I have been testing ROMs on my SD card using _that's method from here as well as the built in ROM2SD install from the CROMI-X installer.
Everything was working great using CM10.2 until a few days ago when my TF700 became unresponsive after 5-10 minutes whenever I was running on the SD card mounted ROM. (It had been working fine for about a week of steady use). When it becomes unresponsive, it doesn't register any screen touches nor do any hardware keys work. The only way to recover is with a hard reset (holding the power button for a while even though pressing once has no effect). Decided to see if it was something related to CM10.2 so I reformatted the SD card and installed CROMI-X to the SD card using the CROMI-X installer... used it for a little bit and got the same problem.
I'm back to using the internal ROM and have no issues.
Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be a problem with the SD card itself (I'm using gparted to format and the card appears to function normally in other devices...)? I don't think it's a kernel issue as I'm using _that-v7 both internally and on the SD ROM (either through the CROMI-X installer or with the modified rom2sd2.zip from _that's dual boot thread).
Anyways, any advice or theories would be appreciated. I'd post in the original dual-boot thread but as a serial lurker/flasher I don't have enough posts to participate in the dev thread.
I could have written your post....
I had EXACTLY the same setup, progression and result.
No idea for a solution though.... But doesn't it feel good not to be alone?
You'll need to provide a logcat for a proper diagnosis otherwise we are guessing
But my guess will be your sdcard is not up to the task. What type of card is it?

Maybe. The microSD interface in the TF700 is known to be unreliable, at least in combination with certain cards. It was even worse with old ICS kernels.

What utility are you using to partition and or format the sdcard??

I have what everybody else has: Scandisk Ultra class 10 formatted with Gparted.
I think I have the last installation still on the card. I'll give it a shot and try to capture a logcat, but that could be a looooooong logcat - if I remember correctly both CM and CROMi-X ran fine for a few days and then froze without warning. Not much fun using the tablet with a computer attached to it

I'm also using a 32GB SanDisk ultra UHS Class 1 (the red and grey one) formatted with gparted.
As for the logcat, I haven't been able to get my tablet working over adb since I moved to windows 8.1 but I will be messing around with that today so hopefully I'll have something later.

adb works fine in Windows 8.1. Use these drivers here:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=22962010882834442
Ok, got adb up and running. The full logcat is attached. I used the most verbose logging and the last responsive thing I was able to do was go into settings and attempt to keep wifi on in the low power settings (this occurs at 11:12:34.489 in the log). The tablet obviously saves this setting however the screen fails to update or register input after this point and actually continues to highlight the check box for that setting option as if I was continually touching it. I let the tablet run for a while to see if it was just laggy, but it failed to respond for over ten minutes... Anyways, let me know what you think and I'll be happy to test any theories.
(as a side note, you'll probably notice my wifi continually disconnecting and reconnecting, but my tablet has done that since I purchased it so it's probably unrelated).
I haven't been able to reproduce the freeze yet. Ran the tablet on rom2sd for more than an hour with all kinds of apps, Netflix, Quadrant etc - works like a charm.
I did format the ext4 partitions before installing rom2sd (yet again). Maybe I finally got it right?

Possibly but like that said we've had this issue with some cards since data2sd days. If it does happen again, grab a logcat and post it up. I bet it will report file system errors.

Haha... Yea that's an understatement... Think it's actually a router/generic android problem as my gs4 and my roommate's gs4 and tablet all have problems staying connected at home and on other networks they work fine.
Appreciate you taking the time to check this out and love all the work you do.

I'd solve the router issues first - it might be the root cause. Either reboot it or reset it, use WiFi analyser to get a good channel. If that doesn't work kill it and get a decent one.
Hmmm never thought that would be anything more than an annoyance, but it's a good idea. I'll bring my tab to work Monday and see if it freezes there where I know the network is reliable.

It's just there are so many log entries related to wifi and connections.......
well, used the tab on the office wifi for several hours with no freezes and brought it home where it froze after about 10 minutes.
Looks like the router is the culprit which means I now have an excuse to buy a new one...

