Leased Phone - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note5

Just curious if anyone has rooted their leased phone? First time leasing a phone and getting tired of stock already

? I did!
I was sick of stock by the time I walked out of the store haha

Yes I did, can't stand stock and all the apps that I don't use but could download from the internet if I did. Only a 1.5 or 2 week into the lease and considering paying the 2 year contract price instead of the lease.

Yea I usually pay the upgrade price with two year contract, but did not have the money and my old phone was pretty much dying (Hardware issue). Had no choice :crying:

Techinically, Sprint via internal memo and training has no real cares about your rooted phone. The rooting community is to large for them to "cut off" as it were. If something is wrong with your phone via rooting, i.e. boot looping, bricked, if you have the Equipment Protection it will still be changed for a replacement. As someone who fixes their phones as well, my main position is to correct the issue by reflashing the phone to stock software. If all else fails... no harm no foul. (They are going to refurbish that phone eventually anyway)
As for leasing, if you upgrade your phone every 12 months (early upgrade)then you shouldn't worry about resetting to a new 2 year contract. With a 2 year contract you have to wait 20 months to get an early upgrade option.

[Q] RIP HTC Inspire 4G (2/13/11-3/4/11)

So I was forced to execute my Inspire today. It was rooted, I've tried different roms/radios, flashed rooted stock rom/stock rom. It was never reliable: always dropping service, not receiving/making calls at random times, mms unreliable. I took it back to best buy to try to get it exchanged for a new one. Of course the phone was working flawlessly when I got to the store. The good news is that I had purchased the best buy protection plan for it at $10/month. I had enough of the phone not working reliably for its intended purpose and had to smash it in order to get a new unit. I went back to best buy and turned in the broken phone, and after more than a few suspicious looks from workers-got my phone sent in for repair. Of course it's not going to be repairable (I hit it with my baton , which crushed the screen and phone in the middle), so now I wait a few weeks for my new unit.
My question is, should I cancel my ATT contract and go with a different provider. I loved the actual phone, I just think the ATT "4G" service is horribly unreliable in my area. Or, are there any good Android 3G phones for ATT?
BTW, I am coming from an iPhone 4 before i got the HTC Inspire. iPhone worked awesome, I'm just tired of Apple products.
You can exchange/return your phone within 30 days so why the hell did you "smash" it?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
If you were within the 30 days you had every right to just return it just because you wanted to.
I hope you get it all worked out. GL

I LOL'd when I read that
In my opinion, you have the best android phone AT&T has to offer...and on this thread? I think a lot of people will think the same thing. A lot of us inspire owners are previous captivate owners! That phone REQUIRED tweaking to get it to work smoothly (and for me, to get gps to work)
You could get the atrix, but there's not much tweaking/modding/flashing you can do with it due to a signed bootloader.
yeah, smashing it was a stupid thing to do.
cancelling your at&t contract will cost you a lot of money.
LOL, its crazy that someone has to go to those lenths to return a phone, but its true especially at stores like bestbuy its like ok so u want me to go in parking lot and run over it with my car a few times? then you will exchange it? and if u didnt have a problem with it why would u want a new one? Funny the smashing with baton part though.
^ he said, he was having problems.
i agree with others, you had 30 days to return it, i don't understand why you didn't just do that, and get another phone.

Right on... I also think $10 a month is crazy expensive.
For me, the Inspire has been a dream. Super stable... super fast... and I really haven't felt the need to root it.. yet.

yea, $10 a month is nuts, i only paid $50 for the entire phone!
I don't think any of your understood, lol. Best Buy refused to take it back because it was working fine in front of them. And I did literally say to the kid working there, "So if I take it out in the parking lot and run it over with my truck, you guys will take it back?" He replied, "Do what you gotta do, if you come in tomorrow with a broken phone I'll act like I didn't see you come in today."
BTW I paid full price for the phone ($450ish).
You can return it for ANY reason within 30 days. Doesn't have to be broken.

That's what I was thinking. I didn't want to push the issue and get the manager involved only to deny me getting a new phone. Then, I show up a few days later with a broken phone anyway. I will most likely be buying my next phone at Costco.

Help a noob Day

I'm planning to get the skyrocket. My options are...
1) Buy a no contract unit from AT&T for $600, and root it.
2) Buy a rooted unit for $570 from an online seller.
Now, where I to go with route 2, would I have to contact AT&T to access their LTE? And then tweak the settings?

Well the first route would entail me walking in to a corp store and buying a unit at whatever price they will be selling it to me for since I just got my contract renewed in Feb. I guess in a way I've answered my own query I sppose, better to get the phone unit from AT&T and root it and then delete all the bloatware.

I guess I might as well spend the extra dough and get the unit from AT&T and hope to God I don't frak the unit when I root it.

If you had good payment history in the last 6 months you can just do an exception upgrade and get the phone for $100 over the going sale price... Well if you agree to a new 2yr agreement and a $18 upgrade fee.

This is the most cost effective if you don't care about another few months added to your contract... not many folks know about the exception upgrade program.
Especially good deal if your market sells it at $149. Then you're only paying $249, which is the normal price in some markets.

