Idol 3 LCD replacement - Onetouch Idol 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

http://m.aliexpress.com/item/32514193484.html
After searching and searching and searching,I've finally found someone selling the idol 3's LCD+touchscreen digitizer. I've personally have not ordered one but plan on doing so within the next few weeks. Hope this helps

Yeah, I was tempted to buy that, because, hah, as you guessed it, my screen broke. I Googled the link, and found only two results, this thread and another thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/ido...esign-flaw-t3138417/post63540992#post63540992 Hell, for 50 something dollars, I'd be willing to pay that if they aren't a scam.
My screen is only cracked, my touch screen doesn't work, but the LCD is fine. I'm tempted to buy this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ido...esign-flaw-t3138417/post63540992#post63540992
Does this include the outter glass, or just the digitizer plstic? It doesn't look very glass to me.

It is the outer glass and digitizer, also if you search on eBay (idol 3 LCD) several sellers are offering them for around 90$

Interesting. Can you tell me the difference between these two? Why is one so much cheaper than the other?

The cheaper one is for the 4.7 inch variant and the 91$ one is for the 5.5 inch variant

I know this is a bit of an old thread, but I figured I'd post in it, since I posted in it before due to my phone breaking. But wow. So, I sent my phone out last Friday, because the screen was cracked, and digitizer was dead. They got the phone on Monday, I was expecting them to email me how much it would cost. I got an email on Tuesday that they shipped my phone back to me. I figured, something happened with my warranty, and I got my phone just now, and they just fixed everything for free.
I'm just wow, shocked. Did I get lucky?

I have a similar issue, not nearly as bad as yours tho, mines only shows when the screen is lit and has a black background, its invisible with all other colors so I haven't made an issue of it

Yes,you should send it for repairs at the official repair shop.
You didnt cause that problem with the screen,so there shouldnt be any fee.
If they try to make you pay, cause them trouble because that is a faulty device, not a device broken by YOU.

That looks like hardware damage so I don't think that there is anything you can do about it beyond RMA and screen replacement...
Looks like the red channel is dead. Time for RMA.
Try a factory reset, if that fails, claim on home insurance and replace it

That would not work for me. My homeowners has a $500 deductible.
Well if there is no visible signs of a drop then just RMA and say you have no idea, it was working fine and suddenly the display messed up
Best way to RMA things is to act stupid and have no clue what they are talking about
Do the same with your Dad, if he doesnt know already, just make out like you have not touched it and get him to RMA

Wow, like the TF is on acid. I think your only option is to send it to Asus and see how much they want for a fix.
Overall, I am really surprised how fragile these things are. I drop my phones constantly and never see the kind of problems people are posting here. I know that, because it's a larger screen, there's less support, but still...

Not to mention that most insurances like to drop you after your first claim on homeowners.
Although stories like this make me think it might be worth the $49 for a 1 year accidental damage deal... I have 28 days left to decide.

So your recommending this kid lie to his dad. Nice. And people wonder why companies are becoming a pain when it becomes to fixing legitimate issues.

i got mine from whole sale gadget parts, i am able to return it, but i was hoping it was fixable but after this other picture i would say not lol. only thing im worried about is that when i send it back i might have to send my full assembly. when i ordered the screen i thought i was getting the full assembly but it was just the screen and digitizer and so i called and the guy said it should have been the full and he would make sure it was on there next order they get. so fingers crossed on that one, because i taped the screen in pretty good lol.

got mine from xcrater because everyone else was out of stock at the time. it looked legit enough with a maltese cross in the logo and an English website, I didn't figure the Chinese would use a Maltese cross. but the seller is in China and they seem to have turned the return process into a negotiation, they even asked me to cancel the PayPal dispute before the whole thing was properly handeled. believe when this is over I'm posting a thread with details, email records ands sending them the link so they might think twice about how they handle business.
alsoi have that same dark spot but mine is in the upper left corner and its a lot bigger. I don't have the random total screen darkness though.

Got my replacement One X from Amazon...but it looks like this.

I mean I know it's a very small blemish...but it's not fair that I'm sending them back a 100% perfect condition phone and the replacement they send comes cracked out of the box? (not to mention had finger prints on the camera lens...maybe was a refurb?)
I returned my first One X for wifi issues, it will say I'm connected to wifi full strength but the web won't load at all...however if I turn off wifi and turn it back on it will work again for a few hours or minutes.
I'm now having the same problem with this One X plus I'm pissed they sent a cracked one.
Do you think they'll replace a replacement? I asked for a replacement on my 30th day so it's passed the 30 days now from my original order. Also I feel like they won't believe it was shipped out like that. They're closed atm so I'll have to call tomorrow and figure it out. What do you guys think I should do or what they will do?
Yeah, I would complain. **** that.
Definitely call back and let them know. I'm pretty sure they will send another. Especially since your having issues with the replacement as well.
Sent from my HTC One X
yeah the crack is a crack not a blemish. I would raise hell. as far as wifi, did you try the squeeze test? also was it doing that on different routers or just the one?
Yeah I'm not sure if it's the customs fault at this because correct me if I'm wrong but they check each phone individually before letting them through.
My replacement came in with a blue blemish on the corner but I was able to wipe it off with some of my sailva and shirt lol.

