK as long as it powers on and can get to download mode.

And if you really mess something up I've heard that 5 seconds in a microwave oven is enough so that the repair center won't be able to tell if the device have been rooted or not...

Counter reset is a go - I'm going to release tonight since that's a critical feature, although until I fix the wifi derpiness people will probably want to flash back to a stock kernel afterwards. (e.g. flash custom recovery, flash custom kernel, reset counter, flash stock kernel, keep custom recovery.)

Remove bloatware, no root or warranty void?

Is there any way to remove all the bloatware without voiding the warranty, rooting, and so I can update when ICS EVENTUALLY comes out? thanks

Not that I am aware of. But if you still want to update via kies just use titanium and freeze the bloat. But I am not aware of any way to root without voiding warranty. I know there is the back to stock using Odin, along with the flash counter reset

Yeah theres no way of doing it without rooting your phone. But, you are not necessarily voiding your warranty by rooting your phone. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act lets you root your phone and not void your warranty. Just root it, install a custom ROM, enjoy the hell out of it until ICS comes out (IF it ever comes out and T-Mobile decides to get off their lazy butts and do something productive). And IF it does come out, just use Odin to return to stock, and reset the flash counter. You'll be good to go.
Please post questions in the Q&A/General section. This section is for development (roms, kernel, recovery, etc.).

[Q] Will Odin to 4.3 lock the bootloader?

When Odin back to stock will it lock the bootloader? Specifically from a unlocked firmware and then Odin to 4.3 image.

I should imagine that if you Odin using an OTA or stock tar from your provider then yes, you will lock your bootloader. AFAIK (which, mind you could be in error) the bootloader in the 4.3 OTA locks and deploys KNOX.
To save root I would ODIN stock root ROM or the like from XDA. Better yet install a custom recovery and then install rooted stock.

Ok thanks. Yeah it may sound weird but my goal is to get one of my phones completely back to stock. Stock recovery, Knox, Bootloader locked etc. I believe I have achieved my overall goal but cannot tell if I have a lock or unlocked bootloader still. When I first started my phone after Odin it showed a splash screen that said custom with an unlock symbol which threw me off. After booting the phone the custom lock splash screen during boot up went away. Kinda weird.

Yeah. That is odd. Which is why we all take chances of borking our devices when we flash. Crazy stuff can happen. The Custom reference and unlock to me implies you still have a custom recovery and unlocked BL. Either way with the KNOX trip your phone is out of warranty. But then perhaps the person at VZW won't check.
Something I've started to do (suggestion from prdog1) is when I flash I wipe System along with Dalvik and Data. Clears out any "leftovers" from previous flashes it seems.
Just a thought.

Yea I was unaware of KNOX until after I Odin to 4.3. So a little worried I tripped it in the process. Also I never Triangled Away before either. Im wondering if I should saferoot her then use triangle away and then Odin one more time.
Yea I also like to wipe system sometimes too. I've noticed most every Rom will wipe system during installation anyways tho.

Well, IMHO it's immaterial resetting with Triangle Away. Since KNOX is tripped and cannot be reversed any VZW employee who happens to looks and discovers the KNOX trip can reject the phone (AFAIK).

Anyway of resetting custom binary counter on locked bootloader

So I wanted to get a spare S3 back to stock so I could trade it in for an upgrade, so I Odin'd to the official 4.3 with NC1 locked bootloader, but forgot to reset the custom binary counter. Is there any way to reset custom binary counter once you are on a locked bootloader? Any help would be appreciated.
Any thoughts?

I have seen people who say you can use triangle away but I have also seen people who said triangle away doesn't work or bricks the phone on the locked bootloader. I am 99% sure it doesn't work and 100% sure you shouldn't try.

There is an option to reset this in Odin when you odin a stock image. And yes do not use triangle away on a locked bootlaoder. It will brick you. Do it in odin!

Not sure if I mentioned it previously, but I don't need to preserve anything on the phone. That being I didn't happen to notice the option in Odin, can you point me in the right direction? I appreciate it. Thanks for all your help.

Its a check box "F. Reset Time" under options.
Just use the vzw repair assistant. It will reset you phone to stock as well as killing off the counter. No need for odin. For the users that just want the custom padlock gone, wanam. Resets the flag to official.

Seeing that he doesn't need to preserve anything his best bet is Odin. The program you mention is unnecessary as it takes much longer and backs up his phone and he does not need to that.

Actually its straight forward, eadier to use, and has a check mark option to back up the phone. Its the same as using odin. I used it with out backing up my phone. Other users reported problems with using odin. Like the process stops. Never happened to me. Also the vzw tool put the phone in download mode. And I have to say for putting your phone back to stock and resetting the flash counter is better then odin.

Recieved new Sprint SM-G900P on Friday. Downgrade is blocked - Root Options?

Hello all,
I just joined Sprint last week, and received my S5 on Friday. After two days I had had it with touchwiz, bloatware and bad battery life. So I set out on a quest to root it without tripping KNOX today.
Only to spend hours researching and finally realizing that my BOG1 fw prevents me from downgrading.
So is my only option to use CW's Auto Root and trip KNOX in the process? Really I would rather have a custom recovery but it would be nice to be able to revert to stock if I ever need to return the phone for repair or TEP replacement.
NEVERMIND. Said Eff it and rooted it with auto root.

If you take it to Sprint for repair, just make sure you odin the stock tar and you shouldn't have any issues...at least I never have. Yeah, the no trip knox for root I think went out when the lollipop update came out.

Oh well, now knox 0x1, but happily rooted and running MOAR 7.0. I did run a backup of the OEM image before installing.