They will probably have to be ported because us cellular probably uses different frequencies on CDMA/LTE
Sent from my handheld Linux computer using electromagnetic radiation.
Out of curiosity, What build version are you showing in About Phone?
Sch-r930.fc01
That's a different build ID than we have. It's almost certain that new roms would have to be made for the phone.
OTOH, the CWM build we have might work for you, and if so, you would at least be able to get root. I would not be confident enough to tell you that our CWM build will definitely work, though I can't image there would be enough differences to break that.

FYI: The cwm way to root will not work. After flashing all you get is a samsung screen with a lot of lines on it. (Had to take it back to the store for a reflashing).
It would need some changes made, but the differences may be about as much as was required to get Fascinate ROMs ported to the Mez/Showcase. Without comparing the two, it's hard to tell how different they are. Also need source to be released for the kernel to see what is different between the two devices as far as hardware is concerned.

Are we talking manual rooting, or one-click?
Shouldn't all Android be the same or very similar, especially when devices are closely related? I just want to get bloatware off my Aviator to free up space, and the only way I know to do that is with a rooted phone.
There isn't a one-click for this device, and the reports I've heard are that te current techniques for the Charge do not work on the Aviator. There seem to be enough hardware differences to cause issues.

I guess I should have gone with the GS2, but the 4G LTE was too tempting! And the price ($99 after $100 rebate). But now, just 2 days after getting my Aviator, the GS2 is $100 cheaper than it was the day I ordered. Only $179 after $100 rebate. Just my luck... that's the one I really wanted, but was worried about spending too much on "just a phone". Can't even get a proper case for the Aviator yet.

I tried rooting my Aviator and wiped out the OS. Was not bricked but I couldn't get the phone into recovery mode to even try to flash another rom. And the stock rom for it is not released yet from samsung. So I had to have the store swap out another phone for me.
And I can not find anything how to enable the recovery mode anywhere.

The hard "lessons learned" from buying the Droid Charge

Let's see:
Lack of run time memory - check
Bloatware from Samsung and Verizon - check, check
Not able to buy many apps due to lack of memory unless you root the phone - check
Phone that should be recalled because of poorly built charge port - check
Verizon telling Google not to sell tethering software, FCC lawsuit, Verizon pays 1.5 million - check while we can't buy the software until a couple of months ago (legally) - check
Charging $299 and no ICS or JB plus we almost didn't get an upgrade period. Buy the OS that's on the phone and don't believe their promises - check, check, check, and check
Loss of unlimited plan for next phone - check
That's enough checks...I''ve learned my lesson many times over, how about you?

I like my Charge now that I'm able to run Tweaked 3 on it. It was the first 4g smart phone that Samsung put out. It's not perfect but at the time it was better than both the Thunderbolt and the Revolution. Of course all the later phones are better. What do you expect?
Of course it was overpriced. It's an early model. Look at the number of smart phones that have been sold since. A Commodore 64 computer was over $2,000. Look at what you get now for about $500. That's the way of electronics. It's the price we pay for being early adopters.
The only problem I have is terrible data signals at work. But that's a network problem. Verizon is having some trouble trying to implement 4g signal nationwide. That's to be expected. You didn't get ripped off. You just paid the price for being an early adopter.
All I hear is b*tching and moaning. When I bought this phone, it was the best one out. If I had to go back and buy again, I'd still pick this phone.

1. This is on EVERY phone. Have you even been to a Verizon store lately and played with a new one? IT STILL HAS BLOATWARE.
2. This is because most apps are now geared towards much more powerful devices. It's not the end of the world. And if you know about XDA, this shouldn't be a problem.
3. I've seriously never had a problem with this, and even very few on this forum have had an issue. Maybe it's operator error!
4. If this actually affected you, maybe you shouldn't have an android phone. Tethering apps were still very readily available.
5. Again, this was the best device out when it was new. You can't predict the future, so you're taking a gamble when you buy it. Most phones of this era are stuck on GB too. They never made ANY promises.
6. Okay, I have no response to this. It seriously sucks. But that's with EVERY phone, and your thread implies that it's the Charge's fault.

I feel wronged by Verizon because of losing unlimited data too. I was told when I shelled out the $299 for the phone that I would have unlimited data as long as I kept a smart phone on my account. I guess I understand why they've backed out of it. Too many 4g phones using unlimited data plus subsidizing all the new phones would be expensive. But still, they promised me I'd always have unlimited data. If I could get decent signal where I work I could listen to Pandora or stream an occasional Netflix movie and I could use up 2 GB data pretty easy. But as it is I don't use a lot of data. I would if I could. Believe me.
I was checking out the data coverage of the major cellular networks earlier today and it still looks like Verizon is the top dog. The others have quite a bit of catching up to do. I can upgrade on 1/22/12 with the discount. My contract ends in May. We'll see what develops. Since my Charge has become such a cool phone I don't mind using it for a while at all. It's getting a little beat up looking but that awesome Gorilla Glass screen is still in good shape.
It was the best phone at the time
I will say this, even though I listed all of those "issues," unlimited (grand-fathered) LTE made it all worthwhile. I don't regret getting the phone either.
When LTE first came out, it was faster than my home Fios connection. To be able to watch podcasts at work and not worry about the amount of data being used has been awesome. My neighbor cut our Fios line outside and we used the LTE connection as a hotspot for five devices in my house until it was fixed.
But I must admit that until buying this phone, I never would of thought to check the amount of memory utilization on a phone.
I also agree it was the best phone at the time on Verizon.
I can't wait for March and my next phone.

