As the title says, every day or two the screen stops responding to touch, I have to hold the power button for 30 seconds to force a hard restart or put a pin in the reset hole on the front, then it's fine again for a day or two.
I have updated MCU from MTCE_GS_V2.78 to MTCE_GS_V3.40, and Android from HCT_PX5_6.0(20171023) to HCT_PX5_6.0(20171227), also removed front panel and DVD player and re-seated all 3 ribbon cables connecting the front to the main unit (2 small & 1 wide) to no avail, An ideas? or is it just giving up after 3 years?
Thanks all
I'm having the same problem, only thing is now its become permanent. I've tried everything from MCU updates to stripping down the unit to barebones and checking connections. Its not just the screen touch, its the touch panel controls as well. Did you get thsi resolved?
Unfortunately not, sometimes it comes back to life, I quickly play an album, the screen jumps and flashes then goes black, no touch working but music keeps playing, sometimes my whole journey to work is in silence, I'm learning to live with it

Hello everybody,
I was playing a game on my device, the EM ONE, and I had to leave the game running for a while - it's the Bejeweled 2 game. After a few minutes the device went into suspend mode, switching the screen off.
When I tried to start it again, the screen remained dark at first, then, after 5-7 seconds it started lighting up slowly, like individual pixels were lighting up little by little until they were all lit (like stars appearing in the sky).
However, the screen only lights up to white and nothing else. I tried resetting, switching on/off, eventually I attempted a hard reset. Still the same thing happened - the display would gradually light, and then just stay in white...
time to call the warrenty depo
Yeah, wish I could. Japanese devices don't get support outside Japan.
Anyway, by the looks of it, I am pretty sure it's to do with the nVidia GoForce 5500 chip. I know little about PPC hardware so I don't even know if this chip can be fixed somehow, or the only "cure" is replacing it - in which case it gets all too expensive and pointless.
No idea how, but as I powered the device today to take pictures of it to post in a forum, it powered on perfectly normally.
Played with it for an hour, then shut it down. Trying to power back on in a while resulted in the same blank screen I described above.
While in this state, I launched the TCPMP (with one of the hardware buttons) and it started playing - I could only hear the sound....
EDIT: I found out that if I put the device in the fridge for 20 or so minutes, the display will light up normally and will work until I suspend the device. After that, if it's heated up, that is, more than 10 minutes have passed, it will again show the white blank screen.
Trying to get my sons unit to work, first thing was the screen was unresponsive, I read to try a factory reset, seeing as the touch would work, I tried the volume/power button. After many attempts I finally got that to work.
navigated around with the volume button and selected reset. Now I am stick in the select Language which I can do but cannot continue as the next button is unresponsive.
I am think of trying to get a new screen etc .. would it just be the glass or both screen and glass . (if someone could clarify which and what to order)
sorry if I am totally stupid android etc is new... been a windows man for many years
Open it up and see if any cables have come loose, they are renowned for pulling out the display cable if they are dropped, possible it could affect touch too
The display cable is wrapped around the battery, which shifts when dropped, and pulls the cable out
sounds like a good idea, as I got him to own up to having dropped it and the back un snapped. will check that out tomorrow. thanks
I found one flat cable with the lock clip up, tried again got a lot of the touch working, just the bottom 3 back-home etc that will not respond. wonder if I have missed something like another cable or something.
I'd hazard a guess that it would be that one cable, maybe not fully making contact with the port it was pulled out of, I'd try fiddling with it more, see if it changes the places touch isn't working
Also check that the cable isn't damaged, they are pretty thin, possible it has ripped inside the shielding
Sounds like you're on the right track though
Check that it is not just those three navigation buttons not working, such as the whole bottom 1cm of the screen - rotate the screen, see if the touch points are dead in the same places
And I'm not 100% about this, but check if the screen end of that cable is removable too
thanks my friend, yea I rotated the screen several times and those three will not work. I did have a funny effect before I did another reset. I would try and press the reset in settings and the wi-fi settings would open. lolol after playing around I finally got it to work. I will keep fiddling.
2nd eldest daughter handed me her ipod with a lovely pattern of cracked glass.. so ipod added to my list.
Oh the joys of kids and expensive tech!
If the buttons won't work in any orientation, it sounds more like a ROM issue for that problem, if it was touch, the same part of the screen wouldn't work in any orientation, meaning the navigation buttons should work in either portrait or landscape, whichever is the opposite of the non working orientation
Good luck
So I started my CX-5 about an hour ago to be greeted by a black screen full of flowers. Literally. No idea why. This happened one other time, and it seems as though once it powered completely down, it comes back up fine. I have the timeout at 2hrs, so I have to wait quite a while to see if it's going to be ok.
I tried to reboot the unit by holding the reset button down, but all it does is put it to sleep. Actually, a short press caused it to mute (literally displays 'mute' on the display), and a long press puts it to sleep. Tried the press it till it goes off then release, then press again -- doesn't do anything but wake the unit up again.
The steering wheel controls all work fine. When I parked it last night I had the radio playing, and it was still playing when it started with the black screen. Volume and fwd-rev buttons on the SWC work fine. None of the capacitive buttons on the LCD do anything except home and power. Power puts it to sleep. Home displays the launcher screen (Car Launcher Pro).
If I press any of the app buttons in car launcher, they send me back to the black screen. Pressing the speed in the launcher switches to the trip display like it should.
Anyone ever seen this?
Anyone know how to actually reboot the thing short of pulling the fuse (if that would even work)?
The car has resistive steering wheel controls and *also* has a canbus decoder to tell the Bose amp what to go do with itself. I didn't actually have to use the KEY1 or KEY2 - I assume that the Mazda ISO adapter that they sent has this built in but I dunno.
Running MCU MTCD HA version 1.81
Thanks for any help...
That's happened to my MTCD a couple of times and seems to be when Android's user interface hasn't loaded properly for some reason.
Pushing a paperclip into the reset hole until it reboots normally fixes it for me.

