ZOMBi-POP OMNI KANG RC1 - wireless with ! - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi all,
I installed the latest ZOMBi-POP OMNI KANG RC1 on my TF700T and first let me say so far its awesome! fast! great so far. I do have one issue I can't figure out. The wireless has an ! on the icon and I can't reach anything on the internet. I do have an IP but I don't think it has a route or access to the DNS. I tried dropping to a terminal and pinging cnn.com but nothing comes up. Someone posted this question before but I never seen a real answer except to maybe downgrade TWRP to KANG recommened version (which it does say) and if I go to TWRP they no longer offer the older version I would expect to see.
Thanks for the assistance!
Andy

Reflash the rom with a different kernel. One of them had this problem, can't remember which...
Go for the Omni kernel. Works great

Tried all except TF201
I tried all the available kernels but they all do the same thing. I remember someone mentioning its the recovery causing the issue (which sounds odd to me). If so what version should I use and where can I download it? I tried going to the TWRP website but there aren't many version available anymore.

Hya gang... Same story here. I have Crombi KK as my internal rom and works good, but looking boost the speed and I/O power so I can run Microsoft Word and multitask between documents. I suspect the answer was to put Zonbi on an External ROM 2 SD. So I have done so with the ! on the WiFi signal. I ran the "chineese fix" in the terminal and got rid of the ! but not the problem. So I wanted to post and get msyelf back into the thread to seek any advice or suggestions. I will try loading the other kernels, but I read above that didnt solve the problem for Andy.
Ill update as I try the upload.

DNS/Route?
The wireless works, I get an IP but I can't reach anything. It seems to me there is a route issue or the DNS server information is not getting populated. I'm not familiar with phone based Linux OS's so I'm not sure where they store these settings. In most normal OS's it would be /etc/resolv.conf, /etc/nsswitch.conf and ifcfg-NIC. I guess I need to read up a bit on the layout of the OS.

Can you ping the IP address of your router (internal and external?)
The DNS servers are stored in some properties, you can run getprop to get them.

Weird! try it!
Ok, so yesterday I went back to the kernel I was using in the beginning but after I flash I decided to plug it in to charge it some more so I can play further. The tablet rebooted and sat at the select wireless network for about a day (I got sidetracked). I put the password in a few minutes ago and everything worked! Maybe after the rom is installed you just need to leave it alone for 15 minutes before even entering the wireless information?? Maybe this is what they meant it needs 15 minutes to get through everything before they suggest using it....even entering you wireless info. Try it. Maybe it had something to do with the charging of it? either way it works now I'm a happy camper.

So far so good....
I'm loving the rom so far! very nice. So can anyone suggest a kernel if you are using ROM2SD? I'm using that12 so far. Also, is there a real benefit for going to F2FS vs EXT4? noticable difference? I use EXT4 and XFS for all my Redhat/CentOS installs so I'm more familiar.

[Q] WiFi calling on EaglesBlood - seems to be stuck...?

I just fresh flashed to EaglesBlood
WiFi calling seems to be stuck. It says "enabling" but it's stuck on this forever.
I did a reset (just in case) - didn't fix it
any thoughts?
Thanks!!!
Wifi calling is notoriously bad. It will work fine for some and barely ever work for others. My completely stock 2.3.3 had the same problem time and time again, as does my phone in its current setup. I believe the problem is external.

Thank you. That's so odd, during the night (did you notice XDA was down for maintenance?) i switched to Weapon ROM and the WiFi issue persists. Yet my wife's phone, the Vibrant, stock rom of course, does the WiFi thing every time and right on the money. Damn it LG!
I think I remember reading that it was having trouble switching DNS servers when needed or something along those lines. I found plenty of feedback on these forums if you want to do a quick search and see if you can dig anything up.
(Yeah, I noticed the forums went down for a bit. I was in the middle of something at the time and really needed links!)

