Screen and reset help - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Trying to get my sons unit to work, first thing was the screen was unresponsive, I read to try a factory reset, seeing as the touch would work, I tried the volume/power button. After many attempts I finally got that to work.
navigated around with the volume button and selected reset. Now I am stick in the select Language which I can do but cannot continue as the next button is unresponsive.
I am think of trying to get a new screen etc .. would it just be the glass or both screen and glass . (if someone could clarify which and what to order)
sorry if I am totally stupid android etc is new... been a windows man for many years

Open it up and see if any cables have come loose, they are renowned for pulling out the display cable if they are dropped, possible it could affect touch too
The display cable is wrapped around the battery, which shifts when dropped, and pulls the cable out

sounds like a good idea, as I got him to own up to having dropped it and the back un snapped. will check that out tomorrow. thanks

I found one flat cable with the lock clip up, tried again got a lot of the touch working, just the bottom 3 back-home etc that will not respond. wonder if I have missed something like another cable or something.

I'd hazard a guess that it would be that one cable, maybe not fully making contact with the port it was pulled out of, I'd try fiddling with it more, see if it changes the places touch isn't working
Also check that the cable isn't damaged, they are pretty thin, possible it has ripped inside the shielding
Sounds like you're on the right track though
Check that it is not just those three navigation buttons not working, such as the whole bottom 1cm of the screen - rotate the screen, see if the touch points are dead in the same places
And I'm not 100% about this, but check if the screen end of that cable is removable too

thanks my friend, yea I rotated the screen several times and those three will not work. I did have a funny effect before I did another reset. I would try and press the reset in settings and the wi-fi settings would open. lolol after playing around I finally got it to work. I will keep fiddling.
2nd eldest daughter handed me her ipod with a lovely pattern of cracked glass.. so ipod added to my list.

Oh the joys of kids and expensive tech!
If the buttons won't work in any orientation, it sounds more like a ROM issue for that problem, if it was touch, the same part of the screen wouldn't work in any orientation, meaning the navigation buttons should work in either portrait or landscape, whichever is the opposite of the non working orientation
Good luck

Touch screen not working, can't hard reset

Hi everyone,
Last night my polaris started playing tricks on me. Basically the touch screen is not responsive but the hard buttons all work. For some reason though when I try to do a hard reset (GPS, Internet and reset) it doesn't perform a hardreset. Also I can't put it into boot loader mode
Any suggestions?
Can you try and flash a new ROM?
Yes i've flashed another cooked ROM and till nothing, even D/L official 6.1 ROM and still no touch screen.
I would immediately assume the touch screen is broken but the fact I can't use the hard reset combination (even though the individual buttons work) has got me confused
Hi!
I've the same issue.
This morning everything was fine but, now i can't use the touch screen.
It seems that the "cursors" is always in the upper right corner, but as i move it clicking in the other part of the screen it runs back in that corner.
I'm not able to hard reset, i've tried to do a clearstorage but i'm not able to enter the security code "1234" as i haven't the cotnroll of the screen
Have you solved this problem?
I will let you know shortly but cut a long story short it looks like i broke it
on closer inspection of can see a small dent/scratch on the screen so ordered a new touch screen off ebay. It arrived today so i'll be putting it in shortly so fingers crossed it was actually the problem. I figure the problem was the screen causing a permanent short and hence interupting my attempts at a hard reset
The screen cost about $35 AUD delivered and it took me about 30 minutes to pull the device apart, just have to see how long it takes to get it back together now
I'll post back soon
To me something similar has hapened.
Once i was changing the values of the pressure settings and the screen become unresponsive!
It was quite easy to fix it:
-just press the GPS button and the center button at the same time, then you will enter the menu were you can align the screen and, at the same time, the pressure registry values become as default.
Hope this helps with your problem, good luck with the screen replacement!
It's alive!!!!
Replaced the digitizer (touch screen) and all works again ...
Just to warn you though it isn't for the faint of heart, I thought i'd broke it a couple of times throughout the repair, next time i'll be getting a repair quote first
Congratulations!!
As my polaris is still under warranty i'll send my to the official assistance for the touch screen replacement!
Yesterday i've got my Cruise back from assistanza.. thay have replaced the whole mother board and now the touch screen is working
its a good idea to install my mobiler. this lets you control the device using a pc when the touch screen doesn't work. you can then back up your stuff before sending off for repair.