Reboot with a paperclip as other guy pointed.
Your can bus not only plays with Bose amp....it gives you the reverse signal for the Camera as it is coded by can bus.
You have nothing to do with cables as they are properly wired for your installation

I have tried the paperclip method. All it does is put the thing to sleep. Doesn't matter if I hold it for 5 seconds or a full minute the result is the same.
the flowers thing is one of the default wallpapers
Hi !, try this......

this video shows how to enter recovery, you need to re-flash the firmware one in the recovery.
Good luck

@DudeInMyrtleBeach You have the same Head Unit as mine. How is it now? I have not updated mine yet. Can you update me on how your car radio is right now?

@Sylvan15 -- I had the flower screen one more time after I did the firmware upgrade, but I was able to reboot with a paper clip and I have not had an issue since.
Thanks

I got the same screen in my HU but only when car launcher is installed. If you remove the launcher that screen will not show again. Maybe is an issue with the car launcher with the units. I am using an MX (witson) version 1.93
I thought it might be car launcher. I haven't had any issues in quite a while though.
Hi guys,
This problem has me stumped, so I figured I'd consult the hive mind.
The touchscreen works fine after the phone is turned on - be that for a continuous period of 30 seconds or 30 minutes. However, if/when it goes to sleep, the touchscreen becomes completely unresponsive on wake up. The screen turns on, rotates, and the physical buttons work fine. I figure no touch input is acknowledged, because if I tap the screen after it dims nothing happens; but if I press a physical button, then full brightness is restored.
I have been looking around for a solution for some time, but none of the three I found appear to be working, ie:
- Ensuring the Wi-Fi's set to be permanently on (no change on any of the settings)
- Changing the ROM (problem appeared in stock ROM, it now sports LineageOS)
- Changing the digitizer (problem is the same on old or salvaged screen)
At this point, I am not sure what else I can try. Any ideas would be most welcome.
Maybe charger? Some cables/chargers make touch panel go crazy (it used to happen to me with bad chargers) so try to change charger and USB cable.
My z-flip3 5g has a strange problem. If i close it (by folding the screen closed), then after opening (unfolding) the screen and touching the right side button/fingerprint reader to unlock it, i hear the quiet "click" noise that indicates the phone is unlocked, but the screen stays black. i then have to repeatedly push the lock button on the right to lock the phone again and unlock it again. after several attempts the screen finally turns on. sometimes it will go black a few seconds later and the same issue continues. but other times the screen will stay on and work fine.
i have noticed that if i do not close the phone (folding the screen together) then i do NOT encounter this issue. the phone screen turns on when pushing the right side button (or touching the fingerprint sensor) and everything works fine.
this issue started yesterday, a system update installed yesterday as well, could it be related?
i already restarted many times, booted into recovery mode and wiped the cache. nothing has helped. the only way to avoid the problem is by not closing (folding the screen shut) the phone.
One UI v 5.1
Android 13
Security patch level Feb 1, 2023
fully stock/not rooted
I have same behavior. Did you solve this problem?
Unfortunately no. Did a factory reset, hoping that would help, but the issue persists
Mine has recently started doing the same. Last update was right before this started several weeks ago. I don't have mine set to require fingerprint, it should just turn on after opening. If I open it partway, it will turn on, then turn back off when fully opened.
hi,
i have same problem, it's software problem?
Not completely sure about that. They update this thing so often, it could be coincedence that it started shortly after an update. I want to try blowing out the hinges as I've got some dust under there that I hear when opening the phone. Definitely not a phone to put in your pocket after working in the wood shop!

