[REQ]Motorola Android 6.0 Soak Test - X Style (Pure) General

Hi. Me and the other developers have been trying to get our hands on the new Android 6.0 boot.img. If anyone is running the soak test people please PM me.
Thanks
Shawn

Did they actually start the soak test, or is it still the test drive?

Does it benefit you that much to have a pre release version? If you want to make roms, why wouldn't you wait until the final version of the software is released? I know that, usually, a soak is very similar to a final release (and who knows with these "test drives"), but not always. And since the 5.0 botched release caused several problems, why wouldn't you wait?

None of us got it. Unless the few people who beta-tested it not (soak tested) it.

Its against NDA so no one will bother

Could be that no one has it. Remember it is a small test group that got it. Soak is not live yet (maybe). Plus people agreed to be quiet about it so even if we got an invite it wont be public. Either way we all will have fun in a few weeks

Its going to be stock android 6 + moto assist, and android 6 is a refinement of the already stable android 5.1.
Want to know what it will be like? Watch this and imagine there is a moto assist app in the app drawer
https://youtu.be/MBx-R2RsFdU

LOL. Thanks. Already familiar with MM from my N6, more curious about the specifics of MM on the MXPE test drive, such as stability, doze improvements on our hardware, completeness, etc

I'm beginning to think the soak test was just a tease. I filed out the forms several weeks ago and I've seen nothing.

Well it was too prepare. They want to get a mostly stable version before they push it to the super soakers to make sure the 5.0 bricking disaster doesn't happen again. From what I have read we do NOT want them to rush things. Once it is safe the soakers will get it and then everyone. As long as it is within a month I do not mind if it means smooth and mostly bug free
I welcome the caution of Motorola. Or maybe they are already soak testing but the group members are so good they are keeping it on the DL

apparently they had a mess on their hands and they had to unlock their bootloaders and do all this stuff to fix their devices. Not sure all the details but I'm sure some users can testify to how messy it was.

I can confirm the 5.0 disaster ... It was Lollipop massacre ... It happened on the Moto G (First Gen), one of the first moto device to receive the lollipop update through Soak test ... the image was leaked and people started flashing them, there were some minor bugs in the image, and whenever people tried to get to stable kitkat, or stock Rom in order to get official update their phone got permanently bricked ...
There are major changes in the Bootloader during the major android updates, so it's best to take precautions and wait patiently till someone confirms a proper procedure .

I can confirm the soak test isn't fake.
Didn't want to share this whatever.
Added HD Calling
Added Wifi Calling
Added Band 12 support
Visual voicemail not built into the dialer app

Is root hopeless?

First off, I'm totally new to these forums and I'm not sure if I'm doing this right.
Anyway, I just got my S6 2 days ago and I stupidly downloaded the latest update without checking if root was possible. I'm on AOF1. Is there any possibility for downgrading / rooting in the future?
Thanks

As of right now, yes I believe your chances of root is hopeless unfortunately. Maybe after we obtain 5.1.1 update, hopefully.

Can you tell me what the lottery numbers are next week? Can anyone? No one on this site AFAIK can predict or see into the future. No one has any idea if someone has an exploit that they are working on or even finishing up. Kingroot 4.1 just popped up out of the blue and is allowing some Verizon devices on 5.01 ro be rooted...no one knew the day before it was released. It is ludicrous to say anything is impossible and will never happen in the phone world.

Patience, all it takes is patience. Chances of a KNOX non-tripping root its much less likely, but root will most likely show up.
I'm with you on this, i hate that there is no root available for the phones running AOF1 update, i badly want to root my phone, and wish the was a method available :/
To everyone who is on OF1...unless you bought the phone with that update on it, it is your fault you don't have root. You broke the cardinal rule of this community. Never accept an update from the carrier. No excuses. Please stop crying

Soak Test

Apparently there's a soak test for the Pure coming out soon. Anyone get this email? I was disappointed I didn't! It'll be interesting to see what it's for... Fingers crossed for Marshmallow!

I got it but when I tried to fill out the survey, it said what I entered in the field for IMEI or Serial Number was invalid??
So much for "non-disclosure" lol. Hope they don't pull the test since it's all out in the open now. Here's to crossing my fingers it's M
how do you get invited to a soak test? Never heard of it
Just filled out the survey, hopefully It's marshmallow.

not skipped but if you have unlocked bootloader and have rooted/custom recovery you wont be able flash it unless you return to stock

Just in case the soak test OTA will be published over here, are we able to flash it to?

