I understand the craving for an update, but it seems every week there's a new thread asking when Marshmallow will arrive. I understand the irony of this statement, but please do not make anymore threads asking when the update will be out. Those are questions better suited for your carrier (I'm sure they have forums). Threads promoting discussion about Marshmallow are okay, such as asking what you're looking forward to most, but simply asking when it's going to be out is not making it come any faster.
While you're waiting, try flashing some of the ROMs, Kernels, and recoveries that our fantastic devs so graciously provide to us for free. @TEKHD, @jovy23, @foreverloco, @dr.ketan, @arter97, and @UpInTheAir (If I've forgotten anyone, I apologize) have all done amazing work for our device on the current version of Android. Take this time to test out their ROMs/kernels and if you get bored, flash another one. Explore all the settings and options. There is a lot you can do with what you've been given here.
Sorry. Rant over.
Thank you for saying what needed to be said. Although I am currently on the latest ROM and kernel from @TEKHD and @UpInTheAir, I was stock for the first 5 months of owning the Note 5. It runs more than fine on 5.1.1, and for everyone complaining that the M8 or M9 are getting MM on T-Mobile before us, there's a good reason for it. HTC has released MM for the international models and Samsung hasn't yet. T-Mobile can't release what they don't have.
I am also running stock 5.1.1 with root on my N5 and it's perfectly fine with LP. I'm in no rush for the MM update. There's a chance it may bring issues along with it and I read somewhere that it would be some time in March when we can see the update. Everyone just needs to hang tight.
@NotATreoFan @tamelion1117
Well said, sirs. I'd personally prefer to wait longer if it meant that most of the bugs and issues are ironed out when it finally hits our device. A solid, smooth update that comes a tad late is better than a half-assed buggy update that comes immediately.

Just what needed to be said, it may not have the new software, but I love my Note 5 just the way it is, and when Marshmallow comes out, it will be even better.

People generally feel there need to want the latest and greatest, in this case, the most up to date version of Android. I personally don't think MM will add much benefit to the note 5 because 5.1.1 is already quite good. Especially when you compare it to previous versions on tw.
If you want mm so badly, simply sell your note 5 and buy a nexus 6p. ;p it's crossed my mind a few times.
I was just thinking about this. As soon as an upgrade is pending many people all of a sudden seem to be unhappy with the phone until they get it.

Word. Nevermind that 5.1.1 runs like a bandit on the Note 5. Doze and permission control will be nice, but Samsung implemented the app optimization feature and the ROM I'm running right now has permission control as well. I'm not sure what else people want.
I'm sure the same people crying for the update will also be the ones to pin point and complain about every minor bug like it's some experience-breaking issue.
Just wait until it arrives and 37 threads pop up from sub 50 post users all notifying us of the update. Just trying to boost their thanks/post count and acting like little kiddies. I remember the note 4 general thread when an update dropped.
Anyone that is getting ansy for the MM update should read up on the 5.0 lollipop update on the Moto X 2014, my previous phone. Was one of the first to get the update, and so it had all the bugs. Didn't ever get totally sorted out, although 5.1 made it much better.
It could be around the corner:
"Samsung Galaxy Note 5 - February 2016"
Sammy is working on it, which means we'll likely see it late in the summer...ish.

It looks like the AT&T Note5 has a beta test that just went live today, not many testers but someone that is on XDA got it, might be some kind of beta firmware floating around in the not too distant future. Also good news that Samsung is getting that far on any carrier, might have something for Tmo in the not so distant future.

Take this with a *HUGE* grain of salt, but I would suspect they're testing MM on AT&T because they're the largest GSM carrier in the US, and they also love to modify the builds more than T-Mobile does.

LG is set to release android 5.0 lollipop in just a few days in Poland. I must say reading this was a bit shocking after dealing with lg's lack of updates in the past. I hope LG continues with updates like this in the future. I just hope it is a quality build that wasn't rushed so they could be 1st.

I'm a Lil surprised that the first updates are set to begin in Poland and not their home country of Korea. I'm a Lil worried that att will delay it for awhile while they add more bloat to it.

Sadly I'm sure you're right if past history is any indication. Once the sale is made there's nothing in it for ATT so why bother with updates. My guess is nothing official until next year. All they really want is for you to do is buy something else.

There is a Lollipop ROM out for the 855. http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/rom-lollipop-rooted-rom-skin1980-t2936022

Hi. Me and the other developers have been trying to get our hands on the new Android 6.0 boot.img. If anyone is running the soak test people please PM me.
Thanks
Shawn
Did they actually start the soak test, or is it still the test drive?
Does it benefit you that much to have a pre release version? If you want to make roms, why wouldn't you wait until the final version of the software is released? I know that, usually, a soak is very similar to a final release (and who knows with these "test drives"), but not always. And since the 5.0 botched release caused several problems, why wouldn't you wait?
None of us got it. Unless the few people who beta-tested it not (soak tested) it.
Its against NDA so no one will bother

Well it was too prepare. They want to get a mostly stable version before they push it to the super soakers to make sure the 5.0 bricking disaster doesn't happen again. From what I have read we do NOT want them to rush things. Once it is safe the soakers will get it and then everyone. As long as it is within a month I do not mind if it means smooth and mostly bug free
I welcome the caution of Motorola. Or maybe they are already soak testing but the group members are so good they are keeping it on the DL

I can confirm the 5.0 disaster ... It was Lollipop massacre ... It happened on the Moto G (First Gen), one of the first moto device to receive the lollipop update through Soak test ... the image was leaked and people started flashing them, there were some minor bugs in the image, and whenever people tried to get to stable kitkat, or stock Rom in order to get official update their phone got permanently bricked ...
There are major changes in the Bootloader during the major android updates, so it's best to take precautions and wait patiently till someone confirms a proper procedure .
I can confirm the soak test isn't fake.
Didn't want to share this whatever.