and donĀ“t take it to the beach either!
What is also strange is that when I close the phone and open it a few seconds later, there is no issues whatsoever. However, if I leave it closed a few minutes, then when opening it, the problems with the screen staying off happen.
Yes, definitely don't take it to the beach!
@netridah , mine is doing exactly that. Which makes me wonder is it a wake issue, or a mechanical/sensor issue with the hinge.
one more to the bill
I checked the flexes and I warmed up the logic nothing works
I have the same issue: Flip 3 - 5G with OneUI 5.1 - 1 April Patch level
When I open the phone I eventually see for less than one second the lock screen, the goes black and unresponsive.
Then I have to press the button to turn the screen off (even if it is already) and then re-press the button or use the fingerprint to turn it on and it will work (eventually, sometime I have to do it a couple of times).
I already googled it on many forums but no solutions, I've tried to:
Disable the always-on display - no result, at first looked like it did the trick but the day after was having the same issue.
Check all the updates of the system components like always on-on display (settings --> lock screen --> always on display --> info), no help everything is up to date.
Hi,
I have the exact same problem, only difference is that I'm on the z flip 4.
I get the black screen and sometimes when opening or closing the phone the screen can flash in a bright yellow or green color.
I got a motherboard but the problem continued
Next step changing screen is very expensive at the moment
This is driving me crazy - also started the day I updated to OneUI 5.1.
Hoping for a solution soon!
I am also encountering this problem, I went to samsung repair shop 1 month out of warranty, sales person said it is a screen issue and needs to be replaced for 430$. Mine was before the update, i took mine near the pool, got wet maybe, as the alarm for usb charging mentioned unplug it immediately, day after it began randomly dark when phone is openned fully. Zflip 3
Oh just an update, i did some tinkering today, Good lock all updated, disabled clockface, sprayed some contact cleaner on power button, and hinges, fold close and open for a minute or two, fell asleep for 1 hour, and when I woke up, my screen works back to normal, it wakes up when unfolded, no more waiting or hitting the power button several times. hope this stays like this.

Hi, few days now, I still have occasional blacking out, I've tried putting my phone on safe mode, and this seems to solve the problem. I suspect it may not be hardware fault, but 3rd party software, "good lock" or something else that conflicts wit one ui, that makes the flipping open lag waking up. Contact cleaner used for electrical stuff
Didnt use my z3 for about a week let the battery drain.. then charged it too 100% without turning on the phone.. my phone back to normal now.. hope it works for you guys
Hello,
I am using Z Flip 4 and last night I started having this problem as well. I can confirm 100% that my phone has no hardware nor a history of impact of any sort that's why it's really frustrating having this kind of problem.
Has anyone already found a resolution for this problem?
Z flip 4 here also. Had the same problem with the screen. Took the phone to Samsung and they changed the screen, frame and back panel's for free under warranty.
They said it's a hardware issue.
So better to take the phone to Samsung.