Marshmallow will get here when it gets here.

I understand the craving for an update, but it seems every week there's a new thread asking when Marshmallow will arrive. I understand the irony of this statement, but please do not make anymore threads asking when the update will be out. Those are questions better suited for your carrier (I'm sure they have forums). Threads promoting discussion about Marshmallow are okay, such as asking what you're looking forward to most, but simply asking when it's going to be out is not making it come any faster.
While you're waiting, try flashing some of the ROMs, Kernels, and recoveries that our fantastic devs so graciously provide to us for free. @TEKHD, @jovy23, @foreverloco, @dr.ketan, @arter97, and @UpInTheAir (If I've forgotten anyone, I apologize) have all done amazing work for our device on the current version of Android. Take this time to test out their ROMs/kernels and if you get bored, flash another one. Explore all the settings and options. There is a lot you can do with what you've been given here.
Sorry. Rant over.
Thank you for saying what needed to be said. Although I am currently on the latest ROM and kernel from @TEKHD and @UpInTheAir, I was stock for the first 5 months of owning the Note 5. It runs more than fine on 5.1.1, and for everyone complaining that the M8 or M9 are getting MM on T-Mobile before us, there's a good reason for it. HTC has released MM for the international models and Samsung hasn't yet. T-Mobile can't release what they don't have.
I am also running stock 5.1.1 with root on my N5 and it's perfectly fine with LP. I'm in no rush for the MM update. There's a chance it may bring issues along with it and I read somewhere that it would be some time in March when we can see the update. Everyone just needs to hang tight.
@NotATreoFan @tamelion1117
Well said, sirs. I'd personally prefer to wait longer if it meant that most of the bugs and issues are ironed out when it finally hits our device. A solid, smooth update that comes a tad late is better than a half-assed buggy update that comes immediately.

Just what needed to be said, it may not have the new software, but I love my Note 5 just the way it is, and when Marshmallow comes out, it will be even better.

People generally feel there need to want the latest and greatest, in this case, the most up to date version of Android. I personally don't think MM will add much benefit to the note 5 because 5.1.1 is already quite good. Especially when you compare it to previous versions on tw.
If you want mm so badly, simply sell your note 5 and buy a nexus 6p. ;p it's crossed my mind a few times.
I was just thinking about this. As soon as an upgrade is pending many people all of a sudden seem to be unhappy with the phone until they get it.

Word. Nevermind that 5.1.1 runs like a bandit on the Note 5. Doze and permission control will be nice, but Samsung implemented the app optimization feature and the ROM I'm running right now has permission control as well. I'm not sure what else people want.
I'm sure the same people crying for the update will also be the ones to pin point and complain about every minor bug like it's some experience-breaking issue.
Just wait until it arrives and 37 threads pop up from sub 50 post users all notifying us of the update. Just trying to boost their thanks/post count and acting like little kiddies. I remember the note 4 general thread when an update dropped.
Anyone that is getting ansy for the MM update should read up on the 5.0 lollipop update on the Moto X 2014, my previous phone. Was one of the first to get the update, and so it had all the bugs. Didn't ever get totally sorted out, although 5.1 made it much better.
It could be around the corner:
"Samsung Galaxy Note 5 - February 2016"
Sammy is working on it, which means we'll likely see it late in the summer...ish.
Source: http://bgr.com/2016/01/25/galaxy-s6-note-5-android-6-0-update/

It looks like the AT&T Note5 has a beta test that just went live today, not many testers but someone that is on XDA got it, might be some kind of beta firmware floating around in the not too distant future. Also good news that Samsung is getting that far on any carrier, might have something for Tmo in the not so distant future.

Take this with a *HUGE* grain of salt, but I would suspect they're testing MM on AT&T because they're the largest GSM carrier in the US, and they also love to modify the builds more than T-Mobile does.

Android N Developer Preview expands beyond Google’s own devices

What are the chances the MPX gets the N Preview?