HTC TP2 touchscreen capability is gone

I have a huge situation with my Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 phone. A couple of weeks ago I found out I accidentally slept on top on my phone after waking up. I go to use my phone, but to find out the touch screen doesn't work, but it displays everything fine. At close inspection on the screen, I discovered a black dot. I guess that is where the pressure point was at. It looks like a pool of water. It grew to about two inch in length over the weeks. I can't do anything, but call and receive phone calls. I cant text people because I need to press send with my finger or stylus. Its like this for many applications. I need to press the bottom buttons on the screen to things. There are no keyboard shortcuts for these buttons. Is there a work around anybody know of?

You may be able to use a program to assign soft key functions to hardware functions (HButton for example), but your screen is busted. You could try to get it repaired (maybe buy a new digitizer from eBay and do it yourself if you know how to do it).
Good luck.
I believe the issue is what is called newton rings, which was a big problem with the TD2's. Here is a link to a thread that should explain it.

SAME EXACT THING JUST HAPPENED TO ME, AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

[Q] Ghost touches (especially in dock) with TF700t. How to fix this?

I had issues with my Asus TF700t that quite often it did not react on touch gestures.
And on the home screen the "change backround" dialog opened sometimes without any touch on the device.
This happend very very often when it was in the dock, but also without the dock (less occurence).
Now i know that the reason are ghost touches. By the usage of touch test apps (e.g. "Simple Touchscreen Tester" oder "Yet Another MultiTouch Test") i realized the ghost touches.
This touches are recognized always on the same coordinates. The multitouch test app detects 4 fingers on the same y-axis.
When the tab is in the dock and i open it completely to the maximum the two bolts from the dock are pressing very strong to the background of the screen glass. This is causing the ghost touches.
I opened the tab and tried to find what could be wrong (especially on the area where the touches are detected).
Anyhow i could not find anything. The only thing i noticed was the on the y-axis of the ghost touches the screen is fixed on the left and the right.
I check everything else closed the case ... but the ghost touches are still present.
Any idea how to fix the issue??? Who else realized the same issue???
Attached some screen shots from the touch test apps.

Sounds like you have a digitiser hardware issue to me. Had the same on my Surface RT. Only fix was to get it replaced.
Yeah, I just got mine back from warranty digitizer recalibration.
tapatalkin'
Another TF700T here that just returned from RMA with digitizer repair. Went very smoothly for me and I have a TF700T that again works extremely well.
Do they replace parts or just recalibration? Is it possible to so this myself?
I have unlocked bootloader and i do not know if they will repair it without any problem. Any experience on this?
Hi,
First, sorry for my english...
Second, I have same problem since saturday 24 august with my TF700T. Buy november 2012.
I tried to updated to android 4.2 But it didn't solve my pb.
I try "Multi Touch test" app and I observed same problem than mr_cg. Thanks for your good description "Ghost touch"
Ghost disappear when i unplug and re-plug dock, (some time two or three time) but just for some second ...

If you are root, you can perhaps try this app:
ILITEK Touch Utility
or
(less chance i think, it did for S2,S3) TouchScreenTune
Me i am not root, but if it is working for you, perhaps i will try to be.
Thanks for your help

Thanks for the hint. I tried the apps, but both do not solve my issues.
ILITEK ... descriptions sounds good, but unfortunately not working (i get always "access denied" even i have root for sure).
TouchScreenTune ... Based on description it should be also good tool to reduce/improve situation with ghost touches. Anyhow ... it is not working with TF700t.
I am just thinking if i should open the case again???
If with root permissions you don't find solution ... I think i should call Asus support for my first RMA..
snif snif.
Thanks for your return. I win a lot of time.
Same issue
I'm having the same issue here, but only when docked. Seems like I'll stop using the dock since I am out of waranty because I unlocked the bootloader ...:S
I've been having a similar issue very badly on the right side of my screen, it was practically unusable. I am also out of warranty because I'm unlocked. What I did to make it at least somewhat usable was go into the build prop and change my max touch screen events from 200 to 4, and changed my touch sensitivity from .001 to 1 (this setting may have only been available on CROMI. Anyway, now my touchscreen doesn't work on the right side, however it does work everywhere else, and most importantly I can still use the tab as a laptop in its dock. It's a bumm it doesn't work right, but it's better than a total loss!
Sorry guys, it is a failed design problem due to connection to the touch screen. see my post in the "so i took it apart" thread.
Cost me a ruined lcd screen to figure it out
Ghost touches