I got the update and it went smooth, but I noticed my wifi was connecting and the keyboard was very unresponsive, so I went into setting and I got force closes - one after another, for everything... launcher, Wifi settings, the settings app, any app I launch and everything is so slow . Right now I'm looking at another launcher force close and I can't do anything without it causing more epic crashes
Thanks ASUS, but this sucks.
P.S. WTF with the new cursor!!!!

Great. This update screwed me so bad that it won't even let me copy my sdcard data to an external drive so I can wipe this this clean and start over... I really need that data off the device!!
An adapter for the sd card is cheap. Just remove it and plug it into adapter and adapter into a pc or Mac

Have you powered down and then powered back on? Everything was crashing on mine, but once I turned it completely off and restarted it's been fine. Give it a try.

I think the idea is to put the card into a PC and get the files that way. In this scenario, what the TF is doing is irrelevant.

I actually don't mind the new cursor, since it's only for the trackpad (that I can't be terribly precise with anyways). And, the effects are kind of cool.
The normal cursor remains with an external mouse, where it's really needed.

Except the round cursor will make remote desktop use very difficult (I use remote desktop 5+ hours a day) and using an external mouse defeats the purpose of keeping things compact or lap-usable.
ASUS should not be messing with core functions like that. Even the trackpad scroll direction is messed up.
i had the same problem . just do the factory reset it will fix everything.

I'm trying I found out that I can get away with copying one directory at a time, so I can save my data, but it will take a while. Factory reset when that's done.
Nice, having to do a factory reset after FOTA with all the work of reinstalling apps. This is something that should not happen!
Well this is major poo poo. A factory reset didn't help much. My tablet feels like it's running on 100mhz... The stock browser took over a minute to load! Installing apps takes over 30 seconds when it should be more like 5. I tap on something and nothing happens... And then I get a force close...
Thank god for this iPad....
I love the performance changes they've done in 3.2, the desktop and widgets rendering optimizations are really noticeable.
I don't use the trackpad very much, but i don't think that making the reversal change without any configurable setting to turn it back to its previous behaviour was a good idea.
I hope they release a minor update to fix all known issues in this version, especially for that annoying "8 dance" bug in applications that don't actually use the compass constantly, like Samurai 2. I love Sky Maps but with this constant compass interference bug its really unusable.
my 3.2
Mines ok, except that friggin compass calibration during samurai 2 turned gps and location services off and it still does it, dungeon defenders is fine though so i dunno.
just a thought
Do you have an app killer? Do you have too many apps running? It is amazing how much stuff is running in the back ground if you don't force close stuff periodically. Hope you get it sorted.
I belive I found the problem. I noticed that the process "android.process.media" was clocking 100% cup for DAYS and I came across a few others who had this issue with their phones. There was an "app" that I needed to clear the cache and data from and a short time after the android.process.media process began to run normally.
Now, I don't get those force closes or slowdowns... who knows what the heck that was all about, but I hope it never happens again!

So after the JB update I too had the random reboots while in the dock and charging I did all the usual, and cold reboots etc etc, but after reading in Atrix about there issues with ICS custom roms where it was noted that reboots stopped if you removed you external memory (or any memory cards come to that)
So I tried it, and now it doesnt do random reboots.....not sure if this will help anyone but might just make one irritation go away

it's the TF300t just normal bog standard machine, not rootd or unlocked, happened after the JB update, reported it in the JB issues thread, but wrote this after testing it after reading about the Atrix's similar issues after a custom ICS....
Since removing the sd cards from both dock and pad not had any more random re-boots, will try to see if it's one or other of the slots causing it.

I'll have to test this out since I have 2 MicroSD cards inserted into my TF300T right now with the newest JB release. It appears that my tablet is having the same issues as I've seen with custom ROMs on phones with too much running the background. I wish I had root, since I could trim what apps are running but that'll have to wait for later.

Thanks. I'll verify that I have the same kernel version as v10.4.2.17, which I updated to recently. I've read that a lot of people have issues with the power button, but since I don't, I believe that it is something within JB. The odd part is that I've seen this exact same issue in Android since 2.2. Maybe its my power user ways...

