G4 6.0 update rolling to ATT users soon per ATT support page 2/8/16.

goo.gl/q8WswX

Probably in a few more months or the the end of the year it will be rolling out for the V10 also. I will never understand why their so backwards with releasing updates new flagship phones no updates but phones that have been out for over a year updates.

Mine is downloading the update now

I just got the notification for the update, but I'm rooted, so I'll wait a bit...

Updated

That didn't go well. The update install process crashed, and now my phone won't boot past the LG screen. Factory reset does not work. The screen goes black about 15 seconds after starting reset.

Were you rooted at the time of the update?

Nope not rooted. After some research, I believe my phone suffered from the boot loop issue that some early production G4's have, and had nothing to do with the update. I contacted LG support and they are going service it and return it on their dime.
So I bought a Nexus 6p.?

Interestingly enough, other G4 user's that are local and on AT&T have gotten the notification for MM, but I haven't and nothing comes up as available from Update Center or on LG Bridge.
Any ideas why my phone is left out? Totally stock, non rooted.

Not sure exactly what the criteria, but it seems to be randomly allowing the update. I set my phone to a week in the future and checked again and it let me update the second time.

Do this. For me, today It said your phone is up to date. Then when I left my house, I got the update found message, connect to Wi-Fi to update. When I returned, it told me to try in 20 hours so by turning the clock forward a few days in the Date & Time section, sure enough, I am downloading the update now.

Still nothing... Even did a factory reset. Nothing. Changed the date for a week in the future, nothing.

Try updating through the "about phone" settings page, I was rooted when I got the notice. AT&T sections out updates to keep load off their servers, sometimes it can take up to two weeks to a month before the update pushes to all users :/

Been there done that...No Updates Available.

Is your G4 unlocked? Are you on AT&T network?

I'm on AT&T's network, and it's locked.
Update- I got it to update itself to MM -- here's how I did it. I first flashed it to 10o from 10g using the Back to Stock/TOT Method from another thread. For whatever reason, my phone was 'stuck' on 10g, which prevented it from updating to anything newer. Once I flashed it to 10o, it instantly came up with 'An update is available', and downloaded the OTA for MM.

Not to alarm people, but this OTA update bricked a stock Captivate

Take this for what it is. One person with a stock captivate phone who had problems.
He claims he didn't stop the update half way through the process or anything like that.
the latest software update from at&t bricked my ****ing phone. ***** i talked to through online at&t chat said it's the manufacturer's fault when it's really not. who do i contact to replace the phone?

i have no idea. i think it was just a gps update. the thing is i'm running a completely un-modded phone. this is ****ing bull**** if i have to pay money for something that samsung/at&t ****ed up. it's completely bricked. won't boot, won't power on, won't even charge. tried reseating the battery and sim card a dozen times and i tried doing the volume buttons + power button boot thing and it's just ****ed.

Updated my Captivate and it’s working great. I have heard of those that cancel in the middle of the update could experience problems – some even claim it bricked their phone.
so bro, tell us the truth.. Did you turn off ur phone or cancel the update mid way?

i never said it was forced. i read a post about froyo maybe being available so i clicked the 'software updates' thing and it said an update was available. it downloaded and said it was going to reboot the phone to presumably install it. the phone rebooted to a white screen with a blue loading bar and said 'update failed.' now it no longer powers on or even recognizes being charged.

I can attest to the update bricking. I did cancel the download half way to turn on wifi and figured it would be simply restarting the download, but instead it started installing what was there and it stated it was going to restart so I let it and then nothing happened...tried taking the battery out and tried getting into download mode to no avail. Anyone got any ideas?

He spoke to the wrong person then and should call back. Mine is broken also, and it's past the 30 days, so all I could get was a refurbished one. Better than nothing. I'm never doing an OTA update again. Flashed my phone upwards of 20 times and if something messed up I could alway reset to download and re-flash.

