HELP! Custom under Samsung boot logo

I need to return my phone and ive used the guide to reset my flash counter with triangle away (which was never tripped, just did it for piece of mind), then i used odin and used the stock kernel and stock image to reinstall back to stock. Everything passed but when i boot my phone up right under the samsung logo it still says custom with the unlock logo. How do i get rid of this so i can return my phone back to verizon?
EDIT***** So i re-rooted then installed ez-unlocker and locked the bootloader again. Then reinstalled stock image through odin and all is well now

Try locking your bootloader with Ez-Unlock in the play store.

My phones not rooted so i cant use the app.

I thought using Odin with the stock rom/kernel automatically locks the bootloader?

I thought so as well but when I restarted my phone it still said custom. I tried to factory wipe data after I reflashed stock and still didn't work. So I dont know what happened

that means your bootloader is indeed locked...look around on the forums a bit! When the custom unlock screen is gone then your unlocked. I believe there is a guide in the dev section that explains this. :angel:

Well when you first boot up a brand new phone it doesn't have the custom on the samsung screen and that's locked

Wait hold up if you have an s4 why are you on the S3 forums? I am assuming you have at&t , T-Mobile or Sprint go to those threads as it makes much more sense to do that.

[Q] HELP ME!! I f$*ked my phone up royally!

Okay, kind of a noob. I have the Samsung Galaxy S3 Verizon. I was on 4.1.2 rooted using Beanstown 106 method, and was running axis rom. It was ok but 4.3 came out & I wanted to try it, since the rom had excellent performance, but a lot of little bugs that were bothering me. I shut the root off in the SU accepted the 4.3 ota update and everything was fine except for when the phone would boot up it showed the samsung logo with an unlock padlock and said custom.. Not a big deal but I liked the 4.3 so wanted to take away the boot unlock icon (just in case for warranty purposes). It was my understanding if I would ODIN back to stock it would go away. Long story short in between trying to odin to stock, Kies back to stock and every other method I can find, my phone is stuck in ODIN/download mode and won't do anything else. I've searched everywhere and cannot figure it out. In odin mode the phone says something like Software upgrade error, use software repair assistant or something like that. Don't know what to try or do, and stuck using a razr until I get my GS3 back. Please help!!!

Didn't accept the OTA, but from what others have posted, it sounds like the correct way to do it is to revert to stock, unroot, relock bootloader and use triangle away to reset counter, then accept the OTA. If you dont use triangle away prior to accepting OTA, you get the unlock icon + custom. Once you accept the OTA, trying to revert to anything else or flashing a custom recovery will result in a hard brick.

Well then I'm hard bricked, because I tried to ODIN back to stock as well as KIES and they both just say fail..

I just fixed my phone with verizon software utility. My guide should be up with the utility sometime tonight. If you can get into bootloader it will flash SCH-I535_I535VRUCML1 I tried to get the files it downloaded but there not odin files or zips.

[Q] flashing locked bootloader doesn't stick?

So, my phone is running 4.1.2 rooted, and it got an OTA recently. The OTA failed because the bootloader was unlocked.
I thought easy-peasy, just odin flash the locked boot loader and download/apply OTA again, right?
Flashed fine, locked and clean for initial boot. But when it went to install the OTA, same problem happened, the bootloader was miraculously unlocked again, and the OTA failed.
Any ideas on how I can get past this? I really don't mind loosing root, just trying to avoid a complete odin reflash and loosing everything...

I am just curious ... why would you want to update to the OTA 4.3 and forever lock down the bootloader? Once the verizon 4.3 update takes hold, you might be able to root, but (so far) will not be able to load custom roms without bricking the device.

Well your almost right. First off you for sure can root. Second you can install custom roms with safestrap. Its limited to tw roms atm. There have been a hand full of people who upgraded just to use safestrap. I wouldnt recomend it right now because its alittle buggy.

Wife's phone. She doesn't want to mess with it.
I think I figured it out, looks like I had a custom recovery installed. Flashed that to stock and locked bootloader and all is fine now. Running latest and greatest. Just what the missus is looking for...

ThePagel - Thanks. One one of my phones was cursed with an accidental OTA 4.3 upgrade. Nice to know something is in the works, I'll dig up that thread and watch it.

I assume if one wants to go the custom ROM route they would simply need to odin flash one of the older stock images and go from there. Doesn't seem like a big problem. Of course > 50% chance I have no idea what I'm talking about...

If you take the 4.3 OTA, you cannot odin flash an older stock image. Will brick your device.

Really? That is pretty tragic. I may only buy unlocked devices from here on out; they seem to be getting better and better at making their devices less and less useful...