[Q] WiFi not working on T959V after ICS update

First of all I would like to say I appreciate all the work that the XDA forums has been doing, and I am pleased to see that the community is as strong, if not, stronger since the last time that I have been here a couple years ago. The questions, answers, feedback and help, let alone for the Samsung Galaxy S 4G released by T-Mobile in February of 2011, is amazing. These forums have really helped people make the most out of their device, and had it not exist, this Galaxy S in my hand would have been long forgotten by Samsung, and the Gingerbread stock ROM that I was given with would be my home. It reminded me of how much I had missed messing with these android devices; nothing like jailbreaking and installing cydia on my iPhone. The experience is not the same. Anyways...
Pulling out my T959V from its box I decided it was time to finally install ICS on it after Samsung have let these great device fade away.
I installed ICS last night and stayed up searching for kernels and testing out different ROMS some slow and many faster than others and decided that Cyanogen 9 was the best looking and performance-wise ROM on the phone in my opinion. Considering that all other ROMS base it on the nightly builds extra stuff was just junk, considering this phone only has one processor. So I upgraded from Gingerbread 2.3.6 and I've tried many different kernels and everything works except WiFi. It can not even search for one network no matter how many times I press "Scan". I'd appreciate all the help I can get.
Thanks

I'd check the MD5 of the CM9 DL and make sure it's a match. I haven't heard of anyone else having that issue. Also make sure you DL the latest CM9. If the MD5 matches format system, wipe cache/dalvik and flash again. Reboot an let it sit for five minutes then try wifi.

Yeah I've checked the MD5 sums of the zip packages after download. This is so bizarre, and the CM9 is not the only ROM I've tried. I've tried about 4 or 5 of them and different kernels as well and all of them do not connect to WiFi. I have formatted system, and always wiped any trace of the prior ROM before installing. Plus, I have tried the method where I would boot to recovery and "fix permissions". No good.
I would use a heimdall one click go back to stock kj6 then flash up to cm9. Sounds like you have some bugs that will only get squashed by going back to stock. IMO I would flash bootloaders too. Just so it overwrites EVERYTHING.

I just used the Stock KJ6 + Root with the Blastoff v2 kernel integrated, flashed, flashed again and installed boot-loaders as well. Phone restarted, went to WiFi, checked it, and it says "Error". Now I'm going to flash it to true stock using Odin rather than the .jar executable no luck so far and I don't know whats going on.

Sounding more and more like a hardware issue. Wifi and bluetooth are on the same chip so if your still on stock try and turn on BT. If it turns on it might not be the chip. If it gives the same error I'd bet money on a bad chip.
This would be a good time for logcat and dmesg...

Bluetooth works fine, WiFi just wont turn on. Its not a hardware issue, and WiFi was working the same day before I flashed to ICS
Done use stock + blastoff that is a stepping stone one click for people to go back to stock then either flash another gb rom or ics rom. Wifi is broken because of the new wifi module used. I never meant for it to be used as a daily driver. Use the heimdall one click bhundven has posted in his one click thread.
@mkho30
I had the same exact Wi-Fi issue a few months ago. I tried everything you tried and what members are suggesting in this thread.
I also asked about this issue on irc (Team Acid) and was told by Bryan that ICS (if I remember correctly) doesn't support WPS button connection. I assumed it was "on my end" and not ROM related.
Bryan suggested that I reboot my router. I had done that several times before asking. I didn't even know you could log in to your router to reconfigure it so he suggested that I Google to learn.
Long story short. I googled and read allot. I reconfigured my router many different ways. I disabled my WPS button connection and reset my router many times. I changed the security every way possible. I even set up a guest network.. the ONLY way I was able to connect to my Wi-Fi network was if I disabled the security COMPLETELY.
That wasn't an option for me. I live in an apartment building and I have seen people in the halls with laptops using their neighbors Wi-Fi.
I tried everything for a couple of months and finally went back to Gingerbread last weekend.
Sorry I can't be of any help with this reply. I just wanted to share my experience and let you know that you aren't the only one that has this issue...man I miss ICS. I didn't have an issue with the battery after "I settled in" Hopefully we can find out what is going on with us.
Btw. I'm back on Gingerbread and I connect to Wi-Fi with no problems.