This.
I went to the warranty and repair center in my area (dunno if everyone has one?) and they have ordered a new (refurb?) captivate for me. As long as it works and isn't too beat up, I don't really care. I'm just sick of this E63. lol
is the internal 16gb an internal memory card? Maybe if it is, you can pull that out and rebuild the whole OS of the phone through another source such as a card reader.
I tried the update on my phone. It's rooted and set up for sideload as well as a few other hacks.
However, I only bought my phone about 3 weeks ago. The update has failed 4 times for me, then i checked the existing firmware on the phone. It's already at I897UCJH7.
Take it for what it's worth.
Mine is totally stock and it was also bricked last night. I tried everything to fix it but it is completely dead. I tried the update last night and didn't interrupt it at all. The progress bar made it to 50%, stalled for a minute and then gave a message that the update failed. It tried to restart and it went completely dead. I've tried using Odin, but nothing happens. sin
I also called AT&T and was initially less than pleased after I was told to call Samsung for a possible fix. I told CS that I didn't buy the phone from Samsung and that I wasn't calling them, since it was an AT&T problem. I finally got someone to authorize a return and my new one should be here in a couple of days, but the fact that this thing was totally bricked so easily because of an official update is ridiculous.
The only updates out there is JH7/2.1. Bricking phones while OTA update to JH7 is nothing new. Just check all the JH7 threads. Stay away from OTA updates for now.
You won't get 2.2 OTA update until weeks after it is talked about all over the place.

Sprint software update

After doing some digging I see there is a new LS996ZV5 update. I am rooted so have not gotten any OTA notifications. Has anyone gotten it and does it help with lag and battery?
My phone seems pretty snappy as is but always want the latest if possible.
Guess one last thing. What are thoughts on timetable of custom recovery and maybe some rooted roms for us Sprint users?
Any discussion welcome!

Got the update OTA this morning (I am stock). Phone is absolutely flying now.
Not sure on battery life yet as it's only been a couple of hours since I updated.
I unrooted and took the system update. It wasn't the new firmware though. Not sure what it was. I tried to have phone look for firmware update afterwards and it didn't show the new one yet.

it won't work while rooted, i've tried, twice. i'm waiting on the update prompt again to try my next thing, but if you want to try it feel free. if you open up superuser and go to the settings there is an option to fully unroot the device, its towards the bottom. After you do that restart and then try and apply the update.
let me know if it works! hopefully i get the update prompt again in the morning and will finally be able to get this thing updated!!!!
So curious as to what this update was. All I know is that today my battery life isn't nearly as good. Normally after working for 8hrs my phone is around 75%... Today it was at 40%... Massive difference and i did nothing out of the ordinary
That sounds like my phone, I've noticed that I Google services is using more battery than the screen recently.

My battery life has actually been really good. I was getting 15-20 hrs before the update and now I am getting 25-30 hours after. (Light use)
My battery seems pretty good also. Plus it does appear the widgets are loading faster and less jumpiness between screens. Rerooted after the update and all seems fine so far

i didn't get prompted with the update again this morning so i wasn't able to try anything to get my phone to update today. if someone hasn't applied the update yet but has the prompt would you be able to grab the update file and post it? i'll do the same if i get the update prompt again and nothing has been posted yet. at least that way we can try stuff without having to wait for it to decide to check for an update since the manual update check doesn't appear to do anything.....
Hmmmm. I guess I'll use GServiceFix app. See if that solves my issues
---------- Post added at 09:04 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:59 AM ----------
Yeah. Its the android system using the battery. Used this fix app before and it solved my problems. Hopefully its still reliable.
again this morning, no update prompt and the "check for update" function continues to say i'm up to date. because i had issues with my first two i signed up for sprint insurance. if i don't get prompted for the update by monday morning i'll stop in a sprint store and see if i can get it swapped again. only problem with that is chancing getting one that overheats or has a bad screen like my previous two did
i rooted and got the OTG upgrade message, and i try but it show error and said my device is rooted then can't upgrade software. Then i try to use "fully unroot" in supersu, the supersu gone, but the error still shown. do anyone know how to unroot and upgrade? thank you very much!

sorry, you are stuck there are a couple of other threads with further discussion on it but so far no one has been able to get the OTA to apply after they have rooted. some of us have been able to get new devices through sprint with having their insurance and play it off as the OTA won't update. they have had enough issues with the device they don't really question it.