OCing can make a reboot happen due to overheating. Have you tried just doing stock speed?
I had reboots all the time when the dock was connected. I updated to the latest firmware two days ago and have not rebooted since. I also installed WakeLock set on partial and it seems to help.
I jumped ship from the iPhone 5 to an SG III from VZW. The iPhone 5 wasn't cutting it for me. I have a few questions though...
1. It appears I've been affected by the external SD card issue. I purchased a 32Gb PNY card and every time I try and use it, the phone tells me the card is bad. Annoying but it's there. Any ROMs resolve this issue?
2. I rooted and installed TWRP successfully. I've since tried CM 10.1 and Liquid to try and make use of the 4.2.2 version of Android. Both ROMs give me a "Waiting for Network" error even though I can make and receive calls as well as text messages. Anything to worry about there?
3. Since installing both ROMs the space on my internal flash has dwindled. Down from 10Gb or so to about 4Gb and I can't find any of the files I've copied to the internal flash. Do I need to format the internal flash or is something else amiss?
4. Lastly, every time I plug my phone into my laptop it keeps trying to load the stupid VZW Samsung software even though I've told it not to. It constantly does it and disconnects the phone then retires. Even installing the software does not make this issue go away...
I've restored to a backup of my rooted 4.1.2 system and all is well again. Am I missing something here or is this normal?

I am not aware of the "external SD card issue", are you sure its not just a bad sdcard? I've seem them fail on more than one occasion, sent it back to the manufacturer for a replacement. Maybe you should try reformatting it in a PC first. Make sure to use FAT and not NTFS or something else.
The "Waiting on Network" error could be related to the CDMA subscription settings. Using CM 10.1 go to the Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> More... -> Mobile Networks -> CDMA subscription and set to "RUIM/SIM". I've heard this was a bug on some ROMs but personally I've never seen it.
And finally when it comes to the internal flash you may be seeing an issue related to moving from Android 4.1 to 4.2 and back again. I believe this is related to the multi-user support. When using CM10.1 all of your internal flash stuff is moved to (or mounted at?) /data/media/0 and then there are issues when going back & forth to older versions. You'll need to check on that.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried setting the "CDMA Subscription" to SIM and the issue persists between reboots on the phone. I'm not sure whats causing it. As for the multiple directories and one being /0 I'll look into that. The SD card, I guess it could be bad, I'll check on it after I am down migrating data to the phone.

If the CDMA Subscription doesn't stick then it's likely a problem with that ROM. I know that some nightlies had that bug and then it had been corrected and then came back again. I'm currently running the Match 04 2013 "unofficial" and it does not have that issue.

I just flashed the M2 release of CM 10.1 and at first it gave me the "Waiting for Network" message. I set the Network setting to SIM and powered down the phone. Removed the SIM and powered it. Ensured the phone retained the SIM setting and then powered it down. Replaced the SIM and powered it up and the message was gone. I verified that I had 4G and could access the play store and other data sources over the network. Once that was I good I enabled WiFi and all seems to well.
The issue I was having with my SD card is gone as well. I've moved all my data to the SD card and I am no longer getting random disconnect errors in regards to the SD card. Weird, but it seems resolved.

Thanks for the reply. I tried enabling the hidden menu as described in that post but nothing happens. Do I need to dial the number or just type it? I googled for it and tried a few other numbers but nothing comes up.
I can get the hidden menu to enable by typing the number in the dialer as exactly posted in the thread but the next number no longer does anything. Are you on 4.1.2? I have no issues connecting to the computer on 4.1.2.
Edit: Which 4.1.2? Ota or leak?

I'm running CM 10.1 M2 (4.2.2).
I had the problem with my sd card as well. To fix the issue I took out my card and got the mirror sd adapter then placed it In my computer. It wouldn't read at all. I tried putting it and out multiple times but it wouldn't read. After a couple hours of leaving it set there I tried again and the comp read it and I quickly reformatted the card and have been using it since no issues.

