Gear Watchface Designer - What watchfaces have you or are you creating? - Samsung Gear S2

This thread is for designers to share their watchfaces created with the Gear Watchface Designer. Below are images of my first attempt with GWD called GlowingSportWatch.

First Attempt
I would post the very simple combination analogue/digital watch face that I'm currently using but I'm new here and can't post image links. Oh well.
I'm now working on a black watch face with spotlights that act as the hour and minute hands revealing the watch face as it goes. Probably works better in my head than in reality but it'll be different if nothing else.
If I can find the right images somewhere I might also try a background with a picture of the earth that rotates in sync with the time, or maybe one where you see the sun rise and set followed by the moon doing the same. So many possibilities...

Are these available for download?

My First Attempt with GearWatchDesigner
Here is a screen shot of my first attempt with using Gear Watch Designer. Just trying multiple features at the same time. Also fun to finally have control over the sequence of layers and the ability to stack graphic layers in-between other layers.
The design incorporates
6 Digital clock items:
Hour, Minute, Second stacked on left side. Day, Month, Date stacked on right side
5 Analog clock items
the three outside comets are analog hands for hour, minute, second as they move around the face.
And there are two other graphics of twinkling stars that move, one clockwise and the other counter-clockwise as "Second Hands" (counter-clockwise movement is really cool)
Plus two complications: Steps count at the top, and a Battery level graphic at the bottom.
As a newbie, I cannot post a link to the picture, but you should be able to decipher this.

I posted a 33 second video clip of the watch on YouTube (put the https together)

I really don't see the theme here, you got an image of the visible universe in the background in a realistic style, but then you have those abstract streaks on the edges as clock hands, what are they supposed to be? why are they hanging around at the moment of the big bang? And then you have the minimalist numbers in the center, which again, thematically clash with the background. Plus you have the step count up there, which doesn't make sense for a space themed watch face, I mean who counts steps in space? The same can be said of the battery meter, it's usually only there for like utility themed watch faces because usually there's no reason to be worrying about the battery, unless you want a utility look to it.

Oops, sorry I failed to explain the reason for this. Not intended for anyone to actually use. Just a demo of the multiple capabilities of this as watch face design software. I am participating on a Google Community board about all things associated with Gear S and Gear S2, including watch faces. A lot of discussion about different development tools including Mr. Time Maker and Photo Watch Pro. Discussion about what these have, and what they don't offer.
Gear Watch Designer has most of the features people have asked for. So I put together this watch face to demo the ability to use digital, analog, animation, and complications.
Reminds me of the days when I put together plastic model cars from kits and the package included a sheet of decals which had flames, stripes, numbers, and other things. I once thought I was supposed to use all the decals, and I covered that car. LOL, what a mess!

I have avoided Error 78 by not using the command line "sbd install..." command. Instead I use the Run On Device command to install on my watch from the GWD software.

This is the one I made, It's both digital and analog, I intended it to be just for private use but if you guys like it I can try and upload it to the appstore.

Two so far. Just started last night

Hi all,
I'm a player of Ingress and I've made a watchFace themed on resistance color.
For those how knows Ingress, the resonators disappears with battery drain.
The portal is a shortcut to batterie status and the day send you ton the calendar.
What do you think about?

Here's a few I've done with both live and ambient modes. As you can see, I've managed a fairly dynamic ambient mode with several. I won't be uploading these to the store as they do not contain enough original content (the first one is a direct copy of Clay: Epoch which is just not available in the Gear store for me otherwise I would buy it). The second is taken from watchawear (called Opulence) and reconfigured for the Gear S2. A couple are more original, but even the logo I'm using wasn't mine (from Partickss at freekpik).
One thing I am struggling with is creating action buttons. I can create them and edit them by adding a battery complication and deleting images and using the action button to do something different (for example on most of mine, tapping the date triggers my schedule), but can't figure out how to do it by just converting an image to an action button. Any idea?