Help! On screen buttons not working!
I really need help. I factory reset my LG G Flex 2 cause I wanted to erased my info and give it as a present to my father for his birthday next october 14 and now the onscreen buttons don't respond, only the back button, nor the multitasking or home button. I turned it off and on, reset it several times, cleared the partition cache or whatever it is called but no luck, mine is running LS996ZV5. It was perfect before the reset. I feel so bad. Thanks in advance for your help.

Virgin Mobile S5 constantly freezing and restarting after system update.

My wife's phone is a virgin mobile s5. It was only about 3 months old.
It was already on 5.0 when she purchased it.
After doing a system update, my wife's phone became unstable.
Phone will randomly freeze or sometimes makes a crackling sound
then restarts.
Any of this didn't happen at all before the update.
Any help would be appreciated

You should probably download and odin the full factory tar.
OTA updates sometimes cause problems with existing loads.

I'm sorry? I didn't quite get that.
The only part I understood is downloading odin, which I already have. I don't want to ruin my wife's phone warranty.
Nevertheless, we already sent the device to Samsung to get it checked...

You could have downloaded the factory image and reflashed the phone. Hopefully they will do it for you. I'm sure that support with vm is probably pretty limited anyway.
Just got the phone back from samsung service center, they didn't even manage to fix it. Wtf

Marshmallow update error 411 download unsuccessful

I have been trying to update my wife's bone stock S6 to Marshmallow today. When I check for updates, it shows that it is available. I tell it to download and I immediately get an "update failed to download". It does it on both wifi and lte. I've tried rebooting. Does anyone know what causes this error or how I can get the update installed? Is the update file out there to download it so I could do a manual flash?
Same issue. Very annoying.
same
Having the same problem with my s6 but my wifes s6 edge updated with no problems
Same issue here. Tried through the desktop updater as well but no update was found.
I really hope this isn't some April fools joke. Because it's doing the same thing for me.
Update has been pulled.
Apparently the update has been pulled.
This is From Verizon support:
"We have had a couple other customers chat in with the same issue (in the past 10 minutes) and we did confirm with Samsung that the Marshmallow update is on hold right now because of some bug fixes. They do not have an estimated time for the release of the update yet but once it is known it will become public."
We've been had. Jokes on is! Good one, Samsung assholes!
This is pure bull ****. Same problem here, update unsuccessful. Just great. 20 months later and I still can't get it, bad enough I can't root... wah.
They'll probably take another few months to release it again. Google really needs to put pressure on the providers to release these updates quicker.
Scratch that. About a half hour after my comment above, the update is downloading.
Was getting the same error. I just powered my phone off then turned it back on. Update screen popped up and it's downloading now.
Yep. I'm on Marshmallow now.
I was able to update just now as well.
Updated here as well.

This if ****ing retarded. Ive downloaded like 10 times and it fails between 1-30% every ****ing time. WTF!!!
I just noticed that I am on the April 2nd Security patch. I wonder if those that updated yesterday are showing a different patch level. Was there actually a bug that Verizon was able to pull, fix, and re-release in only hours? That has to be a record.
Anyone know where I can find the odin files for this?

Pixel Keeps Rebooting?

Hi there. Just got my Pixel yesterday and I've loved it so far. Even though I can't unlock bootloader, stock is fine the way it is and a lot of tweaks I planned to do were available without root. Plus it's a huge improvement over my G4 and SE.
Anyway, the only problem I have with the phone is the random reboots caused by updates. When the device shipped it was on 7.1.2, yet the phone continues to update. I suspect it's security updates, because it seems that enabling "Disable Automatic Updates" in developer options hasn't stopped the reboots. Is this normal or is it happening to anyone else?
P.S. To anyone that asks why don't I just update to Oreo, I prefer to wait at least a month before updating to make sure most bugs and issues are properly fixed.
Your phone needs to go through all those updates when you first get it. Is normal. Mine rebooted to update about 6 times before it was all caught up. Yours will probably be more. Be patient. It's worth it. [emoji5]
