Screen responsiveness and water - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it normal that when my screen (with screen protector) is wet, it becomes unresponsive to my touches?
I haven't tried using the phone wet and without the screen protector, so I don't know if it happens because of the protector or it is supposed to be like that... But when it has water on the screen, I can't even use it because it won't recognize my fingers,or recognizes the touches erratically.
Thanks for answers!

It happens to every phone/tablet I've used. Hardware limitation, I guess.

Ok, thanks for the answer! This is my first waterproof device

It's due to screen touch being recognized via capacitive change and measuring that. Water conducts electricity too well and the screen can't register anything else. It's the same reason lots of touch screens don't work if you're wearing gloves.

Screen protector side effect ?!!

i heard that screen protector can reduce the lifetime of the screen (digitizer)
as it make pushes on the screen & it can make the phone warmer
although by those pushes it consume more cpu usage
those all theories that i heared about is that true because if so it'll be horrible
I have been using Screen Protectors in almost every single phone i had and never felt that the screen is "warmer" and can you explain what do you mean with "pushes on the screen"?
i meant it pushing the touch screen ( making a pressure on digitizer )
some of theory i remember was on this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377472
others topics i can't remember
As you can see in that thread that most of the problems are caused by a faulty GPU drivers and when most of them talked about pushing the screen the meant causing Touch input and keep the phone awake, and as stated also in that thread Screen protectors are not heavy enough to do so, So i believe your phone will be perfectly fine, If you are still afraid of scratches just getting a phone case that covers the screen
EDIT : also remember that the mentioned phone in the thread is using a resistive screen when in your case its Capacitive so its almost impossible that the screen protector will be able to cause any screen input
wow i guess i'm noob ...i guess u r right in this
thanks really

Screen rippling a widespread issue?

I was just wondering if everyone has the screen rippling issue when u press down on the screen. Also, based on people who have reported this issue, it appears to be a lot more common in white H1X's. Anyone care to share?
I noticed this in the store when initially checking out the phone before buying BUT it only seems to happen on the very edges of the screen and you need to press pretty damn hard to get it to do that. Hasn't actually affected real world usage for me since pressing the screen that hard is never necessary, especially on the outer edges.
Just tested mine out, no matter how hard or where I press I cannot get it to happen even a tiny bit. Apparently it only affects some devices.
You mean the same screen ripple that you see when you press on any LCD display?
I just tried on my phone while it displayed a white image and a black image, and I didn't see anything. But I can do it on my computer and TV. I thought that was typical of LCD displays.

it is, and especially on a phone this thin. I was told an explanation, but I can't remember for the life of me. But I never notice it from day to day use.

I assumed the ripple was because it's a Liquid Crystal Display.
Regardless, I've never seen it on mine. I have the dark grey one. Maybe some units have a thinner panel?
I actually know why this happens with HOX. Anal Torture & Tyranny told me to call HTC about replacing my phone. Talking with them explained my situation.
Phone where the lower right edge sits higher also causing a light leak, also causes the ripple is due to the battery cable inside the phone not sitting flush in the body. Also, there is a gasket that should be internal in the phone its basically electrical tape. Sometimes it rolls up causing the same problem.
Because of the battery cable not sitting flush it adds pressure behind the screen making the liquid crystal more prone to the ripple due to stress. Instead of flush in concave or convex depending on how you look at it.

i've seen this on all 4 devices i've had my hands on, and you don't have to press hard at all to get it.

Screen coating is coming off?

Noticed that from the place where my thumb usually makes up/down scroll is strange area, and even I clean the screen, this area is still there. See Yourself - I made a picture, clean screen, water steam (breath), and this middle area is the problem. My thumb is normal, I'm a normal user and I had newer such problem with any phone.
Is the Gorilla Glass really so bad or is it coated with some stuff which is just coming off?

No, I have not used any kind of screen cover, but seems that Moto G screen is covered with the the water-resistance coating and this is failing off - it's clearly visible when cleaning the screen with some liquid, only this area stays wet.
But I don't think this is normal behavior. I can't imagine what the power users screen is now or will be later. I contacted with the Amazon ( I have one dead pixel too), let's see what they say.

If it contains a dead pixel better get a replacement, all the best for that.
BTW water repellent coating is done on the internals of the device.

I know about internal coating. But as You see, the screen is also coated. I have the proof.
I made a test, sprayed water to the screen, and as You see, the damaged area stays wet, while the rest rejects it.
The question is - do I have faulty screen or this will happen to everyone sooner or later?

well you are the first one to report something like this and i agree with you because this might happen with others also sooner or later. Its very much possible that your screen is faulty since you mentioned its new (maybe the screen had tiny dust particle before the coating took place) many members are using the phone without any screen-guard but none have mentioned anything like this..A lot of member have got dead pixels on their screens and got them replaced.
I'm using a screen guard since the screen will get scratched over the time.