My new Watchface for Gear S2, i'm waiting to post on SamsungGearApps Store:

My Latest Watch Face and Problem
My latest project is running into a bit of a problem. As you can see from my testing screen shot, the text is all rotated. It appears that there is a bug with rotated text that is tied to data synchronization (heart rate, battery level, steps taken). I can rotate this text, build the project and test the project. However when I load to my watch, these three fields are no longer rotated. Also, if I quit GWD and later return to this project, these fields show no rotation.
Yes, I am saving my project. Yes, I am testing my project. Yes, the build is using the updated and saved project with the fields rotated. Just does not stick. However, the rotation of digital clock fields works just fine.
I have reported this problem on the Samsung designer forum.
What it should look like:
What appears on my watch:

It is a watch which you can edit/configure on the gear2 itself.
You can change the background, hands type and color, digital time on/off ampm or 24h, battery indicator on/off.
You can also select a background from the gallery on the gear2.
Nice free background images can be found on gearfaces.com
The app is currently "Under device test" by Samsung, might take a few days to become publicly available.
Here is a preview video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdo9JBPInIk
Put the Multi-Watch in "Edit-mode" by clicking in the center of the watch, return to "User-mode" by clicking again in the center.
Edit-Mode:
=======
Center: switch on/off Edit-mode
Top left corner: select image from Gallery
Top middle: set dots or number in a circle on the screen
Top right corner: am/pm or 24h time format
Right middle: date on/off and position
Bottom Right: position of digital time
Bottom middle: select a build-in watch face
Bottom left: Select hands type/color
Left middle: show battery status
Area around the center: fine-tuning date and digital time position

Even if I wanted, technically it is not possible to post a working development version here I think.
The watch (wgt file) needs to be signed with a Samsung developer certificate that is bound to my own gear2 device. It would give a certificate error on other devices.
Samsung does this to protect developers, so that their development versions of apps can't be distributed.
Wgt that do not use special priviliges, don't need to be signed with a samsung developer certificate, these can be used by others too, that are basic WebKit apps, like some of the watches posted here.
You probably have already seen privilege errors trying to install some of the demo apps...that's because you need a samsung developer certificate (public type) to build/sign these.
It's bedtime over here, I'll read your comments and wishes(!) tomorrow.
Thanks for all the positive reactions so far.
Is it possible to load your own clock hands aswell??
Sent from my SM-G900F using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
he never said it was going to cost did he ? lol , maybe a free time trial for xda members heh ?
but yes if all works out defiantly worth supporting.
I have a feeling that Samsung won't release it. I don't know why....but I just have a feeling that they are gonna be pricks about letting ppl customize our own devices...

if its a possibility that they wont allow is , isn't it possible to just share the wgt file , from this thread we have a few we can share and load on eachothers watches and they work fine.

but you know more about the developers and settings more then me , but just wondering
This looks sweet. You need any beta testers ?

Is it possible to use your own designs or do you have to use works created by others from the original gear one watch styler themes? (see images below)
Ps. it's customary and polite to credit the original authors when you use work that is not your own... Just sayin'.

No he says that the author used images not created by him. And that Gearfaces can be used for the backgrounds, but Im the owner of GF and I need to ask every designer his permission to use their backgrounds for this.
Their not our creations and these designers spent tons of time on some of them. So I think its fair to give the proper people credits at least, or maybe even ask their permission. As he wants to ask money for this app with someone elses work.

Nice. I like the first one. I'm only a fan of relatively simple dark faces like that. Keep them coming.
I think selling watch faces is fine as long as you are adding features beyond ambient mode. With the watch face apps now it is easy to create the background with the watch hands. Adding the widgets on them, now there is where you will start to differentiate yourself as a dev and make money on the app store. Me personally I am not a fan of watch faces that mimic real life watch faces. I can see have a couple of them because they are cool but being original is more important. So far it seems that samsung has not given us the full sdk on the watch faces. I say this because no one has been able to figure out the smooth second hand instead of ticking 60 times. Or the ability to actually "stylize" watches instead of having to double or triple tap the screen(which is a little annoying).
Very nice watch faces. What do you use to make the backgrounds, dials, hands? Gsk3rd I was messing around with designer and there is an option for the sweeping (smooth) second hand. Once you choose a hand for seconds there is a drop down menu that you can choose from the default normal, to sweeping, and I think there's another option but I forgot what it was. Now being able to make stylize options for a face or custom shortcuts would be cool. I haven't found options for that yet.
Here is a basic question, is it possible to put in a weather widget like the stylise option with gear watch designer?