Not sure if you guys read the article, but the Sony Xperia Z3 is open to the preview.
"Unlike Google’s own devices, though, you won’t be able to enroll in the N preview online and then get the update over the air. Instead, you’ll have to download the preview and manually flash your device. After this, future updates will arrive over the air direct from Sony.
With this update, you can now install the Android N Developer Preview on the Z3, Nexus 6, 6X, 6P, Nexus Player, the Pixel C tablet, and the General Mobile 4G (Android One)."
I would love to see Motorola get on board with this, but I am not counting on it. Still waiting for 6.0.1 in the US after all...
Look how long is Motorola taking to release 6.0.1, a minor update. Forget developer previews, we'll be lucky if the full version of N gets to our phones by Christmas.

I agree with this 100%, the update to 6.0 was quick, but 6.0.1 dropped right around the time that 6.0 went public for MXPE and US users still haven't seen it. There has been an Asian release and a Euro release in very limited fashion. In addition to that OS update, the December and January Security updates were skipped, along with the April update. March Security patches are included in the 6.0.1 update that has been seen in other markets.

Isn't it possible to port it?
So I have a crazy question: if I can do a clean install (with zero issues!) of Ubuntu on my Lenovo Ideapad laptop meant for Win8, why can't someone take the base 6.0.1 code and "port" it to the XT1575? Even if that would leave the phone with some features "broken", let's see what those would be? Or how about at least " porting" the monthly Android security updates so we can flash them ourselves? Yes, updates can break things, but the patched security benefits probably outweigh that risk...

Android 7.0 Nougat being pushed to AOSP / Nexus

http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2016/08/taking-final-wrapper-off-of-nougat.html
Only a matter of time now!
Yeah, my hope was that since moto was dragging feet on the 6.0.1 and the monthly security updates that we would see Nougat earlier than most, but I then wondered why did they release a May security update at all. So that thought sent my hypothesis that they were working on a Nougat release right out the window.

They can't with on nougat until Google releases the source code. Motorola/Lenovo has also confirmed security updates will be quarterly vice monthly. They probably have a limited number of software engineers and developers and 6.0.1 honestly didn't really show that it could bring much in additional features to this phone. With nougat, there are reasons to move forward with the release.
Maybe this will fix the audio stutter with LTE calls on T-Mobile.
I know this might seem stupid but cant we port the nexus 5x factory android 7 rom?
I wouldn't bank on getting Nougat. Let's not forget how quickly Lenovorola dropped the 2014 Moto X in terms of Marshmallow. I know the unlocked variants eventually got it, but it took awhile.
I've this bad feeling in my gut our phone's support is going to be cut off. It's just like during the days of waiting for the Atrix to get 4.0 only for it to get canned.
Hope for the best, but expect the worst.

Just a fluff piece and purely conjecture... No reference to anything concrete like 95% of all articles out there. Fact is, only 16 handsets are absolutely confirmed to get Nougat, everything else is unofficial. And the only Moto on the list is the Nexus 6.

I'd like to point out that the Moto X Pure is on the official Nougat website https://www.android.com/phones/

In the comments section of that article user Tim stated "And your source is…? Also why is the Moto X Pure listed on the bottom of Google’s nougat website. The Moto X style (which is what the pure is called outside the US) is confirmed to have 7.0."

You must have a different version of the website to me as I can't see it. I see 5 phones listed, none of them are Motorola.

That's weird. I tried both desktop and mobile and it's there for me both times. Perhaps its a region thing? I'm in Tennessee, US

General Android site. Not specifically Nougat.

This thing isn't even a year old. We HAVE to get it. I would hate to have to rely on CM14 to stay current.

This is what I see. Nougat is mentioned, it could mean absolutely nothing, but either way it is an interesting find in my opinion.

I wouldn't say we have to get it, but not offering major update support for a flagship type device up to 18 months after release would be a bad move by Lenovo. It would definitely push me away. I can deal with fewer less frequent security updates as well as bypassing minor ones (6.0.1), but a major one that this device can easily handle is expected.
Getting flashbacks to the Atrix 4G's journey to 4.0. What a time to be alive.
This being a new Motorola in ideology, so-to-speak, I'm optimistic, but it doesn't bode super well that they've already directed resources away from security updates. But who knows, maybe they did that to work on bringing 7 up.
Too bad they don't just tell us what's happening.

That is something I have always wished for in an OEM. I guess they keep silent not to get hopes up, only to crush them later if something doesn't work out, but some sort of information would be nice. At least tell us it's being worked on, or what is being worked on.