I tried that several times FB. During my searching I came across a thread (one of those answers sites) that gave your answer as a fix.
I REALLY did my do diligence in trying to get connected. I hadn't seen anyone else with this problem until today so I spent hours trying WPA2 and other configurations. I thought WPA2 would fix it for sure because that was what I had read so I kept trying it. It never worked for me. The only thing that did was having no encryption at all..I started to think that it was a "Black Ice Voodoo thing" lol. Remember how some users, no matter what they did, could never flash Black Ice Voodoo?
Btw the error I always got was an Authentication error.
Thanks for replying
If you're up for it and your router is supported, try OpenWRT. It really sounds like a router issue.

Sorry. I don't use a pc at work. I have to sneak on xda using my phone and they don't like seeing is on our phones for to long.
I forgot to mention in my reply to the OP that I DIDN'T have a problem scanning for Wi-Fi access. I could do that. I just couldn't connect without getting an Authentication Error. My phone would scan, connect, then discontent and give me the error.
I've had the exact same authentication error, scans, asks for password, tries to connect, then errors out, usually always after flashing CM9 and either a reinstall (recopying to my SDcard too) or a fix permissions have fixed it.
ALSO, this is very important. FORGET the connections in your wifi list after doing the fix permissions. IT WILL NOT connect to a saved connection. Reboot to recovery, fix permissions (don't use a tool within android), goto wifi, click on the connection and choose forget, then choose the connection again and try that.

I will try this. I have done much of what you have stated here maybe even all of it before. But not in the order you describe.. I'd really like to go back to ICS. I had 4G on it (home) where I used to get 3G on Gingerbread. Also at home I needed Wi-Fi calling on Gingerbread but on ICS I had great reception.
@jeff. I just googled OpenWRT and I should have before I said I'll try it when I get home lol. OpenWRT might be to much for me right now.
Thank you for all your help people. I'll update you as soon as I can. I must go sailing now. It's Red Flag!

[Q] Cyanogenmod wifi

I just want to first thank everyone who worked on getting cyanogenmod to work on the jellybean boot loader. There is a problem that i am seeing though through the threads that wifi seems to not turn on. Unfortunately i have the same problem, i have had it for both the modified version on the 30th and still have it on the official version out the 31st. Has anyone else had this problem or even any vague idea as to the problem causing?
Wish I was posting with help I just wanted to cosign that I've also been going through the same thing from yesterday's unofficial to today's rom with turning the wifi on and having the tablet freeze. Hoping it can be worked out looking forward to using cm10 as soon as possible
I can confirm that i am still having the same wifi issues with the 11-01 official version.
I also had wifi issues initially, disable the wifi sleep policy and reboot, it would work afterwards.

for what it's worth I tried this but after the reboot I still ended up with the same problem, I think I'll just stick with cleanrom for now it's been running more than well enough
I updated to 11-2 and still no fix but I think I have come across something. I don't know if it just me but for some reason the wifi region in advanced is set to Europe. I try to switch it to US but never seems to save it. Am I the only one?

I don't have the issue. I have done this twice for each rom stock, cleanrom, jb hydro and I have wifi and gps. I'm using Twrp.
wipe cache, Dalvik, Factory Reset, System ( you must flash a rom now ) so be absolutely sure you have one available.
flash cm10
reboot
boot recovery
flash gapps
reboot
This didn't fail in a total of six tries. GPS is slow and not many sats but it does work.
Once I was stuck on bootanimation. I forced power down by holding power till screen went black. Power up and booted properly.
I miss spoke on the above when I listed gps - checking my notes and reflashing, gps does not work on nightly for me; it does work on the other cm10 jb for me. Sorry! Wifi does work on both.
DANG!! As of 11/3 version, I still have wifi issues. I have flashed back when there was no CM10 and have done exactly above and still cant get no reception. I still think that the region in advanced settings have something to do with it.