I totally understand that and that is something I want to do, if not for this giant learning cliff that's almost impossible to climb. I surveyed almost all the watch faces available in the store and I can say that almost all the free ones are ****, made by people with no design sensibilities. The good paied ones run from $1 to $3, with the $3 ones being really good with fancy features. So I figured that if I can make these with reasonable artistic value, I would be somewhat justified to sell them for $1.
As for making those fully custom watch faces, Tizen only runs web apps, which are basically just web pages, which may sound like ABCD for programmers but I'm not a programmer. I messed around with the Tizen SDK, which seems to be just a custom version of Eclipse, which is basically a glorified Notepad, It's just so not intuitive.
There are no tutorials other than the ones that just assume that you already know how to develop, so they just tell you what's different for Tizen.
There is no graphical interface, I mean it's WEB! It's HTML! Why do I have to write codes just to place an image! Like couldn't there be at least a live preview!? But no, you gotta build the whole thing and run it in a VM just to preview it.
I really tried and I'm tired of it, the SDK doesn't even support high DPI, so all the icons are tiny on my 4k screen It all just feel like a big middle finger from Samsung. Even the Gear Watch Face Designer doesn't have high DPI support, I have to run the whole thing in VM. Thankfully the program is so badly designed it lags even when running normally, so the performance penalty really isn't that noticeable.

Photoshop The other one is tension, which mimics the tick of a real second hand, it doesn't do a good job at it so I don't use it. The hand only overshoots, it doesn't bounce back beyond the correct position so it still looks fake.

Love this face. This is what I want from my watch face. To have real time data from multiple complications on weather, heart rate, date, steps and more and each of these complications should act like a short cut to the relevant app. For example date takes me to my calendar. Hope to see that feature included too. Keep up the good work!

Exactly, you are right .... this watchface has 8 buttons that opening app like date to calendar etc.... just try it ! I put the link of the gear market in this day i think or tomorrow at last ....
I think there is always a place to sell value adding apps and watch faces that are clear, easy to read and provide functionality fall into category for me. As we all have different tastes, built in user customisation should only increase the potential buyer base but also sets the programmer apart for those who just tinker.
does anybody know where to get the app id for apps like "timer" or weather? or where to get a complete list of all this app ids ?

This is my first time doing any kind of development for mobile, so I'm still struggling to find my way and my applications for are still being approved by Samsung. Here are two designs I made in the mean time, please tell me if you think it is fair for me to sell them for $1 each.
They don't have any additional features, other than ambient mode. The second one looks exactly the same in ambient mode while the first reduces to simple tick marks and hands which follow naturally from the active mode.

The second counter around the edge can't be done because time based animation seems to be broken. Weather and dphone battery can't be done, and there's to way to add custom TrueType fonts so the month counter might look wired, on top of a possible bug that will prevent any month indicator from showing up at all.

Hello,
Time based animation is generated sometimes buggy by GWD but you can fix manually the watchface.xml file before building and uploading to the watch in order to make it working (if you post your buggy file, I can send it back corrected).
For the weather indicator, I usually put a "fixed" picture as a button linked to the weather app.
For the custom TTF addition, I put a solution here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s2/orig-development/ttf-fonts-gear-watch-designer-t3291947

K.

In addition, as I have no graphic design talent, if someone post the background and the watch hands pictures, I can try to make the watch (with the above restrictions) and post the .gwd file.

Hum, I have suspected, but too lazy to try it, so you can just edit that manually and it will still work.

Custom watch face

Please let me know if I'm in the wrong section.
] I'm looking for someone who wants to develop a custom watch face for me. I have a moto 360 v2, but I am disappointed by the options available on google play. I have certain features that I want in a watch face, and while I can find all of them individually in different faces, I have yet to find all of them together. I don't actually care what the watch looks like, so long as I can get all the features I want in one face. I am obviously willing to pay a reasonable price for this service.
Features I am looking for :
Semi - circles around the watch face showing calendar events. I'd like to see multiple, overlapping calendars using Google calendar colours. I currently have bought several faces with semi circles displaying calendar events, but none of them show more than one event at a time and none of them show more than one colour, I frequently have overlapping events, and I want to see them at a glance and I want to see them in their proper colours.
4 dials around a digital time in the centre.
I'd like very very slender clock hands showing analog time, but I need to be able to see precise digital time at a glance. I'd like the digital time to be tap-able, so that tapping it brings up my agenda app.
The top dial should display the day and date, and when tapped, bring up any random app of choice (I want shazzam)
The left dial should show the current temperature and when tapped, bring up the next week's forecast.
The right dial should show steps taken, and when tapped open up google fit.
The bottom dial should show both the watch and phone battery status, and when tapped open up settings.
If this sounds like a viable watch face to you and you have the skills to create it, please contact me.
Thank you very much
Kyla

Watchmaker Premium is a fine program that I have been using to create my own watch faces.
It is easy to use and does the job properly, and most definitely worth the $3.99
I am not in any way affiliated with it's creators, just a happy user
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=slide.watchFrenzy.premium
I used watchmaker free, and was too limited, is the premium one capable of giving me what I described?