Yeah it's pretty much impossible to look at the new phones without wanting one when the one you have is so seriously under powered. If we weren't able to run a good debloated rom like Tweaked we'd be screwed. The Charge seriously doesn't have enough ram.

At the time I bought this phone, there were two 4G phones choices, and you had the option of a little more power under the hood with the Thunderbolt, or much better battery life (Like. 3X better. The battery life on the Thunderbolt was HORRID) and a better screen with the Droid Charge.
I wish there were more options with ROMs for this phone, but that's literally my only disappointment with it.
That said, my upgrade isn't far off, and I certainly look forward to a new phone, but c'est la vie. It's served me well for almost two years, now.

Yeah there are only a few roms available but Tweaked is awesome. No others are needed.

Yeah it's pretty much impossible to look at the new phones without wanting one when the one you have is so seriously under powered. If we weren't able to run a good debloated rom like Tweaked we'd be screwed. The Charge seriously doesn't have enough ram.

Oh, I agree that it's darn good (And is what I'm running).
But I'd love for AOSP to be available on the phone, so we could move to ICS (And JB, and beyond) instead of being stuck with the whims of Samsung who decided to not upgrade the Charge to ICS because they couldn't also port TouchWiz...
I still miss my charge..Verizon has tried sending nexus and s3 and neither has been as stable as my droid charge was..mind you they send refurbished phones so I understand why I can't get a perfect phone..Verizon insurance is good in the aspect of getting unlimited replacements but almost 95% of what they send is ****..at least I still have my unlimited and on a sketchy ass s3..I will prob be selling this phone in the next month or 2 so I can upgrade

That's a bash of the Verizon CLNR program more than it is the phones. When I had to send my Rezound back, it took 3 tries to get a "like new" replacement that was actually like new. The first replacement had a screen that was lifting completely off the phone. The second replacement's USB port died within 2 weeks. Their "100-point check" is a complete joke.
It took me three Charges to get a working one. First one had a software meltdown, and the second one wouldn't accept a charge. Now this one is having issues with data when on Tweaked (I'm running CM 10 so obviously i don't have data now, but the problems started earlier). Got another year before my upgrade...

I bought my charge as CLNR back in 9/2011 ($100 at the time, I think). still running great, thanks to this community.

AT&T $100 Trade-in Promotion Starting

I just wanted to post this for all of you considering getting a new phone on AT&T, such as the One, S4, Blackberry, etc. According to what I have read, it looks like AT&T is starting a promotion tomorrow that will give an instant $100 or more credit toward a new phone of your choice when you trade in your old working smart phone, ( 3 years old or less). This may help in the decision making process for many people.

It is true. It starts tomorrow May 1st. Bring in any smartphone 3 years and newer in working condition, no cracked screens, etc. and receive $100 towards the purchase of a smartphone $199 or more.

I'm starting to hate AT&T even more. I recently tried to get an early upgrade (60 days away) & was turned down over the phone. It really pissed me off since I've been a long time customer in good standing. Pissed me off so much, I've been considering going to TMO & now they do this to me. Hopefully this last for more than 30 days since they won't budge unless im within 30 days or less.
Can you trade in a rooted and unlocked phone that has been flashed?
I want the S4 pretty badly and I want to trade in my 1 year old HTC One X but I unlocked, rooted and flashed this thing.

So re-lock and unroot it?
You can probably sell the phone for way more on eBay or some other places. It's not worth giving it to att.

Took in my 2 year old gs2 and picked up 100 off the s4. Just reverted to stock from aokp. Dont think it was worth the hassle of selling on ebay.

does anyone know how extensively they check the phone at the store? My phone works perfectly except that for some reason I can't get any service on it. I've tried fixing and troubleshooting for a while but have given up so I'm looking to get back some money for it. So does anyone know if they will check the phone for reception?

I removed the sim from mine and it was at the setup screen (touch the android) and that was it. It was only checked to be sure it would power on and nothing further.

Thanks for the quick responses, I really appreciate it and am glad I'll be able to at least get something for it. Thanks again
Do i need to revert to stock to trade in?
What if I have CM10 running on my GS2? Honestly, they should give me more money for that (because it is more than functional)

I wouldn't think its necessary based on my experience this morning. They just checked to see if it lit up when turned on.
Does anyone know if they would accept a CDMA version of iPhone 4?? I have one sitting around collecting dust. Great condition.

They check the imei/serial number on them. You can check on the website and see if it will work.