I'm sorry to hear that. I had hoped the problem was the difference in the way we handled wiping and flashing. I don't understand why my unit works and yours doesn't. I don't remember anything else I did that may have made a difference but I'll download 11-3 and try again.
I'll report with that status in a bit.:good:
I was on cleanrom, flashed 11-3 as above and have wifi. I wish we knew how to isolate this problem, I'll do some searching and look at some of my logs and dmesg. There must be an answer why some units work and others don't.
When you try to turn wifi on does it turn on and stay turned on or does it refuse to turn on?
I checked my region settings and they were set Europe, I changed to US just for fun but no difference in use. I have read in the US they are restricted to channels 1 - 11 instead of 1 - 14, maybe that is one of the reasons for that option.
I was on cleanrom 2.5 before also. Had no problems with it but wanted to see if CM10 was any better. What happens is that after i flash CM10, when you first start a tablet from scratch, it will search for wifi and say in the middle of the screen "Turning wifi on" and will stay that way. So i eventually have to skip it to go on to the Home screen. When I go back later in settings to wifi, says the same thing and sometimes crashes. When I go back to clean rom or original stock, have no problems.

No, I'm afraid not.
The last thing I can think of that could be different between our situations is your wifi.
I must begin by telling you my wifi router is an antique so I don't have some of the newer features.
This is a fishing trip. Take the little info I provide and try to use it to investigate your situation.
My router provides a table where I can list mac addresses of units I have programmed and only these are allowed access, even if they have the correct password, etc.
Some of the newer units have a button that automatically looks for units and self programs the router security features and any change made since the button was last pressed. If you have such then try to sync your unit again with cm10, otherwise look carefully through your router security options and see if anything stands out that may be different than with stock rom.
I know mac addresses and such are factory programmed but they can be spoofed and on units other than asus do sometimes change with rom.
For instance if I go to google play my TF300 shows as two different unit names.
Asus ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T
Asus Transformer Pad TF300T
That is enough difference to possibly cause your router to deny access.
None of this may apply but it is worth a try.
Good Luck!
wifi issues too
I am having same problem. tried 11-06 nightly and wifi will not even turn on. Tried other nightlies, same deal. Can't understand why not happening to all units. If anyone figures it out, let us know. I really want to try CM10! I think this is being discussed on the developers forum on the CM10 for JB thread as well.

11/06 and 11/07 are both broken for me as well. I saw a post by untermensch ( I think ) in the nightly thread where he was pushing some of his work for use in cm10. Maybe in a day or two everyone will have wifi.
I have read you can flash his kernel after setting up cm10 and get wifi. I have not tried that and if a fix comes soon I probably won't.
What I have done is flash his TF300T kernel over CleanRom and it is faster and smoother. I am not over clocking, using balanced mode.
Sorry I don't have any other thoughts at this time.
Good Luck to us all!

I tried the last couple nightlies and still no wifi capability. Tried a rom based on CM10, still a no go. SO, using cleanROM for now, it seems to work very well for me. I wonder why CM10 works for some and not others? Is there a difference in the hardware from unit to unit?
Wifi works again on nightlies 11/09
I still don't have gps.

[Q][ROM2SD] Dual boot SD card ROM freezing

I have been testing ROMs on my SD card using _that's method from here as well as the built in ROM2SD install from the CROMI-X installer.
Everything was working great using CM10.2 until a few days ago when my TF700 became unresponsive after 5-10 minutes whenever I was running on the SD card mounted ROM. (It had been working fine for about a week of steady use). When it becomes unresponsive, it doesn't register any screen touches nor do any hardware keys work. The only way to recover is with a hard reset (holding the power button for a while even though pressing once has no effect). Decided to see if it was something related to CM10.2 so I reformatted the SD card and installed CROMI-X to the SD card using the CROMI-X installer... used it for a little bit and got the same problem.
I'm back to using the internal ROM and have no issues.
Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be a problem with the SD card itself (I'm using gparted to format and the card appears to function normally in other devices...)? I don't think it's a kernel issue as I'm using _that-v7 both internally and on the SD ROM (either through the CROMI-X installer or with the modified rom2sd2.zip from _that's dual boot thread).
Anyways, any advice or theories would be appreciated. I'd post in the original dual-boot thread but as a serial lurker/flasher I don't have enough posts to participate in the dev thread.
I could have written your post....
I had EXACTLY the same setup, progression and result.
No idea for a solution though.... But doesn't it feel good not to be alone?
You'll need to provide a logcat for a proper diagnosis otherwise we are guessing
But my guess will be your sdcard is not up to the task. What type of card is it?