[Watchface] Gem Koi: Koi fish chasing the time

Hi guys!
We just released a Watch Face app that features a couple of Koi fish pushing gems around to show the time. The concept is simple: the two fish will take turn to push the Second gem every 5 seconds. There is no number (except from the date at the center), so you can tell the time by looking at the gems (and the lotus )!
Here is a 3-second preview video:
Link to the app: http://bit.ly/GemKoi
This is a Preview release of the app. At the moment, there is only one theme, and we're working on more. This version is completely free (it does not contain any In-App purchase product as of now). We might release a Pro version some time in the future. Just give us some feedback!
Regards,
Tony @ Teragon
Your watchface is great, it s the only one I like as starwatch. If you add some feature like carp colour, digital or analog clock, phone and watch battery status , metro or something else I will buy it for sure.

@Axel85, thank you for your suggestion! We are working on other themes for the carp and background at the moment. We will try to find a way to add other elements such as battery status or notification count in a way that is subtle and able to maintain the minimalistic style of this watch face. If you have an idea on this, send me a message

Gear Watch Designer - Cool!!

Just tried this and, while there are some tricks, it works pretty good. I know have a watch face with just about everything I want on it that looks like I want it to look. Took some experimentation but that was fun. If you know what you want and can't find it anywhere else, give this a try. And I still haven't figured out all it can do. Working on that.
Just designed a watch face that shows an analog between 0500 and 1000 then a digital for the night. Day shows battery %, day/date, and steps. Lots of fun!
AND!! Here's Here's how I got the Layer effect - two watchfaces for different times of the day - using GWD. Tricky but not hard:
- Select a Background from the menu on the left. It appears in the work area.
- Select the one entry you have under Timeline in the bottom left of the space showing your Backgrounds. Then go to Properties in the upper right and rename it Layer 1. Not necessary but I found this easier to work with. Everything you put on this layer will appear above this label.
- Select what components you want on this layer. I wanted a Night and Day face so I use Layer 1 as my night and put a digital face on it. Add complications as needed. They will all appear above the Layer 1 label on your Timeline block on the lower left. When done you will select the time frame they will NOT be visible. For me that's from 6 am to 10 pm.
- To highlight the chosen INVISIBLE times, select a start time from the light grey area on right. Say I want my digital watch to NOT show from 6 am - 10 pm (time shows in the scale on top of the grey area). - -- Put your cursor over the 6am block on any of the visible lines and hold the left button on your mouse down. Scroll around to select the time you want Layer 1 to be invisible. They will appear in green when selected. Now hold the right button down over one of the green squares and select Remove from the menu. This is tricky because the program doesn't always work right. You may need to try several times to get it the way you want it. Play with it. This will Remove that time frame from when this particular face will be visible. You can move the veritcle line on the Timeline around to make your face viable. Now start your second layer.
- Select another Background and label it Layer 2. It will appear over Layer 1 and hide what you have place on there but there will be a white outline for the items you've put on layer one, so keep that in mind. - Now put your desired items on this face as you did Layer 1. I chose an analog face.
- Once you've done that select the time this face will be INVISIBLE as you did Layer 1. I wanted this to be invisible during the times Layer 1 WAS visible so I selected 10 pm - 6 am and Removed that.
Another thing you can do is use the same background for each layer. Simply do NOT select the Layer 1 label on the timeline and it will appear all the time. Only the components will change.
- When this is done test it using the Run button on the task bar at the top of the screen. This brings up a test area that shows your face. Under Condition there is a sliding time adjustment so you can see what appears as what times. Use this to make sure everything shows when it should according to time.
- Satisfied? The build your face using the Build button on the task bar (2 down from Run), save, and you are good to go.
The program will ask you if you want to Save or get a certificate and such. I you don't want to put it on the Market don't worry about it. You can now load directly from the program to your watch. Or you can upload it to the Market to sell or share.
Enjoy! Any questions just give me a shout.
I made a couple of videos and posted them to youtube 4 days ago on this if watching a video is easier for some people.

Great idea! While it's mostly pretty intuitive I did struggle on some of the things I wanted to do.
I once made a cool complicated animation, with many objects appearing and disappearing during the different time periods and battery levels.
But it was so big, that editing it was going extra slow....
I guess, for more complicated watch faces, GWD is not enough. For some crazy animated, complicated watch faces the native app is better.

No idea. It's my first time doing any of this. All I wanted was a couple of useful watch faces and I got that. I think anything more complicated will have to wait a bit in my case.