I ran all M previews & official Marshmallow on my Nexus 5. It's really not all that different over Lollipop. The only thing I miss is to be able to restrict individual permissions per app (baked in). Sure, I do do this using different methods now via xposed. Doze is nice especially when you tweak it.

And everyone else thanks. I haven't seen any info or hint we are getting 6.0 of course we will be getting it but the question is when. True maybe not that much different than lollipop, but where it does differ, is great. Mainly the app permissions.

Note 5 is supposed to get 6.0 next month. Sprint should release 2 months later
We should see marshmallow summer 2016. They should give everyone the option to beta test not just s6 people that would shut up alot of us waiting suck i rather get a buggy rom and just get updates until its perfect like how Microsoft let people try new stuff before hand like the microsoft preview on pc.
By the time we get it the note 6 will be out.

Not necessarily true. I think we are better off than AT&T and Verizon. Sometimes Sprint gets an update before the other carriers most times not [emoji1].
Rumor is that Samsung will start rolling it out to the note 5 in February, then you have to wait for the carrier to give it a once over, on top of that, it's mostly Samsung fault. They have what 4 currently flagship phones not including the last gen ones. We have the s6, s6 edge, edge +, and the note 5... and that's just the current flagship, not to mention the other phones they've put out last year. Samsung as a company, is one of the biggest, if not THE biggest smartphone oem.

I own a Nexus; in fact, I own almost every Nexus to date. Just because I own pure Vanilla NEXUS devices, it doesn't mean I don't own other variants like my Note 5 perhaps. No. Other companies are out pacing SamCrap by delivering Marshmallow without strain. Fact! I'm afraid we're no longer receiving those very important security monthly patches SamCrap promised us. For the love of God and all that is good, go find something positive to do with your life. There's a whole world out there that you AND your Note 5 can can explore, together, in harmony.
How I'd love to take screen shots of posts from people pining for the update, then match then up with posts of people complaining about how it ruined your device. Fortunately I have better things to do like clean the litter bax handed than sit and complain about a F'n phone and the lack of current software.

For the love of GOD!!! Why are you commenting on a thread that makes absolutely no sense to you??? This thread is as useless to you as much as your comment is to me. [emoji19] as Ownage Pranks would say it... STOP IT.

Back on topic. Please. Or I will ask Mod...to look in on the matter because I believe a person or persons are trolling when stating "unless thread" when in fact, their comments are useless and off topic. (Contradicting)

Wait what? Lol
I understand you guys are upset, I really do. However, I implore you to show force with your wallets instead because we are not the bread and butter of Samsung Electronics or T-Mobile.
Another thing. I support the right to create a thread for voicing against samsuck, but it's not as I'd everyone here didn't know about the track record of carriers and manufacturers. Literally everyone knows that phone updates take a backseat to new phone launches. It's been that way since the first iPhone was released.

Is there an ETA for the update, i have a note 5 and i am really eager for the update, it was supposed to be released on December 2015, however i do prefer getting a perfect update than a fast and buggy one...
EDIT: I am from the Middle East.
I've been looking around for news on when TMO and the other US carriers are going to release Nougat for the Note 5. No real news out there that I can find. Anyone find anything?

It was released randomly for the SM-N920C 2 ¹/² weeks ago in Turkey...

...so it shouldn't be too much longer for the rest of the world to get it. Depends on when your service provider decides to release it though. I asked T-Mobile when it would be for SM-N920T and they pretty much said that they weren't allowed to say, that it would be sometime in the near future and just to keep an eye out for it. No one knows when it will be released, but literally EVERYONE is waiting for this, so believe me you'll know when it arrives on XDA.
Sprint got 7.0 today
We got N920TUVU4DQC2 today.. guess we have to wait a bit longer for Nougat.

Here's a write up about the Sprint Note 5
http://phandroid.com/2017/04/06/sprint-galaxy-note-5-nougat-update/
Folks rocking the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will want to be on the lookout for an OTA to hit their phone. It’s Nougat!
The update is coming in as version N920PVPU3DQC5, a 1.4GB affair. It’ll be receiving all of Nougat’s new features and those which Samsung are delivering as part of a big upgrade to TouchWiz. It may even make your phone feel brand new, though we aren’t promising anything. Oh, and its security patches are fairly up to speed with a March 1st, 2017 level.
Anyway, for such a massive file size you’ll want to make sure you’re on a WiFi connection and have a decently charged battery (let’s say more than 50% to be on the safe side) before attempting to pull it down. Head to the settings menu on your phone to look for it manually if it hasn’t already hit your notifications tray.

Yea I read this yesterday
Sounds like the ATT folks began getting the update yesterday. How far behind can TMO be?
Verizon just got theirs......so it looks like T-Mobile is last.

I made this tutorial awhile ago for people with root to still be able to receive the update. Doesn't work if you're currently using a Nougat rom though. Can be done easily however from either stock Marshmallow or a Marshmallow rom that's based on your devices firmware.

EDIT: Oh...I forgot you commented on it. Guess you already knew about it. [emoji14]
Tmobile SOON 7.0
I wonder why all the other major US carriers have it out and TMO does not. I hope it is not an indication that the TMO version has bugs.
Could be they wanna make sure it is good for us first. I have heard about the other carriers releasing buggy updates to just get them out...lol we can hope anyway