[Q] Was rooted - took OTA - hanging at white Verizon logo screen

I was rooted and made the mistake of accepting the latest OTA update, which I assume was the new and devious 4.3. The update process seemed to work fine, but on reboot, phone is now freezing at the white Verizon logo screen.
My boot sequence looks like this: "SAMSUNG ([lock pic] Custom)" -> "SAMSUNG GALAXY S III" on black -> Swirly SAMSUNG logo on black -> Verizon animation on white -> HANG at indefinitely repeating few-frame loop animation of shining Verizon logo on white background.
I can get to Download mode - it looks like this:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SCH-I535
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (2 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
*NO* mention of Warranty Bit.
Does this mean I am still on 4.1.2 and not dreaded 4.3 Knox? I don't want to screw up and accidentally brick this thing.
Unfortunately I have crappy notes from my original rooting, so I don't know if I had a simple root or custom ROM or custom bootloader or what. I know I have CF-Auto-Root-d2vzw-d2vzw-schi535.tar.md5, VRBMB1_Bootchain.tar.md5, and VRALEC.bootchain.tar.md5 in my work folder, and I was only rooting so I could use SGS3 Easy UMS so I likely did whatever method was needed for that.
How can I get back to functional? Stock or custom, I don't care, but with all the bricking dangers I'm reading about after this new OTA update I just want to proceed extra carefully. Also I'd really like to not have to wipe the phone with a factory reset or anything like that.

You got lucky. For some reason your boot chain didn't flash so it's still unlockable.
You need to flash this file in Odin:

Using section 5 of this guide:

Then root and unlock with casual:

Then download ez unlock 1.2 and verify it's unlocked.
Then you're good to go again. Install a custom rom and never accept an Ota again.
As far as wiping your phone goes, you can't really do much about that, this is pretty much a last resort.

I just want to add that if you want to keep stock rooted, just make sure you disabled OTA. Like Badusername mentioned if you decided to flash custom rom then you don't have to worry about OTA.

If that's everything in download mode, then you are still on 4.1.2. If you want to try retaining your /sdcard data, then you could try Odin flashing the no-wipe VRBMB1 image.
If you would like to start clean and wipe away /sdcard, then Odin flash this VRBMF1 4.1.2 stock image. You would need to root and unlock in both cases. DO NOT accept the 4.3 OTA in either case.

Unfortunately, it looks like I lost all my text messages though. That was one of the main things I had been hoping to preserve, to keep a record of some conversations. Unless there's something I'm missing and they might still be lurking somewhere?
My photos survived and it looks like apart from a few settings it's mostly unwiped. Cool! Glad I didn't ruin it. Now I can try a custom 4.3 or something else if I want, but for now I'm just glad to have it working again.

This happened to me after flashing VZW-I535VRUCML1-20131220083128 instentionally to return back to stock.
after flashing with odin in PDA mode, the samsung 'custom' screen came on then the loop on the white logo.

No problem. Idk why custom would be there unless you tried flashing something pre-4.3 in Odin beforehand? Odin flashing the VRUCML1 tar would wipe everything else off the phone in terms of rom and root. It doesn't affect anything unless you plan on doing a warranty replacement.

Anyway of resetting custom binary counter on locked bootloader

So I wanted to get a spare S3 back to stock so I could trade it in for an upgrade, so I Odin'd to the official 4.3 with NC1 locked bootloader, but forgot to reset the custom binary counter. Is there any way to reset custom binary counter once you are on a locked bootloader? Any help would be appreciated.

Any thoughts?

I have seen people who say you can use triangle away but I have also seen people who said triangle away doesn't work or bricks the phone on the locked bootloader. I am 99% sure it doesn't work and 100% sure you shouldn't try.

There is an option to reset this in Odin when you odin a stock image. And yes do not use triangle away on a locked bootlaoder. It will brick you. Do it in odin!

Not sure if I mentioned it previously, but I don't need to preserve anything on the phone. That being I didn't happen to notice the option in Odin, can you point me in the right direction? I appreciate it. Thanks for all your help.

Its a check box "F. Reset Time" under options.

Just use the vzw repair assistant. It will reset you phone to stock as well as killing off the counter. No need for odin. For the users that just want the custom padlock gone, wanam. Resets the flag to official.

Seeing that he doesn't need to preserve anything his best bet is Odin. The program you mention is unnecessary as it takes much longer and backs up his phone and he does not need to that.

Actually its straight forward, eadier to use, and has a check mark option to back up the phone. Its the same as using odin. I used it with out backing up my phone. Other users reported problems with using odin. Like the process stops. Never happened to me. Also the vzw tool put the phone in download mode. And I have to say for putting your phone back to stock and resetting the flash counter is better then odin.