Maybe. The microSD interface in the TF700 is known to be unreliable, at least in combination with certain cards. It was even worse with old ICS kernels.

I have what everybody else has: Scandisk Ultra class 10 formatted with Gparted.
I think I have the last installation still on the card. I'll give it a shot and try to capture a logcat, but that could be a looooooong logcat - if I remember correctly both CM and CROMi-X ran fine for a few days and then froze without warning. Not much fun using the tablet with a computer attached to it

You'll need to provide a logcat for a proper diagnosis otherwise we are guessing
But my guess will be your sdcard is not up to the task. What type of card is it?

I'm also using a 32GB SanDisk ultra UHS Class 1 (the red and grey one) formatted with gparted.
As for the logcat, I haven't been able to get my tablet working over adb since I moved to windows 8.1 but I will be messing around with that today so hopefully I'll have something later.

adb works fine in Windows 8.1. Use these drivers here:

Ok, got adb up and running. The full logcat is attached. I used the most verbose logging and the last responsive thing I was able to do was go into settings and attempt to keep wifi on in the low power settings (this occurs at 11:12:34.489 in the log). The tablet obviously saves this setting however the screen fails to update or register input after this point and actually continues to highlight the check box for that setting option as if I was continually touching it. I let the tablet run for a while to see if it was just laggy, but it failed to respond for over ten minutes... Anyways, let me know what you think and I'll be happy to test any theories.
(as a side note, you'll probably notice my wifi continually disconnecting and reconnecting, but my tablet has done that since I purchased it so it's probably unrelated).
I haven't been able to reproduce the freeze yet. Ran the tablet on rom2sd for more than an hour with all kinds of apps, Netflix, Quadrant etc - works like a charm.
I did format the ext4 partitions before installing rom2sd (yet again). Maybe I finally got it right?

Possibly but like that said we've had this issue with some cards since data2sd days. If it does happen again, grab a logcat and post it up. I bet it will report file system errors.

Will have a proper look later, but on first glance your tab seems to have real difficulties staying connected to your router.

Haha... Yea that's an understatement... Think it's actually a router/generic android problem as my gs4 and my roommate's gs4 and tablet all have problems staying connected at home and on other networks they work fine.
Appreciate you taking the time to check this out and love all the work you do.

I'd solve the router issues first - it might be the root cause. Either reboot it or reset it, use WiFi analyser to get a good channel. If that doesn't work kill it and get a decent one.
Hmmm never thought that would be anything more than an annoyance, but it's a good idea. I'll bring my tab to work Monday and see if it freezes there where I know the network is reliable.

It's just there are so many log entries related to wifi and connections.......
well, used the tab on the office wifi for several hours with no freezes and brought it home where it froze after about 10 minutes.
Looks like the router is the culprit which means I now have an excuse to buy a new one...

Sounds like a good idea. Unlessnit is really old try resetting it first.