our phone is not the same as the international version, meaning the antennae is not on the cover anymore, if you take apart your phone, you will see that. It does not have any connectors so that test is useless.
Good to know my chances of getting another replacement are good! I'm pretty sure the crack was from their shipping. They sent the HTC One X box in another box that was just slightly larger...with absolutely NO packing material. Not even brown paper. It was just shaking around in there. Never had such poor shipping like that on a new phone before.
And both this phone and my last one I tried the squeeze test...didn't change anything...I was getting good reception with Wifi Analyzer on both phones without squeezing...it just eventually cuts off and won't work till I restart wifi. Happens on multiple different routers.
I am a bit bummed though. Battery life on this one was literally almost TWICE as good as my first One X. I had it for 30 days and pretty much ALWAYS got 2 hours of on screen time exactly. The first day with this replacement phone I had about 9 hours of use and 50% battery left which was about normal for my first phone...then I saw that the on screen time was 2 hours and 20 minutes! I can get about 3-4 hours on screen now with this replacement. Hopefully the next one is crack free + another good battery!

Also I suspect if you hold off on it they will probably not accept it back because how do they know if you cracked it or if it was something from shipping?

Here is a tear down of the phone.
Its not easy to fix and the parts are going to be hard to source because of limited production.
I already received a reply. 147€ total cost including shipping to get it repaired.

Did you hear back from them. I also dropped my phone 2 weeks back.
My guess is it's going to be in the range of $200, which is half the cost.
Do you know of any other place where the repairs can happen.

That isn't that bad for a replacement from the manufacturer. It's not a repair you send them your broken phone and they send you a new one. I would pay that if I smashed mine.

The same thing just occurred me, I have only had my phone for a week and I have sent a couple of customer services tickets without a response yet its probably only been a day or so. Here is an image of the damage I think. Does everyone get a new phone when the request an RMA of this type or do they repair it. I really hope I get a Brand New one. Thanks.

No presents!
If someones screen is cracked the repair costs are higher than the price of a new device!
To replace the screen is also hardly possible. Check ifixit on that!
Shipping to Chine comes on top.
If someone will sell a broken One for a fair price, just poke me!

so its better to get a brand new phone rather than get one thats damaged to be fixed.

I'm only two weeks past my one year warranty period so I decided to email Samsung about it. I described the exact issue with a photo and sent it off last night. I got a reply back this morning, not even 12hrs later on a weekend with what was almost an automated response back. The person or robot on the other end didn't read or understand my issue and responded back with a typical copy and paste customer response. I provided the picture you see below and they replied...
Thank you for contacting Samsung Customer Care.
I see that there is a dot on the screen and you would like to fix the issue.
I am sorry to know about and I do understand your concern.
If you are using any screen protector, please remove it and check for the results.
In case if the issue persists, it need to be examined with the authorized service technician.

They then go on about if it's under warranty do this and if not do that when their form asks for a purchase date and they know if it's still warrantied. Is it so hard to actually get in touch with someone who cares more than simply creating another statistic.
I'm sad that my phone self destructed and I'm sad that Samsung customer service stinks.
Delaminate? Maybe I'm reading the photo wrong but it looks like some deep scratches to me.
No scratches, the digitizer is delaminating from the glass.

And what proves that?
It was shown to a Samsung service tech... same issue as this one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/problem-screen-t2231143 and it's almost that long now.
But hey, thanks for the moral support, it's been great defending my post. I'm already in the dumps so I thought posting here and making it worse would be a good idea.
Defensive much?

Not really. It's not as if anyone suggested you were lying.
Anyway, I'm unsure where you got the idea that you're two weeks past your warranty period, Samsung phones come with a 24 month warranty, and as the Note 3 was only released 13 months ago, you're pretty much guaranteed to have this fixed by them if what you're suggesting is the fault is true. They can only do so much with a photo, you need to send the handset to them.

That's just for us, because the EU enforces the 24 months warranty period to protect customers.
He's from Canada, and they only get 12 months.
Christ, that must be annoying.
Here's what it looks like today. Correct on only 12 months warranty but the service fella that I spoke with may help me out. Going to see him tomorrow, fingers crossed.
I can confirm this problem, cause a friend of me have the same problem on his Note 3.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Sorry couldnt resist..same thing happened to my s3 exactly 2 years after purchase, its like the gel filler underneath the glass starts to breakdown, then air gets in and the real problems begin. Quite scary really. You can replace the digitizer and glass but they are never the same again.

Lol
It has been quite the interesting ordeal. I watched it go from a tiny thing to what you see in the last pic. Seems as though it changes every few hours or so.
Would screen protectors and the such help prevent bthis problem? Or is it something that is naturally bound to happen to the device?

Negative, this is an internal issue and as such cannot be helped by exterior cosmetic protection. If this starts to happen you're pretty much fu*ked as far as saving or preventing it goes. Best thing to do is send it back to Samsung or if your warranty is up, repair it through 3rd party.

Well s**t. I know that this is an internal issue but do we know if there's anything that accelerates this process or that increases the chances of this happening? Better yet, do we know about ways to delay it better yet to prevent it? I want my phone to last somewhat longer than 2 years!

I'm guessing there aren't ways to prevent it directly, just looking after your phone properly, not dropping it, not leaving it in open arid environments (like around seawater for example). As far as I am aware this isn't a widely reported issue, and has never been isolated to just Samsung but seems Samsung has the most issues (though still quite rare). Maybe it is a manufacturing fault at some point with a minority of handsets.