As an update to my own thread. I dumped CM 10.1 M2, too many issues with it. The screen would flash black and then show the desktop, I was having to reload it every hour and Bluetooth barely worked. I'll wait for stable before trying again. The issues with SD cards is still there... I've tried 3 32Gb SD cards and none of them work in the phone. All are known good cards. I install a 16Gb card and I get no errors. Sucks. I might try a 64Gb card but I'll need to buy one first. For now, it's back too rooted 4.1.2 which isn't so bad.
Hi all,
I installed the latest ZOMBi-POP OMNI KANG RC1 on my TF700T and first let me say so far its awesome! fast! great so far. I do have one issue I can't figure out. The wireless has an ! on the icon and I can't reach anything on the internet. I do have an IP but I don't think it has a route or access to the DNS. I tried dropping to a terminal and pinging cnn.com but nothing comes up. Someone posted this question before but I never seen a real answer except to maybe downgrade TWRP to KANG recommened version (which it does say) and if I go to TWRP they no longer offer the older version I would expect to see.
Thanks for the assistance!
Andy
Reflash the rom with a different kernel. One of them had this problem, can't remember which...
Go for the Omni kernel. Works great
Tried all except TF201
I tried all the available kernels but they all do the same thing. I remember someone mentioning its the recovery causing the issue (which sounds odd to me). If so what version should I use and where can I download it? I tried going to the TWRP website but there aren't many version available anymore.

Hi all,

Hya gang... Same story here. I have Crombi KK as my internal rom and works good, but looking boost the speed and I/O power so I can run Microsoft Word and multitask between documents. I suspect the answer was to put Zonbi on an External ROM 2 SD. So I have done so with the ! on the WiFi signal. I ran the "chineese fix" in the terminal and got rid of the ! but not the problem. So I wanted to post and get msyelf back into the thread to seek any advice or suggestions. I will try loading the other kernels, but I read above that didnt solve the problem for Andy.
Ill update as I try the upload.
DNS/Route?
The wireless works, I get an IP but I can't reach anything. It seems to me there is a route issue or the DNS server information is not getting populated. I'm not familiar with phone based Linux OS's so I'm not sure where they store these settings. In most normal OS's it would be /etc/resolv.conf, /etc/nsswitch.conf and ifcfg-NIC. I guess I need to read up a bit on the layout of the OS.

Can you ping the IP address of your router (internal and external?)
The DNS servers are stored in some properties, you can run getprop to get them.
Weird! try it!
Ok, so yesterday I went back to the kernel I was using in the beginning but after I flash I decided to plug it in to charge it some more so I can play further. The tablet rebooted and sat at the select wireless network for about a day (I got sidetracked). I put the password in a few minutes ago and everything worked! Maybe after the rom is installed you just need to leave it alone for 15 minutes before even entering the wireless information?? Maybe this is what they meant it needs 15 minutes to get through everything before they suggest using it....even entering you wireless info. Try it. Maybe it had something to do with the charging of it? either way it works now I'm a happy camper.

So far so good....
I'm loving the rom so far! very nice. So can anyone suggest a kernel if you are using ROM2SD? I'm using that12 so far. Also, is there a real benefit for going to F2FS vs EXT4? noticable difference? I use EXT4 and XFS for all my Redhat/CentOS installs so I'm more familiar.

I will give it a try! Patience is a virtue after all!!!
Dealing with a constant freeze up about every ten minutes that lasts up to 30 seconds at a time. It seems to happen with apps that connect to the internet. I am running MM. Even when I was running LP it would do this just not as much. I've tried closing background apps and that doesn't help. It also seems to only happen on WiFi. Any suggestions?

Ummmmm Factory reset....? If that doesn't work your out of luck, should have stayed on Lolipop, because you can't re-flash a TOT anymore on MM.

This was happening to me and I took my sd card out and it didn't do it again
Sent from my LG-H900 using XDA-Developers mobile app
yeah. I can relate to the SD card issue... plug your SD card into your PC, backup any files, and do a full format. not a quick format. I recommend formatting with DISKPART in windows terminal if you know how. that's the only way I know its been fully formatted. BUT only do it this way if you completely know what you're doing. I don't want any issues blamed on me. USE DISKPART AT YOUR OWN RISK