[Q] KatKiss Rom - Wifi DL speed issue

I'm back in love with my Transformer since installing KatKiss Rom. However, my download speed is about 1/10th of what it should be. When running the speedtest.net app I'm getting about 3.7Mbps download and upload was the normal (for me) 10Mbps. My dl speed should be closer to at least 40-45 Mbps. I've search for similar issues however have only been able to see problems people have with the inability to actually connect. I can connect to the network/Internet with not problem there. It's just my dl speed is significantly slower than it should be.
Any ideas or suggestions on resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
Sorry, forgot to add, I'm running KatKiss 4.4.4_32b
Settings > WiFi > Advanced > WiFi Regulatory Domain
Make sure it is set to the correct part of the world for you

Thanks for the reply but I had already checked that. Besides, if that was set incorrectly, wouldn't that prevent any connections at all? My problem isn't a connection issue. It is a speed issue.
Try KK #33, maybe it has been fixed since 32b
Im running #33 and have no speed issues

I was thinking of doing that however I was hoping there was another option. I thought it was funny that my Transformer hasn't already informed me that there was an update available. Oh well. I'll try and get to it sometime this weekend. Unfortunately, homework takes priority. Only 10 more weeks until I graduate with my BSIT!!
Generally only stock ROMs get OTA updates, Custom ROMs need updating manually, iirc back in the days, one of the custom ROM devs did manage to get OTA updates running with his custom ROMs, but never seen that again for years
Need to keep checking the dev thread for new custom ROMs, everything is manual apart from app updates
Good luck with your BSIT

Well, tried to upgrade to v33 but still no go. Wifi speed is still about a 10th of what it should be. I'm definitely connected but not very fast. Also, I forgot to mention it in my previous posts but the auto-rotate function doesn't work either. It will open apps in the orientation that the app needs but will not switch between land and port when rotated on the home screen.
I'm going to try an earlier version (4.4.2 v26) because I've read that this might fix the auto-rotate issue at least.
Still lovin the Rom...just a couple hiccups that need to be ironed out.

Well, installing KatKiss Rom 4.4.2 v26 didn't resolve either issue. Anyone have any other ideas? TIA
Have you seen faster speeds than that with the TF101 before?
You'll likely only connect at around 65Mbps with the TF
With a Wireless G 54Mbps you get about 20-30Mbps because of overheads (Encryption etc)
That results in around 2-3MB/s real world download speeds
So with 65Mbps, you won't see a great deal more than that
Plus those speedtest apps are pretty crappy if Im honest, best to download something you get good speeds on your PC from, and test it on the TF

I was using the Speedtest.net app. Same one I use on all my computers and devices. I'm at work by my wife has the same tablet as I do however her's isn't rooted and has the original OS. I'll test her Wifi speed to be sure I'm reporting correctly. I'm pretty sure I am though. :cyclops:
I'll report what my wife's native T101 Wifi speed is later tonight.

Just tested my wife's stock, unrooted T101 Wifi speed and it is running well over 35 Mbps. 10 times faster than my T101 using the same router, same room, etc.
I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Status update:
I've tried two different Recoveries (CWM & TWRP) and two different ROMs (KatKiss and OmniROM). All have installed with no problems however I still haven't resolved the slow download speed issue. I'm still baffled as to why my upload speed is normal. Side by side comparison with my wife's non-rooted stock TF101 in the same room had normal download speeds which were 10 times as fast as my TF101.
Any other ideas I can explore?
Using 4.4.4_034 in the US I had to choose "EMEA & rest of world" to get 36Mb/s.
This amazing WiFi app might not help you now, but it could down the road: http://surl.im/PkSQn

Bit of a strange one indeed, you could try changing router settings just in case, change the wireless channel to a clearer one, as above use WiFi Analyser to check the best channel to use
Other options would be to clear the DHCP pool on the router, forcing all devices to reconnect on a new IP
On the tablet side, you could try setting a static IP instead of using DHCP
Try a different DNS server, not that it should affect the download speed, but 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 are Googles public DNS servers
(Gateway is the IP of your router)
Solved - Still not sure why though.
I've somehow solved my download speed issue. I took my tablet to work and discovered that my WiFi speeds were what they should be so I knew it wasn't a device issue. Brought it back home and connected to my home wireless and found my speed issue was miraculously fixed. I'm still not sure why but I'm guessing something was reset or timed out in the router to where the tablet was now a new device. I don't know why removing the device from the network for a few hours would have a different effect than a manual reboot of the router. I guess I'll keep this in my bag of network troubleshooting tricks for the future.
Pleased you got it sorted