What a great thread! Thanks, I've posted this elsewhere but having just send my TF700 back to ASUS I now have a pretty good idea of what might have been wrong with it. Here's what I posted and what I've told them anyway. I've overlooked the Ghost touches unfortunately, so I will let them know that (if they don't already)......any comments welcome...
Asus Transformer S/N D20KAS016975
I've struggled with this tablet since purchase in April this year, not being at all familiar with tablets I did not know whether it was just me, the general setup, or the tablet itself at fault. Most certainly the performance is not satisfactory. I have done three 'Factory Resets' and numerous Soft Resets.
Intermittently, the tablet will scroll and flash through various apps, when I open it. Originally File Manager would open itself up, then I got the feeling the Weather app would upset things. Sometimes a browser would make it do the same. Then I tried various Launchers, but the best of them (I think) sometimes shows the menu unannounced. Same thing, on and off until I intervene.
It is also prone to do this just sitting open by itself.
Clearing the caches sometimes fixes this. Sometimes this will stop by itself, other times I need to either close the lid, press the lock button, or turn it off. Then it will be OK.
At times Gmail will scroll randomly through the accounts, messages, labels etc.
Every browser I've tried will sometimes shut itself off, especially if I try to type something into a message box, usually when I've spent some time doing this!
Occasionally I can feel a slight tingling sensation when I'm lightly touching the back of the screen.
One other thing: When left overnight the mouse doesn't work and the tablet needs to be turned off and on again for the mouse to work. I also think the screen doesn't turn off sometimes (can see a light).
At other times the whole thing works just fine.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Grant

Tablet arrived back this morning and seems all OK. Report indicates they replaced the LCD panel (new) & replaced the touch controller board (also new). And did various tests. Good service I think, no fuss. I'll let you know how it's going in a few days.

Grant,
Was your tablet still under warranty? Did they charge anything? I wonder if they redesigned the digitizer connection or just put a new screen which will wear out as well. The digitizer connector runs along the bottom left of tablet screen. Same area is being pressed when you close dock, which wears it out.
You can go to developer settings and enable "show touches" (lowers tablet performance) then press on the bottom left edge of the screen, roughly 1/3 point of its length, and see if you get the ghosts to appear.

Yes, still under warranty (problem was there from day 1 although I didn't realise it at the time) and no charge. See attached pdf Customer report. Shows replacement Led panel, & controller board. No sign of ghost touches so far, and really working well actually. Early days yet, but I also note elsewhere in these forums someone mentioned their tablet not working properly 'upside down'. I neglected to mention it earlier but upside down isn't as funny as his respondents made out. I use mine often lying on the couch watching TV, with the tab upside down. Reason I mention it now is that mine acted up in those circumstances too. Anyway, that's fixed too.

Screen showing colourful static, not flex cable.

My screen is showing the static that is symbolic of a broken flex cable, so naturally after a quick google i realised thatd be the part to buy.
I bought it and its been fitted and the phone is still not working. It shows colourful static still.
Whats unique about my problem that i havent been able to find elsewhere is that
a) if i bang the phone on the back the screen will flicker to the boot up (swirly pattern thing) and freeze and after a couple of bangs i can eventually get it to stick on a working screen, hence why i think this is a hardware issue.
b) not sure if this is a coincidence or not but when the phone was opened up and the back was off, pressing on the front facing camera and around that area appeared to help sometimes, could simply be coincidental though.
thanks

Xtrons PB7639BP touch screen stops working

As the title says, every day or two the screen stops responding to touch, I have to hold the power button for 30 seconds to force a hard restart or put a pin in the reset hole on the front, then it's fine again for a day or two.
I have updated MCU from MTCE_GS_V2.78 to MTCE_GS_V3.40, and Android from HCT_PX5_6.0(20171023) to HCT_PX5_6.0(20171227), also removed front panel and DVD player and re-seated all 3 ribbon cables connecting the front to the main unit (2 small & 1 wide) to no avail, An ideas? or is it just giving up after 3 years?
Thanks all
I'm having the same problem, only thing is now its become permanent. I've tried everything from MCU updates to stripping down the unit to barebones and checking connections. Its not just the screen touch, its the touch panel controls as well. Did you get thsi resolved?
Unfortunately not, sometimes it comes back to life, I quickly play an album, the screen jumps and flashes then goes black, no touch working but music keeps playing, sometimes my whole journey to work is in silence, I'm learning to live with it