Well, Amazon just replied and they will replace it with the new one, so I have to wait for the new one and later send the old one back. Let's hope that this one's screen ( I still don't like to add the screen protector, as it's kind of ugly) will last longer.
If you apply the screen protector carefully, you won't even know it's on! It's your choice tough but what you reported is pretty worrying. That area of the screen seems too big tough for it to be a thumb, (you touch with just the tip of the thumb) do it was probably already a little damaged when you got it and with the time it got bigger and bigger. Or maybe you scratched your screen somehow?

the is an oliophobic coating on the screen of the moto g (part of the gorilla glas). this is also the reason why you generally get less fingerprints on the display than on a screen protector and why it's much easier to clean the display than the scren protector

I'm 100% sure that I haven't scratched the screen purposely, juts normal, id even say careful using. And if I clean the screen, it's bright and like a new, impossible to detect any damages, also this problematic area is clean and shiny. But when I touch it or spray water etc, it's clearly visible. So choices are:
1) Add screen protector (let someone do it, once I added it to iPhone and the result was terrible).
2) Polish the whole screen, so that this coating is removed.
3) Replace.
4) Ignore.

Yes, You are right, it's anti-fingerprint oleophobic coating and be warned, seems it's just won't last.

HELP! Phantom touches everywhere after a SHORT drop. No damage on screen or phone?!?!

Hey, everyone. So just a few moments ago I dropped my OPO onto my hardwood floor. I exclaimed, "Oh balls..." out loud and then picked up my phone. There are no marks on it, no damage to the tempered glass screen protector, nothing at all to note. BUT, now there are phantom touches happening in what appears to be the lower left quadrant of the screen. I cannot do anything. I have already made phone calls I didn't mean to make, send out random emails, it is ridiculous. There is no LCD bleed, no marks, nothing!!!?!?!
It does the same thing in TWRP recovery as well. Phantom touches in the same area. Is it possible that when I dropped it the tempered glass protector shifted a bit or something and now it is registering touches? Should I try to remove the tempered glass protector and see if that fixes it? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

The fact that there are no visible marks on the device doesn't mean anything at all, the phone is damaged, that's what happens when you drop them. It's impossible for the screen protector to be registering touches. You've most likely damaged the digitizer and it'll need to be repaired.

Thank you for the swift reply. I am comfortable taking this phone apart and replacing the digitizer, but can you suggest a reputable place to get a replacement part? Thanks again for your time.

Honestly, I don't know of any place at all that you can get a digitizer for this thing. If such a place does exist it's probably going to take some serious searching. One thing to take note of is you'll want to buy the digitizer + screen combo, because trying to separate the two will most likely end up with both being destroyed. And another thing to note, while the most obvious culprit is the digitizer, it isn't definitely that, so you might be better off having it inspected and repaired by OnePlus themselves (as much of a nightmare as that apparently is).
Funny thing is I dropped mine and now the screen works fine....before I had ghost touches galore.

Help me with pressure sensor results from your mobile...

I recently got my mobile serviced from a Sony service center, I believe the pressure sensor results indicate that my mobile is not fully sealed. No noticeable change in pressure.
So, can anyone please test this by accessing the service menu *#*#service#*#*, > tests > pressure sensor & try to apply slight pressure above the display.
It would be nice if you can record and upload the video to youtube like this.
thanks.
The pressure sensor is not a 100% way of knowing that your phone is "fully sealed".

I get that, but why should the results vary from one mobile to the other. Does it mean anything or not?

No, it shouldn't mean anything. My pressure sensor shows 10xx, while on my friend's phone it shows 11xx.

I think you don't get what I am saying. Mine doesn't go beyond 1007-1008 even when I apply pressure on the display.
So, I have recorded a video, it would be nice if you can do the same.
Thanks.

mine shows 993 so its less pressure but it doesnt mean its not sealed, lets say (and its just an example) that the least pressure for the phone to be sealed is 900, i got 993, you got 1007, it means we are both fully sealed but yours is pressed harder, kind of like a piece of rubber put it on the ground with water next to it, it wont go through, doesnt matter how hard you apply pressure as long as there is slight pressure.
with that said, more pressure could mean stronger seal BUT it could also indicate that your phone is being pressed harder than it should even on flat state without applying any, which means your phone is slightly bent (the bend of the device is causing pressure on the sensor which leads to more pressure indication) and thats not a good thing, because once that happens, you might notice slight yellowISH spots on the sides of the screen (am I right?) if not then the pressure is not so high but it doesnt mean its not sealed but be careful not to apply more pressure - meaning dont put your phone in your pocket while youre sitting and because your leg is bent and in your pocket the phone might get hot so with bending pressure as the phone is made of metal (and glass), heat will cause the bending to be easier while in your pocket and that will cause screen touch problems and volume buttons , I had my phone sent to fix once cuz of that and they said its because of too much pressure applied on the phone with time caused such problems (especially times when its in your pocket while youre sitting.
and my phone pressure is lower than yours but its tested water proof after they fixed it in the lab so no worries
hope i cleared things up

Oh, thats what you mean. Apologies.
I can't take a video now, since I'm at work, but when I apply pressure to the screen, the pressure rises. The pressure should rise if the flap is closed. If the flap is open, the pressure won't rise. Since yours does not change, it might mean that there's leakage somewhere in the device. Since you had your phone serviced at a mobile center, have them double check if it is water resistant. If you had yours done at a Sony mobile center, they should be able to perform a water resistance test for you (request that they do it in front of you so you can be sure.)

Bro mine doesnt add any thing when i apply pressure it stays 993 even if i push hard so im not really sure how that works or where to push but its not a problem as after i once sent my phone to fix they performed a waterproof test and stated in their summary paper that its all good so take it easy its all good haha chill, if you gonna keep digging stuff like this looking for a problem you will never be happy with what you have
